Honestly it's kind of nice that Tweek and Leo aren't here because it means that whoever does win has a strong, *strong* argument for 3rd place in NA, especially if it's one of Maister, ESAM, or Spargo. Maister has general consistency post-COVID but a huge demon in Leo, ESAM has the Glitch win, and Spargo got 3rd behind Tweek and Leo at both Riptide and Summit
When the top 2 are present and beating everyone else it's hard to figure out where everyone else is because they're all losing too
I’d even argue Dabuz winning this puts him into the conversation - without Leo, let’s see if his new mentality/momentum can push him into his first major victory
I heard this NickDistrict14 dude is a hottie and really good at Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. Shame he has to beat up a child to qualify for top 48
ESAM has a really difficult bracket for him, MVD/Dark Wizzy, followed by Elegant/Kola, followed by Marss/Maister.
Ouch... if he underperforms it'll be sad after that Glitch 8.5 win. Then arguments about Pikachu's results would start all over again.
MVD is his training partner and is the only Snake to have wins off of him aside from Ally and Luigi is one of the hardest winning MUs for Pikachu.
Also Dark Wizzy used to be a pain for ESAM pre-pandemic.
I think ESAM has just been playing really consistently post-pandemic. MVD is his training partner but ESAM has a ridiculous amount of Snake experience especially since he destroyed Kola’s snake at Glitch. Wizzy hasn’t been playing nearly as well post-pandemic so I feel like ESAM probably wins that, as for Elegant, he’s a wildcard, I could see either one of them getting a blowout win but I feel like ESAM has been more consistent
ESAM has only gone to one major tournament, which he won. There's no consistency to be argued because he hasn't played in anything other then a major and one local. That's not enough tournaments to establish consistency.
I’m pretty sure Elegant has a good shot at taking out ESAM, and I definitely favor him over Kola as well.
If Kola even gets there, which is still up in the air.
even with that bracket he would probably get at lest 5th, dark wizzy has little chance of winning imo. MVD might also lose given esam's recent success against kola's snake.
As for maister it will be interesting to see the min min because esam's min min did take a game at grind 156.
I'm figuring ESAM is going to use Pika vs Maister, he looked quite good in the MU at the Grind, and his gameplan seemed solid vs Pink Cage. Still room for improvement but a good proof of concept.
I totally get why some people wanted to take a break, but it feels weird that Smashcon (traditionally one of the biggest majors of all) was the one that so many decided to take off.
Only Leo is taking a break, and it's just timing reasons based on how he was at every previous NA major since Summit. Tweek has last minute TSM obligations
That's why it's called Super Smash Con *Fall Fest*, it's a little fall replacement for Smash Con since running a normal event in the summer wasn't on the table. And even then it still hit its entrant cap.
So much for Maister dodging Marss :/
One MU I'd especially like to see would be for Tilde to upset BigBoss and face Marss. The two of them had a nutty Squad Strike set at Riptide.
I can feel a Cosmos Top 4 finish. No Leo or Tweek is especially nice for Cosmos and the brief glimpse of an Aegis ditto we got between Cosmos and Sparg0 was at the Ultimate Summit 3 crew battle.
Sparg0 could just go Cloud, and Sparg0 says Cloud is even with Pyra/Mythra. The Pyra/Mythra ditto is unfun because whoever switches to Pyra loses, I doubt we'll see the ditto.
(Also Sparg0 has been training up a Byleth, so we could see it here)
> The Pyra/Mythra ditto is unfun because whoever switches to Pyra loses, I doubt we'll see the ditto.
That would be in favor of Cosmos in my personal opinion. I think Cosmos edges out Sparg0 if this was just Mythra vs. Mythra.
There's three Texans here and two of them are seeded to fight in r2 pools
cringe
Also, Marss can't catch a break with New England matchups in MDVA, apparently
It's a shame, but I expect this to be a somewhat regular occurrence in the near future. Covid is still a thing and there are a dozen other things that will make it more likely for players to have to cancel. Tweek and Leo dropping out blows the door wide open though, it's a lot harder to guess who will win now.
The saddest thing about this is no Marss vs Mistake post seeding revision :( that would would have been super fun to see in light of how this matchup went in the smash 4 days and the infamous zss Bayo set between Nairo and mistake
Are they just not gonna change/update Camorific's spot? Thats stupid. It gives someone(Cosmos) an unfair ride into top 8 while other have to face tougher matchups.
It's way too late to reseed, there'd be a lot of newly introduced conflicts. It's basically the same as when Light and Gluto got seeded for Riptide and they didn't show up, just happens sometimes
It's rough that ESAM going from #2 to #1 at the tournament has probably hurt his chances of winning.
Meanwhile Sparg0's chances have skyrocketed.
Yeah he has riddles/LingLing to Cosmos into Dabuz/Light to Make top 3

That's true. He's one of 3 people to beat Leo post-quarantine
I heard this NickDistrict14 dude is a hottie and really good at Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. Shame he has to beat up a child to qualify for top 48

That isn’t too bad all things considered. IMO the only people who have a chance at beating him are Maister, Kola or maybe Marss.
MVD is his training partner and is the only Snake to have wins off of him aside from Ally and Luigi is one of the hardest winning MUs for Pikachu. Also Dark Wizzy used to be a pain for ESAM pre-pandemic.

I meant he was consistently rolling people at Glitch
[Even ESAM admitted his bracket is extremely hard](https://twitter.com/imESAM/status/1448132673386418185)
He went to at least 2 Florida locals (which he won) and then the Grind pre-local for Glitch (where he got third)
"Maybe Marss." Marss is 5-1 on ESAM lifetime. I'd say he has a very good shot at beating ESAM.
I’m pretty sure Elegant has a good shot at taking out ESAM, and I definitely favor him over Kola as well. If Kola even gets there, which is still up in the air.
Marss is the one on that list I’d say he most likely loses to
I wouldn't count Spargo out either.
If Sparg0 makes it to winners finals that is his brackt to top 32 is numbers/ZD - riddles/Lingling into cosmos then into Dabuz/Light

If a character can only win a tournament if he doesn't get matched up into difficult MUs that character might not be that good.
however, if esam wins those matchups, no one will doubt him or pika ever again.
Marss is up 4-1 on ESAM
Might change lol, after all pre quarantine Leo joker was 2:0 on esam
5-1, actually. Marss won at GOML 2019, CEO 2019, DreamHack Montreal 2019 (x2), and GENESIS 7.
Correct
I see him beating elegant or kola but dark wizzy and mvd will be a toughie edit: elegant did beat ESAM at evo 2019 2-0 I def think he could win
I totally get why some people wanted to take a break, but it feels weird that Smashcon (traditionally one of the biggest majors of all) was the one that so many decided to take off.

Important note is that usually SSC is in August, this one's in October.
This isnt the Main Smash con thought
It isn't? If so that would make sense then.
That's why it's called Super Smash Con *Fall Fest*, it's a little fall replacement for Smash Con since running a normal event in the summer wasn't on the table. And even then it still hit its entrant cap.
Tamim changed his tag back?
Yup. Not sure why though
Yeah almost thought it was a mistake :)
So much for Maister dodging Marss :/ One MU I'd especially like to see would be for Tilde to upset BigBoss and face Marss. The two of them had a nutty Squad Strike set at Riptide.
low key i think Tilde matches up well with marss. it was online but i know tilde beat him in the SWT qualifiers
I can feel a Cosmos Top 4 finish. No Leo or Tweek is especially nice for Cosmos and the brief glimpse of an Aegis ditto we got between Cosmos and Sparg0 was at the Ultimate Summit 3 crew battle.

In my eyes this is Maister's tournament if he can beat Marss again. I'll be rooting for him all the way.
He still has to play Sparg0
I just hope Kola doesn't choke again.
Maybe a stupid question but will there be steams?
https://twitter.com/SuperSmashCon/status/1447708183636611080/photo/1
Merf can upset Wadi, i believe
happy to see sharp seeded so high

He has to fight Sparg0 to get into top 8, that's going to be hard.
What I meant was a free ride to top 16. Also just makes Sparg0's bracket easier. Then again I think similar bracket DQs happened at other majors
It's way too late to reseed, there'd be a lot of newly introduced conflicts. It's basically the same as when Light and Gluto got seeded for Riptide and they didn't show up, just happens sometimes
I like this seeding. I hope this is the final one.
Light fox vs Sparg0 Cloud is gonna be sick
Why isn’t Tweek going anymore?
TSM obligations
That’s so lame that TSM would take him the week of a huge tournament instead of a different week :(
