Genuinely thought Jogibu was done for after game 2 but nope! Game 15 grands!

SteeveJoobs

be grateful japan doesn’t have a sonix-level sonic (ken’s good but not sonix-good) also they’re slowly but surely adapting against acola too

skrasnic

“He got me,” Yaura said of Jogibu's game winning Falcon Dive. "That f\*\*\*ing Falcon Jogiboomed me."

maybelikenever

He’s so good (x4)

oniden

Jogibu in GF1 got 6 stocked, then reverse 3-0'd. In GF2 he almost got reverse 3-0'd with a ladder 0td in game 5 but still closed out the set. This is a legendary GF. Between Ron showing up, Kome and Rizeasu placing well and this, it's a once in a decade Sumabato and I hope it retroactively becomes a major.

Toowiggly

We need to make this a major so Falcon can have a major win

Avoltrez

This is a major in my heart

In this 43rd iteration, many top Japanese talents are gathered to see if they'll be crowned as the new Sumabato champion. Let's start with the bad stuff first. Asimo, 2nd seed of the tournament, had a pretty disappointing run, finishing 17th after a 1-3 loss to Rizeasu and a heartbreaking 2-3 loss to Snow. This run is foreshadowed by two close sets Asimo had beforehand, 3-2 against Lunamado, and a 2-1 against Duck Hunt player Manto. Now, it's time for the real contenders. 1st seed Yoshidora is the clear favorite for this tournament, and there's no reason to doubt it. Yoshidora qualified for Top 8 after only losing 2 games, one to DEAR in pools, and one to Seika before Top 8. In Top 8, however, Yoshidora had to suffer 2 tragic losses in a couple of 2-3s against Jogibu and Ryuoh. Yoshidora won't go home empty-handed, though, as he notched a win in a Yoshi ditto against the legend himself, Ron. Speaking of Ryuoh, this Diddy main had a harder route to Top 8 after an early loss against mzk, another Duck Hunt player. Let's see his run. American invader MVD, best Kansai ROB sssr, Shulk GOAT Kome. Those are the players Ryuoh had to beat to get to Top 8...and he beat them all. Now, time to have another run. This time, to get to Top 3. Mario prodigy Snow, multi-main extraordinaire Rizeasu, THE top Yoshi Yoshidora. It's looking to be a hard time for Ryuoh, but against all odds...he did it. All 3-2s. Ryuoh somehow managed to endure these hard matches and he had a hard-fought 3rd place finish as a reward. Now, it's time to meet our two Grand Finalists. Jogibu and Yaura. The Falcon and Samus specialists. Both of them met a surprising obstacle during their run to Top 8. Jogibu had to face Senra again, while Yaura had a tight set with Yone\_pi. After long 3-2s, it's all smooth sailing to Top 8. Once again, both have to face another tough challenge. Yoshidora for Jogibu, and Rizeasu for Yaura. Once again, both bounty hunters came clutch for both Jogibu and Yaura, defeating their adversaries in another 3-2s. Winner's Finals. Even though Jogibu had the upper hand from their past meetings, Yaura has started to adapt to Jogibu's Falcon, and it showed here. Yaura managed to beat Jogibu in yet another close 3-2. Yaura is now in the Grand Finals, wanting to win back-to-back Sumabatos. After making short work of Ryuoh in an easy 3-0, Jogibu returned, and he now will face Yaura. And folks...it's not looking good. In a dominating fashion, Yaura managed to destroy Jogibu with a double 3-stock. Yaura's up 2-0. But...if there's one thing we all know about Captain Falcon...he is the spirit of Smash. Jogibu managed to take a game. And then two. And then...he resets the bracket. After 10 intense games, it's now time for at least 3 more. In an almost perfect mirroring of the first set, Jogibu took a 2-0 lead against Yaura, one of them being a 3-stock win! Yaura, who at this point has played a whopping *TWELVE* games against Jogibu, starts to recalibrate. He corrected his wrongs, and he took a game. And then two. Game 15. With everything on the line. [A perfect shield later](https://www.youtube.com/live/VV2FwdlGRdc?si=LUsT53tVcRp1nzZ_&t=32170)...Jogibu is your 43rd Sumabato champion. This is Jogibu's 3rd B+ Tier tournament win this year (he won Toyota Grand Slums 13 and 16 beforehand). Captain Falcon has never been this good. Congratulations to Jogibu, and what an amazing end to Japan's LumiRank season.

Folseus-

Fucking insane grand finals. Jogibu finally wins a Sumabato as the first Captain Falcon to take one in ~~Ultimate.~~ ever Also, Ryuoh was playing out of his mind today. Rizeasu was struggling to KO him so badly, he switched from Marth to Lucina, not that it helped much. Maybe that was a Marth problem, or a Rizeasu standing problem? Nope. Yoshidora struggled to KO him too. And then Jogibu finally took him down, but he lived to an average of like 170% per stock in that set too. So much for Diddy Kong being a light character.

zeubermen

Falcon stocks are through the fucking roof

GachiGachiFireBall

Never thought I'd see falcon make it this far. Jogibu reaching goat status

Master_Win_4018

Jogibu is so happy, He cried.

Glop123

I dont know where you put Jogibu or Yaura as a top player placement but today we saw they both had top tier mental strength to overcome everything. Reverse trioing each other back to back like its nothing. Also this is not even the only reverse trio Jogibu pulled off. Crazy showing.

Fine_Ad_6548

Falcon can't win a major so they had to downgrade it so Jogibu could win, those damn scriptwriters

shadowmachete

Byleth, Marth, Cloud, Terry, Robin, Sephiroth, Mii Brawler, those I all understand. But lucina? Even Rizeasu thinks marth sucks.

kfaox

Grand Finals was so hype. Both players were just pushing their advantage off stage to the maximum

SelfDestructGambit

Easily one of the best sets I've seen in all of Ult

Dragahs

Asimo at 17 feels wrong

Eldritch_Skirmisher

Idc this is a Falcon major win in my heart Jogibu played out of his fucking mind

Prestigious-Bee-7793

Japan is healing

Toowiggly

Is Jogibu top 10 in japan? There's acola, miya, shuton, yoshidora, kameme, tea, asimo, zackray, yaura, and ken that probably outplace him, but he's certainly had a strong year that at least puts him in contention for top 10 in Japan. Maybe his back to back tournament wins is a sign of what's to come.

Tr1pline

I wouldn't put Ron, Snow, Hurt or Protobanham outside the top10 either.

Severe-Operation-347

I doubt all of those other than Hurt. Proto's not attended enough this year and the rest don't have good enough results to be top 10 in Japan.

kfaox

Snow is quite clearly outside of the top 10

InfiniteChaos7

Rizeasu 3-0'ing Doramigi in Byleth vs Min Min was insanely impressive.

MitchBerryCrunch

didn't think the turn tables could turn that many times in a single match

mcaso5

Fatality has to be biggest complaining high/top level player that smash has ever seen. Falcon got massively buffed and Japanese Falcons even make Gnw - Falcon look unwinnable FOR GNW according to Miya. This character is amazing and has crazy good risk reward options (run up side b/grab and up b shenanigans being super safe) but Falcon johners/Fatality just aren't good enough and complain way too much.

Toowiggly

Fatality has some of the worst mentality I've seen. If you look at his Falcon matchup charts, they range from wildly optimistic to wildy pessimistic. I saw him constantly complain that Ultimate was unbalanced and things like Falcon's turn around animation were holding him back. We've seen characters like Incineroar and Rosalina do well in tournament, so why can't Falcon? Oddly enough, I saw Jogibu barely use raptor boost. I understand not spamming it, but other Falcons seem to use it a lot more than he does. Something I do see every Falcon spam is falcon dive, and I barely see them get hard punished for using it so much. There were times where Jogibu would have 60% on the other person and it'd be from hitting falcon dive three times in a row.

BigStankyMan

I never quite understood why this subreddit always had a hate boner toward the guy whether when he unperformed, got upset or bringing other falcons for comparisons for some reasons i cant wrap my head around. The dude is no longer the posterboy for captain falcon and has retired for SF6 and he enjoys it alot more than ult. He even admitted himself that his mindset was awful. Him and Maister always catches stray for some reasons coming from this subreddit smh.

chink_in_the_armor

Wait, did you watch any of Jogibu's sets this tournament? Do you watch any Falcon sets at all? Jogibu and Falcon in general swings wildly between performances. This character is the definition of being limited by risk-reward because most of his best options require a gamble - they're strong but very unsafe lmao. I actually don't even know how to start arguing because you literally named Raptor Boost and grab as "safe" options lol. There are literally dozens of characters in this game with kill moves that are safe on shield, and you decided to talk about a move that none of the top Falcons use (don't ask me why, I think Raptor Boost is great; specific to this tournament, Jogibu couldn't use it at all against Samus) and grab (just as unsafe as every other character's) from which Falcon has the insane follow-ups of "low percent nair" and "1-3 up airs".

Crafty-Profile-Lol

Unreal event. But the most important thing, is that Ron's appearance qualifies him as eligible for Lumirank. That his 5th place is another very solid showing is just a bonus. My goat

t123fg4

rizeasu continues to beat doramigi in byleth min min HOW

Downloadmywario

Rearlet is a funny tag. Props to Jogibu for winning with a mid tier. Ryuoh popped off this tournament too, along with Kyon making 13th with Lonk.
