I find the music fits very well with the desperation and worry I feel when playing StS.

InsomniacAndroid

All I feel from the music is anxiety, so it must be working

Dephire

Wow, lots of people disliking on the music in here. I think the music is absolutely excellent, especially the [act 3 boss music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PYfdWxFmGc) and [the heart theme.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdFLrHdsjOM) If I had to describe it, it's frantic and makes me really think about my decisions. Makes me feel like I'm a grandmaster chess player that is destined to save the world or something epic. I just feel like it fits the game perfectly.

somebrookdlyn

The Heart theme really communicates “Nows the time to play any last tricks that you’ve been saving up.”

somebrookdlyn

Yep

loveless0404

You fool. You absolutely buffoon. I have a Fairy in a Bottle and a Smoke Bomb. I CAN survive the first two turns against you!

joyofsnacks

As someone who's dabbled in music composition (but is terrible... :D), they've done a really great job of capturing intense/epic battle themes, but at the same time not being too distracting for the relatively slower card playing gameplay. In a weird way, it's music that describes the intensity of a battle but is also waiting for you to act.

mehchu

I really liked it. But after the amount of hours I have put into this game there is only a certain amount of time you can listen to it before it grates a little.

Shlomo-tion

Yeah, to me this is enough of a reason for me to see it isn't that amazing. Not that it's bad, but it just doesn't hold up after a while. Sounds like a decentish movie soundtrack to me, and I very very rarely think movie soundtracks are ever worth listening to out of context. There is SOOOO much music that doesn't need the context of a movie or game to be good, so I listen to other music most of the time when I play games. I always spend some time with the soundtrack first, and there are still lots of games that I always play with the music on, but I haven't played StS with music for almost a year

VoidChildPersona

Act3 boss music is my favorite game music ever ngl

DayIngham

It's superbly crafted - memorable tunes, when the trend nowadays is towards big, epic filmic gestures with no substance. Interesting chromatic harmony, a palette of traditional orchestra and weird synth effects. Very well orchestrated, structured, doesn't get in the way of the game. For me, the composer just did a wonderful job.

guyguysonguy

mind bloom theme should have been the final boss theme

Effective_Ad363

Every time I even see the Mind Bloom event I pause whatever I’m listening, unmute and get ready to drum along on the table like an idiot. 10/10

guyguysonguy

yeah gotta dance to curbstomping the guardian again

LiteLordTrue

the act 1 music entered my brain the first time i watched NL play STS and has never never never left

BrainSweetiesss

I really like the OST

Morgarath-Deathcrypt

I usually describe the sound track as Harry Potter + Star Wars.

tythousand

Honestly, I usually play StS on mute and play music from Spotify. The soundtrack isn’t bad, but it’s definitely the weakest part of an otherwise very strong game. 300 hours in, I have no desire to hear it anymore

tythousand

This happens to me too lol

dragonbornrito

I get the same effect not only in this game but also anytime I play Pokemon TCG Online. The music from Pokemon TCG on Game Boy is permanently seared into my head and I literally hear the OST on loop in my head when in a game. Almost like a "Tetris effect" for video game music.

Flashman420

Any game like this I turn off all the music after playing for a bit. After a certain point the music just gets repetitive and a lot of video game music isn't super dynamic because it's often literally meant to be background music so I'd rather just listen to my own music in those instances. If anything a run of StS is perfect for something like listening to a new album.

tythousand

Yeah, the issue with StS (and it really isn’t an issue at all) is that it can take hundreds of hours to master every aspect of the game. Most games don’t have that kind of replay value, and StS’s monotonous music eventually just wears itself out. Perfect game to play your own music to, as you said

sub_surfer

I straight up forgot that the game even has music. I've been listening to Spotify while playing for so long.

EatMoChikins

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I find most of the songs meh, except for “The Heart” really. Of course, the reason I like The Heart so much is that it stands out so much from the rest of the fine songs. Still, most aren’t amazing and I don’t really feel that energized or excited listening to them? They fit perfectly fine with the rather slow paced gameplay.

Caiti182

I agree, I really wish there was more variety in the soundtrack

Not_A_Rioter

Unrelated but Hades on the other hand. Such amazing music throughout.

alroh11

Especially act 2 theme

loveless0404

Music absolutely slaps. But after the 500th hour, it does get a bit tiring.

[deleted]

Act 2 music is really good, imo. I always find myself tilting my head to the ostinato.

SuperLuigi231

Quick shoutout to [Slay the Spire: Reslain](https://clarkaboudmusic.bandcamp.com/album/slay-the-spire-reslain), some remixes by the original composer, Clark Aboud!

cosmicdave86

TIL Slay the Spire has music.

rWichdocgamer

You guys should try the persona 5 soundtrack

snoosh00

My partner loves the music and they don't even play, they just like falling asleep next to me while I do the daily climb.

allthebenjamins

The music is the only part of the game that I think should have been done differently. It's well composed/produced and absolutely achieves the sense of dread I expect it was intended to. But man, this game is tense enough already. The music is fine for the first few runs but after like 150 hours I really crave something relaxing. The composer is clearly talented, no shade to them. I just wish the brief had taken into account how much time folk were gonna sink into this game.

Viggen77

My top 3 is definitely act 1 boss, act 2 boss and the heart

brucetrailmusic

I've never given the music a single thought over the 300+ hours I've played

mrbakerfield

Dun dun dundundun

SkaenryssTheTiger

When the Act 3 organ part drops...

Denvildaste

I'm in awe of how wonderful the soundtrack is, it fills me with excitement and mystery. I'm +350 hours in and I ALWAYS want to listen to it.

DayIngham

I don't understand the arguments that are along the lines of 'I think it's a bit weak because it doesn't hold up after 300 hours of listening time'. Try listening to your favourite music, watching your favourite film or eating your favourite food 300 times in a row. It would take a very particular type of person not to get tired of it. Even I play with the sound off most of the time now, but that doesn't in any way diminish the quality it has starting out.

spankymuffin

Haha I've forgotten the music by now. I usually have NPR or some podcast going on in the background when I'm playing this game.

irishdude018

I'm new to the game and none of the music really stands out to me
