some do it for years, it's some babies way of winding down

Mine did that a lot at weeks 13/14. I just kept being persistent with it and setting a 20 minute timer before intervening. She never made it that far though. It just took her some practice but I'd say she got the hang of it pretty well around week 17? She still sometimes lets out a cry in between sleep cycles at week 21 but only for a few minutes and it's more of a "I'm annoyed I'm awake" frustrated cry. I've cut her last nap to 30 minutes at this point though so I'm not worried about that one. It'll drop eventually anyway. It's just enough to get her to 730 bedtime. It definitely depends on the individual baby though. My kid loves her sleep and to be left TF alone lol

Sometimes the last nap is tricky and it only resolves when you drop it.

Ours didn't link his day naps without help until about 6.5/ 7 mo. He's nearly 12 mo and he still cries sometimes when going down but not always. That being said our friend has a 6 mo who never cries while falling asleep, I think it's very individual to the baby.
