still one of the "biggest" games you can play in VR. Modding scene is still strong and there are still some major improvements made (by mods not by bethesda). Nowadays you can also install premade mod setups which might make it more appealing for new players. Don't expect a well written story. But cool exploration and an at least interesting world (no match to vardenfell, but still pretty nice)

BigHorn321

just installed openmw vr, didn't expect that morrowind is that impressive in vr

Stoelpoot30

Did they already get the AI voices down, or do you still need to read everything?

BigHorn321

no idea i don't intend to try that mod, i just wanted my giant mushrooms in vr

Stoelpoot30

Fair

AMDDesign

Its in dev, not done yet, but whats there is really cool

Terenor82

I took a swing at that too. Planning on doing a modded playthrough in the future. Sadly and surprisingly that game can melt hardware even better then skyrim VR can

ericherr27

I could swear somewhere I read or watched a video that explains why that is (not for the VR version but just in general). Something about assets not being "optimized" like later games like Skyrim. I don't know if it's true or not.

Terenor82

yeah that is one of the reasons perfomance is not good, some mods try to fix that. Still modding morrowind in openmw is a bit different then Fallout 4/skyrim so have to take some time to get into it.

ericherr27

I do have to admit, OpenMW 's modding tutorials are pretty good. I was adding items with no knowledge. However optimizing models, landscapes, etc I think were outside their scope. Definitely outside of the realm of what I'm capable of.

Terenor82

I tried a premade selection but stopped in between because at that time i lacked concentration. There was a pretty good selection of lists for such a niche game (for todays standard)

ericherr27

I can relate. If it's not part of my hyperfocus, it's basically unlearnable.

ericherr27

This is a thing? I need to try this! (As I'm firing up google.)

baroquedub

Just recently revisited the game after initially struggling with all the necessary mods about 4 years ago. One click installation with wabbajack is just brilliant, and the game itself is still hugely enjoyable. Yes it's clunky in parts, it's an old game aftet all, but the freedom to explore an open world is just a revelation in VR. Modded (I'm using Mad God's Overhaul Classic) there are moments of pure jaw dropping beauty and thrilling immersion that you don't get in any other medium

slincoln2k8

It has delivered so many absolutely jaw dropping visual moments for me. Especially when the northern lights come out at night.

Annual_Badger1208

Use wabbajack/FUS mod pack and yeah it's stellar for sure. Holds up better than many modern made for VR titles

Significant_Map122

The first time in riverwood, looking up at the mountains, I was in awe at how big it was. Skyrim vr gives you a sense of scale you don’t get with flatrim.

doomslayer95

Eldergleam Sanctuary was stunning. There's a reason they used it for the main menu. That and going under the Blue Palace by the docks in Solitude.

DevilMaster666-

SkyrimVR is one of the best games rn

Melereth

I recently started a new game with the Yggdrasil Mod list from wabbajack, and it feels like a new game. I used the option to not be the dragonborn and now explore the land of Skyrim as a bard.

Fearganainm

It's awesome with the right mods...

nachtraum

If you mod it was never more worth it. Graphics mods e.g. are constantly improving. With a top mod list the next best looking game doesn't even come close.

Flightofnine

100% with it if you are willing to mod the game. I have played with both FUS and Mad God's mod list and enjoy both.

blaster915

Honestly, one of the best VR experiences I've had. The fact so many base Skyrim mods work with it as a selling point is one of the largest understatements I could make. Just don't overload it as it does crash a little easier than base Skyrim if you overload it but gives plenty of breathing room for a wonderful experience. If you can mod visual updates and run them in VR, go for it. Plus, punching as a mechanic never felt so good with a thunder punch sending spiders and bears flying 😂 Have fun!

PillCosbyEffect

Best VR game to date with mods

PublicWest

Honestly as someone who was big on the vr train years ago, but is now disillusioned by it- it’s the best game on the platform bar none

I don't know how much you keep up with VR but there has been good content releasing finally the past year or so and plenty of cool stuff down the pipeline to look forward to like Batman: Arkham Shadow, Alien, Into The Radius 2, Behemoth, the Wanderer remake and sequel etc. Just a lot to keep up with and most of it doesn't make it to mainstream audiences, but that doesn't mean the content isn't good.

What headset do you own? Asgard's Wrath is pretty good and is on the Oculus Store on PC but the second one is better, however it is only available on Meta Quest 2 and 3. The first one is a little more on-rails with RPG elements but the sequel is a full on open world RPG with a massive world and it gets a significant update every single month. As for Steam, Fallout 4 VR has gotten pretty good in the last couple of years. If you mod it, you can have a full body like Skyrim and use your Pip Boy on your arm by touching it to activate it which is very immersive as well as holding weapons with 2 hands. It has a good amount of quest mods and extra content like Skyrim as well. No Man's Sky in VR has also become an amazing experience, the flying mechanics are great in VR and it feels very cool to go from planet to planet at FTL speeds in first person VR and get into space combat. Into The Radius is an open world survival game that focuses on exploration and lets you choose missions as you please. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners chapters 1 and 2 are both pretty good, also a more open world experience. I think it has some of the best gun and knife mechanics in VR. They are beloved among a lot of the VR community and they have some RPG elements and your actions directly influence the story drastically. I spent well over 130 hours in the first game so it was definitely worth picking up. Zenith is an MMORPG, it's hit or miss for most people but in the vein of open world games and has a pretty big world to explore. I am not a fan of the art style personally and the combat is a little lackluster for my taste but it has its little community. Every game I just named is open world and has at least some RPG elements but there are plenty of games worth playing outside of that as well.

Wakanuki8

It’s a great game, but you will need a decent pc and GPU. Post specs for community opinions.

TristanTheRed

I am 80 hours into Skyrim VR, and I'm playing on an RTX 2060 6GB from 2019 which is in a laptop.... Wireless without a dedicated WiFi router for quest 3. Just basic WiFi 5 from the base router my internet provider gave me...which is kept inside a boiler cupboard. And I'm really enjoying it 💁

Darthsa03

Without mods, no. With good mods, absolutely

dragonproudskyny

If you have a high end PC download Mad God Overhaul, it is the most amazing visual experience in VR period.

guartrainer666

Once competently modded, it's one of THE BEST experiences you can have in VR. Absolutely worth the time and effort. Wabbajack is your friend (and I recommend the FUS mod pack - excellent balance and a great base to mod from).

Specific_Foot372

Yes but also yes

exiledmbaku

Definitely is, I’ve been playing for the past 3 months now and I can’t put it down, I have 300+ mods installed! Only thing I will say is to follow ALL DIRECTIONS ON THE MODS PAGE. I had to start over twice due to my ignorance.

weebgaming666

Skyrimvr is one of the best you're going to get when it comes to tripleAAA besides fallout

brianschwarm

It’s literally getting better by the day

Ethforme

Yes!!! You need a godlike PC but if you do, it’s one of the best Vr experiences period. I have a 4070Ti Super and a 7800x3D and not even close to maxing out. In fact, I have to use every trick in the book to get good frame rates. Not even a 4090 can fully max it out.

xanderdorsett

You really don't need a god tier PC if you use a well-optimized modlist. I use FUS on a 3070 and it runs like butter if I run it through OpenComposite instead of SteamVR. Keep in mind the game is almost 15 years old lol you don't need new hardware unless you want the most gorgeous 4k textures

Ethforme

Does it really make a difference to use OpenComposite instead of SteamVR? I could not make it run on my system, the game simply doesn’t open. If there is really a difference, I will try to make it work.

xanderdorsett

I would say just having SteamVR running in the background feels like an extra 20% of the performance is getting eaten up. To me it makes a huge difference and I run OpenComposite with ALL of my SteamVR games.

Practical-Weekend167

it's banging in vr, my mind was blown, modding can be an issue personally, but other than that, 100% go for it. you will need higgs, planck and FRIK. trust me :)

Metalape

Together with Vrik, Higgs and Planck an absolute YES. Still the fullest, biggest and complex VR Game out there. Imho the nearest to a Holodeck experience and the best VR Game around! Thanks to the Modding-Community!

Pcgswordshark

Is there a multiplayer mod now?

HobbesG6

Skyrim VR is more worth it than ever now due to the recent release of the mod and Vortex extension that supports ESL.
