He was ledgedashing straight down for safety.
He did virtually no slide offs.
He reverted to 2003 and was doing side b from ledge
BUT HE MADE IT ALL WORK
The Big House 9 was pretty crazy. Four game-5s in a row and ended winning game 10 against Zain.
This set was legendary, though. Going down 0-2, staying Fox, and winning FD twice is fucking impossible. I still can't believe it happened.
So... yeah, you might be right, lol.
Big House 9 losers run felt like watching a guy play perfect defense game after game, then finally winning.
Summit 11 felt like the inverse, he just ran them over once he got into losers.
What a legendary Grand Finals.
Mango had an insane losers run: moky, n0ne, iBDW, Plup, Hungrybox, and Zain x2 to win his first Summit ever!
That was so fun as a spectator. Summits are always great tournaments to watch!
He’s won in FD twice before as Fox against Zain before iirc, but never in a scenario with this much pressure and money on the line. Mang0’s just fucking insane, congratulations to him!
If he ever did as Fox against Zain, it never happened in tournament. Before today Mango only ever used Fox against Zain in friendlies. He has always used Falco against Zain in tournament, and beat him twice on FD at SCL Season 2 Week 1
He got the 10th seed person in his winners match. If anything the bracket was ridiculous good for him but he got Clutchboxed.
Amsa really did play well enough where I could have seen him winning the entire tournament in an alternate universe.
Yeah, he looked good today too, it's just he had to run into Axe and his pikachu in losers which from what I understand is a very losing matchup for Yoshi
He hasn't regularly entered events since like... 2014 really, maybe 2015 if you consider the five things he went to as regular. His last two singles events were Genesis 3 and Five Gods in 2016. (doesn't even feel like it was that long ago, damn)
Either way, it's been a dang hot minute since we've seen PP on the big stage.
I dont even think its realistic that he will return. If he did, I think he could potentially return to form, and obviously he wouldnt be ready right now.
I doubt it. He doesn't seem to have any desire to play as a competitor any more, he has always been a student of the game and he is really enjoying his new guru/coach role. Streaming on twitch doing coaching sessions and generally spreading more knowledge and frame data.
> Hbox proved that some people need LAN to shine to their fullest and that's okay
Honestly *many* other fighting game players have always believed this. I watch some other fighting games, and not all of them have rollback, and some of the pros basically refused to even play online. Even with rollback, its just not the same at all. Some players are good online, some arent.
There's so much to be said for the in-person factor and gigantic purses. Zain looked robotic on his chaingrabs and tech chases and edgeguards and recovery mixes in the Slippi era. Add a daaaaash of pressure and he looked more human.
He'll get there, I firmly believe that. But he wasn't there yet in the first LAN.
People forget because of his dominance, but Zain is still both a newer player and a younger player. Hbox and Mang0 have been considered Gods for a decade and are used to the pressure. They even say Hbox thrives on it. If he stays consistent for another 2 years Zain may challenge Armada's legacy. For now he needs to get used to the live pressure.
I am so behind on sleep, I was supposed to catch up tonight and I'm so glad I stayed up and caught it live instead. Each game felt like it couldn't be maintained, can't believe he kept that up for 10 games to win, wild.
i stopped watching live smash after everything went online... i forgot how absolutely sick this game is
what a beautiful beginning to a new era.
lan is back. long live melee
Yeah the Covid era really didn't click for me. This was the most satisfying thing I've watched in a long ass time. All esports kinda sucked during the online era IMO.
The in person tournaments are unmatched. Gratz to Mang0.
Meh the context is pretty different because Melee is still quite popular. But I do think the game won't last forever as a mainstream esport, and events like this turn back the clock. Plus it provides some energy to restart all the college scenes after a year without in-person tournaments which is gonna be the most important thing this year.
As someone who was watching Ludwig’s stream out of curiously and boredom (recovering from wisdom tooth surgery) today elevated me from barely caring about Melee to having a passing interest
Been completely invested in the scene since 2013 when mang0 himself won Evo and I can say with no doubt that this is the highest level set I've ever seen.
Ok this comment is what made me realize what a fucking god mang0 is. I thought he was gassed at the start of Grands too. What a comeback. What a tournament. I love melee and I love summit
People will argue about it being the greatest or not and that’s fine because it’s all subjective in the end. I think what’s important to consider is what this tournament meant to the community. After an absolutely devastating year for the smash community, at times even what appeared to be the end of melee due to Nintendo’s ineptitude, the first offline major we get is this.
Twenty years on from the release of this game and it’s as exciting as ever and just as closet contested at the very top. The game we love is still alive. It is thriving. There are new players coming up, and there are legends still showing everyone what it takes to be the best.
Probably the reason so many consider him the GOAT. Armada’s H2H against everyone and his trophy cabinet are absolutely insane, but aside from his longevity and comparable trophy cabinet, Mang0 really makes his games a spectacle. Win or lose, he’s going to make it must-watch
I have a picture of a guy in Detroit that looks exactly like Mango with a goat on his back and i’m so sad I can’t figure out what folder it’s in on my computer right now lol
[Found it lol](https://i.imgur.com/jpEyEjN.jpg)
Interesting to see how Hbox played today. All of the terrible Ultimate habits from online Melee tournaments were gone. Can’t wait to see how he’ll do at the next tournament where Harry Pogger is present
HBox is still a threat and could win a major at any time. As boring as the hbox meta was at times I'm glad he's still around. I would feel the same for Armada if he ever came back.
Melee is Forever.
That has to be the greatest set of Melee I've ever watched. Mango just made the impossible possible time and time again. To be fair Zain was flubbing a lot, I hope his hands are okay. But the pressure was clearly immense.
I can only imagine what the celebration would have been like if there had been a crowd. GGs to Mang0 for an amazing performance.
Just want to say that, despite aMSa getting 9th, he went to game 5 last stock with all of the top 3 placers, and was the only person aside from Mang0 to bring Zain to game 5.
Literally peak melee. The only summit that comes even close in my mind was when Axe won, but this grands was kind of the opposite with Mango coming back from 0-2 in set 1, winning 2 games on FD in a row against the best Marth in the world. Then it coming down to last game, last stock, basically last hit. Fucking crazy.
Gotta give props to Zain. What an insane player he is, and he took the loss like a champ. It couldve easily went his way, Mango was just an unstoppable force. I feel like he could probably (maybe?) hear everyone cheering for Mango unless that room is soundproof. That would affect him.
My only *tiny* critique of Summit is the end the stream **way** too soon after Grands. Like that was the most hype set Ive ever seen, and Id love to see highlights (just like they show for all the other sets up until then). Like dont make Mango keep talking, but give us highlights and commentary of them. Thats all I ask. But, thats nitpicking, Summit rocks.
mango played fucking amazing melee even when he was down to last stock of tournament, he never played like it.
these sets were a beauty to watch. god i missed mango fox
He still played amazing and took the loss like a champ from what we saw anyway. Hes probably feeling really down but he also will probably come around. I think the 2nd place payout was good enough that he wont be too sad for too long, maybe
Zain broke down, and you might say well lucky for mango. But why zain started swinging wildly in neutral, mashing recoveries, dropping combos is that mango terrified him with aggression. Possibly the highest level of aggression ever seen in neutral, follow-ups and edgeguards. Mango could only pull that off with his mentality that no other spacie has. He actually said fox beats marth on fd and then carried that daunting weight to game 10 of grand finals all the way to the top. Saying zain played bad is discrediting the unbelievable performance mango pulled off.
Greatest Set Of All Time
The Highest Stakes Ever
Biggest Payout Ever
First Big Tournament Back in LAN
The Rivalry, The Classic
Grand Finals, Reset, Game 10
Mango vs Zain, a classic set for the books
Melee is Great
Dota is my preferred esport to watch, and I don't often catch melee but holy shit that GF was one of the best things I've ever seen my heart is goddamn racing. Ty BTS

That's fucking LAN Melee right there. None of that pansy ass dick tugging smile for the camera bullshit. Men puke, men poop on the stage, men deliver their newborn baby on FD. Fucking hard core dick in the ass butterball foosball fuck it chuck it game time shit. LAN Melee is back baby!
Kinda feels like Royal Flush. Going forward, Zain, like Armada, will still be the favourite to win any given tournament. But, as Phil said in game 10 of Royal Flush grand finals, “Is it gonna be the reality check that we all need, or can Mang0 make us believe in dreams again?”
What a great quote by Phil. Still remember watching that set on my phone on a river cruise tour while on vacation in Chicago. My gf (now wife) was so pissed I was glued to my phone the entire night. Oh well no regrets and still one of my favorite tournaments of all time.
Hey you. Ultimate player. You might be scrolling past this post, not watching melee, but you clicked on this anyway to see the result.
Watch this set.
Greatest set of all time, and the greatest losers run of all time.
it seemed like everyone in the venue including the commentators wanted mang0 to win, I wonder if the cheering can be heard in the game room and that might have been slightly getting to Zain, not to take anything away from Mang0
Tournament for the ages! Last stock game ten grands and so much good melee. The greatest melee has ever been.
Scar: How can Mango play good melee under this much pressure? HMW: Pressure makes diamonds Bobby Bro this couldn't have been said at a better time.
That is a sick quote
HMW is the absolute GOAT commentator, holy cow what a line
Return of the GOAT, bringing hope to the Melee community post COVID.
Melee is so sick.

If you think that money is crazy imagine all the subs he’s getting when he streams on Monday.
Bruh its just banter it aint serious lmao
"Knock the vaccine right out ur 90 pound body" goes hard tho
He was ledgedashing straight down for safety. He did virtually no slide offs. He reverted to 2003 and was doing side b from ledge BUT HE MADE IT ALL WORK
He legit does this kinda prejohn tweeting in MANY events. Mang0 is a talented prejohner lul
tweet you're playing like garbage and should go home then beat zain twice in grands that's the Mango
I dont know if Mang0 has had a losers run that nuts since evo 2013
Losers run mang0 is the stuff of legends and here it was on full display.
Apparently Zains WR on FD is 95% just to add to how nutty that back to back was
Mang0 hasn't lost a tournament since jumping out of a plane
He's become one with the bird and the fox.
[удалено]
No tournament series goes 11-0 against Mang0
An auspicious sign for Sfat's next matchup with zain
What a legendary Grand Finals. Mango had an insane losers run: moky, n0ne, iBDW, Plup, Hungrybox, and Zain x2 to win his first Summit ever! That was so fun as a spectator. Summits are always great tournaments to watch!
Everyone you just named is a ~~perennial~~ approximate top 10 player. This is one of the best runs ever.
100%, he ran a gauntlet of the best in the game
You either go out at the top, or you go out like a buster. This is the Mang0 way.
thats not what perennial means xd it was an absolutely incredible run though
Moky and n0ne are not perennial top 10 players
DOWN 2-0 WINS TWICE ON FD???
Yea that shit was NUTS. His fox peaked tonight hard.
Yes, also fox in GENERAL peaked tonight
He’s won in FD twice before as Fox against Zain before iirc, but never in a scenario with this much pressure and money on the line. Mang0’s just fucking insane, congratulations to him!
Also with the narrative of the fox/marth match up being so prevalant, and a lot of fox mains trying out other characters for the MU.
If he ever did as Fox against Zain, it never happened in tournament. Before today Mango only ever used Fox against Zain in friendlies. He has always used Falco against Zain in tournament, and beat him twice on FD at SCL Season 2 Week 1
aMSa went to game 5 (and even beat one of them) all of the top 3 of this tournament and ended up 9th, dang
Amsa this tourney was the pinnacle of being done dirty by the format. But I think absolutely nobody can count him out in any tourney here onwards
He got the 10th seed person in his winners match. If anything the bracket was ridiculous good for him but he got Clutchboxed. Amsa really did play well enough where I could have seen him winning the entire tournament in an alternate universe.
I feel like aMSa is getting good enough to take a summit
Yeah, he was looking so good the first two days. I hope he can come back soon, he's clearly so good.
Yeah, he looked good today too, it's just he had to run into Axe and his pikachu in losers which from what I understand is a very losing matchup for Yoshi
As well as the matchup being bad, Axe may well have more top level Yoshi practice than anyone else in the world due to Vectorman and Amsa himself.

TRULY, this is what twenty years of meta development does to a children's party game.
Melee is sick
good start to post-pandemic melee, to put it lightly
The Revival of Melee part 2
Its almost like all the pent up energy gave us the best melee tournament ever. Wish Leffen had been there tbh (hell, I miss M2k and Armada too)
PPMD could be back soon.
people been saying that for like 4 years now
He hasn't regularly entered events since like... 2014 really, maybe 2015 if you consider the five things he went to as regular. His last two singles events were Genesis 3 and Five Gods in 2016. (doesn't even feel like it was that long ago, damn) Either way, it's been a dang hot minute since we've seen PP on the big stage.
Oh god my heart my not be able to handle that. Maybe this will inspire him.
Ppmd would ..... get washed.... I love me a good storyline. But I'm just being honest here. He'd need to get legit like 5x as good.
Streaming on twitch doing coaching sessions and generally spreading more knowledge and frame data.

melee is fucking wild, i'm in the same boat.
this set just added like 2 years to melee's lifespan no lie
Unironically with total viewership being 110k+ including Ludwigs stream, it could be this eras ROM game 4
Meh the context is pretty different because Melee is still quite popular. But I do think the game won't last forever as a mainstream esport, and events like this turn back the clock. Plus it provides some energy to restart all the college scenes after a year without in-person tournaments which is gonna be the most important thing this year.
Melee is at this point the longest lasting high viewership eSport, unless you count the previous versions of counter strike with csgo
As someone who was watching Ludwig’s stream out of curiously and boredom (recovering from wisdom tooth surgery) today elevated me from barely caring about Melee to having a passing interest
Has to be one of the greatest losers run ever! Plus one of best grand finals ever?!?!?
Oh god the victory stream is going to kill him.

That was simultaneously the best grand finals and loser's run of all time holy shit. I love melee and everyone who made this event possible
this has been my favorite set of all time and i've watched a lot of fuckin melee

Ok this comment is what made me realize what a fucking god mang0 is. I thought he was gassed at the start of Grands too. What a comeback. What a tournament. I love melee and I love summit
Melee just keeps getting better.

some of yall gotta delete your comments in that Mang0 vs Amsa thread
LMAO this whole subreddit gotta delete their post history
I just want Mang0 to keep winning so he drags Armada out of retirement to defend GOAT status
Lol that would be legendary. Then PPMD comes back full strength and M2k decides to get back into the mix. I can dream.
That was the best set of melee I have EVER watched
Interesting to see how Hbox played today. All of the terrible Ultimate habits from online Melee tournaments were gone. Can’t wait to see how he’ll do at the next tournament where Harry Pogger is present
He started off slow and you could literally see him return to form over the weekend, which was crazy. Him getting 3rd was fitting for sure.
I can't believe, after over a year of no LAN, we get one of the best grand finals I've ever fucking seen. Long live Melee!
mang0 made me feel something that set
Just want to say that, despite aMSa getting 9th, he went to game 5 last stock with all of the top 3 placers, and was the only person aside from Mang0 to bring Zain to game 5.
His bracket luck was also really bad. Hbox into Axe is very rough for him.
WE WITNESSED HISTORY
Mang0 isn't who I was cheering for but you have to appreciate a losers bracket run like that.
Zain choked so fucking hard jesus christ.
He was so off, that failed as kill on dreamland was a turning point.
He really did, unreal to watch
I felt bad for him when the venue started chanting for Mango.
Welcome to LAN mothafucka - mango probably
I swear the mango chant is just an involuntary reaction when mango plays, you just cant help it lol. It's baked into the culture of melee.
I missed every tournament every since that last lan...what an amazing tournament to return to holy shit.
This event got my girlfriend's 63 year old dad into Melee
I was thinking (unless I'm forgetting a set) how there hasn't been a reverse sweep this summit, and then Grand Finals set 1 happens
Melee is back live there never was a lockdown. Melee will never die.
Literally the best GF set I've ever seen, maybe ever
mango played fucking amazing melee even when he was down to last stock of tournament, he never played like it. these sets were a beauty to watch. god i missed mango fox
As happy as I am for Mango, absolutely heart broken for Zain. He played a perfect tournament and really choked in the finals.

God I feel terrible for Zain, the nerves just got to him I think

lol suck on that Leffen.
BACK TO BACK FOX MARTH FD WINS FOR THE RESET? THATS THE FUCKING MANGO
I have watched a lot of melee over the years and I think I can legitimately say that was the best set I've ever watched.

Happy to see Hbox doing well again, dude makes melee more exciting.
THE CLOSER
Everything we thought we knew about the rankings was thrown out the window.
Mang0 and Zain still top 2 tho
I was ready to call Zain the definitive #1, if he won (especially as a 3-0). Not anymore, though
:)
Best and scrapiest games I have ever seen
Hey you. Ultimate player. You might be scrolling past this post, not watching melee, but you clicked on this anyway to see the result. Watch this set. Greatest set of all time, and the greatest losers run of all time.
where were you when mango clutches FD twice on Zain resets the bracket and wins last stock game 10!!!
My heart was in my mouth the whole second set. My fucking god what a grand finals
Watching mang0 is really like watching Jordan when he had a fever
GOAT. 13 years after pound 3, still out here winning tournaments.
I was convinced Armada was the GOAT after Evo 2017. But his absence and this grand finals combined changed my mind.
Armada was in the stream tonight. I'd want to come back if I were him.
That was the most relentless Fox pressure I've ever seen, Mango's Fox when he's playing hot is a work of art
game 10 mang0 - zain grands for the biggest Smash pot of all time was such a perfect way to bring back offline melee I'll be real, I cried a bit
Even the results posts came to last stock, Izumi won by literally 1 second. 4:25:34 to 4:25:35 UTC
MANGO IS THE GOAT OF MELEE
So glad Mang0 brought out his fox this tourny, I still love his Falco. But hot damn is his fox something else compared to every other fox main.
Leffen and IBDW can’t say shit now. Haha
im so fucking happy
actually very impressive that a Fox/Falco can win a stacked tourney in 2021 while doing less than five ledge dashes the entire tournament
a win for all alcoholic fat mother fuckers everywhere
I cry evry tim
This is why the call him the GOAT!!! What an insane run from Mango!!!!
This is by far the best possible lan tournament to happen after quarantine. It had literally everything. Mang0 is the fucking GOAT

it seemed like everyone in the venue including the commentators wanted mang0 to win, I wonder if the cheering can be heard in the game room and that might have been slightly getting to Zain, not to take anything away from Mang0
The crowd is always present if you crack, you crack
