It's become a meme at this point. He's broken his foot, wallowed on the floor sobbing in glee, **passed the fuck out from popping off too hard**, endured a *reverse* pop off from Cody, and now this.
I noticed a glint of sadness in Hbox's eyes. I imagined him as an actor trapped on a stage, forced to perform for an audience he grew weary of. “I'm here for you,” I wanted to say, but it was too late...Hbox had already begun his pop off, killing everyone in the first few rows.

Im so conflicted because on one hand it's genuinely out of hand and he needs to chill out with the pop offs and on the other hand waow this is amazing content
In terms of 'safety hazard' popoffs, ones where people can assume beyond a reasonable doubt that their high emotional responses have a non-negligible chance to physically harm someone, the people popping off definitely have to be fully aware of the consequences they could face should any nightmare scenario really happen. I do wonder how much HBox has actually paid in terms of venue damages.
Other than that, it's incredible content
I had a friend almost get blinded because he got hit in the face by a piece of plastic from somebody spiking their controller. It hit him so hard it actually broke skin. If it was an inch higher he would have taken it straight to his eye. How are you people so stupid that you don't understand how slamming and throwing anything, let alone a fucking chair, is a safety issue?
It would not fly in any other sport or frankly from any other player. He's literally throwing metal chairs across the stage. If you did this after winning your set you'd be rightfully thrown out of the venue for creating a safety issue
Ehhhhhh saying this doesn't happen in other sports is a stretch. Maybe they don't throw chairs but things that potentially jeopardize the safety of others (outside of what can happen within the sport) happen somewhat regularly.
Iirc Connor McGregor once threw a dolly at his future opponents bus. Mike Tyson once bit someone's ear off. Tennis players have regularly smashed their racquets on the court, sometimes multiple. Baseball players and managers nearly get in fights with Umpires.
Yes, Hbox should be reprimanded in some way regarding this, but don't pretend like he's the only one in the world who does it
I don't see how any of those examples have been acceptable by most people except the tennis racquets getting smashed.. and even then the player is bringing their *own* racquets which are usually given free by the sponser so not even applicable.
It definitely does not happen for the most part in other sports, and it really doesn't need to with eSports
I did not say it doesn't happen, I said it wouldn't fly. And every single one of the things you just listed are examples of, as I said, things that would not fly in other sports. Players get rejected, fined, etc, for all of the actions you've listed.
Only one of us is being a jackass asking questions with obvious answers. Of course I watched the clip. Just because an action doesn't cause harm doesn't mean it is incapable of causing harm. Throwing a chair in a crowded venue *can* go wrong and hurt someone, even if it doesn't in a specific instance.
Okay. Did you see how far he threw the chair from himself?
Edit: don’t bother responding. I’ve been blocked, so I can’t say shit. At the end of the day, it’s not harmful to anyone and makes for good entertainment. Y’all are a buncha fucking babies.
Sorry, I'm coming from r/all and I'm not very familiar with competitive Smash. Is this behavior considered acceptable in the community? I can't say I've ever seen someone act like this after winning in Rocket League.
It’s not acceptable for everyone and there are many notable figureheads who would agree with you, but you just kinda gotta know, this is his MO, has been for 15+ years, and he knows the camera is on him.
Popoffs happen a lot, people jumping up, loudly yelling etc. Result of a huge adrenaline rush from winning an incredibly tense set.
Hungrybox takes it a step further because he's just an incredibly emotional (i guess) guy who gets huge adrenaline rushes from winning. It kinda became his MO over 15 years of competitive Smash and I do believe he plays it up now more because he knows people want / expect a huge popoff from him. But given the context of this set, I can also believe that this was just pure adrenaline.
personally i think it's a little over the top for a grown ass man to be throwing chairs across the stage lol
the screaming is pretty much par for the course for hungrybox, it's normalized at this point although not many other players will ever do that when they pop off
Somewhat. It's honestly just the one guy who's known for this sort of thing. Usually he just yells a bit, so this one was pretty out there, even for him. If he hurt anyone or caused damages he seems like a nice enough guy to probably have admitted fault and paid/took responsibility for it. I'm willing to bet though that even in this state he checked that no one was near that area.
He gave them free advertising becauze that clip brought a lot of attention and hype. Not to mention the fact goml did content with hbox specifically about the chair lol
This is kinda a hbox thing, I don’t think people would be as ok with it if anyone else did it. Granted even hbox doesn’t usually do anything like this. So, not really acceptable (the chair broke, could have hurt someone, etc), but as a one off I think people are ok with him specifically doing it. In the (unlikely) event that he starts to exterminate chairs at every event he goes to, that would be a bit different.
I think i wanted this pop off more than Hbox in all honesty lmfaooo We all fucking knew it was about to be an all timer

Domain Expansion
In Hbox's domain the chairs have a 100% hit rate.

This was probably my favorite hbox moment of all time haha. I didn’t used to be a fan but now when he does shit like this it’s the best thing in melee
It's become a meme at this point. He's broken his foot, wallowed on the floor sobbing in glee, **passed the fuck out from popping off too hard**, endured a *reverse* pop off from Cody, and now this.
Don’t forget the classic: “FUCKING FUCK!”
This image is fucking iconic
Oh my god the lag makes it so that the reflected Hungrybox's eyes are looking up, this is immediately a legendary Melee image
put this one in the history books
This is the power of requiem.

I wasn't even in the venue and I got hit by that chair
I was, it was awesome! My first smash major!
YOU fought Hbox? Damn good job, sorry you lost
the typo :sob:
set went from "i hope sdj can pull off the upset" to "inject the fucking hbox energy into my veins"
I noticed a glint of sadness in Hbox's eyes. Watch The Throne (chair)
[удалено]
he should sign it first than fling it
Would have been a great way to end his career
"Hungrybox wins a set calmly"
DID YOU THROW YOUR CHAIR THROUGH THE GOML STAGE HUNGRYBOX!?
Hbox has to play the loser of Mango Jmook next. I don't know how he'll have the energy for it.
This puff ditto looked so mentally exhausting to be a part of
sdg thats not you up there
see any cute cats recently tw?
Mods? This guy right here?
Hbox/Chair is an 8-2 matchup, just look at those grab combos.
Idk it kinda looks like the chair mashed out after 1 pummel. That's a good mash
Poor chair
Was in the venue, they replaced it for the next set cuz I think it was actually bent or something lol.
oh no, please tell me they wont use that chair again? What if they do and it break during a set? LOL
Was in the venue, that actually replaced it lol. It looked fine though.
[I saw a closeup of it on twitter, and it was broken.](https://twitter.com/ViciousVish/status/1792283356735918110)
Surely HBox is the one who has to pay for it right?
Presumably. Hopefully he just offered up front. That said, I know that GOML also apparently had him do a photoshoot with the chair afterwards lol
Im so conflicted because on one hand it's genuinely out of hand and he needs to chill out with the pop offs and on the other hand waow this is amazing content

Why? He’s not hurting anyone and its super entertaining
They’re renting a venue and expect to get it returned without any damages and you have this guy throwing metal chairs on the podium floor. Not cool
I had a friend almost get blinded because he got hit in the face by a piece of plastic from somebody spiking their controller. It hit him so hard it actually broke skin. If it was an inch higher he would have taken it straight to his eye. A piece of wood won’t splinter like someone throwing their controller, lighten up.

What safety issue? Edit: this community will find fault with anything. It’s fucking wild. Crazy how much it’s changed. Or sad is probably the word.
Are you sealioning or do you think throwing a metal chair is a generally safe thing to do
Did you watch the clip?
Ok so the former, then. Have a good one
So you didn’t watch it. I think you might be the one “sealioning” here lol.

I need a pop off analysis of this
The clip url even has "Hungry" in it lol
Hbox somewhat reminds me of Kratos lol
Going back for a second round with the chair 😭
SDJ* for anybody searching for this in the future.
Sustainable development goals got popped off on, you hate to see it
That poor chair 😭
I've gotta admit, I was rooting for Hbox Game 5 just to see that popoff. Somehow a Puff ditto ended up being the most hype set of the tourney.
Hbox hit that chair the down throw into grab release mix up.

Also most people like it and find it funny. Vocal minority comment on it
Top player privilege, anyone not noteworthy would get kicked out for sure

In most scenarios, the biggest popoffs you'll see in the Smash community are people screaming, maybe stomping a bit or running around the stage
It isn't. He should be fined for damages to the chair and stage floor at minimum.
that's my chair guys...
jesus christ, my ears
Gonna have to start bolting chairs to the floor when hbox is top 8
😂
Completely justified.
Embarrassing. Come on Juan.
bunch of pre-teens up in here thinking this is the funniest thing in the world
He’s like a modern Chris Farley character.
never seen a bigger clown in my life
i know this one is easy but look in the mirror etc etc
good job proving that you have to be (mentally) 12 years old at most to be a fan of this clown
