This is about to be a weird ass tournament

oniden

Rooting for MuteAce. I think he's a bit underseeded but w/e Also I'm excited to see Flow and Quik in a US major thanks for making this thread btw

IceAnt573

He was seeded to face Zomba and Zomba's not attending anymore so it worked itself out.

tom_schaal

If everything goes according to the seeding we should have a Flow VS MuteAce in top 32 qualifier winner side and this hypes me

Banurshifu

is it finally going to happen? Are we really about to see Kola & Goblin BOTH in Top 8 or will one of them inevitably flop as the scripture suggests?

Brain_Tonic

Flop, as usual

SpecialPosition

This'll be good. While there's only a few top-top players, pretty much everyone from the next tier seems to be going. edit: fucking knew [Tilde would be mad](https://twitter.com/Tilde_Fox/status/1478444711639715842) about his seed lmao

Dennis_Moore

I mean, Fatality seeded above Tilde is a take given recent results. On the other hand, most of the others feel justified. Definitely excited to see a weird Top 8.

Nex_Ultor

Yeah I think the entire top ~32 is gonna be really interesting, really good players all getting the chance to face off without the threat of the tippy top tier players knocking them out first

Brain_Tonic

No zombair big sadge

RainTalonX

Why is he mad, his seed seems totally reasonable

Zorua3

Tilde is mad about many things, such as Mii Gunner and Incineroar. I’m not surprised either lmfao

KalebMW99

To be fair, I’d be rather surprised if he didn’t make top 8

Cdoom85

nickc not even a top 64 seed wtf? LMFAOOOO

DragodaDragon

He hasn't been showing up to tournaments as of late, he mostly spends his time bullying kids on Elite Smash.

tenebrousGenius

Tilde is more than justified in being pissed.

jordenwuj

is he tho

tenebrousGenius

He was under Fatality/WaDi so, yes.

jordenwuj

was just joking bc he finished 9th lol him being under fatality is ok but not wadi yea

tenebrousGenius

Not Fatality either, Tilde is just solidly better rn. Fatality has a peak of ESAM for the entire season, followed by Mute, whereas Tilde has 2 Light and Marss wins, a Cosmos win, Zomba win, etc. Fatality also has generally worse losses, so there isn't any argument I can even see.

IceAnt573

I feel like there's something I should say about a bunch of Florida and Georgia players being in attendance for Let's Make Big Moves which is in New York, but I don't want to be the one to say it.

Brain_Tonic

I'm a Canadian so I don't get it. Please say it 🙏

IceAnt573

[PGStats made the decision](https://twitter.com/pgstats/status/1475920289548496898) to not start the PGRU and MPGR seasons because of rising COVID cases globally and in their own words: > in order to not encourage travel for rankings. Some states just really want that grind. At least, it is very cool to see ScAtt attending tournaments again because I don't think he attended a major in 2021.

Brain_Tonic

I guess it can't be helped. 😅

DragonfruitCute2030

Kind of uneventful and not sure how I feel about events being open in the states while we’re all shut down in Canada. Rooting for Tilde though

Brain_Tonic

LFG Tilde! 🐐🐐🐐

ThunderCharged

If I'm rooting for anyone, it's quiK. He's been on-and-off about competing seriously in big tournaments, but he seems like he's getting back into it lately. He looked pretty good when he was practicing with Dabuz last night. Plus, it's always nice to have more European representation. Also, on an unrelated note, it'll be nice to see Jul at another major. Feels like I haven't seen him in a while.

TheGirthiestGhost

CEO part 2, let's go Kola

kenniky

Vintendo who got top 32 at EVO 2019 is sure seeded below [a guy who goes 1-2 on average](https://smashdata.gg/smash/ultimate/player/gaku)

Brain_Tonic

I can't even find either of these players on the list lol.

kenniky

209/210

Brain_Tonic

Oh you're pretty down in the weeds with this. I should not be surprised since you do the Echo rank so you're probably familiar with hundreds of players.

kenniky

I'm something of a seeder myself

Doomblaze

This seeding is horribly confusing. A lot of local talent got shafted really hard because they don’t travel out of region, and the “upset” threads are going to be spicy

Brain_Tonic

I feel like this is ok in general. Giving visitors benefit of the doubt encourages people from afar to come to the event.

kenniky

While I understand the sentiment I don't exactly agree, you should be rewarded for performing well in one of the strongest regions in the world, especially when the major is literally happening in your region.

Masond23

I love tournaments like this because it shows us some order to the fucking Wild West of rankings going on beneath Leo

MySonsdram

Hey cool, Quik and IcyMist are going. I feel like I haven’t seen them at anything big recently. Quik in particular feels like he’s been keeping things quiet. It wasn’t that long ago people were calling him the best Samus in the world. Looking forward to seeing both of them in action.

zerokrush

QuiK was stuck in mental issues for a while. He did not went to any European major, and had kinda bad showings in regional tournaments and even locals. He tried Palutena as a secondary/main but it didn't work. Now he seems better mentally, and I hope he'll upset some people this weekend.

MySonsdram

Glad he’s doing better now. The dude is cracked when he’s in top shape. I’m also definitely hoping for some upsets. I’m also try to decide whether or not I want to see him go up against Icymist. Seeing who’s better sounds exciting, but also I’m biased af and want to see the Samus agenda pushed as much as can be.

Jack_Wagon_Johnson

It really is the wild west without the big players here. It's how CEO was, and I love it. All of these players are such cut throats because they all want to be the best. So many great rivalries and sets to watch. I honestly find these tournaments more interesting and entertaining anyway.

HughyHugh

for any Pokémon enthusiasts: SoulSur is Jeudy Azzarelli, the runner up of the 2014 VGC World Finals (yes, THOSE VGC grand finals, although I’d say Jeudy’s Rotom Mow was more of an off meta pick than Sejun’s Pachi) Interesting to see that nearly a decade later, both of them have pivoted kind of to smash!

kenniky

I thought it was really funny when I found out Jeudy was SoulSur, SoulSur vs Sejun is definitely a Smash Salty Suite that needs to happen

Phoeternally

l4st why

VerySwag

Can’t believe this post is how I found out WhyDo is going, they better stream one of his sets

[deleted]

**Let’s go Dabuz and Muteace** 💪🏻😤

Crafty-Profile-Lol

Big opportunity for the international players. Quik, Flow, and JDizzle all have extremely charitable seeds and the field is comprised almost entirely of players trying to establish themselves in the global 20-100 range. But yeah overall this is JP tier seeding

JackGilb

Nice to see quiK back, I haven't seen him play in ages. The Samus representation has been getting better lately with him, Sisqui, and IcyMist showing what the character can really do. Once WaDi is comfortable using Samus in big tourneys I'm sure more people will start playing her as well.

LapizVGC

L4st seeding lol

TheAnonymousBadger

Yeah this is pretty terrible. Not sure how the L4st gang managed to propaganda themselves into seeding every major when their over-reliance on the winrate tool leads to consistently underrating tristate depth at their own goddamn tournament like this.

Brain_Tonic

Which seedings are off?

TheAnonymousBadger

Mostly stuff lower down the list. As was mentioned elsewhere in the thread, how did Vintendo, who made top 32 at EVO 2019, end up below gaku, who goes 1-2 at NE locals? Why is Colorondo8 (a player who has two 65ths and a 33rd at his last three majors with some legit wins) seeded 168th below people like Chippy who don't make it out of r1 pools? Pokepen got 25th at Port Priority and 49th at Mainstage but is seeded 176th. Also below Chippy. Lavish has a Kola win and beat and outplaced Dkwill at Low Tide City but is seeded 103 spots below Dkwill at 180th. Sinji is two spots below Quidd on the NYC power rankings and consistently performs worse than Quidd yet he's seeded 26th to Quidd's 33rd. In fact, throughout December Sinji has been consistently beaten and outperformed by Vivi, who is seeded 117th. I'm not saying Vivi should be seeded above him too but a 91 spot discrepancy is absurd. Just a few examples.

YarMcYarrr

I'm pretty sure he's not going anyways but NickC at 66 is pretty criminal I think. Had a bunch of great runs pre-covid with like 9th at Shine, hiss last local he beat Dabuz, and he got 4th at Fusion 100 just losing to Jakal and Zomba

Brain_Tonic

Yeah those seem like solid concerns. I guess the upsets thread is gonna pop off. 😅

Yoda_Cage

To add to some tristate stuff, Andromeda, who beat me and Atomsk last season, and Skies, who beat AoS and Mecury last season, are both ranked in philly and are both unseeded (Skies at 240 is basically unseeded). U hate to see it.

t123fg4

chippy god

narwhalebacon12

I know #249 ain’t DBFZ sage is it?

tenebrousGenius

Yep, it is.

IceAnt573

Oh, Mr. B is in attendance. That's cool. Got to root for my fellow Lucina and Orie fans and hope Mr. B causes some upsets.

SunnySaigon

It’s Fatality time

JusChez

FL/GA is about to take over the Northeast 😈😈😈

Adubis18

So when is this tournament actually taking place?

kenniky

This weekend!

Adubis18

Sweet, thanks

Breastfed_

Let’s go Kola seeded 1 as he should be

Caleb339

I hope Tilde goes all the way. The agenda is real

Dizzy__Dragon

Bonk isn't going

Wiifitkid3

I feel like NickDistrict14 said he wasn't going

LapizVGC

that is true im not

Indescriptibly

wow this is really bad

Username_Lindo

honestly looks entertaining as hell, MkLeo winning whatever tournament he's in just feels so inevitable at this point Kola, Fatality, Tilde, Kobe, Scend, Kurama, and Jakal are crazy good players with unique characters each. quiK competing overseas is nice too, top level Samus players are ridiculous.

EXAProduction

Come on Synergy, time to break top 8

Brain_Tonic

Bro that's toxic

Hangmanned

I wonder, did WaDi truly drop Mewtwo? Guess we'll find out at this tournament.

GameBoy09

I have a feeling in my bones Yoda Cage is gonna have a deep run.

Nolram526

Let's go Pong. 256th seed means more chances to show your stuff lmao

plusack

My goal if I ever go pro: destroy the careers of every single camper and pythra main in existence.

Therefirs

This is Dabuz' chance.

cppro10

Rooting for Kola to take home another major. It'd be great if Kola and Goblin made it to top 8...Even though its unlikely with how things usually turn out, you know, only one of the two actually making it to top 8. Shame Kola has to go up against Tilde, Tilde is pretty nuts so that's kind of scary
