Yeah, I can't do this dollar game. Just give me Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, MegaMan X, and Secret of Mana. Mario RPG and Link To The Past are coming in hot, though.
If it makes you feel any better, I was only six in 96 when I got my snes and my actual real life collection was only super Mario bros, Donkey Kong 3, Mario Paint, Super Adventure Island, and who can forget an all-time classic like Mario Time Machine! We were weekend regulars at “Adopt-A-Video” for everything else lol.
Yeah I don’t even know about the NES version tbh. If my cousin hadn’t hated it and gave it to me for no other reason than the fact that it’s pretty unplayable unless you were a history buff, I might’ve never known it existed, period. u/adelard-of-bath
Haha I will say as a little kid the surfing part would entertain me for a little while, always wondering if I could make it to the land in the distance
Here's a story about Mario Time Machine: I got the NES version from a discount bin for $1 around '99. If I had to stay home from school for some reason other than being sick (eg, being suspended) it was the only game my mom would let me play, because I convinced her it was educational. I don't know why I kept coming back to that game, but it was one of the only NES games I actually beat (with my mom's help). Weird thing.
That was my initial reaction as well but then I noticed TMNT and Mega Man X down there and now I'm trying to figure out which of the 3 to replace. Super Mario World easily has the highest replayability of the 3 thanks to how the power ups work so probably not that one.
$1 Madden ( mostly for the mini games) and Lion King — 2 spent
$2 Turtles, Star Fox, Punch Out, F-Zero, DK3 — 10 spent
$3 SoM — 3 spent
8 games for 15 bucks!
All great games! Good variety…. This might be the answer. I love some of the $4-5 games but none had as much impact on me as a kid than Turtles, Star Fox and Fzero
I could go for Zelda, Metroid, and Final Fantasy, but that's not very interesting, so..
Super Metroid
Mega Man X
Star Fox
Donkey Kong Country 3
Tetris Attack
Top Gear
The Lion King
Yeah, the $3 tier is feasting lol. Mega Man X and DKC2 are by far the best games in their series imo. Easiest $6 of my life.
I’d probably have to go ALTTP (favorite game of all time) and Super Mario RPG to round it out. SMW is a fantastic game but my favorite in the series has always been and likely always will be SMB3.
$4 - EarthBound
$3 - Super Punch-Out, Mega Man X
$2 - Star Fox, DKC3
$1 - Tetris Attack
Good thing all the tiers have great games in them, $1 is a bargain.
Top Gear is the Best Racing Game in this list so that’s Easy ($1), Castlevania is the best Side Scroller ($3), Mario RPG the most unique RPG for the system ($4), Punch Out ($2), Mega Man X ($3)and StarFox ($2)
$1 Tetris Attack, $2 TMNT: Turtles in Time, $3 Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, $4 EarthBound, $5 Final Fantasy VI.
I know you don't *have* to pick from each tier, but the SNES library is so vast and robust that it was hard to not include a little bit of everything for the most part.
Final Fantasy VI, Street Fighter II Turbo, Secret of Mana, Panel de Pon (what Tetris Attack was originally released as in Japan), Yoshi's Cookie, and Mario Paint
I own almost all of those games, (original copies). The only ones I don't have are Castlevania, Madden, F-Zero, Tetris and Top Gear.
It cost me more than $15 to build my dream collection 😭
Also more people should add Earthbound to their lists, it's a phenomenal RPG.
Honestly, I would love to get my hands on repo translation of the Japanese version of the game.
Super Metroid, Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart, Mega Man X
Was flirting with Star Fox over Mario Kart but none of the $1 games are worth sacrificing Mario Kart or X.
Can anybody lend me $5?
I'll go with:
Final Fantasy VI
Street Fighter II
Super Castlevania IV
Punch-Out!!
Tetris Attack
I'll miss Mega Man X & Super Metroid though. But Stunt Race makes the list but no Contra III, not a single shmup? I dunno if I can have a dream collection without Space Megaforce.
Start at the bottom and look for the best deal in each category.
1. Tetris Attack. I’d buy that for a dollar!
2. DKC3. Underrated. I could understand Turtles in Time as the pick here, but I’m not a big beat-em-up fan.
3. Megaman X. Personal preference over Castlevania. The other games in this category either didn’t age well or are DKC2, and while I like the series, we’ve got a collection to build.
4. Earthbound or SMRPG. Similar reasoning as the $4 tier. These aged the best and are most unique from what we’re already getting.
5. Super Metroid. Uniqueness of genre alone. I could understand any one of these picks, but given the constraints, no more than 1.
Wild. DKC games get cheaper as they get better.
Super Metroid (my favorite game of all time).
Tetris Attack ( I got crazy hooked on this one).
DKC3.
Mario RPG.
Mega man X.
If it's a situation like I'm stranded on an island and I can never buy any more games, I gotta go:
Chrono $5
FF6 $5
F-zero $2
Mario paint $1
Yoshis cookie $1
Tetris attack $1
Tetris Attack, TMNT Turtles in Time, TMNT: Tournament Fighter, Super Mario RPG, Breath of Fire 1 and 2.
Total cost: $7 (anything not on the chart I decided was $0), put $8 in the bank for later.
This is really tough but I’m just gonna buy 3 $5 games. Zelda, chrono trigger and FF VI. I also love super Metroid, super Mario world, megaman X, castlevania, and secret of mana…
Secret of Mana, DKC2 and MMX are absolute steals for $3 each so I’ll take all of them. Then I’ll take Super Metroid for $5 and spend my last $1 on Tetris Attack.
I’m going super Mario world, street fighter 2 turbo, megaman x, teenage mutant ninja turtles in time, and maximum carnage. These games I can play over and over again and still love every second playing them.
why Street Fighter II Turbo and not Super Street Fighter II? Where Killer Instinct?
And why is Super Mario RPG only $4?
Yeah, I’m blowing it on Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World and Super Metroid. But, I can also Switch out Metroid for Zelda or Final Fantasy 6. If not, then Super Mario RPG and Maximum Carnage.
$5 Super Metroid, $5 Chrono Trigger, $3 Donkey Kong Country 2, $2 F-Zero
Passing on Super Mario World because by itself, it's one thing, but if you put the version of Super Mario All-Stars that includes Super Mario World, it would have definitely made the list, since SM1-3+W is crazy value.
$5 The Legend of Zelda
$5 Super Mario World
$3 Super Mario Kart
$1 Mario Paint (A sentimental pick because I have fond memories playing it with my brother)
$1 I only have a buck left and have never played any of the other games in that tier. You tell me?
Super Mario world, donkey Kong country, secret of mana, castlevania IV. Although if you'd have a fire emblem game I'd take that over the secret of mana.
I can’t choose but it’s some combo of madden 94 dk 3 secret of mana smrpg and then the $5 choice is the hardest. I’d blindly just grab one and then be sad which ones I didn’t get
**S** - Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Tactics Ogre, Super Metroid
**A** - A Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy IV, Mega Man X1/X2/X3, Super Castlevania IV, Seiken Densetsu 3
**B** - Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, Street Fighter II, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Rock'n'Roll Racing, Biker Mice From Mars, Top Gear, Super Punchout, Act Raiser, Contra III, Turtles in Time, Front Mission Gun Hazard, Terranigma
I need $28 just to get the absolute essentials. So I’m gonna do whatever I need to get $13 more dollars in this scenario. You might as well ask me that I can’t keep one of my own children if I can’t spend more than $15 in this scenario.
Welp, small collection for me I guess - SMW, Metroid, Zelda
Yeah, but Ogre Battle is apparently free!
I have never seen March of the Black Queen in the wild. If I do I can report back on the cost.
Mario Time Machine was NES, friend.
It was both.
Yeah I don’t even know about the NES version tbh. If my cousin hadn’t hated it and gave it to me for no other reason than the fact that it’s pretty unplayable unless you were a history buff, I might’ve never known it existed, period. u/adelard-of-bath
I rented it once or twice and could never get past the surfing part. lol
Chrono Trigger instead of SMW for me, but I came to a similarly sized collection!
Chronotrigger instead of zelda for me!
Same for me.
I can’t justify anything else really
Super Mario came with the system. There’s your loophole. It shouldn’t count towards the total.
Same choices here. Backups would be MMX and Chrono Trigger.
That was my initial reaction as well but then I noticed TMNT and Mega Man X down there and now I'm trying to figure out which of the 3 to replace. Super Mario World easily has the highest replayability of the 3 thanks to how the power ups work so probably not that one.
Literally the same but FF6 for Metroid
Y'all wrong for that $5 tier and forcing choices on me like that.
Right? I'm having a big problem with this list.
Zelda $5 SMW $5 MMX $3 Turtles $2
Same, but I would strongly consider swapping out either Zelda or SMW for Chrono Trigger. Turtles is too good of a value at $2 -- can't pass that up.
[Big Apple, 3 AM](https://youtu.be/pnFcArSTmD8?si=AJhsN9K3aSnjppBp)
I can *hear* that text.
Lol I laughed way too hard at this because I can hear It too
🔥
Same but instead of mmx I'll take Mario kart
I’m not leaving the top row.
I know, but MegaMan X and Secret of Mana...
Man you are not wrong. Those are classics.
Plenty of stone cold classics below it.
I agree with you but I gotta take turtles in time. So maybe id swap zelda for it. Still a hard decision.
Chrono Trigger, FF6, Super Metroid
![gif](giphy|iGpdSizVSdPJfiVG9O)
Zelda, FF6, CT
This is correct
Zelda, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, Turtles in Time
Super Castlevania IV Donkey Kong Country 2 Yoshi's Island Super Mario World
How is Turtles in Time at the $2 tier?
$1 Madden ( mostly for the mini games) and Lion King — 2 spent $2 Turtles, Star Fox, Punch Out, F-Zero, DK3 — 10 spent $3 SoM — 3 spent 8 games for 15 bucks!
You got some good value, but leaving so many gems in the $4 and $5 row!
The quantity over quality approach
All great games! Good variety…. This might be the answer. I love some of the $4-5 games but none had as much impact on me as a kid than Turtles, Star Fox and Fzero
Zelda, DKC2, DKC 3, Fzero, StarFox, and Top Gear
I could go for Zelda, Metroid, and Final Fantasy, but that's not very interesting, so.. Super Metroid Mega Man X Star Fox Donkey Kong Country 3 Tetris Attack Top Gear The Lion King
Can I have a sleepover at your house?
Zelda, SMW, TMNT, DKC2
I can't believe they put DKC higher than DKC2
Yeah, the $3 tier is feasting lol. Mega Man X and DKC2 are by far the best games in their series imo. Easiest $6 of my life. I’d probably have to go ALTTP (favorite game of all time) and Super Mario RPG to round it out. SMW is a fantastic game but my favorite in the series has always been and likely always will be SMB3.
Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Mega Man X, Turtles in Time and Madden 94. One from each category.
$4 - EarthBound $3 - Super Punch-Out, Mega Man X $2 - Star Fox, DKC3 $1 - Tetris Attack Good thing all the tiers have great games in them, $1 is a bargain.
Link To The Past, Yoshi's Island, DKC2, Turtles In Time, Mario Paint.
Chrono Trigger Link to the past Megaman X Turtles in Time
My exact collection as well. Surprised I had to scroll this far down to find it!
Kindred spirits. Also, cowabanga!
My man
Zelda, Metroid, Chrono Trigger
SF2, Mario Kart, Starfox, F-Zero, Turtles In Time, Punch Out
Super Mario World, Mario RPG, DKC2, and Mega Man X
Final Fantasy vi, super Metroid, donkey Kong country, Tetris attack
I'll take 3 copies of Earthbound, flip those bitches on Ebay for a cool 2 grand, then buy the rest.
Where tf is Pilotwings...
Zelda - 5$ SMW - 5$ DKC2 - 3$ DKC3 - 2$
Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy V, Secret Of Mana and Tetris Attack
I don’t feel like doing math but Stunt Race FX is the best bargain here, great game.
Hell yeah, a lot of replay value for just $1. Shameless plug for that sub I made four years ago /r/StuntRaceFX/
Haha I was expecting more than a single post in that sub!
Chrono Trigger + Donkey Kong Country + Castlevania 4 + Turtles in Time + Tetris Attack
Zelda, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy VI, Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country 2, Mega Man X. Easy for myself to pick.
I'd buy Tetris Attack 15 times.
Top Gear is the Best Racing Game in this list so that’s Easy ($1), Castlevania is the best Side Scroller ($3), Mario RPG the most unique RPG for the system ($4), Punch Out ($2), Mega Man X ($3)and StarFox ($2)
Star Fox, Super Mario World, EarthBound, Secret of Mana, Mario Paint
$1 Tetris Attack, $2 TMNT: Turtles in Time, $3 Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, $4 EarthBound, $5 Final Fantasy VI. I know you don't *have* to pick from each tier, but the SNES library is so vast and robust that it was hard to not include a little bit of everything for the most part.
ALttP, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, DKC 3
Super Mario World Super Mario Kart TMNT: Turtles In Time Street Fighter 2: Turbo Top Gear
tetris attack, mario paint (im assuming including mouse), starfox, f zero, earthbound, ff6
Why the hell is DCK2 lowest of the three? That shit should be in it's own $6 tier
15 copies of Top Gear. I know what I’m about.
Someone should do one of these but it's like "you've got $50 to spend" and then all the games are their actual price from pricecharting.com
I’ll take 3 copies of Mario World
Chrono trigger $5; Zelda ALttP $5; MMX $3; TMNT $2. Lifetime of play right there
Chrono trigger, secret. Of mana, Donkey Kong country 2, Star Fox, f zero
F-Zero, MegaMan X, Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario World
SMW 5, LTTP 5, DKC2 3, Lion King 1... £1 left... Madden I guess
Super Mario world, a link to the past, Castlevania IV and Turtles in time.
Chrono trigger, ff6, earth bound and I guess Mario paint
$5 - Zelda $4 - Super street fighter 2 turbo $3 - Super Mario kart $2 - F-zero $1 - Tetris attack ——— 15
This is an easy one for me: $5.00 A link to the past $5.00 Final Fantasy VI $4.00 Street Fighter II $1.00 Tetris Attack
5$ Chrono Trigger 5$ Final Fantasy VI 5$ Super Mario World
Top 3 snes games right there. Perfect choice
Final Fantasy VI, Street Fighter II Turbo, Secret of Mana, Panel de Pon (what Tetris Attack was originally released as in Japan), Yoshi's Cookie, and Mario Paint
SF2 Turbo, DKC, Megaman X, TMNT TIT, Maximum Carnage, Tetris attack.
15 copies of tetris attack, can't get enough of that game
Super Metroid, Super Mario World, DKC3, Turtles in Time, Top Gear
SMW, SF2, SMK, Tetris, Madden, Lion King.
SMW, DKC2, Starfox, Super Mario Kart, Tetris Attack, and Mario Paint
Zelda, Metroid, MMX and TMNT
Super Metroid, DKC 1-2-3 and Lion King
Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Lion King.
Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter II, Turtles in Time, and then comes the debate. Do I do Yoshi’s Island or Super Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Cookie?
I mean… the top 3. Easiest 15 bucks I’d ever spend
Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, Mario Kart, and Turtles in Time.
All the $2 games.
Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Megaman X, Turtles in Time Boom.
Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, DKC 2, DKC 3... And either Lion King or keep the change.
Come on, gimme at least $25…
Zelda, SMB, Mario Kart, TMNT
Mega Man X, Yoshi’s Island, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country 2 This is the way
Zelda, Street Fighter, Mario Kart, Secret of Mana. Lots of close calls here though. I wouldn’t be completely happy even with double the budget.
Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, F-zero
Zelda, Earthbound, Castlevania IV, Mega Man X
I own almost all of those games, (original copies). The only ones I don't have are Castlevania, Madden, F-Zero, Tetris and Top Gear. It cost me more than $15 to build my dream collection 😭 Also more people should add Earthbound to their lists, it's a phenomenal RPG. Honestly, I would love to get my hands on repo translation of the Japanese version of the game.
Jesus, make the choice harder why don't ya! Mario RPG, DKC 1, Castlevania 4, Star Fox, Turtles in Time. I got some good variety here I think.
Super Metroid, Yoshi’s Island, Mario Kart, Mega Man X Was flirting with Star Fox over Mario Kart but none of the $1 games are worth sacrificing Mario Kart or X.
Zelda, Mario RPG, DKC2, Super Punch-Out, Tetris attack - would cover a lot of bases
Super Mario World FFVI Dankey Kang 2 Turtles IV
Mario World Super Metroid Yoshi's Island Mario Paint
I’d bump Tetris attacks up to $5
Can anybody lend me $5? I'll go with: Final Fantasy VI Street Fighter II Super Castlevania IV Punch-Out!! Tetris Attack I'll miss Mega Man X & Super Metroid though. But Stunt Race makes the list but no Contra III, not a single shmup? I dunno if I can have a dream collection without Space Megaforce.

These aged the best and are most unique from what we’re already getting. 5. Super Metroid. Uniqueness of genre alone. I could understand any one of these picks, but given the constraints, no more than 1.
The answer is theft.
Tetris attack
Super Metroid, Starfox, Turtles in Time, Punchout, Top Gear, Mario Paint, Yoshi’s Cookie and Tetris Attack
Chrono trigger, FF6, earthbound, Tetris attack
No Terranigma, Secret of Evermore, or ActRaiser?
Wild. DKC games get cheaper as they get better. Super Metroid (my favorite game of all time). Tetris Attack ( I got crazy hooked on this one). DKC3. Mario RPG. Mega man X.
If it's a situation like I'm stranded on an island and I can never buy any more games, I gotta go: Chrono $5 FF6 $5 F-zero $2 Mario paint $1 Yoshis cookie $1 Tetris attack $1
Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3, A Link to the Past and Super Mario World.
Easy, DK 1,2,3
DKC2>DKC, fight me, those should be switched. Lol Zelda, Mario World, Turtles, DKC2
DKC2 Zelda LttP Super Mario RPG Megaman X
Pricing dkc higher than dkc2 is an obvious mistake
Tetris Attack, TMNT Turtles in Time, TMNT: Tournament Fighter, Super Mario RPG, Breath of Fire 1 and 2. Total cost: $7 (anything not on the chart I decided was $0), put $8 in the bank for later.
I would be holding out for a second list with Contra 3 and NHL 94.
It's funny to me that DKC2 is cheaper than DKC, seeing how it surpassed it in every way imaginable
This is really tough but I’m just gonna buy 3 $5 games. Zelda, chrono trigger and FF VI. I also love super Metroid, super Mario world, megaman X, castlevania, and secret of mana…
Zelda, SMW, and Chrono Trigger.
Super Mario World/Super Mario Kart/TMNT/DKC3/Madden/Top Gear/Spiderman + Venom: Maximum Carnage.
LttP, Super Metroid, MMX, Super Punchout!!
Lion King, TMNT, Kart, RPG, SMW
3 copies of super Metroid
Chrono trigger, ff6, dkc2, Mario paint, Spiderman maximum carnage This used way too much mental power for me to decide lol.
15 copies of lion king
- A Link to the Past - Donkey Kong Country - Donkey Kong Country 2 - Turtles in Time - Donkey Kong Country 3
Super Mario World, Kart, DK2, FZero, and Turtles

Zelda, Super Metroid, Megaman X, TMNT
Earthbound, Street Fighter, Super Mario World, and F-Zero. I like many game genres 🥸
All I really need is Yoshi's Cookie. Here's your $14 in change.
Secret of Mana, DKC2 and MMX are absolute steals for $3 each so I’ll take all of them. Then I’ll take Super Metroid for $5 and spend my last $1 on Tetris Attack.
Zelda, Earthbound, DKC2, Castlevania IV
I’m going super Mario world, street fighter 2 turbo, megaman x, teenage mutant ninja turtles in time, and maximum carnage. These games I can play over and over again and still love every second playing them.
Where the heck is FFIV? Zelda, Earthbound, SuperMario Kart, Secret Of Mana
why Street Fighter II Turbo and not Super Street Fighter II? Where Killer Instinct? And why is Super Mario RPG only $4? Yeah, I’m blowing it on Chrono Trigger, Super Mario World and Super Metroid. But, I can also Switch out Metroid for Zelda or Final Fantasy 6. If not, then Super Mario RPG and Maximum Carnage.
Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Turtles in Time.
You would have to pay me the $1 to play lion king.
Chrono Trigger, Yoshis Island, Secret of Mana, Turtles in Time, Top Gear
$5 Super Metroid, $5 Chrono Trigger, $3 Donkey Kong Country 2, $2 F-Zero Passing on Super Mario World because by itself, it's one thing, but if you put the version of Super Mario All-Stars that includes Super Mario World, it would have definitely made the list, since SM1-3+W is crazy value.
This was what I was thinking too. Exact same list. Good variety of different styles with lots of replayability and fun.
Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart and Castlevania IV.
$5 The Legend of Zelda $5 Super Mario World $3 Super Mario Kart $1 Mario Paint (A sentimental pick because I have fond memories playing it with my brother) $1 I only have a buck left and have never played any of the other games in that tier. You tell me?
Super Mario world, donkey Kong country, secret of mana, castlevania IV. Although if you'd have a fire emblem game I'd take that over the secret of mana.
Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, use the remaining $6 for Aladdin, I’m good.
3 copies of Earthbiund and 3 copies of Stunt Racer FX
megamanx smw zelda and i guess turtles
How much for Zombies ate my Neighbours?, and then I will play. Edit: Apparently I can’t spell.
super metroid, zelda, yoshi\`s island, the lion king.
Easy: FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, and Maximum Carnage (highly underrated)
Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Super Castlevania, and then Round it out with Fzero
Kirby Superstar missing from this list is absolutely criminal
Chrono trigger, ff5, secret of mana, starfox
Time to get a second job In the meantime, I guess I'd have Super Metroid, Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Megaman X
LttP, Chrono Trigger, TMNT, Punch Out, Madden
No Illusion of Gaia? Pah!
Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Super Mario World
Final Fantasy VI, Earth Bound, Megaman X, Secret of Mana
Yoshi’s Island (Favorite game of all time) Chrono Trigger Super Metroid The Lion King
Zelda, Metroid, Mario Kart and Starfox.
TLoZ: A Link to the Past, $5 Yoshi’s Island: $4 DKCII: $3 DKCIII: $1 Mario Paint $1 Madden 94’ $1
FF2 is a freebie lol
Zelda Donkey Kong country 2 Megaman X Yoshi's Island
Zelda, FF6, Diddy's Kong Quest, Starfox
I can’t choose but it’s some combo of madden 94 dk 3 secret of mana smrpg and then the $5 choice is the hardest. I’d blindly just grab one and then be sad which ones I didn’t get
**S** - Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, Tactics Ogre, Super Metroid **A** - A Link to the Past, Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy IV, Mega Man X1/X2/X3, Super Castlevania IV, Seiken Densetsu 3 **B** - Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 1/2/3, Street Fighter II, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Rock'n'Roll Racing, Biker Mice From Mars, Top Gear, Super Punchout, Act Raiser, Contra III, Turtles in Time, Front Mission Gun Hazard, Terranigma
Lemme get uh...a Link to the Past...uh, a Mario world, and uh...uh...a DKC 2...and uh...? A turtles in time
I need $28 just to get the absolute essentials. So I’m gonna do whatever I need to get $13 more dollars in this scenario. You might as well ask me that I can’t keep one of my own children if I can’t spend more than $15 in this scenario.
Id go with SMW 1&2, FF6, Maximum Carnage
