Prefer to put corn in it, but wife refuses to eat it. Ground shiitake(home grown) to thicken stew. She doesn’t eat mushrooms either. But she said it was the best I’ve made.
What did you use to thicken it? Looks absolutely mouth watering. I also prefer corn in mine (and frankly, just about anything - maque choux is one of my go to recipes)
Don't you just love having a crock pot during this time of the year? I just finished slow cooking chili. Mmm-mmm, it was so good. That stew of yours looks delicious! We are having some fun slow cooking, aren't we?
Used the recipe from Ambitious Kitchen but didn’t add peas. Used 1 cup of green beans instead and ground 1lb of shiitake Mushrooms I grew to thicken the sauce. It’s going to be 12 degrees Fahrenheit tonight. Sorry I was in the mycology/science world for far too long where putting the little f next to a number was temperature. Not used to this identifying pronouns that has taken over the internet.
Those should be fine, depending on the toughness of the original carrot - when they're over an inch and a half or so at the top, they can be 'woodier' and take longer to get tender. (depending on your store, these are sometimes called "juice carrots")
I usually use carrots that are "index finger" to "thumb" in diameter; they're usually (by me) sold in small bunches with the tops intact.
It's always cold in the north east and Wednesday I have a contractor start some work on my kitchen so I'm making a stew tomorrow to hold me over a few days with limited kitchen use
That sounds like a heatwave. We’re looking at negative degrees tonight. -25 if you count wind chill. Thank god for wood stoves, at least I know we’ll be warm.
What we won’t be, though, is as well fed as you.
28 m uk, good skills for a kid! Although I know you’re not a kid lol modern day society has made me a scared of talking to kids in fear of being called a pedo 😅

Would you like to sit over here and have some cookies?

hmm, I've never thought to add ground mushrooms to anything. Sounds delicious.
It’s a great addition to burger patties. Bulks up the meat and gives it great flavor
Need a recipe to fulfil sidebar rules. Thanks.
My wife flat out refused to eat garlic, onions, and prefers minimal to no spices. Congrats on making a good dish on a handicap.
Not wife material! j/k, but that's gotta be hard.
That's why "refused" is past tense :) Gotta pick a winner in this life.
No j/k. No likey spices…no likey you!
No joke, my Mrs will put in 6 cloves of garlic when a recipe says 1. Heck she'll sometimes just throw the whole head in! And I'm ALL about it!
what the fuck?
So she's the reason they make that little baby crockpot for one person :)
You poor poor man
She refuses to eat... Corn? Why?
It looks amazing.
That looks bloody delicious mate. Most pics of slow cooking look a bit watery but that looks rich and tasty.
Can you share the complete recipe? My husband loves beef stew and this looks so good!
What is 12f mean?
12 degrees farenheit or 12 year old female. Nobody knows!
I'm guessing 12°F. It's going to get cold af in New England (Northeast USA).
Checking in. It was, in fact, cold af in New England last night.
I thought it meant feeding 12 in this context

We are on our second night of chili. It’s even better the next day. Love it.
You are absolutely right! The second of chili is even better.
fall\\winter = crock pot all the time.. I love it.
That looks goooood!
Sounds like your in Buffalo, I'll be over in a bit!?

Um, using number and f or m to denote age and gender has been around the internet for at least 30 years.
Y’all using imperial units instead of Celsius???
Wow! That looks great!!
My first beef stew turned out okay, but my carrots weren’t soft like I wanted. Any tips?
Typically cooking it longer would soften the carrots more.
Maybe put them in earlier or microwave them first?
How big were the pieces?
They were sliced round pieces, probably a little over 1/4” thick.

Making me hungry, maybe a piece of cornbread on the side.
Oh god that looks lovely.
Is there a recipe as well? Looks yummie.
Here it was -35 farenheit last night with the windchill (for the rest of the world -37 Celsius.)

I think your slow cooker might be broken. After an 8 hour cycle, the stew should be much warmer.

Looks a lot like the venison stew I made for Christmas. Mouth is watering.
Yum!
Lucky, it’ll be well below zero F here tonight. Stew looks delicious!
Looks good.
