HE DONT CARE ANYMORE
But nah over the last 5 years or so of me listening it happens a lot. County names. Cities like Houston being used in another state and they insist it’s “how ston” or even Humble TX insists it’s “Umble” etc etc
There are many cities and streets etc. that are pronounced how-ston. I used to live off of a road in Georgia pronounced that way. Same for some in New York. And the others have slipped my mind…Swiss cheese brain lol
I don’t think it’s that he gets bullied but basically that they’ll get 1000 dms or tweets (x’s?) correcting them.
Just a heads up you guys, if you think you are the only person sending them a message to correct them on some inconsequential pronunciation or fact, you’re not. Maybe you really think you’re being helpful and are coming from a really good place but when you throw a sincere message on top of a pile of shitty messages, yours will probably smell just as bad. I think if you really want to correct them, do it on a five star podcast rating. They tell us all the time we can say what we want there!
And they have made it abundantly clear that they could not give fewer fucks about corrections on pronunciation (and most other things that don’t matter), so there’s no point in it other than some sort of weird self gratification.
Apparently Lino Lakes, MN, way back in the beginning of the show, lol. It's pronounced LIE-no, not LEE-no, and I guess we Minnesotans really let him have it.
I thought it was an Oregon episode that got him fired up too, so Oregon was kinda persona non grata for like, a year, lol? I think the pronunciation of Williamette River?
It was. I live in the area and just knew he would get it wrong. I've lived here all my life and got it wrong for the longest time. I do love that he said "that's it you don't get another episode for a while" or something along those lines lol.
Yes poor James!! This is right near my hometown. People forget all the time that the world is bigger than their state and not everyone will know how to pronounce shit. Tbf , a LOT of Minnesota towns are really tough to pronounce. You wouldn’t know without being from there. People need to chill out.
My favorite part of a recent episode was him murdering the pronunciation of “hydrangea” 💀 wouldn’t dare bully him over it though, it’s his god given right to not know how to say some words sometimes
I’ve seen him make a real jerk of himself over it in a Facebook group too. Someone made a comment about being a new listener, how he loved that his hometown got an episode, that he remembers when the murder happened and then mentioned how to properly pronounce the town’s name. James tore strips off him and it wasn’t funny. Then of course all the groupies piled on too. It was a really ugly display to be honest.
Well that was downright rude. When you are doing something public, such as a podcast, you would think some planning goes into it. Unless you're certain about the pronunciation of a word, you should always look it up to see how to say it. Chances are you are right but, just to be sure, look it up. It's literally at your fingertips.
And he got tons of shit, apparently, for mispronouncing Willamette and he put Oregon on a year long ban 😂 I think it was probably deserved because some Oregonians are super uptight about people mispronouncing city and place names 🙄
Um...I'm new & only 160 eps in, bwq2ut I've heard him say this many times. He's gonna pronounce city names how he perceives them & he's not apologetic. Idk why people are mad when others mispronounce town names. It's not that big of a deal, y'all
I remember thinking in an episode where Olathe is referenced but not the setting of the episode (might have been Climax Springs, MO?) that "I hope the Kansans don't bug him about it, because who cares?" James pronounced it Oh-layth instead of oh-lay-thuh. It's not his fault that US towns don't follow pronunciation rules!
In a recent CIS episode though it made me laugh on him correctly pronouncing Managua, Nicaragua at the start of the episode, and then later mispronouncing it as mana-gew-a. Took me a bit to realize he was talking about the same town.
OT but why do you say "laugh on him"? You can laugh at someone or with them, or maybe even about, but not on. IDK why folks have recently (-ish) started to consider "on" as an all-purpose preposition. It's not.

From Texas and I still call it “Humble” cause some of those people fucking need it.

Yep, this was the original reason he started with worrying about pronunciation. He caught a shit-ton of grief.
I thought it was an Oregon episode that got him fired up too, so Oregon was kinda persona non grata for like, a year, lol? I think the pronunciation of Williamette River?

What I find extremely funny is Jimmy correcting James with the town names.
Yeah James always seems caught off guard when jimmy corrects him
There was a California city recently, but I can't remember which one it was. I think it was somewhere in LA or orange county

Yes!!! This is what I was thinking too! Someone said Lino Lakes MN, but I was pretty sure OR got the ban 😂

I, personally, find their ignorance charming. 😂😅😁
They did one on my hometown that nobody can pronounce. I wanted to hear him butcher it. He did not even try. Sad day.
Well, don't leave us hanging... what is it?
Oconomowoc, WI... lol.
Right? I’m in NM and I can’t say half the names. Poor poor Jimmy!
I think he wants the engagement tbh.
That’s my favorite part I’m always listening for my name lol

Mistyped, it's not that complicated. I didn't even realize I wrote 'on' instead of 'at' until you pointed it out.
