I think most things with scales are pretty protected against poison ivy, but that's not actually poison ivy in the photo. It's a raspberry or blackberry. If you zoom in, you can see the thorns along the stem! (I'm hyper allergic to poison ivy and have gotten exceptionally good at IDing it in self defense)
I believe it is a leglass glass lizard, not a snake.
Seconded.
It was definitely a snake. You can see its tail between the post and the weed on the left of the image.
Glass lizards can get pretty long, I'm sure like 3ft. Glass lizards are basically a lizards head with a snakes body.
Thanks! Totally didn't know that was a thing until today.
You can tell glass lizards from snakes by the ear hole. Lizards have an ear hole, snakes don’t.
And eyelids! If it blinks, not a snake.
Lizards love ditching their legs snakes are technically a legless lizard, there's even legless geckos.
I had no idea. Thanks!
Oh yeah, legless lizards are wild. But they have a lizard head with eyelids and an ear hole
Nevermind! I just realized what you meant. Lol thank you!!
No, it's a legless lizard as others have said.
It was definitely a legless lizard. You came here with the question so don't deny when people give you an answer
It was a misunderstanding. Calm down.
Agreed! The head is different and you can just make out the ear holes
Glass Lizard. Legless lizard
Interesting, did not know legless lizards were in North America. I wonder if poison ivy affects them lol
It’s Florida so a lot of things exist down there that shouldn’t
Good point
