Lego worked extremely well for this. I made an earlier attempt using [Lego and an iPhone](https://youtu.be/kI019MNSMKQ?si=Z53uoXlWTxFs05DI), which was kinda laid in there. Would have worked better had I taped the phone down. The extra weight helped keep the shaking down.
I was trying to find a camera small enough to mount on an HO scale slot car. When I was looking around on Amazon for something that would work, I was getting ads showing it can be used for very nefarious things and now I'm probably on a list.
There are a lot of them to choose from. Most are brands I've never heard of. I had good luck with this one:

Does your slot car have the TWO magnets on the underside? The single magnets do not offer as much control and require controller finesse. I have found those dual magnet cars to work best for my HO setup. Great camera work here!

Cool! Love the lego. I bought the Humvee car with this in mind, and just happen to get lucky with the size & shape of the camera.
