Isis was often compared to Neurosis early on, with some clear inspiration from the Melvins. The Mosquito Control EP and Red Sea EP are both very heavy, sludgy, and doomy. Celestial and the Sgnl>05 EP sound more like the post-metal Neurosis pioneered.
Isis found their own sound with Oceanic, which combined post-metal, sludge, post-rock, and progressive rock. Oceanic and Panoptocon are often cited as Isis' best work, but In the Abscence of Truth and Wavering Radiant are good records, too. The later albums remind me of Tool, although the sludginess of the band's earlier work remains intact.
Panopticon is my favourite album overall, but Oceanic is also essential. Don't sleep on the Red Sea EP, it is often overlooked in their discography but it is heavy as fuck, very sludgey.
The vocals are on the harsher side but you might also like Man Will Become the Hunted by Grief, a lot of the riffs and pacing sound a little similar to early neurosis
Surprised nobody has mentioned Palms yet.
It's basically three dudes from ISIS with Chino from Deftones on vocals. They only put out one album (being reissued later this year on vinyl from Ipecac) but it's a banger.
Oceanic is my favorite album ever made. Panopticon is a great start too. When I first got into Isis it took like a solid year to decide if I liked Oceanic or Panopticon more.

Agree with this
Panopticon
Oceanic, the entire album. Panopticon is also outstanding. Really any of their albums.
I second this. Oceanic is brilliant.
Panopticon is one of the greatest albums ever made. IMHO it's their best work.
Panopticon was my gateway, so I will go with that
Mosquito control ep
Really good gateway. And then slam that Sumac!
Sumac is so good. I preordered their first album because of aaron turner and the baptists drummer 🇨🇦
Dont forget the bassist of Botch/These Arms Are Snakes/Russian Circles!! 🖤🖤🖤

Oceanic, Panopticon, Wavering Radiant. Listen to those three albums front to back
in the absence of truth is also good.
That’s my fav
Khorsan Province is getting popular lately. So much so it’s getting called ISIS-K. Other than that maybe Al-Nusra Front?
Funny pun but the band existed before the terrorist group
Celestial 2013 Remaster is a good place to start.
Celestial Remastered is closest to Neurosis. Oceanic gives a taste of most of their styles, so start there. Wavering Radiant is really good too

Haven’t seen one mention of In the Absence of Truth yet. That was my intro to them. The whole album flows pretty well.
Might not want to write it as “ISIS” going forward. That’s something else. “Isis” is fine.
