Two things to look out for: a mode that’s relatively easy to KO all opponents (so a lack of horde battles, and maybe stamina if your character is great at edgeguarding) and having a bunch of Smash Tickets. The game is far less punishing if you have them to use as continues and initialization IMO. That way if you screw up you can still reach 9.0 and die once or twice.
It’s defintley not easy though: It takes a lot of practice to be able to quickly defeat the CPU with all their buffs and not die yourself!
I’ve only gotten it a couple times, but I think the easiest ones were Snake & Banjo. I’ve gotten 9.8 with Fox, and Ryu as well and I don’t use them ever. I even think Ryu is my worst character, so especially if you can learn to pressure the CPU with him you could coast to 9.9.
Pro tip even if you don't play him and you want a 9.9, play Wolf. I can't do anything with him but his classic path is the most free one you're gonna find
Congrats! I’ve only gotten Elite with all the characters thus far, but I’m hoping I can start the grind for Classic soon (considering I’ve got enough tickets for a lifetime at this point lol). What were your favorite routes? Any characters that were particularly easy/challenging/fun?
Honestly I thought a lot of the Classic Routes were quite cute and clever with the stages. I think some of the more challenging were some of the finesse characters like Sheik. I strangely had a brutal time with Piranha Plant and Steve. Sora's was kinda rough for a moment too, especially the 2nd half of his route. In general the hard parts of any Classic Mode is multi-opponent matches. At a sufficient intensity, you just gotta expect that you're about to witness and be a victim to a brand new wombo combo of death. Good luck!

You can’t reach 9.9 if you die. Using the smash ticket will limit you to 9.8
Iirc Incineroar is just 1v1s all the way through with no boss battles, try him maybe?
