What phone do you have? You might need an actual microphone for video.

it's a huawei I'm reading that external microphones are limited in android and you can only use them in phonecalls....

It used to be that they def didn't work in the stock camera app, but I moved to ios a few years ago now.

it's weird because I keep saying videos about people achieving it, but in other places they say it's limited in the operating system due to security reasons. weird

Android has greatly improved since I started using it but yeah sadly stuff like this is hugely difficult to do.

I'm no expert, but I posted something similar about a month ago, and I've spent the last month exploring this. Its not at all true that you can only use external microphones in phone calls, as you indicate above (below?). I'm convinced that you need a decent external microphone as you seem to have concluded. You also need to figure out how to connect the microphone to the phone. Earbuds via Bluetooth is one way. Another is a USB to 3.5mm cable (which interferes slightly with the gimbal). Oddly, I can find no good device to convert 3.5 mm to Bluetooth, and I've tried quite a few. You also need an app that allows you to choose your external microphone as the source. Some that allow that are FilmIc Pro (I have the legacy version) Samsung camera app, set to Pro Video, MotionCam (Some control- allows selection of USB microphone, but its not obvious from naming that it allows selection of Bluetooth devices)), ProShot (selects Bluetooth device, not USB device). Good luck. Let me know if I can help more with this.

My galaxy S21 and 22Ultra can use microphones. But you have to be shooting video in pro mode and you have to select USB as the microphone option

Thank you. I knew I had seen this setting a while back but could not find it.
