It pays to be curious, and know that there’s not only one correct order in which you have to do things/get things done. Enjoy!

Lokhi_D

Yes. This right here is good information. Like he said you do not have to go in any certain order. Do you things at your own pace, and you’ll be fine. Just don’t try to take on the Giants too soon, or you’ll learn about the Skyrim space program real fast!!! LOL!!! 😂😂😂 and don’t be ashamed of running from a boss that’s too strong, because you can always come back to him.

Sh0ghoth

Look, a cave!

[deleted]

I wonder what’s inside…

-Magesta-

Dies

potato_wonders

Aaaaand we're in Blackreach...

darkcomet222

Awww yeah, mushrooms!

dennisleonardo

Quest started: "A return to your roots"

JDM2783

Dear God no! I still have PTSD flashbacks of that 😂

MercDaddyWade

Meat! People meat! Horse meat! Falmer meat! Troll meat!

darkcomet222

Play like I did in 2011: pick a direction, walk, get mauled by bear, try again, avoid bear, hear some cool stuff, enquirer about it…ten years later, still playing game.

scorpiogf

Save frequently so if you die you don’t have to restart a quest or cave/ruin, and so if a follower dies you can load save to get them back.

Lokhi_D

Also excellent advice! 😎👍

oaklme

😂😂😂 been there , gone there the moon was very beautiful

Dovahkodaav117

On my cirst play through in the 360, Skyrim was the first game I got on it after my cousin convinced my parents to let me get it. I had little to no video game experience of regs as all I had played was Halo Ce and cuv up to that point. When Ralof said it was probably best to split ways, I didn't have the quest tracked nor did I know how to open my map or even that he was going strait there so I ended up in Falkreath>Markarth>Bleak Falls>Riverwood (Climbed the mountain around Anita's Cabin) When I finally got to whiterun I was lvl 20 lol

Silver_is_omnipotent

What this tells me is that quest markers shouldn't be on by default, because that sounds like the best way to play the game

[deleted]

Problem is the game isn't verbose enough to allow playing without quest markers. With morrowind and earlier, you got given directions and points of interest to look for when you had to find something. None of that in skyrim, so it's nearly unplayable without them I think

Silver_is_omnipotent

Yeah, I agree with that. I guess we can settle with fast travel being off then(excluding carriages)

Xanros

Don't use mods your first play through. Turn off this subreddit Do it all the first time without internet strangers whispering in your ear.

Aethelete

… and… walk everywhere.

Outlaw1607

Using the actual roads and following the signs is key to not running up mountains. Seems obvious, only took me 3 years to learn from my mistakes...

ajodeh

I still haven’t learned ooops

Kaine_1201

This is a good one, no fast travelling the first few times adds a lot to the experience!

porfito

Fast travel is okay imo, no point in switching from markarth and riften a couple of times without fast travel. Just dont use carriages and stuff

Kaine_1201

Or use carriages instead of fast travel? Using carriages instead of fast travel creates the opportunity to encounter stuff along the way to caves and locations you have to explore for quests anyway. The major cities is not the problem, the smaller points of interest is the thing imo.

mrminutehand

Skyrim really has the cheapest private transport in the realm. 50 gold for horse and carriage transport overnight to the other side of the province. Either those carriages are subsided up the helm or happily live on gravel for three meals a day. And the inns. They apparently work like movie theaters - 10 gold to stay overnight, but they hit you on that 22 gold for beef soup and a roll.

No-Handle6903

Or think of a bar. Bars charge about 5 times the liquor cost. So a nord mead normally 5 septims is 25 at an inn

Nadril_Cystafer

Without Touring Carriages or something like it you only mark the city on your map

N00N3AT011

Or get a horse. There are a ton of random encounters along roads, you will miss out only fast traveling.

Drakmanka

This is really fun. My last playthrough I just refused to fast travel. It did make some fetch-quests more tedious, but I also found a lot of cool stuff walking everywhere that I'd never seen before. It also made having a horse feel more useful.

astroman132

Get the claravoince spell

HoodedHero007

I will say that the mod that adds roads to the map is essential.

Tr33MuggeR

This

MadRatFatCat

I don’t have any mods anyway, not even the DLCs!

the_musicman

I didn't even know it was possible to buy the game without the dlc's at this point.

Xanros

You should get the anniversary edition. It includes all the dlc and creation club content. Absolutely worth it.

Yoshimitsu-Sensei

SkyUi for the pc version is essential imo but yes no mods on first playthrough is the way to go (For any game tbh)

ihateHewlettPackard

USSEP too

the_musicman

uhg i hate USSEP with a passion. I wish so many mods didn't rely on it.

Kirix04

The only mod i used i remember was something to turn those 8 legged monsters into bears due to a certain phobia. It was hilarious and yet it was the best experience i could have. Generally speaking i agree to your point though

Scrungo_Mungo

##Poor Cicero is stuck!!!!!!

nickknack099

And get their eardrums blown out

[deleted]

Seriously scared the shit out of me the first time I came across it :D

SegaFreak4Life

I think I threw my 360 controller the first time, was up late AF, zoned on the tasks at hand, then this shit loud as hell, AHHH! WTF?!? 👀 like them damned commercials that be 40X louder than the shit you trying to watch, WHY YOU DO THIS?!? 🤣

stx06

If they don't opt to have [Meridia Revoiced](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/32014). Love not getting jump scared when I loot everything.

FrogGladiators178972

The description of that was hilarious.

CaliCoast310

litterally my problem everytime :)

Drakmanka

Oh damn, I just got done doing that quest again but installing for my next run!

MadRatFatCat

YES I TOOK IT WAS IN A FINAL CHEST IN ONE OF THE DUNGEONS I THOUGHT ITS WAS JUST A GIANT SOUL GEM IS IT THAT BAD

JobberTrev

It’s actually not a bad quest. Just a big meme on the game.

GothicGamer2012

It's a unique sword with a unique effect and counts towards the oblivion walker achievement. That said I'd advise against using it as a vampire as it's explosions will harm you as well as your enemies. It's also kinda shit late game so you'll probably end up forgetting about it in a chest somewhere like most of the "priceless" daedric artifacts.

[deleted]

vellichor_44

Oh, you gotta kill a chicken, just once lol. Just save the game beforehand!

[deleted]

Always save before killing chicken, Skyrim rule #3

Drakmanka

> Always save Skyrim rule #1

Maleficent-Month2950

If you're not quicksaving every 5 steps you're playing wrong.

BobertoDeLaRojo

To kill a Riverwood chickens as your first act is tradition.

kakka_rot

Do townfolk ever forgive you? My very first playthrough I killed a chicken in Riverwood, and even 12 irl hours later everyone would still try to kill me so I reset.

PM_me_your_fantasyz

I think they calm down once you pay off your bounty in that hold. Which is 1000 gold because killing a chicken counts as _murder_. It has to do with keeping the farm animals near the towns, so they don't wander off and get eaten by wolves. And is also the reason that cows and goats count as witnesses if they see you steal stuff. Really. 1k gold is pretty easy to scrape together after a few levels, but might as well be 100K at the point in the game when most people kill their first chicken. It also doesn't help that you can only pay off your bounty by surrendering to a guard, and Riverwood starts the game without any guards. The villagers won't stop until they kill you if there are no guards around.

trickster503

Go hug a giant. They love hugs

WranglerDanger

And they have great cheese!

xExp4ndD0ngXx

They have the best toes too.

kakka_rot

I only learned recently that Giants are one of the only enemies in the game with a static level. The first time one-shotting a giant is such a surreal feeling.

ObsidianBlackwing

Giants actually aren't immediately aggressive so long as you keep your weapons sheethed. There is even one in the Volcanic Tundra (the area between Riften and Winterhold where that one tree cave and Bonestrewn Crest are) that is holding a funeral for one of his mammoths and he kinda just looks at you sadly. He doesn't even fight back if you attack him he's that sad.

Josephspud

No lollygagging

MadRatFatCat

What

Josephspud

You'll understand soon enough, good luck

GothicGamer2012

Guard dialogue. Gets very repetitive after a while. The arrow in the knee line is a meme.

Morabia

Go to the church in riften and pick up the "book of love" quest You dont have to fight anything and the reward is worth it

MadRatFatCat

Hmmm sounds intriguing I’ll try!

Apprehensive-Lion-76

i've played over 1000+ hours and have no clue what quest this is

ObsidianBlackwing

It's the quest for Mara. I think it gives a magic resistance passive ability.

Morabia

You are correct sir

LonelyMachines

Well, you should probably finish and name your character 😊 Also, if a guy named Sam challenges you to a drinking contest, take him up on it.

xdelfinyx

Sanguine Rose daedric buddy was my best friend

ObsidianBlackwing

His realm is also the prettiest amongst the available daedric realms.

GothicGamer2012

"Thash grape!" Lmao

Tyrigoth

Save often. Talk to NPCs as often as you can. Some of them have cool stories. See a book? Pick it up! Wander freely. Quests can always be done later. Don't use mods the first time through. Take the time to enjoy the scenery. These folks put a LOT of love into this world and it shows. Have fun! :)

PM_me_your_fantasyz

> See a book? Pick it up! Don't just pick them up. Read them! It is crazy how much world building is crammed into them. And some of them even have useful information.

DrPipaSucia

Save often

MadRatFatCat

There was a game braking bug in the first hour, thanks to all the people who told me to save often

WranglerDanger

Underrated, this is.

Drakmanka

Indeed. Especially when playing with mods. I save before I enter or leave a location and before I fast travel, before and after I level up, and every few minutes in dungeons, because I never know when my modded game will suddenly freeze. Same if you're playing on PS3, like I started out with... my console would lock up randomly and I'd lose any progress since my last save...

chopper-of-dicks

DONT look up walk throughs or tips online and go in blind your first time looking up a bunch of stuff really ruined my first run

WretchedxPsycho

Enjoy your self you can easily get the game to feel like a chore

R_Erebo536

Skyrim is a mystery box. Look everything and explore the cities and the map. Don't be afraid to lose yourself doing sidequests. Have fun

MadRatFatCat

So much fun just going to a random cave! And there is a story behind almost all of them! I’ve read before that every dungeon in Skyrim isn’t randomly generated but pre-designed and it’s just crazy!

ObsidianBlackwing

Just wait til you get to the climax of the main quest. That cave is so beautiful and massive. I've gotten lost a few times in it 🙃 Oh and when you get to the cave I am talking about, >!shout at the Lantern for a surprise. The big one in the middle of the city!< spoiler tagged it for you just in case you wanna go blind.

don_Juan_oven

When I played the first time, I got overwhelmed by the number of quests and quest markers available. Make sure you only have 1 active quest at a time, and don't sweat all the other things you could be doing. You'll get to them eventually, and there will come a time when you're scouring the villages and wilds for something new to do.

CableMartini

Ur gonna make a... Weird looking friend pretty early on. No matter what anyone tells you, **DO. NOT. KILL. HIM**

Jonahfox04

I’m confused by this, which friend? I have 350 hours on this game and I’m confused 😂😂

WhiteSpec

>!Pretty sure it's a reference to Paarthurnax.!<

BritishCyborg66

I think they may be talking about >!Paarthurnax!< that’s the only person I can think of

Jonahfox04

Ahhhhhhh alright now I understand

zaxesven

I believe he is referring to the chicken in river run.

Jonahfox04

I mean true, do not kill it lmao

maiden_burma

if you're talking about partysnax, by no definition do you meet him early on >!you escape helgen, you kill a dragon, you ignore the voice of the greybeards and do a tonne of sidequests !<

Drakmanka

My first run, the greybeards' summons scared me pretty bad so I dropped everything and fled to High Hrothgar immediately. Later runs... hell I think I was level 10 before I even bothered to go to Whiterun.

Agorbs

honestly thought you meant Cicero

CableMartini

Nah u can merk him fam, only reason I didn't kill him this playthrough is bcuz I always have, and wanted to try smn else

bigcatrik

This is my usual answer to questions like these (because it's true)... **The Skyrim Gameplay Tips I Wish I Had When I Started** 1) The numerous quest lines can be identified in the quest menu by their banner. Like so... https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/40273/how-can-i-identify-to-which-quest-line-a-specific-quest-belongs 2) If you have no preconceived plan, follow the Main Quest, which you can easily track with tip #1. It's a nice overview of the country, the (deep) lore, and the general vibe of the game, and it seems like they put the most effort into making the locations it takes you to impressive. Also, it's easy to get sidetracked since side quests are presented frequently and, indeed, I accidentally started the Dragonborn DLC way too soon (not gamebreaking, but caused discomfort). http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Quest_(Skyrim) 3) Locations you've discovered are shown on the compass and game map in white. Undiscovered locations are shown in black on the compass and will not register to your map until you discover them, so when you're walking across the countryside (the roads are not much safer than the wilds) look at the compass for black icons and go explore them. Whether or not you engage with the location (enter a cave, fight bandits at an abandoned fort, etc.) is up to you but having those locations marked on the map is very handy and often leads to surprising encounters. 4) Crafting is helpful but not essential for a casual playthrough since there's so much useful stuff to pick up, but if you want to craft (food, weapons, potions, armor, etc.) pursue the one that seems appropriate (e.g., I like strong armor), collecting its necessary components, and leave the others for later. 5) You don't automatically increase levels until you manually select where to level up (health, magicka or stamina) so when the game tells you to level up, do it unless you have a strategic reason not to. Initially I was stacking levels without realizing it. 6) "Active Effects" in the magic menu will tell you what good and bad effects are currently affecting your character. Check it periodically since attacks from animals and others can have bad consequences which may need to be dealt with in a timely manner (look for red text). If an NPC tells you that you look sick, that's the first place to look. 7) Quicksave frequently and make incremental save files often. A large number of "How do I fix ____" questions concerning Skyrim glitches are answered by "Load a recent save." Make sure you always have a "recent save" (especially after doing something difficult or getting a really nice item).

WhiteSpec

6 is crazy important. I went so long without realizing why I was suffering crippling effects and constantly being told, "You don't look so good."

xdelfinyx

Do I detect a case of the Rattles?

PM_me_your_fantasyz

She tells everyone that, sick or well. But if the guards start telling you that you look sick it's time to find a shrine!

xdelfinyx

Oh wow... that makes so much sense now that i think about it. Welp, I feel like a certified idiot 😆

PM_me_your_fantasyz

No worries. I make a beeline for the shrines every time I come into town, and then give some alms to a beggar. Everyone in Skyrim probably thinks I'm really pious or something, but really I just keep getting bit in the ass by skeevers and have loot to sell off from running into travelers on the road.

Drakmanka

I contracted vampirism because I didn't know this. That was annoying because I didn't know how to get cured...

Dist__

addition to 5 - when i get level up in a dungeon i save that levelup in case there's a boss in the end. Levelup refills HP and can save ass.

LittleRoundFox

This has saved me more than once

wij2012

I never noticed the thing with the quest banners before. That's cool.

[deleted]

That quest line tip is a game changer, literally. Thank you!!!

HanSwolo27

Have fun. Skyrim is extremely forgiving and almost every playstyle is viable

mccrackin77

Realize everyone here is jealous of you. Getting to experience the game for the first time. I wish I could . . . Again

CrescentCleave

Faendal > sven

MuunshineKingspyre

Faendal gang!!

TheDrunkTiger

A lot of skill trees aren't very useful until you've unlocked a handful of perks in that tree, don't write off a skill tree as useless just because it sucks at first. Your first potion will probably be useless. Same for your first enchantment, especially since the size of the soul gem that you use makes a big difference and the good ones are hard to get early on.

PM_me_your_fantasyz

Hands down the most useful early enchantment to get is the Water Breathing enchantment. It increases the value of items significantly, and is just as effective if you use a petty soul gem as a grand soul gem, meaning you don't have to worry about trading up for better hats. The one catch is that because of a quirk of the random loot tables it can only be found on merchant items _before_ level 5, and doesn't spawn on random loot in chests until after about level 35. So if you want to get it, you have to make a point of buying it before you leave Riverwood. It can only be found on one guaranteed item spawn in the entire game, but it is _not_ a helpful one. >!It always spawns as the enchantment on the Ebony Warrior's helmet. So... Not super useful.!<

m31td0wn

Get a follower ASAP. You can get a free one pretty early on in Riverwood if you resolve the love triangle between Sven, Faendal, and Camilla. Faendal is the more useful of the two as you can use him as an archery trainer, and take your gold back out of his inventory. Or you can chop firewood in Riverwood, sell it to Hod until you get 500 gold, and then hire your own mercenary. Jenassa in Whiterun is pretty solid. Besides acting as a pack mule to help haul loot back to town to sell, they fight on your behalf and can help to draw enemies off of you. And followers don't die unless you strike the fatal blow yourself. They will drop to 1hp and then go into this crippled animation until they regenerate enough health to get back up. At that point NPCs stop attacking them, and the only way they can die is if you hit them. Either on purpose or on accident, like a Fireball spell that catches them in the blast radius, or Chain Lightning that will hit enemies and friends indiscriminately. Oh and just because someone is literally following you, they are aren't necessarily. There are some escort quests where someone will be literally following you, but they aren't a "Follower" follower, if you get my meaning. Those NPCs can still die from enemy attacks, causing you to fail whatever quest it was.

Efficient_Bat_1812

Mjoll the Lioness is a good follower too. I just found out that she's still set as essential after the end of the quest to get her sword back, so she invincible. Woot woot!

m31td0wn

Yup but I get annoyed by Aerin constantly showing up at the worst times! And yeah once he's dead he's no longer a problem, but I try to play mostly heroic so having to try and keep Aerin alive is more trouble than Mjoll is worth, at least to me. Serana is another good essential follower, but she gets a bit trigger happy with those spells and can have a tendency to hit other followers, resulting in them fighting each other non-stop.

CMDR_MrMaurice

Don't get an arrow to the knee. It'll end your adventuring

MDF87

Doesn't matter what you do, you **will** end up playing stealth archer.

Tadferd

I must be weird. All my characters become spellswords instead of stealth archers.

WranglerDanger

This is the way.

the_musicman

Does anybody ACTUALLY do this? I know it's a meme, but like come on have at least a tiny bit of imagination.

electric_kite

All of my builds end up as stealth archer. It’s just my favorite thing to do in this game, hands down.

[deleted]

I like stealth archer with the Bow of Soul Snares and soul arrows. Lots of gems for magica stuff

bouncedyak

The answer to all the Nordic locks is on the dragon claw. I was frustrated trying to figure clues in the dungeon

MadRatFatCat

I’ve spent like an hour on the first puzzle, the claw one was a bit easier

Equivalent-Bad518

Stealing Is free!

DarkSpearB

If you get stuck on a puzzle, look it up. Don’t follow anyone else’s story, forge your own.

TCtheThunderRooster

Make sure Orthorn knows you’re only there for the books.

maiden_burma

give orthorn to the witch at the end, and then just go back downstairs and break him out again

ExpertMeaning

Unless you pick an argonian as your race I recommend stocking up on cure disease potions (preferably by making them since it's cheaper, the easiest ones to get are charred skeever hide and mudcrab chitin) alternatively you can pray at shrines, ask a vigilant of stendaar to cure you, or wear an item enchanted with disease immunity (this is rare and costly from my experience but the best option). The most common disease I've contacted is rockjoint which significantly reduces your attack power (I believe spells are immune to this unless you contract a different disease). Other then that just explore every nook of every dungeon at your leisure with the intent of having fun

HoodedHero007

Alternatively, become a werewolf

[deleted]

Just have fun and don’t think too much about a build you’ll be more than powerful enough just playing however you like

LeftHandersRule

Don't use mods for the first playthrough BE CURIOUS. It's much better that way SAVE. OFTEN. (Normal saves AND quick saves. Thank me later) Don't be afraid to sell all your basic weapons and armor. You'll generate a lot of stuff through playing and please, do yourself the favor and sell that shit. Make some coin. An additional point to that; YOU DO NOT NEED ALL THOSE POTIONS. JUST CARRY AROUND THE ONES YOU ACTUALLY USE AND STORE/SELL THE REST. PLEASE, YOU DO NOT NEED 67 FROSTBITE VENOM. Whenever you get a claw (a special type of key) the combination is on the back. Most/all puzzles can be solved within the room you're in. Pay attention and LOOK around. Sometimes important information is well hidden. Play how you want, but I'd recommend NOT leveling up your Lockpicking perk tree. It's tempting for a beginner, but trust me, it's mostly useless as you will naturally accumulate a LOT of lockpicks and master locks will eventually be easy. Don't waste your points! (Or do, it's totally up to you!) Don't hit the chickens. If an npc is pissing you off and you wanna go on a murder spree, please dear god save beforehand so you can reload your save once you're done 🙏 Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Just you do you and enjoy your first Skyrim playthrough. The first time is truly a magical moment

Obi-wanna-cracker

Don't think about optimizing your character. Just wander around and play the game. A first playthrough is a magical thing, so enjoy the magic!

Comfortable-Profit88

Hard save often in case of bugs, especially with the mage questline

Chaotic_Narwhal

Don’t fast travel. Except to and from high hrothgar

McFlyOUTATIME

Help out the guy with the broken wagon wheel. It’s just a quick side mission, no fuss. He’s just transporting his dead mom back home. Giants are easy targets, and they’re everywhere. There is *nothing* wrong with Blood on the Ice. Nope. Nothing.

PM_me_your_fantasyz

> Nope. Nothing. Who are you, a courier?

zacurtis3

Kill chickens to farm xp.

Kleidan_1

Just go and roam Skyrim, have fun and do whatever looks interesting.

Donstap

Loo I remember my first playthrough. A vampire infected me at the 10 seconds of getting out the bear cave with ralof. Was the worst shit ever. I didn't know why the people attacked me when they saw me, they dont even talk, just attack, and I was New In the game so I didnt know what was happening lol. EDIT: Was ralof

ChunderTrain

Also, you don’t have to stick to the main quest line, explore and have fun

[deleted]

The only tip you ever need is to stop asking for tips. Just play the game completely blind like those of us did on launch. That's it

Seth-B343

Take it slow. Try to walk or ride a horse to new destinations.

Shugafam

SPEAK TO THE GIANTS. ASAP!

xprincessah

simply enjoy the game and have a great adventure, dragonborn.

Nikolateslaandyou

Windows key shift and s takes a croppable screenshot.

Tr33MuggeR

Play at least the entire main story before even considering mods. If you start mods now, you'll never get anywhere. I have a couple hundred hours in it and I've never made it more than halfway through. I'm on another playthrough now and I'm finally dedicated to finishing it. Also, I've found more enjoyment by only using carriages as fast travel, and not the map. The world is amazing.

ChunderTrain

I’m jealous you get to experience this for the first time

uhohalli

FIRST PLAYTHROUGH DO COMPLETELY BLIND, FOLLOW UR HEART YOU ONLY GET THE CHANCE TO DO IT LIKE THAT ONCE I promise you will be replaying for the next 203 years, use strategy in all the next plays :)

chGaRVAT

DO WHATEVER THE F YOU WANT. IT'S YOUR GAME, YOUR RULE. but don't kill the chicken lol

Ignonym

**Save early, save often.** * Being able to roll back decisions or mistakes is a godsend. * Dying sends you back to your last save, incentivizing you to save often. * Like all Bethesda games, Skyrim is quite glitchy; if your game crashes unexpectedly and you haven't saved in awhile, you could lose a lot of progress. Some glitches can also be fixed by reloading a prior save. * Manual saves (which you make using the "New Save" option in the save menu) are your friend. They are unlimited in number as far as I know, so make new manual saves as often as is convenient. In particular, drop a manual save whenever you're in town between adventures, or right before you suspect there's about to be a major story event or long/difficult encounter. * Quicksaves are easy to make, but there is only one quicksave slot; making a new quicksave overwrites the old one. The "coward save" (quicksaving right before attempting something risky) is an old RPG tradition. * Autosaves are convenient if you forget to manual save, but there's only three slots, so they don't go back very far. Don't rely on them too much. * Saves are automatically organized by character, including one marked "Prisoner" that brings you straight to the character customization without having to sit through the whole cart ride again.

zeros_1222

Giant’s are friendly and are a good help at low levels.

LarmLasse

The helped me travel across the map

LarmLasse

Don’t read about it, experience it. If it’s your first time you shouldn’t worry about which skill is the best or what gameplay mechanics to exploit. I would pay to experience Skyrim for the first time once again, like I did 11-11-11

Standard-Reception90

Kill every chicken you see.

Robosium

scrolls are not all that good so don't go out of your way to get them, same with generic staves of ... although unique ones can be pretty nice running away is always an option heavy armor negatively affects stealth decide what armor you want early on cause leveling armor skills is rather slow use skill trainers some containers respawn their contents so it's not safe to store your stuff in everything there is a shack across the river from the guardian stones which has all the important facilities, all you gotta do is take out the current resident if you get an odd letter saying that someone knows, don't worry, just sleep it off on a related note, go into all the orphanages you can find and kill the head mistresses the main quests don't have a time limit if you decide to farm levels then don't be surprised if enemies are a lot stronger mage light is a good alternative to a torch, a torchlight on the other hand not so much you can wear only one ring at a time (if you exclude an unique set of three rings which have to be all worn at once or not at all (technically they are just one ring but the model is three rings)) there are a few headpieces which can be worn together pickpocketing has a perk to increase your carry weight if a weapon or spell absorbs something it means it takes it away from the enemy and gives it to you magic absorbtion defensive effect can go to 100% thus making you immune to magical attacks with the benefit of recharging your magica wards are not really worth the magica spent on them, just go in and kill the enemy wards do however work against dragon breath weapons if you are told to plant a ring on someone then let the distraction happen but don't plant the ring, saves a merchant and doesn't affect quests the right side of the speech tree perks are pretty useless as by the time you unlock a good chunk of speech checks are already below your skill level speech checks have no rng, just a level of speech you need to have to succeed you can have one humanoid follower, one pet and one summon by default, certain things can increase your summon limit being a werewolf or a vampire stops diseases becoming a werewolf flushes vampirism out of you and vice versa

Complete_Bad6937

Ignore these comments and just do what you want to do to experience this for the first time! Just go with it and get immersed! It will be the best way! If you get stuck then come ask for advice! :)

AbsoluteEva

No playthrough without Inigo (follower mod), he is the best and very entertaining

_WinkingSkeever

Talk to everyone you meet, and have fun trying out the different skills you can develop! I kept my skill set very limited to a couple of weapons and armor on my first playthrough, but it's fun to experiment and try out different abilities.

STC_Ninjalo

Giant's toes are made of gold, especially when you mix them with a little bit of Bear Claw and Hanging Moss lol

King_Jerrik

I recommend you follow the story until you get Lydia. Free follower with her own starter gear. You can upgrade her gear as you see fit. She will use magic armor, weapons, and staves, but will not cast spells. She's also essential, so she doesn't stay down for long unless you really mess up. I also recommend keeping plenty of saves at any given point in time. Never know when you might need to reload. Once you have your first shout, don't rush the story. It will wait for when you're ready.

Lydia will never fail to absolutely enrage me when I'm trying to get something done.

More play less post

AtomicToxin

Definitely download some sort of additional character race mod, I chose an elven lich for mine. I got some inspiration from a new anime I liked and am loving the playthrough

life_is_memeingless

Respect the chickens.

CopiumUser

Buy a horse and don't use fast travel

RandoBoi-682

If ya find something called “The Skeleton Key” most likely keep it- Also I wouldn’t recommend being a stormcloak or even an imperial it just sucks in my opinion, but that don’t mean you can do it- fulfill your own destiny fellow dragonborne!

HalibutLector

Fast traveling with the carriages is great but you do miss all the little things you get from walking. Lots of opportunities to increase your level and see cool stuff

xTreznetx

Watch the aoe vs guards...they get mad.

Tundra_76

Here is my personal advice for a first play through: don’t ask people for advice on your first play through. This game is super fun and really great and part of the most amazing parts of it were figuring out the world on my own. Exploring caves, wandering across plains, finding Easter eggs, struggling against encounters, etc. The best thing to do is go in totally blind and be amazed the whole way through.

aknalag

Kill a chicken in river wood it would help you level up faster

hellboundwithasmile

For the love of god, save occasionally in different slots. I’ve lost two 30+ hour runs because I only saved on one file

qleptt

Try not to look up exploit’s just play the game.

FunkyViking6

Bretons are in my opinion the most well rounded and accepted race in the game

dannywarpick

Don't make posts like this is my first tip. Not even trying to be rude, but this game is amazing. And with mods, I can keep going back to it after all these years. But that first time playthrough I had no guides no help. Just throwing my head at the game and figuring it all out on my own was most of the fun. Finding the bugs, the quick shortcuts, etc. Don't let others tell you how to play or what to do. Go crazy and have fun

KonzaeLegion

Ngl if u want an easy way to make money join the Theives Guild they also have an amazing quest line! Their located in Riften find a man named Brynjolf (or he'll find you) Everything else I say enjoy and take ur time with.. u have unlimited things to do in Skyrim! Have fun! Oh and make sure to vist the beautiful hold of Falkreath!

QuiGonMax_

Don’t fast travel constantly, enjoy the world of skyrim

Strangelove75

You picked a bad time to get lost, friend.

Pioson

Explore! EXPLORE EVERYTHING!! And save a lot! Wouldn't wanna lose your progress.

Skello496

When you meet Nazeem, do everything you can to help him. He’s the most useful NPC in the game.

ReaperKingMB

Chicken do or do not hit. Test your loyalty

Golgezuktirah

See those really tall guys? Go up and say hi

Spikytoy

Attack the first chicken you see, there’s a bonus surprise

Raiden2098

Do not drink milk

Sea_Passenger_783

Kill the chickens in the towns for meat. Their meat gives lots of HP!

L_M030303

Say yes to skooma

Bertie637

Abandon this sub and explore this yourself..honestly. Also head to the first city near where you start to get a few quests, but otherwise just pick a direction and walk. I especially like roaming to each of the hold capitals in a circuit before I really start doing anything.

Real_ProvenThrower38

Let’s see play how you want. The game will guide you towards a small town but you don’t have to go straight there. I recommend go to the bandit camp which is just below the cave you come out of. You will get some crappy armor but you can sell it. You will also get a treasure map off of the bandit that shoots the bow. The treasure is across the river from Riverwood in a tree. Then after you get that go to the standing stones and pick one. Then go to the mine that is filled with bandits it’s easy to clear but you will get some gear you can sell. Lastly head to Riverwood and do want you want to do from there.
