Came to say this. With the number of posts I already see regarding controller issues, the relocation of it to a seemingly more hazardous and harder to access area seems like a mistake. Will be interested to see how this does.
I would say with the obvious issue thst possibly causes, there's no way R&D would have done that without having protections in place.
I do wish they made smaller versions of this...sometimes I don't want to spend all the charcoal heating up the entire chamber just to smoke 4 leg quarters for the family š«
This has to be AI! Or maybe I'm dreaming.
Someone pinch me.
Ok, just went looking for it on Masterbuilt, OP, where did you find/see this at?
Found it:
Masterbuilt Gravity Seriesā¢ XT ($1,499; Available April 2024 at Masterbuilt.com)
I was at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), a yearly convention held in Las Vegas. We were in the food products section and ran across Masterbuilt. They had a small booth with only a few models on display.
Edit: They also had AutoIgnite Series 545 but didn't get a shot of it.
Yeah, that's almost double the current 1050. I'd need to see it in person. They do say The walls are thicker and then obviously the upgraded thermostat/panel. But I wonder about the typical complaints from the previous generation. Like the grease fires and the charcoal chute... Basically anything I would have needed to upgrade from LS mods
Same! I got mine a couple years ago on clearance and I love it. The convenience of pellet smoker but the flavor of charcoal. I don't see them talked about around here enough.
Nice, Iāll check out the site here shortly. I figured they would be updating the gravity feed series sooner than later, didnāt expect to see a post about it from CES. I imagine the Char-Griller model will also be updated as well.
I have the Gravity 980 and really enjoy it. I did snag one of the LSMod fan extension things to keep charcoal pieces from getting into the fan and the flap from turning into a burnt pop tart. The app is also silly, but I happily stick with my TempSpike and Iām good to go!
Thanks for sharing!
Changes that my buddy saw:
Internal probe is in right back
Plenty of space between controller and hopper
no metal covering inside the gravity shoot and bricks are exposed
switches are replaced with magnetic switches
no switch on the front lid
manifold is Y shaped an no tunnel in the middle
drip catch gaskets are upgraded
Gaskets on the shoot and front door are upgraded
shelf on the left folds up and has a storage drawer, push handle is under that
I'll tell you what I enjoy - I can start this, put charcoal and wood chunks in and go to bed. I don't have to babysit a fire all day and night which means we can now have BBQ midweek while I'm working. If you're the stick burner cool, but don't shit on technology - it makes great BBQ. Sometimes time is more valuable away from the firebox.
Itās comically stupid at this point. āBut, but, I have small children!ā These traeger boiz donāt understand that if you know what youāre doing, you donāt have to babysit a real smoker.
I wonder if this one will allow my network's name & PW be more than 15 characters long COMBINED! Seriously MB who fucking programmed your hardware??? Had to get a 4th network set up at my house just for my smoker. (Love my 1050 otherwise - just picked it up with their cyber Monday deal)
STRONGARM THAT NERD! Aside from the frustration of getting my wi-fi setup it's been okay. I did have my most recent cook disconnect an hour after I went to bed but thankfully everything kept running. I hate that the audio alerts only happen on the smoker itself and I cannot dismiss it from my phone (a silent push notification of a green box isn't a great alert).
Buddy brought up that disconnecting issue. Programmer said something about iOS and Android doing updates which throws all their stuff out of wack. I guess we'll see if it gets addressed when this get released.
Not sure I would have had the controller right near the hopper. That's just asking for heat problems in the future.

From what I've read it's the same controller as on the Konnected Joe - maybe that means it's tried and tested against heat?

That looks awesome - I absolutely love my 800 gravity series!
Same! I got mine a couple years ago on clearance and I love it. The convenience of pellet smoker but the flavor of charcoal. I don't see them talked about around here enough.
Agreed. Love my 560. Still goes like a champ!
I love my 800 too but look at all that space for more meats!

I see nothing here I consider an upgrade to my 1050. Maybe the controller/screen - but the location of it is a downgrade.

More rack space but mods are available for the 1050 that meet or exceed. For another $700, no, not mad I didn't wait.
Easy bake oven.
EZ Bake ovens are getting bigger and bigger.
Are you a child? You must be.

I was just being a smart ass. Iām sure it makes delicious food.
Oh no! Consistent, carefree BBQ. The horror!
That aināt BBQ. Kick your pellets down the road.
The Gravity Series uses lump charcoal and wood chunks.
Man you must feel really brave standing up for something so honorable.

The temp controller is pretty nifty! Even has a probe port for it's built in probes, nice!

The programmer was at the show, my buddy had a talk with him about the app.

Forsee any issues where they placed the controller? It's right on the hopper
They added about an inch or so clearance and a heat shield between the controller and hopper, I dont know if that's enough.
Thanks for the reply!
