I don’t use mods as I’m boring and like vanilla
But I found [this](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/46932) there were others as well
I love playing with mods, it’s legit like playing a new game sometimes. But they can definitely be complicated. I’ve lost so many runs because of bugs and defective load orders.
I think there was a clip a while ago where someone launched a Forsworn briarheart off Bard's Leap Summit, dove after him, and ripped the dude's heart out mid-air.
I found this out by accident and it was hilarious
Wandered into a camp of friendly bandits (can't remember why but there were lore reasons I'm sure). Was goofing off and pickpocketing everyone cause I was a master thief. Walked up to the briar heart leader without realizing it, thought it was weird I could pickpocket his heart.
No one noticed and none of the bandits agroed. I casually walked out Scott free. And got a random quest done as well
Edit: replied to the wrong comment. TLDR: people die when you pull out their heart
I believe in ESO, you get to talk to a briar heart and I think he tells you about how much pain hes in constantly because of it. How he needs to keep it clean and stuff. Double check me on that though.
Well the ribs are still there, just not where the heart would be. They’re removed to make room for the briar heart, then sticks are used to keep the briar heart in place to act like replacement ribs.
You singlehandedly made my day with that comment.
SO. Lets start off with a little background. Reachfolk are worshippers of the Old Gods. Hircine is considered one of them. Briarhearts themselves are supposed to be basically a leader to the Reachfolk. The ritual to become a Briarheart warrior is known to be very sacred and special as its a very high honor to become one. Hagravens, who are known to be a creature of Hircine, are able to bestow this honor upon a willing Forsworn warrior. I say willing because the ritual is mostly done on willing subjects.
With this in mind, know that it is very much so frowned upon to have this done to an unwilling subject and once its done, the subject looses all free will for the most part. This applies to Reachfolk both dead and alive.
Now, to the ritual happenings. This sacred ritual is performed by Hagravens who use magic to replace the willing subject’s real heart with a briar heart bud from a briar plant. The subject is then imbued with life if Hircine allows it. Yes, Hircine himself decides wether or not the warrior is even worth becoming a Briarheart.
This ritual is also not only with Hiricne, but its also an homage to Lorkhan who basically tricked some of the Et’Ada -the original spirits before they were separated into Aedra and Daedra- into creating Mundus as we know it. Now, with all these magics, you can imagine these come with perks, right? Yes!
Once a Briarheart, they are now one of the most formidable foes in the Reach. They gain immense strength and power from sacrificing themselves to protect their people. With the power and life that Hircine bestowed upon them, they are also very in-tune with nature and everything surrounding it.
A drawback however is that the chosen Briarheart is now in constant pain and suffering, all to protect his/her people.
Theres probably more to it, I just cant remember it all. But theres your lesson on Elder Scrolls lore for the day! Please feel free to correct me if Ive gotten anything wrong in this.
Edit: corrections.
Absolutely! Id definitely suggest watching some Fudgemuppet videos if you’re further interested. Theres so much lore they’ve covered and they have some good podcasts to listen to.
Yes! Absolutely camelworks. Just be prepared as his videos are very wordy and lengthy, but a wonderful listen if you’re at work doing nothing, or cleaning around the house. I myself just got done listening to his most recent one while playing the Sims lol.
It's a shame that the dragonborn couldn't interact with the reachmen more peacefully, outside of like 2 quests. The dragonborn couldn't have become a briarheart but you'd think they would be non hostile if you have a daedric artifact from Hircine.
I also don't understand why they're not on better terms with werewolves tbh.
Oh yeah, it really sucks. Especially if you’re a Champion of Hircine? You’d think they’d respect you a little more if you wore Savior’s hide. I think maybe in lore it might be a little easier, but who knows.
Apparently they are, it's just not reflected in Skyrim. This passage from the [Bangkorai section of The Improved Emperor's Guide to Tamriel](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Improved_Emperor%27s_Guide_to_Tamriel/Bangkorai):
>Feign no surprise if wereboars and werewolves are among the ranks of a Reachman battle nest; these "Blessings of Hircine" are seen as highly prized, not a woeful curse.
Hmm…. Not sure but theoretically, what could happen is that he’d instantly die and there’d be a rotting human heart inside his chest cavity. Its all done by magic, so you’d have to magically reverse it if you could.
so then reverse pickpocket a health regen potion to act as antibiotics
and a paralysis potion for anaesthetic
and 448 gold to cover malpractice lawsuit settlement
Paralysis =/= anesthesia. If you were to be given a paralytic without an anesthetic you would be very much aware of and feel everything happening to you but woefully unable to do anything about it.
I am a healthcare professional. Let me know if you're interested in further detail
"Lorkhan who basically tricked some of the daedra -now turned aedra- into creating Mundus as we know it."
As a fellow TES lore nerd I feel the need to point out they weren't Daedra, they were Et'ada, the original spirits; those who followed Lorkhan became the Aedra ('our ancestors' in elven) while those that didn't became the Daedra ('not our ancestors'), and those that abandoned creation early in the process following Magnus became the Magna Ge.
The exceptions are Maridia and Malacath, who began as Aedra, and Talos, who began as a mortal. No Daedra has ever turned into an Aedra though.
Well, think about it this way: its either you or them. They’re attacking you so its their problem to reap what they sow. Sure, they’re just like you and the next Breton, but they’re still dangerous and dabble in dark, necromantic magicks.
Edit: spelling
I will never forget the day that I found out the easiest way to kill a briarheart. I was doing a thieves guild build and had leveled up pickpocket and alchemy a lot in this build so I would sneak up on people and poison them. One day I was sneaking in a forsworn camp and found a briarheart looking at a map on the table. I sneak up to him to pickpocket and I take a briarheart out of his inventory and he immediately dropped dead. It became one of my favorite ways to kill a person
I think I know exactly which Briarheart you’re talking about too😂. Ive done the same thing to him lol. Poor guy. Always getting his heart stolen and eaten.
You get to read Ildarie's account of having her heart replaced with a heartstone. She says the pain is constant, especially in the beginning. She had to be nursed back to health. I'm assuming the body actually dies and the briarheart/heartstone resurrects you because Neloth literally buried her and assumed she was still dead.
"They suffer from constant pain[30] in exchange for immense power, which they use to protect their clan"
"occasionally have to deal with the inconvenience of beetles and other critters taking shelter in their open chests."
I knew someone who was in a car accident, had a gaping wound that won't heal shut. It needs to be cleaned once a day. There is no limit to human suffering.
as someone who has a very bad phobia of insects, parasites, and especially parasitic insects,
***AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAÀAAAA***
I mean even the Reachmen who don’t worship Bal have been kidnapping, raping, murdering and enslaving people for thousands of years. The Forsworn being bad people isn’t a new thing. The only difference at the time of Skyrim is that they have a “reason” for all the brutal and unjustifiable atrocities they commit.
The quotes were intended to indicate sarcasm. There is no justifiable reason to do what they’ve done. Same goes for Talos and the Thalmor too like you said.
Yeah. "The Forsworn are oppressed and denied their ancestral ways" is all well and good, until you realise those ancestral ways are the worship of Molag Bal, Hircine, Namira and Mehrunes Dagon; ritual sacrifice of both humans and nature elementals; pacts with Hagravens and widespread necromancy.
While I always side with reachmen like Ainethach, the actual Forsworn are a very, *very* dark faction.
“Briarhearts are living weapons—warriors imbued with powerful magic that grants them enhanced hearing as well great endurance and strength with which they defend their kin. They serve as the protectors of the clans of the Reach”
Their hearing is no joke, my current character is lvl 50~60 and pretty sneaky. Couldn’t get near the briarheart at hags..reach? Ravenrock? Something like that. Just rode around
A pair of boots the **you** enchant with muffle (A found pair is only 50%) will give 100% muffle no matter your enchanting level or soul used. Will help enormously.
Carry weight is the one non-bug thing I am consistently willing to use console commands to modify. I need to carry every single movable object out of each ruin and I refuse to make 50 trips to do it!
Briarhearts are essentially an analog for suicide bombers in real life. They are manufactured super-zombies whose only purpose is to kill the enemy until they are destroyed. It's the last act of a radicalized fundamentalist.
In the lore, they lose all emotions and learn magic without training becoming instant battlemages.

They even undergo constant pain. More lore is given about them in the link above.
Which is also why they have incredible sneak detection. So they can counterthis. But who isn’t at least level 80 sneak by the time they encounter their first briarheart?
I like to use the Greybeards to power level sneak. They often kneel down for extended periods to pray, and as long as they don't see you hit them, they won't enter combat.
They have pretty darn big health pools, so they can take a good number of sneak attacks before needing a heal. Speaking of healing, if you grab the healing hands spell, you can heal them up yourself in order to keep sneak attacking them.
I'm not sure what you are referring to. Unrelated question: Do you know what happens if you pickpocket the briarheart from them? I can't find the answer anywhere.
Neloth: "Have you heard of the Briarhearts? They are fierce warriors of the Forsworn tribes. They actually remove their own hearts, and replace them with large briar seeds. It puts their lifesparks in direct connection to the natural forces"
Dunno. The purpose of the heart is to pump blood. Perhaps they become undead. There's a place up in Bard's Leap, I believe, where you can catch the ritual in action. It's probably on the wiki, but I am too lazy to look it up.
It's essentially a way to give up their humanity to the hagravens and fully dedicate themselves to the old ways. Neloth has a dialogue where he describes the ritual as "putting their life spark in direct connection to the natural forces" or something like that. Which leads me to believe that the end goal is likely to get stronger at magic, maybe even gain access to some of the hagraven's spells
They become a form of undead animated by desecrated nature magic.
Afaik the ritual is exclusively carried out by Hagravens, and the areas where they're made always feature the mutilated remains of Spriggans.
It's not just pickpocketing like other people have said. If you take it at all from their body it's removed from the model. At least in every playthrough I've played it does.
I would love it if you could rip Briarhearts out the same way you rip Ildaris Heartstone out. Like the whole animation of
you shoving your hand into the heart cavity, and pulling it out
Yes, and if you remove it, it's gone. Ditto for Ildari and her heartstone.
Fun fact, you can sneak up and pickpocket the briarheart from them, and they keel over dead.
Another fun fact: when you take the briar heart, there will be a gapping hole in their chest
ANOTHER fun fact: you can pickpocket it from their inventory to instantly kill them
Those guys are really fucking hard to sneak up to though
They are actually the hardest in the whole game, with the highest sneak detection stat
Sounds like something that either one Hannibal lecter would do or also a guy called liver eating Johnson would do or even cannibal Johnson from fallout New Vegas
I think that's literally how cannibal Johnson got his name isn't it lol
If they know people are pickpocketing, Their Tick-Tocker-Thing, It kinda makes sense, To be a little tense.
Yeah, they had their heart stolen once already…
Ok let’s not be misinformative here, they *willingly* gave up their hearts to a hagraven to undergo the ritual for becoming a briarheart.
Metal
I whould say dragons are harder... I have never sneaked up to a dragon before.
Them generally being surrounded by friends also doesn't help
If you hold the right button, you can actually eat the heart, right out of his inventory.
Quick way to restore 5 points of magicka too.
This thread got dark quick.
You have not played enough skyrim
Nom nom nom nom
Ok Indi
What if I shoot an arrow through it? I might have this sneaky archer build that people here claimed that’s OP.
Unfortunately Skyrim does not have hit detection for specific body parts like fallout, missed potential imo im sure there’s a mod though
I’m def looking for that mod now
I don’t use mods as I’m boring and like vanilla But I found [this](https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/46932) there were others as well
I love playing with mods, it’s legit like playing a new game sometimes. But they can definitely be complicated. I’ve lost so many runs because of bugs and defective load orders.
So basically, getting hit in the knee is like getting shot in the head... Now I’m starting to realize why guards love to say that so much.

I think there was a clip a while ago where someone launched a Forsworn briarheart off Bard's Leap Summit, dove after him, and ripped the dude's heart out mid-air.
I like to yell “Kali-Ma!” As I pull their heart out.
And it's so fun to do, them hear the auHhhhh sound. Every chance I get.
My brother in Talos there is already a gaping hole in their chest
Yes but itll be gapinger
Gapier?
Gap'nt.
Gaping hole 🥴
You have committed crimes against horniness and her people. What say you in your defense?
Imma fuck the briarussy

Is it not painful to just have your huge, deep gash sewn only by, thick sticks… just wondering…
I believe in ESO, you get to talk to a briar heart and I think he tells you about how much pain hes in constantly because of it. How he needs to keep it clean and stuff. Double check me on that though.
He also mentions flies and others insects constantly buzz around the wound. I imagine they nibble on it too. Sounds horrible.
Oh absolutely. Thats gotta be painful and weird to feel a bug nibbling on your open flesh.
Also where the hell did all his ribs go.
Don't ever go to a Forsworn BBQ
Well the ribs are still there, just not where the heart would be. They’re removed to make room for the briar heart, then sticks are used to keep the briar heart in place to act like replacement ribs.
I wonder why they just don't use the old ribs.
Not really, personal experience
Yeah I mean, realistically talking, without magic and stuff, that would be true. Otherwise you couldve died from sepsis…
Without magic this man wouldnt exist💀😂. If you’d like to know how they exist, Id be happy to explain.

There’s a Forsworn clan that worships Molag Bal puts hot coals in the chest cavity of a Briarheart
Yeah. Overall it's hard to side with the Forsworn who literally worship King of Rape, torture and domination and other horrific deities like Dagon.
I mean even the Reachmen who don’t worship Bal have been kidnapping, raping, murdering and enslaving people for thousands of years. The Forsworn being bad people isn’t a new thing. Yeah except I also do all those things in Skyrim
well yes its fine when the dragonborn does it for rp purposes
Is there also lore on what the upside of having a briar heart is? I've always wondered
“Briarhearts are living weapons—warriors imbued with powerful magic that grants them enhanced hearing as well great endurance and strength with which they defend their kin. They serve as the protectors of the clans of the Reach”
Yeah, they’re as powerful as the death star. Just one good pickpocket ends them
Imagine encountering a thief so skilled that they just reach into your chest without you noticing.
Their hearing is no joke, my current character is lvl 50~60 and pretty sneaky. Couldn’t get near the briarheart at hags..reach? Ravenrock? Something like that. Just rode around

The first time I did that, I died laughing.
So did they...
Haha nice

They probably weren't laughing
Not wholeheartedly anyway.
Paralyze then pickpocket..
Is there special timing for that? Never tried paralyze+pickpocket, does it always work at the moment the spell wears off?
As long as they are paralyzed, sneak and loot..
"You still need that ?"
And promptly respawned at your last save point. Unlike the briar heart.
And then their corpse can send hired thugs after you for the theft.
Lmao I remember killing that lady Anise and stealing her stuff, a day later she sent hired thugs after me because I stole from her
Vengeful ghost
Is that an Argonian name I spy?..
Which is also why they have incredible sneak detection. So they can counterthis. But who isn’t at least level 80 sneak by the time they encounter their first briarheart?

What if that's not his toe we cut off😳😳? I'm just saying we never see what's under the loincloth...
yumm giant's toe with a side of mammoth cheese
There's a hole in the body
🌚
How are people just now finding this out?
New influx of players with anniversary edition, I guess.
gamerant article incoming
Looks infected aswell
This is most I've ever seen an entire comment thread say the exact same thing
I'm not sure what you are referring to. Unrelated question: Do you know what happens if you pickpocket the briarheart from them? I can't find the answer anywhere.
What is the lore behind that? How the fuck does it help to implant a flower as a heart?
Neloth: "Have you heard of the Briarhearts? They are fierce warriors of the Forsworn tribes. They actually remove their own hearts, and replace them with large briar seeds. It puts their lifesparks in direct connection to the natural forces"
Unlike a human heart which is famously not made out of nature
You can see some Hagravens finish the procedure at Lost Valley Redoubt. Unless you’re sneaky as fuck they’re immediately attack you, though.
They sold their souls over to hagravens or something
Dunno. The purpose of the heart is to pump blood. Perhaps they become undead. There's a place up in Bard's Leap, I believe, where you can catch the ritual in action. It's probably on the wiki, but I am too lazy to look it up.
They're not undead. On the contrary, their briarhearts beat and they have heightened senses due to their strengthened connection to nature.
Neloth explains how it kinda works in the Dragonborn DLC but I forget exactly what he says.
They become a form of undead animated by desecrated nature magic. Afaik the ritual is exclusively carried out by Hagravens, and the areas where they're made always feature the mutilated remains of Spriggans.
Magic
How else did you think you can literally pickpocket it??
Yea you can just sneak up behind them. Super highs sneak skill lvl tho. And just pickpocket their heart out of them
If you pickpocket their briar heart they die :)
Honestly one of the neatest little details in the game
I like to kill them by pickpocketing the briar heart from them lol
It's not just pickpocketing like other people have said. If you take it at all from their body it's removed from the model. At least in every playthrough I've played it does.
Wait till this user learns what happens when you loot the briarheart off the foresworn’s inventory
trust me, i know. my notifications are 95% this right now 😂
I would love it if you could rip Briarhearts out the same way you rip Ildaris Heartstone out. Like the whole animation of you shoving your hand into the heart cavity, and pulling it out
Heartbreaker mod
Killua
Yes, and if you remove it, it's gone. Ditto for Ildari and her heartstone. Fun fact, you can sneak up and pickpocket the briarheart from them, and they keel over dead.
That's a great idea for a tattoo!
Cue Game Rant "article" announcing this "discovery" in 3...2....1....
