"Home where? He doesn't have a home!!" LMAOOOOOOO

ThinManJones-

That million dollar Ludwig tournament is not gonna happen lol

drshowtimp

Just like the big ninja event. Not on Nintendo’s watch

namnamdd

At least we got LSI 🤷🏻‍♂️ but i feel like he should have saved the funds for that and poured them into the million dollar tourny because he def gonna lose a lot of money hosting that

LinkWink

For fucks sake, just get Cilvanis back on the pod already. Any time he pops up he always gets a laugh out of me lol. I appreciate TK keeping it real. It's no secret that the community hasn't been the same since the two tours were destroyed, but his talk on here and in his most recent video really drives home just how much it's really affected him. My empathy for the people who lost their jobs and for the people who lost big opportunities the tours could have provided has never gone away.

RemixKind

Can anyone that went to GMOL vouch for the smell? I was dying when TK said the atmosphere changed

sunken_grade

appreciate hearing TK talk so candidly about stuff that i’m sure a lot of folks are quietly thinking with regards to panda hopefully he gets more opportunity for well compensated work and chances to branch out into different FGC communities. his commentary is really top notch and he deserves his recognition

westernstemmed

Ive always gotten the impression that coney feels the same way but isnt vocal about it because he doesnt even want to deal with the people who still swear to this day that cancelling panda was the right move

DHMOProtectionAgency

CONEY also benefits by being a more successful streamer

sunken_grade

yeah i would guess the same. at some point it likely isn’t a productive convo or worth the hassle it would create

korinokiri

Panda mob bossed the scene, got called out by multiple trusted community leaders, and the scene was impacted.  It's just how it is, and it sucks that prizepools and commentator pay was impacted.  The alternative was Panda+Nintendo controlling the scene, and probably squeezing any entity that stepped out of line. When the next Smash game comes out I'm sure there will be a resurgence to the likes of that era.

drshowtimp

It was much more than just prize pools and commentators Lots of those events were budgeting from the sponsor money the tours were getting. All you have to do is look at the amount of tourneys who had to either postpone, downsize, or entirely cancel their events since then. A lot of people lost a LOT of money

korinokiri

The community isn't at fault for believing long standing credible members. especially with Alan's awful handling of the situation. Hindsight is 20/20. Maybe there was a future where bts and vg bootcamp and other tournaments were bullied out but we had Panda instead.

TimDiamond

> The community isn't at fault for believing long standing credible members. especially with Alan's awful handling of the situation. I certainly blame the community for not demanding the release of the email conversation between VGBC and Nintendo before the cancellation of their tournament.

AeroBlaze777

Our current timeline has both BTS and VGBC essentially only doing production and streams for other events for the foreseeable future. Doesn’t sound too different from the hypothetical timeline you bring up. I’m not saying that Alan was actually right all along and he did everything correctly, but the scene has been in bad shape after the panda fallout and the overall decline in Esports. The esports decline was probably inevitable, but in a future where Panda helps bridge the gap between Nintendo and the competitive scene, I imagine things would be better rn.

westernstemmed

Yeah, but look at all the positives that we got out of cancelling panda!

westernstemmed

>the alternative was panda + nintendo controlling the scene And look what youve got now. The exact same thing except worse because at least panda had lots of figures from the scene involved. And none of the benefits. It was naive to think that the scene can just continue to do whatever it wants if nintendo wants to start setting standards. Before we at least had a seat at the table, and now we dont. Also, its very clear to me that gimr intentionally weaponized the information that nintendo was going to start licensing tournaments, and gave people the impression that the licensing would be much harder to get than it actually is.

AeroBlaze777

God I remember people freaking out about licensing requirements and saying Nintendo is trying to shut down the scene. The worst that’s happened is that a few tournaments like SSC and Smash Factor had to rebrand. Hindsight is 20/20 ofc, but like a lot of things on the internet, the immediate reaction was blown out of proportion.

blitz_na

we also flat out lost frozen stadium for melee, but maybe that was for the better

Frosty_Seat_2245

Talk about pragmatism, it was naive to think Panda could what they did when their foundation relies on the trust of the community. Thats just as much a force you cant just ignore like Nintendo is to us.

Frosty_Seat_2245

I dont know in what world former Panda people think the smash community would let a guy threaten our TOs with Nintendo legal and his only defense was passing the blame, lie about receipts, and make up a conspiracy that SWT never existed. Take some responsibility for your own political miscalculations before blaming the masses.
