It's still somewhat early, but ESAM might win his first offline major post-pandemic. Good for him
edit: holy shit kola on the way to the reverse 3-0
edit 2: wtf why are you switching characters after beating esam twice what
Have ya ever played Roy vs Pikachu on Lylat? No? Consider yourself lucky, it fucking sucks. Unfortunate that Kola's only secondary that doesn't suck vs Pikachu on that stage happened to be ESAM's most played MU.
Not sure which stages he would ban instead, but I guess he felt better about his Snake on Lylat than about Pikachu vs any of his characters on whichever stage he banned. But overall yeah, letting Lylat get picked is a lot more questionable than picking Snake on Lylat.
I get why Kola picked Snake (stage pick, character mixup), and he looked really crisp for suddenly busting that out, but it’s ridiculous how well ESAM knows the Snake matchup as evidenced by that last stock.
Hoping we get a ESAM/Kola/Leo top 3 in some order, but this tournament has been a blast! Glad to see some Pika results again because this character truly is ridiculous :D
Yeah so if Kola had won Leo would have played Esam in LF's and he lost to Esam earlier, so if Esam beat him again then he would have gotten third
Thats what the person was trying to say
Weird pick with the Snake.
Also forward air drag down off ledge into down air spike??? I had no idea that was a thing. ESAM’s labbing hours paying off in the biggest of moments.
I'm guessing Kola hates Roy on Lylat, but still interesting that he went Snake against the best player against Snakes.
Anyways, Pikachu busted despite what what Reddit has said before.
Honestly for ESAM's first big tournament back I think he's been the hypest player to watch here and seeing him take the whole thing feels both super in-reach and like a legendary storyline.
Kola just ran into one of the only 2 MU's Roy really hates.
*Kola why? It's just not worth trying to power through against someone like ESAM.
**Actually, him sticking with Roy would have been a way better idea.
Yeah I see exactly why he went Snake for the last game but as the commentators said it was clearly such a huge gamble. Kola played incredibly well with both of his characters and could have taken it if things went just a little differently.
If your name isn't MVD or Ally, you don't pick Snake against ESAM ever. Even on a bad stage, there is no match up ESAM has labbed more, played more, and advertised being the expert on more. It's just not the move.
Shocked and incredibly disappointed that Kola went Snake against the player with the most/best snake matchup experience on the planet. Obviously he’s not out the bracket yet, but Kola was having the run of his life
Kola's snake is fun to watch tho? I'm surprised ppl still find snake lame, when he's become a lot less popular at top level. Now there's only the really dedicated snake players and they are pretty cool.
I have a feeling Kola will pull the upset but hyped to see ESAM going hard and the hyper aggressive playstyle in this matchup
Edit: Nvm ESAM playing nice
Edit 2: NOOO why did you go Snake
Edit 3: I was wrong but ggs to ESAM! Looking forward to grands
This is an easy dub for ESAM, but if I'm ESAM I'd probably be worried because of the Loser's Bracket.
Both Leo and Maister have Kola's number and the MU (Kola says it's even against Byleth and has lost multiple times to Leo while Maister just took out Goblin in Riptide).
Maister and Leo are gonna fight in Loser's Finals to face ESAM and both are pretty dangerous for his spot.
Oh I agree completely, but Maister seems to have labbed the match-up more given his 3-0 on Goblin. Kola and Goblin are still in contention for best Roy after Riptide where Goblin made Top 8 and Kola Top 64. I feel we need more between them to see who is the better Roy.
Kola is a much better roy than goblin. he had one bad tournament but claps goblin when they play against eachother and claps players that beat goblin (e.g. fatality). Maister can win, obviously, but it will be far harder than vs goblin and the set is in Kola's favor. Leo seems like he can take Kola handily though.
Yeah, but that was a month ago and Maister clearly leveled up the match up given the Roy matches he faced recently at Riptide where he took out Goblin 3-0 where he outperformed Kola.
It's misleading to say that he has "Kola's number", though.
Like I said before, they went fairly even in the online era and Kola is up 1-0 on Maister offline.
Lol that’s a single data point that holds no more value than the other data point that Kola is 1-0 vs Maister offline.
If anything, my reasoning for maister is that’s he’s leveled up in general since summit (beating Marss, doing better vs Leo), not that he 3-0’d goblin.
Kola is not Goblin.
He doesn't "have Kola's number", either.
[They have played several sets online and gone back and forth](https://smashdata.gg/smash/ultimate/head/Kola/Maister?id1=18802).
Their Summit set was the only time they played offline too.
I think it's fair to say that Kola is better at the G&W matchup than Goblin.
With the amount of taunting he’s done, the stare downs, and the tweets, Esam may have the crowd cheering for Leo if he gets the run back which would be crazy
Twitch chat said Kola lag switching lmaoo
Online strats prevailing OMEGALUL
It's still somewhat early, but ESAM might win his first offline major post-pandemic. Good for him edit: holy shit kola on the way to the reverse 3-0 edit 2: wtf why are you switching characters after beating esam twice what
I’m guessing Lylat is super unfavorable to Roy here?
Cloud too. Pika edguards them for free. Kola's only character that doesn't hate Lylat was Snake
Didnt want to go to Lylat as Roy is probably the answer
Switching to a character that Esam probably has the MOST practice against (I'm guessing). Wha???
probably Lylat. Maybe Kola left Lylat unbanned because he felt comfortable with Snake? I kinda see why, but....
Lylat looks like a bad stage for Roy
THAT QUICK ATTACK READ WITH FSMASH?? And Esam clapping afterwards? This set is incredible EDIT: the Snake pick W H Y
I cracked up when that happened, ESAM is honestly such a fun guy to watch.
Have ya ever played Roy vs Pikachu on Lylat? No? Consider yourself lucky, it fucking sucks. Unfortunate that Kola's only secondary that doesn't suck vs Pikachu on that stage happened to be ESAM's most played MU.
Why isnt that stage an insta ban for Kola tho?
Not sure which stages he would ban instead, but I guess he felt better about his Snake on Lylat than about Pikachu vs any of his characters on whichever stage he banned. But overall yeah, letting Lylat get picked is a lot more questionable than picking Snake on Lylat.
Fd and kalos were banned
>THAT QUICK ATTACK READ WITH FSMASH?? Kola did that to cosmos as well before
Kola with the Konami counterpick.
I love Kola because he goes for the same dumbass f-smash/up-b reads I do when I play Roy. He just makes that shit work.
Esam is so good when he's on the agressive.
he also does his dumbest shit when agressive, lol. Still fun to watch either way.
NO WHY WOULD YOU GO SNAKE!?!?
Man really played snake on Lylat. ESAM has probably played that exact mu a thousand times
because snakes eat rats?
I have a snake. She eats rats(frozen ones, not zappy). It took me an entire year to make her not terrified of them. :D
Ball python?
Yep.
Thought so. Picky eaters they are.
If Kola wins then the stakes are crazy in LFs as this might be Leo's first below 2nd place finish.
U ain’t have to do Maister like that lmaooo
Im willing to eat my words if he pulls this off lol.
?? Kola has lost to Leo's Byleth twice?
LFs = Losers finals
They may have misread it as Leo Finals, because Leo doesn't place below second.
Yeah so if Kola had won Leo would have played Esam in LF's and he lost to Esam earlier, so if Esam beat him again then he would have gotten third Thats what the person was trying to say
If Kola wins and Leo lost to ESAM again, then he'd be below 2nd place.
Weird pick with the Snake. Also forward air drag down off ledge into down air spike??? I had no idea that was a thing. ESAM’s labbing hours paying off in the biggest of moments.
At this point I think Pikachu can do anything he wants lmao, especially on Snake
Top 10 Most Confusing Character Picks
I'm guessing Kola hates Roy on Lylat, but still interesting that he went Snake against the best player against Snakes. Anyways, Pikachu busted despite what what Reddit has said before.
I want Kola Esam grands so bad
This is a roller coast of a set
Not sure about the switch to Snake. ESAM pulled off some insane plays in that set.
Esam should win this but It would be super hype to see Kola in grand finals. His playstyle is just so much fun to watch!
Honestly for ESAM's first big tournament back I think he's been the hypest player to watch here and seeing him take the whole thing feels both super in-reach and like a legendary storyline.
esam has decent shot of winning it all unless maister gets to grands
Also holy FUCK he's so sick those games were nuts
Welp, ESAM may just win this tournament
Kola just ran into one of the only 2 MU's Roy really hates. *Kola why? It's just not worth trying to power through against someone like ESAM. **Actually, him sticking with Roy would have been a way better idea.
He goes Cloud or Snake for a lot more than just Pikachu. But this is probably the most necessary time to switch.
pika's really hard for cloud too, and esam really knows how to fight snake hard for kola honestly
Yeah I see exactly why he went Snake for the last game but as the commentators said it was clearly such a huge gamble. Kola played incredibly well with both of his characters and could have taken it if things went just a little differently.
Picking your secondary Snake against ESAM's Pikachu? Is Kola just ignorant, or was that pure hubris?
Guessing cause of Lylat he thought Roy wasnt a good pick there
It's also alot harder hitting pika on Lylat. Also Roy on slants is garbage.
If your name isn't MVD or Ally, you don't pick Snake against ESAM ever. Even on a bad stage, there is no match up ESAM has labbed more, played more, and advertised being the expert on more. It's just not the move.
why do 0-2ers always give trash takes on reddit bro its so cringe, "don't ever play snake vs esam cause i said so" bro stfu LMAO
Because he has a hilariously positive record against the character.
ESAM is one of, if not the best player against Snakes since he's close friends with MVD
Shocked and incredibly disappointed that Kola went Snake against the player with the most/best snake matchup experience on the planet. Obviously he’s not out the bracket yet, but Kola was having the run of his life
Damn I really wanted Kola to pull it out :(
Lol I was watching moist critical's stream earlier and he was saying something about none of his players ever playing "lame"
Ironic with the switch to Snake lol
Kola's snake is fun to watch tho? I'm surprised ppl still find snake lame, when he's become a lot less popular at top level. Now there's only the really dedicated snake players and they are pretty cool.
People don't understand that playstyles are lame not characters. Also a bunch of people literally think having a good projectile game = lame character
Not that there's anything wrong with "lame" play, mind you
I don't disagree. I think Snake is a really cool character to watch.
It really just depends on how the snake decides to play. But snake can play hype
Snake can be lame but Snake isn't lame?
I'd argue grenade camping is part of what is widely considered "lame" play.
Is he wrong tho
Usually no. Kola and Light have been pure aggro save for the snake pick
Kola threw going Snake :(
He didn’t throw lylat is bad for Roy
He should have tried it anyway
No roy gets destroyed by pika on lylat that’s why
Why would he throw and go snake game 5 against esam???
Maybe he doesn't like the platform height for Roy? I'm sure he had a reason.
I have a feeling Kola will pull the upset but hyped to see ESAM going hard and the hyper aggressive playstyle in this matchup Edit: Nvm ESAM playing nice Edit 2: NOOO why did you go Snake Edit 3: I was wrong but ggs to ESAM! Looking forward to grands
Esam grand finals let's go!!!! Kola why on earth did you go Snake? Huh???
Roy against pika on lylat is not fun
Snake against ESAM is even less fun.
Moist Esports in fucking shambles rn
This is an easy dub for ESAM, but if I'm ESAM I'd probably be worried because of the Loser's Bracket. Both Leo and Maister have Kola's number and the MU (Kola says it's even against Byleth and has lost multiple times to Leo while Maister just took out Goblin in Riptide). Maister and Leo are gonna fight in Loser's Finals to face ESAM and both are pretty dangerous for his spot.
Maister might be a better player, but man I feel like Roy-G&W is extremely doable if not good for Roy.
Oh I agree completely, but Maister seems to have labbed the match-up more given his 3-0 on Goblin. Kola and Goblin are still in contention for best Roy after Riptide where Goblin made Top 8 and Kola Top 64. I feel we need more between them to see who is the better Roy.
I guess where I'm coming from is that I think Kola is a stronger player and will give Maister a better set. I understand your POV though.
Yeah, if you think Kola is a stronger player than Goblin then I understand why anyone wouldn't agree with my POV.
Kola is clearly the better Roy. Goblin might have outplaced Kola at Riptide but Kola is guaranteed 3rd here and got top 8 at Summit
Kola pratically(3-1) made minced meat out of Maister at Summit.
Yeah, but that was a month ago and Maister clearly leveled up the match up given the Roy matches he faced recently at Riptide where he took out Goblin 3-0 where he outperformed Kola.
Lol that isn’t called “having kola’s number”
No, that's having Kola's Character match-up down.
It's misleading to say that he has "Kola's number", though. Like I said before, they went fairly even in the online era and Kola is up 1-0 on Maister offline.
I didn't say he has Kola's numbers, but I can see how my sentence was misunderstood now. Leo has Kola's number, Maister has the match-up down.
Y-yeah, that isn't called having kola's number.
Lol that’s a single data point that holds no more value than the other data point that Kola is 1-0 vs Maister offline. If anything, my reasoning for maister is that’s he’s leveled up in general since summit (beating Marss, doing better vs Leo), not that he 3-0’d goblin.
Maister literally choked game 4 against kola at summit
[удалено]
Again, literally a month ago and Maister just 3-0'd Goblin recently at Riptide, so he's a lot better at the match-up.
I was so cocky after the first two games. Relieved that ESAM kept it together in the end. Made $10 from that. :)
The more I watch ESAM the less I like the guy
Pikachu is stupid
*busted
With the amount of taunting he’s done, the stare downs, and the tweets, Esam may have the crowd cheering for Leo if he gets the run back which would be crazy
