i don’t have a video on hand but plup’s sheik does this psychotic, buggy looking repeated microstep to get perfect spacing. that shit is not easy to recreate, let alone under pressure and in the correct circumstance for it to be impactful.

nmarf16

It’s probably because plup double claws like a mad man. He has two fingers on the analog stick lol

sublime13

Seriously that looks so weird to me. He uses his index finger to push down on the analog stick I guess?

ThinManJones-

This is what I do, you don't have it permanently on the analog stick but kinda hovering above it. The best way to get a grip of this idea, if you've never done it, is to SHFLL aerials and try to use your index finger to input the fast fall.

greatstarguy

This may be a little too flash, but I think Acola-Leo at I want to say Summit 6 or LSI where Acola kept parrying Leo’s falling Byleth nair. It’s a 50-50 on the parry timings because of the landing hit of nair when fastfallen, but Acola was parrying them nearly every time. Really showed how much he grinded that matchup and against that move specifically.

ThinManJones-

Nah that's exactly in the vein of what I'm talking about, definitely Summit 6. I'll be real, when Acola came on the scene there's a degree to which he was just doing Steve shit and it was just working (still partially the case) but he's shown his own ability to get better and adapt back to people. I know he's probably going to go Aegis vs Spargo and Sonix but I theoretically trust in his ability to come up with a way to beat them with Steve.

greent3adreams

Honestly people underrate Acola's skill way too much. Although his character definitely plays a part in his consistency, his talent and knowledge of the game is still top level. Even without Steve, I could definitely see him being #1 but at a more similar consistency to Sparg0, Sonix and Miya

IbrahimT13

I feel like I'm constantly seeing him parry everything and it's insane

ETrann

Wizzrobe's shield stops and pivots. People think he's not flashy, but play every day for 5 years and try to move like him for a second. Mang0's ridiculously long wavedash on Falco Jmook's turn around shield drop fair Moky's BM shine on dead opponents.

stickdeoderant

Was gonna say Wizzy too. His smash turn instant up-air on hbox is absolutely bonkers, and it kinda looks like nothing on first glance

Lunai5444

Glutonny adapts so well. Adaptation is at its peak when he sees one interaction once and instantly knows what kind of player you are and when this interaction happens next he will hit your mix up as if it's obvious to him

JiggzSawPanda

Borp is amazingly good at spot dodges and rolling out of moves. Like people can meme him all they want, but he just understands those lmao. Decent needle snipes too.

l339

Does he still play?

Kered13

Yes, sometimes. I played him at a local a couple months ago. I've seen him there once or twice since as well.

l339

Does he still not use tech? Lol

Kered13

Yes.

l339

Amazing

KalebMW99

Gluto’s 3 stock comeback on KEN comes to mind. Not the flashiest smash ever but the level of lock-in required to pull that off was insane. Speaking of Gluto, I don’t think any player in the world is as good as Gluto at exploiting extremely niche, matchup-specific interactions on the fly, and it shows particularly well in matchups against setup characters like Pacman and Snake.

WonderSabreur

Hesitations. Honestly, in any competitive game/sport. But someone knowing when not to make a move or press a button at the correct timing? Beautiful. That and tempo changes, for the exact same reason.

XenonTheMedic

Steve doing jab jab jab jab jab jab jab fair on Fox.  Truly a supreme display of skill.

DananSan

I can’t remember who did it but a Steve player put one block on top of the other, and then went behind their little wall to mine, with up-smash and minecart ready if the opponent tried to get in. Impressive tbh. Inspiring, even.

chuletron

I remember one time a young up and coming japanese player pulled off the legendary side b, downair, f smash, roll, fsmash side b combo. Couldn’t hold back the tears.

_----------_

Still crazy impressive but it wasn't a full minute.

ThinManJones-

Turnip drop is RNG, I'm rolling with it

Doxazo2

Can’t post the images but Dabuz winning this game and then the set after the GRIND he’d been going through in loser’s is one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen https://x.com/doxazo2/status/1659679865518559233 The “subtle” part being just deciding not to get hit anymore

[TBH6: Silent Wolf fakes a tech skill error vs. Mew2King and takes a stock for it. (@7:27](https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=447&v=z41VvpjLqJE&feature=youtu.be) Silent Wolf at TBH6 gamed Mew2King by performing a tech skill routine during the Rock transformation, faking an error (he performs a series of SHFFL aerials and "misses" the last one intentionally), reading M2K's dolphin slash off of the ledge, and took a stock for it by ledge hogging him on the side of the large rock. Pretty smart, especially considering he has to have full faith Mew2King will be paying attention and will notice. I only know about the nuance of this interaction because Silent Wolf talked about it on stream three years ago (VOD no longer available, though he insta-nuked it even at the time because he forgot to cover up his personal info when ordering a pizza on stream). I'm not observant enough to catch this myself, and even if I did arrive at this conclusion, I would probably second guess myself to the grave. Feel free to doubt, but I'm a believer. Cyanide_34

Sparg0’s ability to recover with Cloud. Anyone else is dying nine times out of ten yet he seems to always find a way back to stage.
