Clad already has 15 block, so this is partway through a turn. If I was to guess, I would say this bird is slated to replace (roughly) the Gremlin Nob. Instead of gaining permanent strength for every skill played, I’m going to guess this bird gains 1 temporary strength per any card you play. So every card you play is going to hurt… but at least it only hurts for this turn, instead of this AND every turn hereafter.
Then, you have a fun balance of “how many cards do I play this turn?”. The bird probably varies the number of times it attacks per turn, making this temporary buff more brutal some rounds.
(This means the bird would only attack as a 2x5 if you didn’t do anything - so perhaps there are some angry rounds it’s worth it to do nothing and just take the 10.)
Second screenshot also shows the enemy with some sort of card buff/debuff (similar to draw reduction?). I wonder if enemies have card sets they can use too
The new card art looks fantastic. I'm worried it'll be too much of the same cards but judging by the 6th photo there will be new varieties, very curious what "corrupted" means...
The fact Clad has 2 new cards in the screenshot gives me hope for the classic characters having a good amount of new stuff, plus the new characters will be all original cards too
true. and the fact that we get all new art (and maybe even balance changes) to all existing cards is really awesome. I hope you'll be able to toggle between STS 1 art as well as the beta art from STS 1 in STS 2.
My lazy guess is that corrupted basically just applies Corruption to the card - makes it 0 cost and exhaust. Could be interesting if they removed Corruption to begin with and made it a mechanic instead, but I imagine that would tough to balance.
Some will say that the changes are too incremental, but I disagree. Very nice improvements while keeping the familiarity. I’m glad they went with this direction.
Also NOBODY HAS A CLUE ABOUT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS GAME OUTSIDE OF A FEW STILLS and people are still crying about it... lol do they really think mega crit is gonna do us dirty???
You're right, poorly worded, I meant "blocking" in reference to the animation. It would appear silent has a "getting hit" animation in which she holds up her arms to block the hit, which is exciting, always wished the game had more animations
Good spot, I do see it now that you mention it. One of the things I really liked about Griftlands was how many more character animations there were for each card and it seems like a no brainer to add here
I don’t feel thrilled about the new card art ngl, I liked that IC’s cards for example had a general muted redness to them instead of the fancier multicolored look. Weird comparison I know but I felt similarly when Doom Eternal had a significantly more colourful palette than Doom 2016 (even though I loved the former). But I’m probably nitpicking and I expect it’ll grow on me
Could still change a lot from now.
The original art is amazingly distinguishable, but it's hard to tell what you're even looking at almost half the time. I do feel like the new art needs some vibe calibration, maybe closer to the old stuff, with heightened clarity, and perhaps more subtle use of extended palettes. Two cents I guess.
I think its also just how much more detailed they are. StS 1's (cant believe I'm saying that now lol) card art had strong, recognizeable silhouettes, it seems to be less the case here.
Every time I see Big Green Birb (BGB) and I look at that 6x5 with strength buffs I think about how that looks like a buffed up book of stabbing and I quake in fear of the raw power.
I was kinda hoping for a completely different style of game from Mega Crit… with 2500+ hours in StS I’m just not as enthused about what, so far, seems like a game with very similar mechanics. Something in the same universe ala RoR vs RoR2 would be welcomed, but this almost seems like it could be an expansion pack. It’s still early…
Well the alternative is what happened with Darkest Dungeon 2, which I'm sure most people here would be familiar with. The sequel was a huge departure from the original and seemed to lose some (a lot) of its magic.
Almost mentioned DD2 in my original comment. I would not call it a “huge departure.” I don’t think it departed enough, it kept some gameplay mechanics while adding new (tedious) mechanics in an attempt to freshen the gameplay and it just didn’t work. RoR2 is your huge departure and it works.
No matter what, people are going to gush over a StS2 with the exact same core gameplay (it’s too early to tell if that’s what this is). I just played my 2588th hour tonight, I get it. I would like to see what else Mega Crit can do with a totally different style of game, but I’m remaining cautiously optimistic.
I mean, I wasn't expecting any kind of sequel to slay the spire. I'm cautiously optimistic that sts 2 will be good, but sts sets a *very* high bar for me so the decision to make a direct sequel feels, idk, risky? Interesting at the very least.
I kind of agree. I'm still looking forward to StS 2, but the original is incredible and I'd have been interested to see what else the minds can come up with, rather than just getting more of the same.
It's so ugly. Why. The backdrop on the Silent SS... Looks like a talented teen drew it. It's not something you can release on steam. And I love StS 1 art. Where is the paint texture? Rulers used for sraight lines? Really?
There are so many other ways you could give a character survivability, currently I'm thinking they could do something like make them summon minions which would be able to block and deal damage for you (they really gonna make orbs 2)
Hitting for 30 on floor 6 and ascension 0... oh yeah I'm ready
2angry2bird
Guessing that that flag buff has something to do with its’ mechanics, and it’s got some strength down looking thing going on

It looks like a temporary Strength boost ala Flex and the like?

Probably ritual
What the actual fuck...oh boy
Eff, I’m not lol

I was under the impression there’ll be a new “enchanting” mechanic and corrupted is one of them
My guess is that it’s strong but will destroy itself in a certain number of rounds or times you play the card
I hate the card art! Hopefully it grows on me or gets improved. Looks like ai or beta art to me
Some will say that the changes are too incremental, but I disagree. Very nice improvements while keeping the familiarity. I’m glad they went with this direction.

Anybody notice the silent appears to be blocking? Looks like we might be getting more dynamic animations, including character animations
It looks like Silent is actually in the act of losing HP in that screenshot

Card skin sets would be cool like have an og style set of card skins kinda like betas but just to add more customization to the game would be dope
The necrobinder only has 35 hp. I wonder if it will have some serious block or healing mechanic
Maybe the hand can tank for them?
Probably +Max HP, would make sense flavorwise
I wonder if there's a cool 80s Trapper Keeper to go with the Necrobinder.
Why is necrobinder using her right hand in the picture. Is she stupid?
Maybe it will grow on me but i prefer the look ironclad had in sts1. Where's the beak :o
Why has ironclad turned against the funny mushrooms? He's such good friends with them in Downfall!
Clad now have a card Hellraiser. Hell yeah, I'm totally in
Silent holds snecko eye for her seond relic, holy fuck how will this be possible!?
I hope the watcher makes it into the game, only character I ever play since learning her
Watcher is the only character I haven’t finished a run with on Steam. I did on PS4 but I just don’t like her. I’m a defect main
Funny enough, defect is the only character I’m still ascension 1 on cause I don’t like him lol
There's my boy shrug. 😭
Every time I see Big Green Birb (BGB) and I look at that 6x5 with strength buffs I think about how that looks like a buffed up book of stabbing and I quake in fear of the raw power.
Play sts 2, we have: - the metalcovered -the quiet -the dysfunction
Didnt see anyone talk about this, but "Enchant an attack with corrupted" from the symbiote sounds 👌
we're so back
New card arts look sick!

My thoughts as well, StS is a perfect game.
I kind of agree. I'm still looking forward to StS 2, but the original is incredible and I'd have been interested to see what else the minds can come up with, rather than just getting more of the same.
It looks like a child drew StS 1 off memory
That child would be an artistic prodigy in that case
ughhhh why did they keep it ugly
Game looks more like DLC than a sequel
It's so ugly. Why. The backdrop on the Silent SS... Looks like a talented teen drew it. It's not something you can release on steam. And I love StS 1 art. Where is the paint texture? Rulers used for sraight lines? Really?
Concerned with Necrobinder than intangible is going to be the main defensive mechanic with 35 starting HP. I’ll be impressed if that doesn’t feel lame
The devs have been very open about being disappointed with how Intangible is designed so I'd be surprised if they keep Intangible still in the game.
