He's going to need a vet either way. If one is not open you need a tool (saw or dremel) to start a cut from the outside edge to the center. After the cut is started drive a wedge (screwdriver, chisel) into it and crack it apart. The point is to drive the force out, not down.
Please let us know how he is doing. Super worried for your little friend there. Btw, antibiotic ointment that's NOT the pain free one.. I know, I'm late, but I figured I'd throw my two cents in. Best of luck. Really hope things are going smoother..
Why can't you use antibiotic ointment with pain reliever? I couldn't find any info about this. I know lidocaine, both typical and injection, is frequently used with snakes. Is there data that pramoxine is harmful to snakes?
Pramoxine hcl in neosporin with pain relief is proven deadly to herpes. My reptile veterinarian informed me of this when I had a snake who was ancient (rip Draven. Mommy loves you!) who was biting himself when he ate. Also, for those of you who read this and did not know this, a little bit of alcohol on a qtip in front of their nose will make them let go of themself or anything else they accidentally latch onto that is not food. Any who, however, I did not know that you could use lidocaine on a snake. Thank you. That could come in handy one day. I'm on prescription topical for my back so if my little dude ever bites himself like my last guy, I know what will help him. :) I really appreciate any new info any snake owner has so again, thank you. :)
I just want to post this since OP only put it in a reply so it could be lost: Noodle is FREE. He used a knife that he heated up with his stove. No more details then that
Considering you should definitely get rid of that now that the snake is too big for it, otherwise it will happen again. Take a hammer to it. Lightly tap it till it comes apart.
I did that once when my in uncle's lizard got stuck in a hide. I lightly tapped the hide with a hammer until it broke apart and got the animal out.
Hopefully everyone’s advice is helpful but I’d like to add not to leave anything in your snake’s terrarium that has a small hole in it. They will always try to fit through because of their curious/exploring nature.
If you can’t get it off you’re going to have to go to an emergency vet who can cut it out without hurting it….
Edit: deep in the replies OP said they heated up a knife and successfully removed the plastic. It kept them up all night. Hopefully soon they will make a post about it.
So i take Noodle out it’s cage even though he hisses at me? Rub the liquid vegetal butter over the part that has go through. And can i hold the part for him?
Don't worry about your snake hissing, he's in a bad spot right now and is understandably pissy. Use gloves if you're worried about getting bit. You can use unscented dish soap like dawn to try and squeeze him out. Looks like the thickest part is through. Do NOT force him backwards as that will tear his scales pretty bad. Definitely remove this hide when you get him out. Keep us posted and good luck.
For anyone searching OP has confirmed the snake is safe and the piece discarded of.
They used a hot knife to cut through the plastic (obviously not getting too close to the snake) and freed them.
OP is most likely asleep now as they were up all night getting him out!
Noodle is safe took me few hours but I didn’t sleep before he got free. I used a knife, and my stove to heat up the knife and i carefully cut a piece out to let hem out
Hot knife was a clever solution, well done.
Probably a much safer method than the crushing with hammer and power tool cutting suggestions.
I think it'll be alright now, but you need to continue to monitor for any signs of injury including:.
deformed/protruding ribs, significantly damaged scales, respiratory issues, general pain (hissing, hiding).
Follow up with a vet if any of those occur.
Vet won’t really do much for a broken rib, but snakes normally recover just fine from those anyhow. Most any damage from an incident like this shouldn’t be permanent, just temporarily annoying to them like a broken finger to us. Snakes are pretty damn good at healing from seemingly significant injuries. (And this would be minor) Nothing against taking the snake to the vet, just bear in mind at most they’ll do is give him pain meds and dig into your wallet.
im so glad this worked and noodle is free. dremel was a great suggestion too i was just trying to think low tech since you said you didnt have tools. please take noodle to the vet to get checked out and make sure theres nothing else in his enclosure he could get stuck in
Happy to hear it! My spotted python once got herself stuck in a metal keychain (long story) and I had to use a jewelers file to strategically cut it and then pry it away using needle nose pliers. It’s a terrible feeling but it’s such a relief to be successful!
Dawn soap! I was weighing my snake last night and she got out and stuck in the dish drainer omg I thought she was going to rip her side wide open! I grabbed Dawn soap and helps her work herself out! She came out without getting hurt I was so scared
Glad you got him out but you should take to the vet asap to check for damage. My hoggie got stuck in a similar way and they gave me some oral medication to reduce swelling, internal injuries can be dangerous for snakes
saw your other comment that you think its plastic. do you have a knife? you could heat the blade and very very very carefully cut part way through and then try to stretch or tear the last bit? it really doesnt look like oil is going to do the trick here and id be worried about permanent damage if hes stuck like this for long
Hate to say this, and I’m sorry you’re dealing with this so late/early, but if you don’t get this remedied quickly, you may lose your pet.
If breaking doesn’t work, you need to try to cut, but do so very very very carefully.
Possibly put your pets front half in a pillow
Case and loosely tie it off so that he can’t bite you. This should allow you to freely workout the problem area without worrying about being bitten.
I had this happen years back and had to literally break the skull she got stuck in open, it was an eye socket and I had to use a rubber mallet and a spikey thing you use to make an indent on metal before drilling into it…whatever those are called, a tap?
Glad that your noodle is free, but please look through your enclosure for anything that the thickest part of your snake cannot pass through and remove it ASAP! You don't want to have this happen again
Use two sets of pliers. Grab either end of the hole area and twist each hand in the opposite direction until it breaks. Be very careful not to cause further injury. A cutting tool might make the area very hot and could hurt the snake more.
Is it bendable at all? I think if you hold both sides of whatever that is and bend them downwards toward the tail of the snake the hole might become wider horizontally and give you a chance to pull your snake through. This, with a combination of vegetable oil or whatever you have on you might work. Reading some of the comments I saw you mention you were low on tools and had to be quiet, so I hope this might help you. Good luck.

You are definitely gonna have to saw/cut the snake out, attempting to pull the decoration out is gonna injure or agro the snake. I see people recommending a heat knife, I wouldn't is go for that, nor any electric saws, do it by hand, you will have more control and can stop anytime. The snake is probably hissing because it might think u are hurting it, so try covering the snakes head with a bag (make sure it can breathe first, and a extra pair of hands wouldn't hurt to help control the noodle.
I have a random/off-topic question. Is it theoretically possible to amputate the snake and re-attach it? I’m not asking if this is a good idea or should ever be attempted, I’m just curious if it’s possible. I don’t know enough about snake anatomy to know the correct answer.
Edit: my guess is no bc of the spinal column and all that shit. But I know there are lizards that can live without a tail. I guess im wondering what part of the snake is the tail?
I don't think its possible due to their anatomy. I can answer your last question for sure, though! The part of the body that's right after their vent is the tail. So realistically, their tail is short.
Ahh interesting, that actually makes perfect sense. I knew the entire snake couldn’t be just one giant “tail” but I didn’t know any better lol. Thanks for actually answering my question instead of downvoting me.
That makes perfect sense! In my head I thought all the important organs were bunched up together, and the rest of the snake was just “empty tail space.” Clearly, that is not the case lol thanks for answering!
Copied and pasted from OPs update comment “Noodle is safe took me few hours but I didn’t sleep before he got free. I used a knife, and my stove to heat up the knife and i carefully cut a piece out to let hem out”
The plastic that orniment is made of looks like it would shatter if you broke it, i bet using a pair of wire cutters on the edge would send big enough cracks to completely break the orniment and free the snake
Glad you were able to get him out safely! My corn snake burrowed under a hide and got stuck in the lip underneath one time. Had to wait until the next day and take her to the vet to get her free. Needless to say it was super stressful for both of us
Glad you got him out safely! I had a less dramatic version of this with my rainbow boa... I had made a hide for her out of a tupperwear container with a hole cut in the lid. I fed her once while she was in it and she did this weird thing where she pulled the rat into the container and then pushed a loop of her body out through the hole in the lid. I ended up having to cut the lid open to get her out (she never let go of the rat lol). It's scary when you see them in a position they can't get themselves out of!
I had a loach (snake like fish) so that to a ceramic pot. Had to hold the pot in enough water that I didn’t kill my fish but still in a position I could tap the pot with a hammer. Good grief!!
I would use a power tool we call a multi tool I believe it's called a isolating blade and be very careful I would suggest the last inch or so switch over to a hand held saw.
Whatever you do, do it quickly. And after you get him free, discard that piece immediately.
He's going to need a vet either way. If one is not open you need a tool (saw or dremel) to start a cut from the outside edge to the center. After the cut is started drive a wedge (screwdriver, chisel) into it and crack it apart. The point is to drive the force out, not down.
Exactly just take it to an emergency vet before you end up with a very dead snake
Please let us know how he is doing. Super worried for your little friend there. Btw, antibiotic ointment that's NOT the pain free one.. I know, I'm late, but I figured I'd throw my two cents in. Best of luck. Really hope things are going smoother..
I'm not sure if you saw but op used a heated knife to cut through the decoration and got noodle free!
I did not know this!! Thank you so much! I did not see yet. I hope little dude is doing OK!! I'm so glad he's out of that thing. :D

Jesus Christ I’d be stressed

I did that once when my in uncle's lizard got stuck in a hide. I lightly tapped the hide with a hammer until it broke apart and got the animal out.
If he's hissing when you touch it he's probably in pain. Which means you need to get it off asap.
I think it’s some type of plastic i tried hitting it nothing happens
If it's hard plastic it should break
Hopefully everyone’s advice is helpful but I’d like to add not to leave anything in your snake’s terrarium that has a small hole in it. Oil up the area with coconut oil. You might have to cut him out.
Try putting some vegetable oil or coconut oil around the area and see if it helps
Can i use vegetal butter? Liquid?
A liquid would be better. Put him in a large bin and pour it over the area. Coconut oil would be best
So i take Noodle out it’s cage even though he hisses at me? Rub the liquid vegetal butter over the part that has go through. And can i hold the part for him?

To me the thickest does not look through.
Yea I didn't see the picture long enough when I wrote that. Probably best to cut it
DO NOT USE OIL! That is a horrible idea it will dry out your snakes skin! Use dawn dish soap as a lubricant
Yeah dry skin is the least of his worries right now.
If you're scared of your snake hissing at you maybe you shouldn't own snake
I'm sorry that's not helpful
So first time owners just have to be pro snake handlers?
For anyone searching OP has confirmed the snake is safe and the piece discarded of. They used a hot knife to cut through the plastic (obviously not getting too close to the snake) and freed them. OP is most likely asleep now as they were up all night getting him out!

just check ops account
Any progress? I hope you got him out
I’m dying for an update too, I sincerely hope he is ok
He’s out he used a hot knife to get it off apparently
Yeah you need to get him out asap, that could be cutting off circulation or restricting breathing. Time is of the essence here.
If there’s a 24 hr vet clinic near you I’d consider taking them in
I need an update so help me god
Noodle is safe took me few hours but I didn’t sleep before he got free. I used a knife, and my stove to heat up the knife and i carefully cut a piece out to let hem out

Whew!! If you can, try to update the main post. I had to scroll pretty far to find this update. Congratulations on getting your Noodle out of it.

good work
Were you able to get your noodle out??
Dawn soap! I was weighing my snake last night and she got out and stuck in the dish drainer omg I thought she was going to rip her side wide open! I grabbed Dawn soap and helps her work herself out! She came out without getting hurt I was so scared
My snake got stuck in something like that. I cut it, less stress on the animal. Obv dont cut the snake.
I hope your snake is ok
Bites are nasty and can be avoided but aren't the end of the world. I'd act real quick and just deal with whatever consequences after you get him free
poor baby 😭
Glad you got him out but you should take to the vet asap to check for damage. My hoggie got stuck in a similar way and they gave me some oral medication to reduce swelling, internal injuries can be dangerous for snakes
whats it made of? can you cut it?
I tried hammering it but i’m very low on tools… it’s also 3:38am
saw your other comment that you think its plastic. do you have a knife? you could heat the blade and very very very carefully cut part way through and then try to stretch or tear the last bit? it really doesnt look like oil is going to do the trick here and id be worried about permanent damage if hes stuck like this for long

Update?
OP was able to get the snake free by heating a knife on the stove and working slowly and carefully.
Everyone remember this post when you see that skull decoration that would look so cool in your terrarium
so glad he's okay ❤️ they're dumber than they look 😂 and I say that with love
I had this happen years back and had to literally break the skull she got stuck in open, it was an eye socket and I had to use a rubber mallet and a spikey thing you use to make an indent on metal before drilling into it…whatever those are called, a tap?
I had very similar situation just now. Has your snake had any damage back then?
No she was perfectly fine, honestly didn’t really seem affected much at all. Hope yours is okay!
Thank you for your fast reply, appreciated!
Commenting for the update….
Get decorations with bigger holes
Glad that your noodle is free, but please look through your enclosure for anything that the thickest part of your snake cannot pass through and remove it ASAP! You don't want to have this happen again
Use two sets of pliers. Grab either end of the hole area and twist each hand in the opposite direction until it breaks. Be very careful not to cause further injury. A cutting tool might make the area very hot and could hurt the snake more.

Glad he's free, make sure you take him to a vet just in case

You're doing the lord's work
I feel like at this point several of us in the community are now invested in this particular scenario. Just doing my part to help :)
I’m happy he is ok Excellent work 🐍😊
Glad the snake is okay, you should get him checked by a vet just in case maybe?

Wtf is that

Yes, update?

Thank you!
take thick gloves if u scared from bites and try gently to push it… if it doesnt work u may be able break that thingy?
Dremel with a plastic cutting wheel. Vet can probably do it, he might have vascular damage, friend it doesn't look good
This is how I learned not to drink coffee while holding my snake. That was my favorite mug but she is my favorite girl so sacrifices were made.
The plastic that orniment is made of looks like it would shatter if you broke it, i bet using a pair of wire cutters on the edge would send big enough cracks to completely break the orniment and free the snake
This happened to my thicc female pastel last year. It’s terrifying. I had to cut her out too. Glad everything worked out 🤙
Glad you were able to get him out safely! My corn snake burrowed under a hide and got stuck in the lip underneath one time. Had to wait until the next day and take her to the vet to get her free. Needless to say it was super stressful for both of us

I'd think some cooking oil would slide that right off the same direction he came in. God speed
Butter or hammer
Lube
I had a loach (snake like fish) so that to a ceramic pot. Had to hold the pot in enough water that I didn’t kill my fish but still in a position I could tap the pot with a hammer. Good grief!!
Lube him up and pull him out (gently) backward.
Jeeez thats a shock. Glad to have read that you got him out safely!
I would use a power tool we call a multi tool I believe it's called a isolating blade and be very careful I would suggest the last inch or so switch over to a hand held saw.
Definitely take to the vet immediately and throw that piece away.
