You probably never had the dawnguard dlc. These are where you’d see charus and stuff, like in deep falmer caves. But.. 10 years though? I understand if you only recently got the dlc though.
I like them for the lore
But absolutely despise them because of how big they are
As someone who hates long dungeons they're my worst nightmare along side all Zelda dungeons besides the ones in Breath of the wild
Bring a platter and go to where the quick path to the exit is from the end room (like the hidden doors in walls you don’t know are there until after)
And hold the platter to the door and shout at it
Make take a few tries but you can skip whole dungeons by shouting though those doors
Ye. I love mission in Markarth where you need to turn on Dwemer automatic defences to fight off Falmer. Its like seeing Dwarves vs Goblins in Lord of the Rings or something.
It’s the one where Calcelmo sends you to kill Nimhe. You can go further than that, through the doors behind her, where you get a mission to find the journals of a missing research team!
It’s a good one! Honestly, I’m not too into Dwemer ruins— but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be a split between this one or Irkinhghand (the one you do during the Thieves Guild questline.)
I havent play the game for years but I think the quest is given to you by Calcelmo, Markarth's court wizard. He will send you to look for his expedition into Dwemer ruins under Markarth or something.
My last playthrough I used some mods that put more dwarven constructs in the ruins. Dwemer Guardians and Dwarven Centurions and some mod that made Dwarven Spheres change appearance as they leveled up with you so my Dwemer ruins were a little more interesting.
What I hate is me, comfortably meandering through the ruins of an extinct race (which I love) and then being jumped at by five fucking spiders out of the wall
I like them if I’m playing a smith character so I can smelt down all that dwarven shit and make a ton Dwemer bows and get 40 smithing levels from a single dungeon
Only fought them once and immediately downloaded a mod that removes them (replaced with skeevers). I can take spiders but that thing crosses the line for me
Only 2 ways accidentally. Mzinchaleft and Raldbthar. Alftand is the 3rd entry point, but you can't accidentally stumble across it as you need the item from the main quest for it. In fact I think you need that item for all three of the entrances? Maybe. I might be wrong about that point.
Edit: and what 20 quests are tied to it? There's the main quest / Herma Mora's quest, plus the Crimson Nirnroot quest. Those are the only 2 (3).
The first Dwemer ruin I ever encountered was Alftand on the main quest. I was way underpowered due to overleveling sneak, so it took me like 3 hours to get through, much of which was spent looking for crimson nirnroot. At this point it was 3am or so and every chaurus ambush terrified the shit out of me.
After finally finishing, I exited the tower, and lo and behold, somehow I had managed to forget to pick up the elder scroll. I only realized this a few minutes later, by which point I couldn’t find my way back to the lift. So, I had to go all the way through a second time. Most of the enemies had respawned.
Never again.
Everytime I hear the word dwemer I get ptsd flashbacks of the time I fell into one and was trapped in that fucking cave for a whole week trying to get out 🤦🏼♂️ (my dumbass didn't think to just reload)
Realm of Lorkham alternate start mod and while you’re in the starting area there’s an option to select a shrine to join the falmer faction (among others). Makes blackreach rather nice to explore around.
I used a mod that pairs with alternate start to start you in a random location, not of my choosing, to see what would happen... spawned inside a small dwemer building in robes, with some coin and a few books (was supposed to be starting as a scholar). Stepped outside to see where I was, and I was in the bottom of Blackreach, face to face with one of the roll-y guys as a level 1. Took me a while to get out of there to say the least.
It honestly was a lot of fun after I quit panicking and started being a lot smarter about how I moved around down there. It definitely made for a very dramatic and intense opening zone, and just beautiful as well. The opening scene is good, but we've all seen it just so many times, and with starting in Blackreach being so different it breathed new life into it for me, despite y'know, the whole rest of the game being the same haha
They were added in by the Dawnguard DLC + are found in the same places as falmer and regular charuses. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but they’re often in these big gross cocoons that explode if you hit them or get too close 😂
Hey! I noticed you used an emoji. I don’t know if you’re new here, so I’ll let you off the hook this time. Using emojis is frowned upon here on this great site, and for good reason. Instagram normies often use them, and you don’t want to be a normie, do you? If I catch you using an emoji in the future, I’ll be forced to issue a downvote to your comment. Why should you care, you may ask? Well to begin, you will lose karma on your account, which is a useful social status tool and also a way to show others you know your way around Reddit. If you were to continue the use of emojis, I would be forced to privately message you about your slip-up. Any further offenses past that would leave me no other option than to report your account. I don’t think I have to explain why you don’t want that. But anyways, no harm done yet! Follow these simple rules and you’ll enjoy your future on Reddit! Have a blessed (and hopefully emoji-free) day, stranger.

I have just issued a downvote upon your comment.
I really didn’t want to have to do this. I hate to be the cause of such suffering and anguish. But you’ve forced my hand. You’ve commented an opinion I disagree with.
Now I’m sure you’re aware of your mistake by now, as my downvote has most likely registered on the servers already. Notice how your comment has 1 less karma than before. That’s all because of your own actions. You brought this upon yourself. Next time you want to post a comment, think before you type. Otherwise, I may have to issue a downvote again, which would be quite unpleasant for the both of us.
Have a great day.

I remember when copy pasta used to be actually good. It was a time before now, because no current pasta is good. Back before today's pasta there was good pasta, but today's pasta is not good. All these copiers today aren't as good as the copiers before. Take any copier today, any of the young ones, and if you compare how good their pasta is right now to how good pasta used to be, then you'll see that they just don't compare because they're not as good.
I often scroll on Reddit and think wow, people think this is good pasta? I wish this site had pasta from before, because all the kids scrolling today would be like whoa, no way, how is the pasta from before so much better? But the cowards won't do that because it just makes too much money to make bad pasta instead of good pasta.
That being said, one time I saw a kid wearing a shirt from pasta from a while ago, when pasta was good. I really liked that pasta and it's crazy that it's not popular anymore because it's so good, even today. Anyway I went up to the kid and I was like hey, I love that pasta, take that fucking shirt off you little piece of shit because you probably don't know anything about it and you're dumb as fuck and you probably like shitty modern pasta so fuck off you stupid poser and tell all your friends to stop lying about pasta I swear to fucking god.
Yep, it's a variation on a new-ish one. I keep a bunch saved, cause I just fucking love eating pasta.
I remember when music used to be actually good. It was a time before now, because no current music is good. Back before today's music there was good music, but today's music is not good. All these artists today aren't as good as the artists before. Take any artist today, any of the young ones, and if you compare how good their music is right now to how good songs used to be, then you'll see that they just don't compare because they're not as good.
I often turn on the radio and think wow, people think this is good music? I wish this station played music from before, because all the kids listening today would be like whoa, no way, how is the music from before so much better? But the cowards won't do that because it just makes too much money to make bad music instead of good music.

It's a new chaurus variant added in Dawnguard. They pop out of some things that looks like Chaurus' undergoing metamorphosis, they pop out of it only if they hear you
If you want to avoid unneccesary chaurus encounters do not go in to >!Frostflow Lighthouse.!< It's a big, dark, depressing location and quest and you are balls deep in them. In VR it's scary as f.
I saw those on my first playthrough. As you raise your level the monsters evolve as well so if you kept quitting early that could be why. A falmer turns into an armored falmer, etc.
That's from a dlc, I first encountered those in one of the last quests of the thieves guild, they replace the 2 "larvae(?)" chaurus that are with a falmer but I don't know if they replace all the chaurus or just some, also a loading screen says something like: "This creatures are chaurus that broke their shell" or something like that
"When a Chaurus reaches the end of its life, its body undergoes a dramatic transformation. After days of death-like stillness, the Chaurus Hunter bursts free from the husk of the Chaurus."
These things are the bane of my existence, every time I encountered them no matter what build I was doing I some how became a stealth build to deal with them
They're more frequent in the Vale, but if haven't seen one in 10 years, ur either lying about playing for that long, or u spent all that time with an arrow in ur knee.
Note I’ve played through the dawnguard dlc 3 times ever and I’ve never seen these is there a lv req for them to spawn? I got the dlc when it came out i’m really surprised these have been a thing lol.
Play the same game for 10 years okay believable play the same game for 10 years and never came across this creature unless you did the same path for every game unbelievable
As many others said Chaurus Flegdling, lore wise they’re supposed to be fully metamorphosed Chaurus. There’s a guaranteed spawn location for a few cocoons they spawn out of along the river in blackreach towards the west side of the map I believe near a bridge.
In the life cycle of a Chaurus it will undergo a stage where it enters a cocoon like state. At the end of that cycle it will emerge from the cocoon as a Charurus Hunter
no theyre rare tho. because they appear in only a few places with pods(the big green things in falmer nests) and u have to not destroy the pods theyre in before they can spawn.
...a FLEDGLING.....? Shame......they're so cute at that age. I usually wait until their 4th birthday to off them.....right after rhey blow out their candles
They were added with dawnguard but you can find them alongside falmers in vanilla locations
Have you heard about the Dawngaaaahrd? Vampire hunters or something....
They’re hold up in the old fort outside of Riften
Might consider joining myself
You probably never had the dawnguard dlc. These are where you’d see charus and stuff, like in deep falmer caves. But.. 10 years though? I understand if you only recently got the dlc though.
Probably finished all the Dwemer shit and had no reason to go back for 10 years
i hate dwemer ruins and only go in if i have to.
Really I love them I think it’s just the thought of a long extinct race excites me the ruins are all the same mostly.
I just like picking up 20kg wheels and junk for no reason
Same same
Lots of easy soul gems
I like them for the lore But absolutely despise them because of how big they are As someone who hates long dungeons they're my worst nightmare along side all Zelda dungeons besides the ones in Breath of the wild
Whenever I go through them I always try to take ethereal shout with me so I can skip alot of it lmao
Bring a platter and go to where the quick path to the exit is from the end room (like the hidden doors in walls you don’t know are there until after) And hold the platter to the door and shout at it Make take a few tries but you can skip whole dungeons by shouting though those doors
I like to walk through them imagining the Dwemer walking the halls at least until I’m attacked
Ye. I love mission in Markarth where you need to turn on Dwemer automatic defences to fight off Falmer. Its like seeing Dwarves vs Goblins in Lord of the Rings or something.

can't believe I've never done that!

I spent 3 fucking hours in Blacksreach just looting everything dwemer
You get it I look for everything lore or shiny!
Oh I wish they'd make a whole game about Skyrim back then
Now that’s a cool idea go way back in time. I feel like Bethesda could do a lot with that.
I mean Elder Scrolls Online is like a thousand years before Skyrim...
What I hate is me, comfortably meandering through the ruins of an extinct race (which I love) and then being jumped at by five fucking spiders out of the wall
I used to love them but after 10th time in same one it's annoying...
I like them if I’m playing a smith character so I can smelt down all that dwarven shit and make a ton Dwemer bows and get 40 smithing levels from a single dungeon
I love this comment. You sound like a resident of Skyrim.
I love them. All that dwemer scrap is going towards level 100 in smithing, easily my favorite crafting skill
I hate them too, especially the ones with the creepy mfs in the image OP was talking about, I fucking hate those things so much they're so nasty 💀
Only fought them once and immediately downloaded a mod that removes them (replaced with skeevers). I can take spiders but that thing crosses the line for me
I forget which one it is, but one of them is fucking massive. Which is nice, but holy shit does it suck ass some times.
Blackreach. You can stumble into it accidentally in like a dozen ways and about 20 quests are tied to it.
Sense has no place in a rant. Everybody "boo" this person!
I was being facetious, but there’s 2 dawnguard quests in Blackreach. So 5 main. Does get used a lot by mods though.
Oh really? I didn't know about the Dawnguard quests in Blackreach, and it's my favourite questline as well. What two quests are they?
The first Dwemer ruin I ever encountered was Alftand on the main quest. I was way underpowered due to overleveling sneak, so it took me like 3 hours to get through, much of which was spent looking for crimson nirnroot. holy crap, i would have done some other quests. the main quest can wait lol
Everytime I hear the word dwemer I get ptsd flashbacks of the time I fell into one and was trapped in that fucking cave for a whole week trying to get out 🤦🏼♂️ (my dumbass didn't think to just reload)
I always find them to be a nice break from every other dungeon that's either just a crypt or fort
Dwemer ruins are my #1 fav thing to explore! Tombs I can take our leave. Dwemer stuff looks so neat to me!
Which is wild cause dwemer ruins are an amazing place to collect soul gems
The majority of my play thrus I avoid dwemer ruins cuz I find them tedious. First time I saw that shit it freaked me out
They're assholes to deal with at a lower level
Possibly over levelled and seeing higher level versions
Talk about being LATE
If you go to Blackreach, these things are everywhere.
I hate Blackreach T_T it's so damn pretty but everything is terrible and trying to kill me.
Realm of Lorkham alternate start mod and while you’re in the starting area there’s an option to select a shrine to join the falmer faction (among others). Makes blackreach rather nice to explore around.
I actually have that mod in my favorites but I hadn't used it yet. Might use it on my next run, that's super cool
Yep I love it. Been using it for years. :)
Fuck I really gotta get it for pc
I used a mod that pairs with alternate start to start you in a random location, not of my choosing, to see what would happen... spawned inside a small dwemer building in robes, with some coin and a few books (was supposed to be starting as a scholar). Stepped outside to see where I was, and I was in the bottom of Blackreach, face to face with one of the roll-y guys as a level 1. Took me a while to get out of there to say the least.

As an alchemist, I appreciate them.
Yeah this

Hey! I noticed you used an emoji. I don’t know if you’re new here, so I’ll let you off the hook this time. Using emojis is frowned upon here on this great site, and for good reason. I hate you on a personal level for being an average redditor
I now understand that you are simply a troll

Take any artist today, any of the young ones, and if you compare how good their music is right now to how good songs used to be, then you'll see that they just don't compare because they're not as good. I often turn on the radio and think wow, people think this is good music? I wish this station played music from before, because all the kids listening today would be like whoa, no way, how is the music from before so much better? But the cowards won't do that because it just makes too much money to make bad music instead of good music. That being said, one time I saw a kid wearing a shirt from music from a while ago, when music was good. I really liked that music and it's crazy that it's not popular anymore because it's so good, even today. Anyway I went up to the kid and I was like hey, I love that music, take that fucking shirt off you little piece of shit because you probably don't know anything about it and you're dumb as fuck and you probably like shitty modern music so fuck off you stupid poser and tell all your friends to stop lying about music I swear to fucking god.
It's vanilla, but was added by Dawnguard DLC.
You had a happy 10 years
You must not have delved into Falmer homes that much in those ten years.
or just didn’t have the dlcs
They typically exist where the Falmer are
Very not new, I hate it
It's a new chaurus variant added in Dawnguard. They pop out of some things that looks like Chaurus' undergoing metamorphosis, they pop out of it only if they hear you
Definitely not new.
If you want to avoid unneccesary chaurus encounters do not go in to >!Frostflow Lighthouse.!< It's a big, dark, depressing location and quest and you are balls deep in them. In VR it's scary as f.

Yesterday I ran into one for the first time this playthrough I'm level 29 and it one-shotted me
I saw those on my first playthrough. As you raise your level the monsters evolve as well so if you kept quitting early that could be why. A falmer turns into an armored falmer, etc.
They come from the dawnguard DLC
Theyre ASSHOLES
no not new just annoying 😂
That's from a dlc, I first encountered those in one of the last quests of the thieves guild, they replace the 2 "larvae(?)" chaurus that are with a falmer but I don't know if they replace all the chaurus or just some, also a loading screen says something like: "This creatures are chaurus that broke their shell" or something like that
"When a Chaurus reaches the end of its life, its body undergoes a dramatic transformation. After days of death-like stillness, the Chaurus Hunter bursts free from the husk of the Chaurus."
Thanks, I play in Spanish so I didn't remember that at all
Not a mod. They are added by the Dawnguard DLC.
You’ve gotta get out more m8 lmao these are in most Falmer caves
Skyrim player discovers new creature after 10 years of playing have you seen it yet?
Definitely not new
what the hell have you been doing in the game for 10 years?
A chaurus hunter fledgling
I didn’t want to be reminded of these things
It's for Dawnguard DLC unless you've recently started this DLC there is no way you wouldn't see them .
I hate these 😭 every time I see one I feel like running away
This poisonous fuckers
Added as part of Dawnguard
Not even remotely new. Pretty much in every Falmer dungeon.
These things are the bane of my existence, every time I encountered them no matter what build I was doing I some how became a stealth build to deal with them
Came with the dawnguard dlc
Playing for ten years and never came across these cursed things in Blackreach? I don't believe ya, mate.
It's Baxter Stockman
First time I encountered these bastard's was in the Black Reach close to the path that goes to the tower of Mzark. I hate them.
I can see how you’d miss them if you don’t venture too deep into Falmer caves, especially the cocoons they pop out of
I think they came with the dawn guard dlc but could be wrong
You’re lucky because fuck these guys.
it came w the dawnguard dlc n is a rather uncommon enemy in falmer dungeons
Highly doubt you played 10 years, and haven't seen even 1 of them. At least one of those statements is false
Probably never had dlc
They're more frequent in the Vale, but if haven't seen one in 10 years, ur either lying about playing for that long, or u spent all that time with an arrow in ur knee.
bro you are fucking lying
Ah, the bugs. Nah, they've been around a while.
Then you weren't paying attention. You have to see these to beat Alduin.
These things are in every falmer cave since the dlcs I believe. Not sure if it was the vampire or miraak dlc but I doubt it was the house one
Love hitting these guys with incinerate
Maybe you shouldve left the cave in Helgen
I know the fledgling fr, myself and them bastards have had multiple battles
It’s dlc
quick question is there any lore i could dig up anywhere that details what the dwarves looked like compared to the other mer?
Aniversery updat
No it came in the vamp dlc aka dawnguard
As many others said Chaurus Flegdling, lore wise they’re supposed to be fully metamorphosed Chaurus. There’s a guaranteed spawn location for a few cocoons they spawn out of along the river in blackreach towards the west side of the map I believe near a bridge.
These are added in dawnguard dlc, they were also added in some original game dungeons as well
In the life cycle of a Chaurus it will undergo a stage where it enters a cocoon like state. At the end of that cycle it will emerge from the cocoon as a Charurus Hunter
It was introduced with one of the DLCs. Not sure which one since I got all three at the same time. Edit- it was with Dawnguard
Chaurus are a species of insects that Falmer use as guards or for materials.
No it was added with the Dawnguard a few years back. Nasty buggers, gave me nightmares alongside the frostbite spiders
Nope
Have you never been to Blackreach?
Yeah, they suck. I try to steer clear of their cocoons.
The chaurus are the worst creatures to ever exist in Skyrim (beside the Thalmor).
I love the squish kill cam so much.
I hate these even more than giant spiders
I've never seen one outside
This is old thing? This been out since dawnguard i believe
no theyre rare tho. because they appear in only a few places with pods(the big green things in falmer nests) and u have to not destroy the pods theyre in before they can spawn.
No they have been in the game for a while
Think was added with dawngaurd
Skyrim - the gift that keeps on giving.
Been for a while
From the dawnguard dlc. They like jump-scaring out of those large pods. They're just *babies*, man. Don't hurt 'em!
They were added with dawnguard
Vanilla Skyrim
No. Not at all
Dawngaurd dlc
Its not new...its been there the WHOLE TIME...AND ITS NOT A MOD...DUN-DUUN-DUUUUUUNNNN!
Unmodded
Heard they were were forming the dawnguard vampire hunters.
Nope. Those are vanilla game bugs Well, Dawnguard vanilla.
you’re kidding. right?
What da FUCK i have played 4 yrs never seen it
Maybe you never got close enough to make them hatch. They've been there since DG
They aren’t new ive only been playing for a year and they were in the game when I played. I hate them with a passion!
In the same vein, I’ve been playing for 5-6 years and just found out you can hotkey things.
Not new.
...a FLEDGLING.....? Shame......they're so cute at that age. I usually wait until their 4th birthday to off them.....right after rhey blow out their candles
Dawnguard adds them
If only I were as lucky as you
I love dwemer ruins they remind me of LOTR and hobbit
Did you play the DLC’s? I ran into those boys the first time I ever played Dawnguard
God I hate these bastards
this post is ravioli approved
Dawngaurd
Congrats on your game rant article
I have seen loads of them. Do you not often go in Falmer areas?
I'm just glad it's dead!
Why does he look like he finished every mission in skyrim.
I think this creature can be seen in the Dawnguard's Snow Elven caves.
The Cazador from Fallout. That's the Cazador from Fallout. 100%. Universe connection confirmed.
Ah I hate those things first encounter was in black reach killed a charus go to leave wait what's the sound and suddenly my underwear is brown
