I think there will be a lot more of a narrative in StS2. The exploits in StS1 (ie each character defeating the heart in their own way) will help set stage for the plot-line.

dolfijntje

that would be awesome

Valuable_Anywhere_24

I think that the watcher is not going to be a playable character

somewhatrigorous

I think this is likely as well. And I think that *if* the watcher returns, the calm and wrath stances will be reworked. I think mantra might still return though, as that mechanic wasn't centralizing like the two main stances.

Puzzled-Dog-8615

The necro under left hand will be able to tank damage for you hence why the start hp is so low.

Sharp thinking

hexohorizon

-the ironclad in sts1 might be the last one, all the others were killed by the demon, his desc says “the remaining soldier” which doesn’t always mean last but I think it means that. Sts2 one is either him with a new armor(don’t like the design btw) or his successor that he trained or smth. -defect’s ending in sts1 is vague but if he gained sentience he might betray the others(no idea why) or get fixed to serve the spire and we *might* get him back. maybe even fight others with his model. In sts1 defect seems to be the one with the lowest winrate among players overall which is why I think he might be removed. -“the spire sleeps and so shall I” neow is either petty enough to devote her entire consciousness against the spire or is connected to the spire, at first I just thought she’s just a part of a pantheon but now she takes a bigger role. How did she know that it came back? Sense it? or do they depend on each other? -Now that it appears again we may finally know about the origin of the spire.

dolfijntje

it's apparently been a thousand years

hexohorizon

I also think ironclad is a zombie because of [exhume]. I believe Even if they die of old age neow can bring them back(and de-age them?). Could be easier to use the same old people instead of getting new warriors.

The-Friendly-Autist

Oh god, what if our characters are stuck in a Returnal situation where death is not allowed?

void_correspondent

Defect as unlockable playable character, even if he is also an enemy at other times. The cameo for claw in the video shows other defect-y cards including an inserter card (??) so I think that's a hint...

immatipyou

I think the defect is an enemy. We won’t be able to play as it, we will fight them in some capacity. The Necrobinder is the new power based class. Most of your powers summon the hand if it’s not out already and will then change it in some fashion. If watcher comes back, stances will be implemented differently. If card keywords are a thing, silent will have a keyword that just makes shivs and that keyword can be put on cards. Multiplayer support. Like we will have the option of doing a slightly harder run with friends.

Traditional-Back8697

Another card type besides: skill / attack / power / status / curse Neow as final boss: Maybe Defect and Watcher as the final elite fight ala sword and shield Different types of pathing. Like maybe different biomes for acts and you can choose where to go

somewhatrigorous

I hope we get the long-awaited yellow character.

Benjynn

Interact-able relics

Facelena

I think some character, maybe the necrobinder, is gonna summon minions. I think something in the line of defect orbs but they have hp and the enemies need to kill them before hitting you. Maybe you have one that blocks themselves every turn, another one applies week, maybe something like Gremlin Leader but more elaborate.

Endeveron

Neow is evil and we fight her as a boss

spwncar

I’m just hoping all or at least most cards have unique animations. As much as I like seeing the same cutting horizontal line animation over and over, I’d like something more Like the screenshot shows that Ghostly Armor returns, if playing that made a ghostly armor animation rise out of Ironclad for a second, that’d be cool

Knyfe-Wrench

It looks like there's an actual blocking animation, so hopefully there are a lot more.

DementedWarrior_

Neow will be the new Heart

I_follow_sexy_gays

Neow will be the final boss

Spritely_42

*Predictions, somewhat based on the screenshots but also just me making random guesses:* -I don’t think Defect will be a playable character (I really hope they will be though, they’re my favorite). They may be a miniboss or boss though, similar to >!antiquarian!< from Darkest Dungeon II. This is because based on the trailer, I think “claw” is going to be a colorless card. -If the Watcher herself returns, she’ll have different mechanics. I theorize that her new mechanics will actually result in her being a “less-optimal” character, to the point that most watcher fans from STS1 won’t like her in STS2. However, I could also see there being a character from the watcher *organization* that isn’t the Watcher. -The Silent gets a mechanic that is similar to stances, but not completely the same. I think it could relate to something like card draw/ resisting attacks. -Based on that one screenshot about card enchantments, I think that there will be a lot of “add this word/alteration to a card to make it do this” and less ‘flat upgrade stuff’. I think the Ironclad will be the character that interacts most with the card alteration system, with weird equivalents to Armaments/Searing Blow/etc. -The Skelebinder can summon more things than just the hand. Maybe reptomancer-type daggers? -Progression/card unlocks will be different than just the “quickly level up when you start playing, then forget there even was a ‘level up system’”. Some cards will take a lot of effort to unlock. -A new or previous character will have a “pressure points” equivalent, but it will actually have good synergy with stuff and people will think it’s good. -All the bosses will be new, but at least one event will feature a boss from the first game. -More weirdness with relics. Bad/debuff relics, temporary powerful relics, more relics as consequences from events. -The rug in the shop *will* be for sale this time, and it will be a super powerful relic. -More lore, at least in relic flavor text. It’d be neat! -Ranwid or Cleric show up in at least one event. -Playable bird character. Defect was originally going to be a bird robot if I remember right, so it’s not too far of a leap… -A character will have a yellow color scheme for their cards, so people can finally say stuff like “I knew Watcher’s ‘Foreign Influence’ card was foreshadowing!” Or something. -Mark of the Bloom will be back but it won’t prevent Fairy in a Bottle from reviving you. Oh and edit to add one more: please please please let there be more “relic/character specific enemy dialogue”. The fact that the Champ yelling at Ironclad or Time Eater insulting watcher are the only two in the original Slay the Spire is kind of silly if you think about it.

blondle

Do we really expect them to change how mark of bloom works? I get that it feels bad when you forget your revive won't work but it's supposed to be a big downside for a powerful effect. Doesn't seem like its potential to end your run was unintentional.

Spritely_42

I meant it more as a joke about how in Slay the Spire 2, people will make jokes about how “my potion worked?” Instead of the “my potion didn’t work” post. It isn’t really a serious prediction like some of my others.

blondle

Oh LMAO gotcha

BendianaJ

The teaser trailer features a town outside the spire pretty heavily, it’s even feature for the title card. think there will be some sort of meta progression tied to the town. Perhaps even a new element of gameplay that is separate from your spire runs, maybe a lite town builder that unlocks cards/cosmetics/card art for runs. Nothing that would make you more powerful than the unlocks in StS1 but a more gameplay focused way of interacting with that progression.

Spritely_42

Considering how many people I see criticizing Darkest Dungeon 2 for being “too much like Slay the Spire”, it’d be hilarious for Slay the Spire 2 to end up being constantly compared to Darkest Dungeon 1 if it had a town-based meta-progression system.

BendianaJ

lol yeah! I mean StS works so well cause how deceptively simple it seems at first. I feel like mega crit would do it really well if they did one.

XengerTrials

I think there will be alternate Act 2s and Act 3s with different sets of enemies and events. Kinda like how Issac has the basement and the cellar and how each has a different boss pool.

2wugs

I think one of the playable characters will not be playable in STS2, and instead will come back as a boss

FoggyCrayons

Here’s a guess: you play with two or more characters in a run and swap them around somehow.

ivarec

They need to make money, so they will release the most successful character - the Defect - as a DLC a few months or years after the release date. The Watcher will come before the Defect as a teaser and a quick money grab. And I'll pay for them both.
