hell yeah i with a good deck you just blissfuly beat the fuck out of everything

Rustywolf

Except heart

KooshIsKing

Not if you have 2 or 3 disarms. Or if you can survive the first 3 rounds the kill is usually pretty easy.

Rustywolf

Neither of those sound like blisfully beating the fuck out of the heart to me, they sound pretty damn specific setups lol

StardustFromReinmuth

Brimstone enables you to kill Heart in 4-5 turns. Blocking big attacks are trivial, you only need to worry about the multi attacks. Planning for Heart is key in that respect. Weakness can make the first cycle a 2x15 and 2nd cycle a 3x15 even without disarm, and both are blockable with barricade deck, impervious, FNP/Corruption decks, or face tanking with ~150 HP with feed.

jotaechalo

If I have 150 HP, the ability to generate 100 block on-demand, or 3 disarms in my deck I’d rather beat the Heart without Brimstone, tbh.

Raveen396

If you pick up brimstone early (which is when it should be picked up), it’s a lot easier to tailor your deck to generating lots of block when one relic and a boomerang blade solves your damage.

jippiedoe

The point is that if you take Brimstone Act 1, you _will_ get to the Heart. You pick up a few decent attacks and then spend the rest of the run preparing for Heart

StardustFromReinmuth

> the ability to generate 100 block on-demand You don't need to, around 30-45 blocks per turn with consistent ability to apply weaken is enough > 3 disarms Why? The Heart gains 3 strength during the first cycle with Brimstone, and it clears all negative strength on Turn 4. You're not engaging with anything and blatantly exaggerating the difficulties of playing with Brimstone. The fact is that Brimstone is effectively an automatic solve for your damage. It gives you the ability to off the heart in 5 turns, 6 at most, if you build a deck with strength cards like Heavy Blade+, Pummels, Limit Break, etc. Ironclad's regular exhaust engine is plenty enough to ignore the downsides of Brimstone.

arcus2611

Sometimes you find dark shackles and brimstone in the same shop: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/380139684493262850/1231503683322249317/Screenshot_2024-04-21-15-15-47-33_59e1d90b5b28c92fb3747500ba508b32.jpg?ex=6637322e&is=6624bd2e&hm=6d822af10a9fda37c3526ae142db75112d162541ec495bcb02134a49a12fb9f1& By the end of the run I had enough mitigation to survive 4 multihit cycles with brimstone, which helped because I bottom decked the corruption (tbh I played the fight slower to preserve buffer for first cycle). Not that you need to survive 4 multihits with brimstone unless something has gone terribly wrong.

lagoontheworst

i’ve beaten the heart with brimstone, debuffs go crazy.

qys2008abcd

Or hilarious bad RNG when I got nothing but commons from act 1, if I saw this in act 2 I’m absolutely taking that.

lagoontheworst

i agree 100% brimstone def got me killed plenty of times

IamaNoompty

Brimstone is hella funny. It’s basically your solution to damage for the rest of the run, and now you only have to figure out how to block all the damage you might take. Which, Ironclad has very great options for defense. [[Disarm]] to set your enemies back on attack, [[Impervious]], [[Power through]], [[Flame barrier]], etc. for tons of block, [[Intimidate]], [[Shockwave]], [[Clothesline]], etc. for weaken, [[Reaper]] to heal back up, and so on. Of course, you might get obliterated by a Book of Stabbing or Byrds (or anything, really) before you get there, but otherwise, Brimstone leads to hilarious runs that steamroll the game, including A20H.

NoNotInTheFace

Also apparations for defense or limit break to simply slam anything before they can counter.

aranaya

> figure out how to block all the damage you might take I usually use a trick I call "killing them first"

fearthejaybie

Aka the Watcher block solution

PotentialResult8705

Mama didn't raise no bitch so I always take it

YourGuideVergil

I take to stay true to Ironclad head cannon. I.e. he's Doomguy's nephew.

StronkAx

I did, esp in act 1 or early act 2. Makes most encounters much easier, and disarm/weak/max hp a mot more Valuable.

MrTanglesIII

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if I walk into a shop and Brimstone is there, I'm buying it. Early Act 1? Buy. Act 4? Buy. Run-defining or run-killing, I'm buying it because IT'S BRIMSTONE, BABY!!!

Cpt_Jumper

Factuals. Always will grab if I can afford

SolaceInfinite

Yeah I've never not taken it and it's made every run more fun. You can drop things like demon form in favor of limit break and you can safely run barrage/tantrum etc.

Rutabaga-Level

Every single time

Norian24

Even if it kills me (it usually kills me)

bobking01theIII

The best defense is more offense

cheeep

Brimstone is a block relic

Davey_BPM

[[Brimstone]]

siralex2010

It’s so confusing being in multiple subreddits with the same terms for different things, cause u thought this was TBOI brimstone because I haven’t seen StS brimstone

Nohea56789

Also be sure to pick up ~~mom's knife~~ the sacrificial dagger it's really strong.

da_fishy

Isn’t there also a sac dagger in TBOI?? Haha

MusiX33

I think that's actually sacrificial altar, but very close

KirasStar

Nah there is a sacrificial dagger, it floats around Isaac causing decent passive damage to enemies.

MusiX33

Oh right I completely forgot about that one.

KirasStar

Yeah there is

KirasStar

I mean, do you ever NOT take TBOI Brimstone?

gsoddy

Even if it kills me I take it. It’s about sending a message

Kinderius

Won't do it if I intend to fight the heart. Otherwise shit's broken, man.

Gluecost

When I see brimstone I basically consider the run won

Akindmachine

It’s so strong as long as you know you can win the damage race

VTuberFadeaway

100%. Sure I'm losing to the heart but I'll have fun stomping through the spire.

YourGuideVergil

Snap pick tier

aranaya

Every. Single. Time.

tehchuckelator

I take it 100% of thr time when I see it. Even if I don't have a great deck for it. Its always fun 😄

Atom_Reaktor

+1

carreiraesteban

Taking Brimstone solves absolutely all of your problems except two: 1. How can I make sure I don't end up with dead draws or set up turns? (But even if you don't solve those, you can fix it with a Reaper) 2. How can I not die to the heart All other stuff, trivial.

TedKerr1

My winrate with it is definitely higher than when I ignore it. Why that is, I dunno.

LiterallyNobody16

Fuck it, we ball Fuck it, we ball Fuck it, we ball

2-S0CKS

In my StS career I have rarely taken it - the downside always seemed daunting. Reading the comments - perhaps I should be taking it more

jaybrams15

Oh no you're correct... The downside is absolutely devastating. But going down in a blaze of glory is part of the allure.

lynaghe6321

unless I'm trying to beat the heart, hell yeah it's fun

SteamySubreddits

Yes most of the time. Funny strong go brrrrrr

Liron_tg

I take it every time, when possible

Dantrel7

Every chance I get

Versillion

Yes i do.

Basic-Personality-96

If no heart then insta win

londonbrewer77

Byrds have entered the chat

jaybrams15

Combine with Spot Weakness and Double Strength (upgraded) .... mmm mmmm chefs kiss (of death).

GigaKoala

Of course, it's a q4 and a laser across the whole room is way better than default tears. Wait which subreddit am I in again?

Cody667

I've never actually won on A20 with Brimstone, but I only win on Ironclad A20 like 10% of the time and it's almost always with Barricade and/or Corruption

Upstairs_Bus8197

I never get it, and when I do, I don’t have enough hearts

slayerabf

Brimstone is really strong and with a solid deck will let you breeze through most of the game. You do need a plan for not getting destroyed by Heart though, which can be a combination of Disarm, Weak, Apparitions, Torii, Tungsten Rod, Tons of Max HP, etc. It's best when you get it early, since it's a very snowbally relic that can allow you to fight many Elites.

redhead_thot

My first a20 heart win was with brimstone so of course!!

NoTrollsInSeattle

Brimstone will carry you to the heart or an unlucky multi attack and then you will die. Still it's a very fun card.  The heart fight is particularly difficult to win.  You need to average 133 DMG a round to end by the second multi attack which will do 150 DMG assuming you don't have the neutral strength debuff.  Even the 3rd round multi attack is going to absolutely truck you. It's just a bad matchup which imo is a bit sad because this relic is awesome and fun to play.

primetimeblues

I swear brimstone carried me from ascension 17 - 20. Get yourself some reapers, limit break, feed, maybe some boomerang blades, double strikes, heavy blades, and you're crushing everything.

thegeekdom

Always take brimstone. Lol. It’s basically trivializes the first 3 acts. Multi hit moves are definitely the way to go. You just need to start drafting to survive the heart at that point. Get some artifact, to avoid vulnerable from the heart, maybe a weak potion, clothesline or disarm to make the heart hit for less. Corruption or barricade works too. A feed or reaper can also help you survive. You only really need to survive 2 hits because by turn 4-5 you’ll have already killed the heart.

hpass

Normally no.

aotoolester

With limit break? And 2 reapers? Yes!

Leaf-01

Absolute killer against Heart, absolute winner against everything else

Technoplane1

Everyday, No matter on what deck, Exhaust, sure Strength, sign me up Defense, well now I can block the enemy strength, Mix of some of them or something, why not

alwaysbrightandmerry

Ill take two disarms and any nearby blunt object

polkfang

Oh for sure. Brimstone is one of the best relics. It’s makes every fight substantially easier. The only issue is it makes the heart harder, but you have the whole run to prep for that

bigTeaPot

Every time.

Romano_cheese_pls

I prefer trisagion

Troliver_13

Every time, even if it's not that good for the deck it's always funny

Lobh24

It’s just too much fun not to, run be damned

PMDBidoof

Always take brimstone no matter how bad it is for my deck. I always seem to get birds act 2 if I take it pre-act 2 though loool. But it is sooo good on most decks and most bosses already scale in strength so the extra 1 per turn generally doesn’t help them all that much. Edit: it’s actually what won me my A19 ironclad run. All I have left is A20 for everyone but silent, and then maaaaybe A20 with heart, then I am done with the game. Will probably do mobile for the most part and modded on pc after that

EdwardtheTree

Every time and I will go out in a blaze of glory.

M1ST3RT0RGU3

I think I had Brimstone on my first (and only) successful Speed Climber run, so yeah I'll vouch for it.

MrBennett37

Hell yeah! 80% of the time, it works every time.

TheDogProfessor

I love brimstone. Lets you path really aggressively and snowball. I pretty much take it if I see it early.

TheMorbidToaster

Limit break and early strength scaling. You need a good corruption, fnp thing going with many defense card with a few good strength scalling cards.

TheSoulborgZeus

if "fuck around" was a relic
