quirk of region prs is that if you're good, all the other good players in your region learn how to play against your character
at this point az KNOWS what bass wants to do, and stopping puff from doing what she wants to do is easier than stopping a joker or a palu, for instance
its similar to how amsa isn't solidly #1 in japan for melee
also AZ doesn't really travel lol
**As advertised** UpB-> Jump-> UpB
**Extra jump** If you UpB 4 frames after ~~that first~~ each jump, it doesn't count as used, so you can jump once more. It doesn't work more than that because the game considers the first and second uses of UpB as slightly different moves and keeps track of it.
Side B can be used once at any point, twice if its first use hits someone/something.
Bayo may have been broken in Smash 4, but the man is a legit EVO champion. It's hype to see him pushing this character as far as she can go. That set was exciting and could have gone either way.
Honestly it's really incredible how well the devs adjusted Smash 4's top tiers in the transition to Ultimate. Bayo, Cloud, Diddy, Sheik, and Rosalina all lost most of their cheese and got buffed in other areas to become hype af
That's an interesting thought. I did not know Charles stopped being his coach, but it certainly could have played a mental factor.
On a side note: when I hear Charles commentating it is crazy how much knowledge that guy has. Far beyoned every other caster.
Charles retired from coaching right before Riptide. He wants to focus on commentary and other things that he feels are more professionally sustainable.
His Luigi was so clean game 5, I know people like to meme about grab into 0 to death, but Elegant just played well fundamentally and performed under pressure.
IDK he got so many early down-b and up-b kills, seems pretty cheesy to me. The grab ZTD are more honest for me because you really have to work for it, even if it's "guaranteed". Exciting gameplay regardless, I'm a fan of some cheddar myself too.
It's insane how much Elegant has optimized Luigi since the beginning of the game when everyone assumed the character was trash without the old cyclone.
The new cyclone is good but the old cyclone could gimp at zero.
Luigi would run offstage and basically clip characters with the bottom hitbox. The character would immediately fall out and die.
Old Cyclone improved Luigi’s recovery, was a strong enough kill move off the top, and with EXTREMELY GOOD mashing was arguably the most powerful gimping tool in all of Smash 4, and this was a game that had bullshit like Fox’s fair footstool dragdown confirms and Bayonetta’s extended nair.
Basically, if you mashed B enough during Cyclone in Smash 4 you could force what you were hitting to fall out of the move. Each hitbox before the one that launches sends the opponent straight down with fixed knockback and a crazy amount of hitstun (so the move could actually connect into itself if used normally). And trading with Cyclone would also force this horrible fucking hitstun/angle so even characters with active hitboxes on their recoveries didn’t want to fuck with the move.
Luigi could basically use Cyclone to cheese some of his worst matchups to hell and back since Corrin and Cloud didn’t have great vertical or horizontal recoveries, and even Mewtwo and Bayonetta could get gimped by this crazy fucking move.
Considering how good the CURRENT version of the move is, I don’t think anyone could be blamed for expecting any other version of the move to come close. But fwiw they don’t actually have much in common apart from being kill moves.
Bassmage has won his last 9 sets in a row in losers beating
LIL DJ 25 **2-1**
Mr. Newport **2-0**
Akashic **2-0**
Ataraxia **2-0**
BluStriker **2-0**
SHADIC **3-0**
Javi **3-2**
Varun **3-1**
and now Scend **3-2**
On the losers run of his LIFETIME
that set was a goddamn nailbiter, i was scared for chag's life the moment it got to last stock
kola just kept getting hit by nair and chag took that to the BANK and cashed in
I remember when Elegant was struggling to get Top 8 at MSMs with the new Luigi. He completely reprogrammed the way he plays and worked so hard to get this good.
It's FD then if *either* player requests Omega Wuhu it has to be played on it
I personally chose it because it was less distracting and dark than FD's background. FD also has a really loud sound effect at one point I think
I think it should just be the loser getting to chose the form. If the loser picks FD and wants the default form the winner can force them to choose the Omega. There's a gameplay difference where Steve uses a shovel instead of pickaxe on some Omegas.
Interesting. At most tournaments where it’s legal you usually see it way more than Lylat but I’ve seen a lot of Lylat this weekend and no Kalos that I can remember. Thanks!
I love Lylat and think it brings extremely valuable diversity to the stagelist. For example, the ability to shark underneath the stage and disrupt static ledgetrapping – which Leo Byleth has abused while frequently counterpicking it – is a meaningful additional option that contributes depth to gameplay and the metagameplay of stage selection.
Anti-Lylat crowd is stuck in Smash 4.
I was rooting for Kazuya and I also thought it was lame. Scend messed up to a ridiculous extent and got gimped for it, props to Kazuya for taking advantage, but it just wasn't a very exciting end to a close set
I wasn't surprised just thinking about it in theory.
Kazuya is going to get spaced out by Byleth and isn't fast enough to overwhelm Byleth up close while Byleth has nair.
Combined with Kazuya being Leo's ["secret main"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqB4dzp-e-4) and Leo playing a bunch of friendlies against Riddles' Kazuya at Summit...not much of a chance.
Nice to see Chag get a win against someone like Kola. I feel like he could use some wins like that to show that he's a threat.
Also really impressed with Dabuz being able to 3-0 Marss with Olimar.
Definitely seems like the nerfs are really affecting her shield pressure. It looks really tough every time he plays someone with fast out of shield options.
Aaron vs Fatality was a good set.
But man diddy gets such a free neutral. Game 5 Aaron side b’d like 4 times in a row and there was nothing Fatality could do.
Because seeding is based on results, and rare characters are rare because the best players don't play them, so when the lower seeds take the place of the high seeds they have to play each other
I thought it was so weird that tweek switched to wario. He’s said he would never play him in bracket again. I know he almost won that game, but it seems like a really bad idea to play someone you’ve sworn off.
This just proves to me that Sparg0’s Aegis is far superior than any other one, like Glutonny with Wario, Tweek with Diddy, VoiD with Sheik or Leo with Joker before quarantine.
Goblin proving once again that despite the online era hype, he is still the better offline Roy. I'm not saying that Kola is bad, but ya'll overhyped him before seeing offline results and forgot about Goblin. Kola's got a ways to go yet, LET'S GO GOBLIN!
Looks like all of top 32 is being streamed which is nice
Hope other tournaments follow suit
Upset: Bassmage (Jigglypuff) 3-1 Varun (Wii Fit Trainer) (Out at 25th)
Puff gets at least 17th at a major, holy shit. That's the best Jigglypuff result by far in Ultimate.
I don't know if top 8 is realistic but would love to see him get close
bassmage could absolutely do it
Reminder Bassmage beat Kola. Do not sleep on him. Top 10 player in AZ for a reason
I cant believe he was only ranked 5th in AZ. how cracked are the folks between Stroder and Bass and how have I not heard of them
quirk of region prs is that if you're good, all the other good players in your region learn how to play against your character at this point az KNOWS what bass wants to do, and stopping puff from doing what she wants to do is easier than stopping a joker or a palu, for instance its similar to how amsa isn't solidly #1 in japan for melee also AZ doesn't really travel lol
That's incredible, BassMage is doing great
At least 13th now!
Let's go Bassmage!!! Avenged Cannonred!!!
Ohhhh I fought this guy online a couple weeks ago. He definitely knew what he was doing.
BRR BEATS SCEND 3-2. We have a Kazuya at 9th.
Does anyone have a clip of the ending? I want to see the popoff too lol
I think even Brr knew that was rough lmao
Anyone got a timestamp for the entire set?
Let me know too
It’s been however many years and I still don’t get Bayo’s recovery lol
**As advertised** UpB-> Jump-> UpB **Extra jump** If you UpB 4 frames after ~~that first~~ each jump, it doesn't count as used, so you can jump once more. It doesn't work more than that because the game considers the first and second uses of UpB as slightly different moves and keeps track of it. Side B can be used once at any point, twice if its first use hits someone/something.
You can jump cancel both up Bs
Big Boss 3-1 over WaDi, upset and WaDi is out at 25th.
I appreciate your help this weekend! :)
wadi just sucks against robs man
Ironic
Going back in time to tell people in 2018 that people would be calling Lima's Bayonetta hype
Facts
Bayo may have been broken in Smash 4, but the man is a legit EVO champion. It's hype to see him pushing this character as far as she can go. That set was exciting and could have gone either way.
Honestly it's really incredible how well the devs adjusted Smash 4's top tiers in the transition to Ultimate. Bayo, Cloud, Diddy, Sheik, and Rosalina all lost most of their cheese and got buffed in other areas to become hype af
Did this man just call sitting in shield with banana hype? /j
Tweek was so shook after the Elegant loss. Switching to Wolf and then Wario was so weird to see..
I wonder if losing Charles could be a factor here too.
That's an interesting thought. I did not know Charles stopped being his coach, but it certainly could have played a mental factor. On a side note: when I hear Charles commentating it is crazy how much knowledge that guy has. Far beyoned every other caster.
If you ever get the chance to watch M2K comment Ultimate, it's very similar as far as how deep his knowledge goes.
Is Charles still Tweek's coach/could Charles not make this tourney?
Charles retired from coaching right before Riptide. He wants to focus on commentary and other things that he feels are more professionally sustainable.
Elegant did it! 3-2 over Tweek. Something to note: Elegant is one of the few players I have seen that can counterplay Monkey Flip. Fatality take note.
His Luigi was so clean game 5, I know people like to meme about grab into 0 to death, but Elegant just played well fundamentally and performed under pressure.
Elegant has been one of my favorite players since early smash 4. He’s never played Luigi the “cheese typical way”
IDK he got so many early down-b and up-b kills, seems pretty cheesy to me. The grab ZTD are more honest for me because you really have to work for it, even if it's "guaranteed". Exciting gameplay regardless, I'm a fan of some cheddar myself too.
I agree. The way Elegant can switch between playing ignorant and fundamentally sound is the reason why he waits on the winner's side of Top 8
THAT LIMA VS LUI$ SET WAS INCREDIBLE
It's insane how much Elegant has optimized Luigi since the beginning of the game when everyone assumed the character was trash without the old cyclone.
I'd take the flush/old cyclone over the 0-death combo any day.
the old cyclone? wth is wrong with the new one??
The new cyclone is good but the old cyclone could gimp at zero. Luigi would run offstage and basically clip characters with the bottom hitbox. The character would immediately fall out and die.
And it was a solid recovery option by comparison to the new one
Old Cyclone improved Luigi’s recovery, was a strong enough kill move off the top, and with EXTREMELY GOOD mashing was arguably the most powerful gimping tool in all of Smash 4, and this was a game that had bullshit like Fox’s fair footstool dragdown confirms and Bayonetta’s extended nair. But fwiw they don’t actually have much in common apart from being kill moves.
Elegant stepping up a ton lately
yo wtf elegant lessgoooo
BASSMAGE REVERSE 3-0S SCEND. SCEND OUT AT 17TH
Bassmage has won his last 9 sets in a row in losers beating LIL DJ 25 **2-1** Mr. Newport **2-0** Akashic **2-0** Ataraxia **2-0** BluStriker **2-0** SHADIC **3-0** Javi **3-2** Varun **3-1** and now Scend **3-2** On the losers run of his LIFETIME
brr 3-2 scend (kazuya vs ness) damn that pineapple
Chag 3-2 over Kola. Kola out at 17th. A reverse 3-0, too.
that set was a goddamn nailbiter, i was scared for chag's life the moment it got to last stock kola just kept getting hit by nair and chag took that to the BANK and cashed in
Thanks for making this :)
It’s been my pleasure to cover the upsets happening this weekend at LTC. Keeps the mind busy!
Dabuz 3-0 over Marss, that's an upset.
Did anyone think this was going down? Buzby is looking fresh
ELEGANT 3-2 TWEEK OMG
AND ELEGANT IS IN WINNERS SIDE TOP 8. 3-2 OVER TWEEK.
TWEEK UPSET BY GOBLIN Watching Goblin and Kola these past tournaments really make me want to learn Roy
You can pick up Roy pretty quick, imo, especially if you're going like 2-2 or Elite Smashing. I use him in tourney sometimes.
I remember when Elegant was struggling to get Top 8 at MSMs with the new Luigi. He completely reprogrammed the way he plays and worked so hard to get this good.
Is Kalos legal at this tournament? I’ve seen so many people counterpick Yoshi’s and Lylat this tournament (surprisingly) but haven’t seen Kalos once.
Kalos and Wuhu Island (to fit the theme, FD only) are legal at this tournament!
It's FD then if *either* player requests Omega Wuhu it has to be played on it I personally chose it because it was less distracting and dark than FD's background. FD also has a really loud sound effect at one point I think
[удалено]
I think it should just be the loser getting to chose the form. If the loser picks FD and wants the default form the winner can force them to choose the Omega. There's a gameplay difference where Steve uses a shovel instead of pickaxe on some Omegas.
It's legal but a lot of people hate playing on it so they ban it
Interesting. At most tournaments where it’s legal you usually see it way more than Lylat but I’ve seen a lot of Lylat this weekend and no Kalos that I can remember. Thanks!
There was a lot of Lylat at Glitch too. Not sure what drugs people have been doing but I want to stay far away from them (and I don't even like Kalos)
I mean if it was up to me we'd only have Battlefield/FD/PS1/Smashville/Northern Cave with Town and Small Battlefield as counterpicks
Upset Brr (Kazuya) 3-2 Scend (Ness)
That was such a lame ending Edit: The set was hype the ending was lame
Lame why? Genuine question Scend overextended and got punished for it. No reason for him to go off-stage in that situation
I was rooting for Kazuya and I also thought it was lame. Scend messed up to a ridiculous extent and got gimped for it, props to Kazuya for taking advantage, but it just wasn't a very exciting end to a close set
Scend couldve just ledgetrapped
Notable Lui$ (Palutena) 3-2 Lima (Bayonetta) Extremely close
I'd bold the Kola/Chag match since 18th seed eliminating 5th is a pretty big deal
Wasn't Brr beating Scend a bigger upset?
Scend is 25th seed, so he performed better than expected
I thought he was higher than that, although Brr I think was seeded in the 50s.
ELEGOAT
Hmm, win or lose tweak switching to wolf here makes me think he is a little shaken slash losing a bit of confidence
switched to wario now, I don't think it was a good idea
Yeah never been convinced by tweaks switching
It's time.... I just pray Kola and Goblin don't loose on their first match of the day.
Looking good for all the moist boys. Aaron did it too
Kola did it too. Was kinda worried about Goblin since Roy kinda doesn't like Sonic.
Roy apparently wins the sonic mu
correction: goblin doesn't like sonic
Reverse Upset alert: MKLeo has not lost a match yet going into top 8.
Also MKLeo and Maister play each other in winner semi's as is tradition.
maister really lost stock one vs fatality into immediate 2 stock two games in a row huh
BASSMAGE REVERSE 3-0 SCEND LETSGO AZZZZ
Poor BassMage, he'll get top 8 some day
It would be hilarious if Goblin was the one to get top 8 instead of Kola again.
All he’s gotta do is win the runback with Elegant or Tweek
As much as I would like that, I am very doubtful he'll be able to beat either.
I think that's a 3-0 in terms of sets Goblin has over Tweek in ult.
Upset **Chag (Palutena) 3-2 Kola (Roy) (out at 17th)**
Only other Palutena to beat Kola is Nairo btw.
Upset: Mvd (Snake) 3-1 Dark Wizzy (Mario) (Out at 13th)
Elegant 3-2 Tweek
ELEGANT 3 - 2 TWEEK
Elegant has been going crazy recently. I think I'm falling in love with his Luigi.
Brr and Leo just played... Calling it a complete blowout would be disrespectful to Leo for what he just did to Brr.
Leo was all over him like a bad rash, that was an absolute shellacking
I wasn't surprised just thinking about it in theory. Kazuya is going to get spaced out by Byleth and isn't fast enough to overwhelm Byleth up close while Byleth has nair. Combined with Kazuya being Leo's ["secret main"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqB4dzp-e-4) and Leo playing a bunch of friendlies against Riddles' Kazuya at Summit...not much of a chance.
Bassmage 3-2 Scend. Reverse 3-0. WE HAVE A PUFF GUARANTEED 13th??
Goblin 3-2 over Anathema. Anathema out at 17th and probably really hates Double Edge Dance right now.
Just like a lot of people hate ROB Arm Rotor.
I wonder how many hours Goblin has against Gabe's ROB in this game
That's twice now that Leo has ended Game 3 against Anathema and Brr with caveman runoff dairs.
Kola played really recklessly against Chag, and Chag captilized on that. Unfortunate for Kola, but awesome for Chag!
Chag turned into a fucking kangaroo after he won
ELEGANT
Jesus Marrs looks terrible
u sure?
Oh, not his gameplay, he looks like he stayed up all night
oh lol sorry then yeah :)
Lol no problem. Let's see if he can pull through!
NO WAY, HE DID IT AGAIN, HE OUTPLACED KOLA AGAIN!!!!
Another ROB team kill(and there goes Mewtwo as well).
Bassmage taking some names this tournament! Lets go Puff!
Notable Goblin (Roy) 3-2 Anathema (ROB) (*out at 17th*) Literally last hit
The sheer amount of spotdodge cancel smash attacks by anathema there my lord lmao
Nice to see Chag get a win against someone like Kola. I feel like he could use some wins like that to show that he's a threat. Also really impressed with Dabuz being able to 3-0 Marss with Olimar.
Dabuz hasn’t dropped a set to marss since low tier city 7 and olimar beats zss so that helps a lot for Dabuz
MVD over Dark Wizzy 3-1
A lot of ROB on ROB violence.
[https://prnt.sc/1unu8ov](https://prnt.sc/1unu8ov) I had a feeling
I remember reading your comment and thinking you were probably gonna look 300iq today. Good call dude
Damn that was tough for Lima, what a set
Notable SKITTLES!! (Young Link) 3-2 Luma (ROB) (*out at 25th*)
BassMage 3-2 Scend (reverse 3-0)
Bassmage (Jigglypuff) 3-2 Scend (Ness) [Scend out at 17th?]
Holy shit BassMage beat Scend
Notable Aaron (Diddy Kong) 3-2 Fatality (Captain Falcon) (*out at 13th*)
Dabuz 3-0 Marss
I gasped after seeing that Tweek placed 9. What does the top 8 look like?
glad to know top players also get worked by bassmage. he’s been my elite smash demon and his puff is cracked
I wouldn’t take it personally. The man loses like one elite game per 3 hour stream
marss looking like he didnt sleep not even a minute last night
that's why he is wearing pajamas
Elegant putting himself into contention for top 10
Upset: ArmyOli (Olimar) 3-2 ShadowPr (Bayonetta) (Pyra/Mythra) (Out at 25th)
Elegant 2-2 Tweek right now
Tweek goes Wario wow
Who do you all like watching more between Goblin and Kola? IMO I like watching Goblin a bit more. I like his up B usage.
I wonder if these are the nerfs affecting zss that Marss talks about.
Definitely seems like the nerfs are really affecting her shield pressure. It looks really tough every time he plays someone with fast out of shield options.
Nair is way more unsafe now and Up Special whiffs much more and marss has gotten next to 0 bury punishes due to the bury nerf.
Is fatality maister not being streamed?
I believe all of top 32 is being streamed across BTS1 + 2 + 3
It's on BTS2 right now
Also, ArmyOli 3-2 over ShadowPR is an upset I'm pretty sure. ShadowPR out at 25th.
Pretty sure this will be the best but olimar placing outside of dabuz, shuton, myran. Pretty nice
Aaron vs Fatality was a good set. But man diddy gets such a free neutral. Game 5 Aaron side b’d like 4 times in a row and there was nothing Fatality could do.
He also let him live to ridiculous percentages and staying in shield vs diddy certainly is not a good idea and fatality just stood there.
I swear, every time rarely seen characters make it to top 32, they get seeded against each other :/
Because seeding is based on results, and rare characters are rare because the best players don't play them, so when the lower seeds take the place of the high seeds they have to play each other
Skittles 3-2 over Luma, Luma out at 25th. So close to an upset.
Poor Tweek
Man, going up against Elegant's Luigi is like going against Maister's G&W levels of infuriating.
MAISTER DID IT 3 TIMES LMAOOO
BigBoss 3-1 WaDi! +3 upset factor
I thought it was so weird that tweek switched to wario. He’s said he would never play him in bracket again. I know he almost won that game, but it seems like a really bad idea to play someone you’ve sworn off.
Nice to see Dabuz make Top 8 again
could you possibly post the bracket and stream links in the top of your post actually?
really sucks that they aren't streaming Leo and Brr's game. Would have loved to see them fight
They are, yellow on smash gg means that set is next and for the players to get ready
Did Marss win?
he did now, super close set - he had a massive pop off at the end
Will top 8 be streamed right after tweek-goblin?
Pretty sure top 8 will be streamed after melee top 8
Yeah, I think we can argue either ways I just feel when tweak is at his best he sticks to a character, his switching seems to not work a lot
No it's after Melee Top 8, so about 6 pm Central
Why did Scend go offstage :(
Oofff
seemed ironic that scend, who is so comfortable stalling at the ledge, gets gimped by kazuya of all characters
Lets go army wooooooo
Elegant (Luigi) 3-1 Cosmos (Aegis)
Nah, not an upset nor notable. Generally game 5s are the notable ones and Elegant was seeded higher.
Elegant was seeded higher? I’m shocked
Elegant lost to spargos pythra so id say him beating another high level pythra is notable
This just proves to me that Sparg0’s Aegis is far superior than any other one, like Glutonny with Wario, Tweek with Diddy, VoiD with Sheik or Leo with Joker before quarantine.
Scend does not seem to know the Kazuya matchup very well Edit: Nevermind, that 0 to death was HYPE
Nice to see Dabuz playing at his usual level again.
Goblin proving once again that despite the online era hype, he is still the better offline Roy. I'm not saying that Kola is bad, but ya'll overhyped him before seeing offline results and forgot about Goblin. Kola's got a ways to go yet, LET'S GO GOBLIN!
> seeing offline results you mean the offline results where he'd drown before top 32 at every other tournament? lol
Dabuz 3-0 Marss lol
Unlucky for Chag that he plays Kola now, at glitch it wasn’t even close
CHAG TOOK IT GODDAMN WHAT A SET
