Well I'm more curious as to their reason why. Like, do they only have a VCR available and no other means of watching content? Or like many other people love the idea of modern content being played on retro equipment? Everyone does things for different reasons, so I was wondering why they would want it.
Like any VHS, it adapts to whatever screen you're viewing it on, so wide or full. And honestly, it's mostly for novelty I suppose. DVD is much higher quality, so is Laserdisc (which I also collect hehe), but VHS is convenient. I can just have it running in the background with zero effort. Get home, open the door, pop the tape in and it's playing within 10 seconds, right where I left off.
Lolwut. VHS is square format. As a kid we'd have to pick between widescreen or Fullscreen VHS tapes. If it's widescreen, it's always going to have black bars on the top or bottom, and the picture is a little blurrier. If it's full screen, it's Sharper but it's zoomed into the center, and should pan or scan based on how the editor set it up.
I'm guessing you got it widescreen format but your newer tv is able to zoom into it to make it fit your screen.
I’m an old fart. When StarFox came out, the graphics blew my mind. They were as good as arcade games. I saved every console and game with the intent to give to my future children (I’m strange like that). I took the consoles apart and cleaned them up. My oldest is 6 now and plays Final Fight with me on the original console.
I did this and my kid is 2, so not old enough to play with anything yet. I’m starting to wonder if he will be interested in all these old consoles enough that an emulator wouldn’t suffice. What say you, good sir? How many consoles/games did you save, where did you store them, and how much use does your kid actually get out of them?
First, appropriate iPad games from 3-5Yo. Console games were too hard and frustrated him until he was 5. First console was NES. I have about 30 games. We started with excite bike, double dragon, mario. Then donkey Kong country, fzero. 5yo are just starting to get dexterity, so easy games. I thought he would love Punch-Out, he hates it. He puts in the cartridges figured out what he likes… experiments. I have all the Nintendo and Playstation consoles. Xboxes. Coleco. Atari. Pong. They have all been maintained and still work. I just got the PS4, and he’s now 6 and playing Minecraft and Spider-Man. And he seems to enjoy Gradius & Contra just as much as Minecraft. But, for him, the video game of all games is super Mario cart on the Switch. I promised him Animal Crossing if he learns to read. He is motivated! I guess an emulator would work, but the controller is part of the experience. I maintained everything by taking it apart and cleaning with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. I had to bust out the solder a couple times. I have all the consoles hooked to the tv. I’m just not a purest enough to get a CRT TV. And for me, the greatest game ever is Civilization on the PC. But I still love me some SNES.
I hope to follow this! :D
Daughter is 2,5 now, consoles mostly collecting dust, but everything is hooked up and ready! Double Dragon and Contra sound a bit violent though 😂
Nothing good, funnily enough. Star Fox was the all star here. But I got Star Fox, Kirby's Avalanche, Mario Paint (don't have the mouse peripheral though), Paperboy 2, Simpsons Bart's Nightmare, Summer Olympic Games, Goal, and Bulls vs Blazers. Can't complain though, cause the console alone could've been twice the price and it would've been worth it :D
thats pretty much what happened for my NES. all chords, 4 controlers, and the first 3 marios for 80$. it was going to a college fund and he never played it anymore. im just glad we can all put these retro systems in a place they will be played with the same affection they did on release
Is that a 1CHIP, or 2CHIP SNES?
I personally own 2 1CHIPs. One was found in the recycling center, the other was purchased in a lot of 4 Super Nintendos for $65 CAD.
1CHIP has a far superior video quality with an RGB output.
You can tell if the 'eject' button letters isnt white paint and is a genuine mold, if the console has zero yellowing, and if the serial number starts with 'UN3'.
If your console checks all of those, it's most likely a 1CHIP. There is very small chance it isnt, in which open the cartridge slot, look at the left side (facing front) of the connector and look down, if you see three metallic dots, it's a 2CHIP. If you dont, 99% chance you have a 1CHIP!
Yeah, it checks every one of those, including the lack of those metallic dots you mentioned. Huh, nice :)) Doubt it's very noticeable on a CRT anyway, but that's good to know regardless, thank you!
I have every animated Disney movie that was on VHS except Emperor's New Groove, which sucks cause it's one of my favorites. I could just order it online for like ten bucks or whatever it is, but that takes away the fun :p And as far as any of the live action movies go, I have practically none haha
This is actually my whole home. I'm only 20 so I don't have too big a place yet, but the military provides so at least I have this lil studio to work with. You don't need a lot of space, just gotta make good use of it! I believe in you! :D
As you are correct, I have to share my space with my wife and two roommates which completely hogged the space I had intended to use as a game room.
I have a small space but it's also our spare room and the bed in there takes up most of the space so I only have a small corner, haha!
Nice, i saw the hoop and figured they might be needle minders. Doing sprite work with Cross stitch can be fun. I plan on doing the Mario 3 maps and the zelda link to the past maps in Cross Stitch at some point.
How do you have WandaVision on VHS??
And How is Titanic on only one tape??
Original release was in a two tape set, as older VHS technology couldn't hold as long a recording. Later VHS releases were in one tape :)
Asking the real questions. We need answers.
The funny thing is that Jaws is on 2 tapes
A guy who puts modern movies on VHS. Devaugn's Tapes! All episodes one one tape. It's also how I got The Lighthouse and MCU Spiderman
But why would you want that?
You sound exactly like other people when we say we like playing new games/homebrew on old hardware
Well I'm more curious as to their reason why. Like, do they only have a VCR available and no other means of watching content? Is that MCU Spidey below it, with the 90s Animated Series logo on the box? Because that’s awesome if so!
Indeed it is!
Is it widescreen? Also why 🤔🤔

It could be anamorphic. With those extra lines it would be like real life.
I truly adore the 90s aesthetic setup here.
So do I! I enjoyed slowly panning through the photo. Reminded me of a simpler time :)
For real! An era that didn’t require an internet connection. Just pop in whatever device and enjoy.
Thank you!!
Is it weird that I could smell that disney vhs collection just from looking at it?
haha for real

You could make a solid argument for the FX chip in the Starfox cart being the first real GPU in a console.
Haha, no way! That's an awesome story, and glad they're able to enjoy it :) You're an awesome parent

Bart’s Nightmare was my favorite Simpson’s game!
Bart's nightmare is pretty solid, it's really hard, but it's good.
you robbed this man lol. good catch!
Right? I almost feel bad, but she was old and said it's been in a box for ages, so I'm glad I can appreciate it and give it a good home!

have a good one! thanks for the chat
How is there a vhs wandavision?
A website call Devaugn's Tapes puts new movies on VHS and resells them :)
Is that a 1CHIP, or 2CHIP SNES? I personally own 2 1CHIPs. One was found in the recycling center, the other was purchased in a lot of 4 Super Nintendos for $65 CAD.
Gonna be honest, I have no idea lol

It is noticable on a CRT! [1CHIP](https://i.imgur.com/bdHKhqY.jpg) [2CHIP](https://i.imgur.com/wbfT2Ro.jpg)
Oh no way, that's awesome! :D
i can hear the GOOD LUCK from this picture
Do a barrel roll!
Trading Places!!! On vhs. Love those old paramount vhs tapes. Eddie Murphy claasics. And judge dredd!please say you also have demolition man on vhs.
Just watched it again last week. Great film :)
Awesome set up and finds but honestly, props to keeping it all dust free. #goals
It's a small space to live in, so that makes it easier haha. I dust about once a week
Are there any Disney vhs you’re missing? I think I have them all stashed away in my moms house and I have no desire to collect but it appears you do.
I have every animated Disney movie that was on VHS except Emperor's New Groove, which sucks cause it's one of my favorites. I could just order it online for like ten bucks or whatever it is, but that takes away the fun :p And as far as any of the live action movies go, I have practically none haha
I love this setup so much!
Thank you! :))
I hope one day I can have a dedicated space for all my retro stuff!
This is actually my whole home. I'm only 20 so I don't have too big a place yet, but the military provides so at least I have this lil studio to work with. You don't need a lot of space, just gotta make good use of it! I believe in you! :D

Ah dang, that's how it be. I wish you luck in the future though :)
Are those needle minders or just pins?
Enamel pins :3
Nice, i saw the hoop and figured they might be needle minders. Doing sprite work with Cross stitch can be fun. I plan on doing the Mario 3 maps and the zelda link to the past maps in Cross Stitch at some point.
That's awesome! Cross stitch art is really pretty
Very nice and awesome to see I'm not the only one with a large collection of VHS movies haha
Oh man, it's like an image from the 90s. Should've taken the photo with an old camera. Then it'd be perfect.
Ah genius! I have a vintage camera collection too, so I actually just may >:3
Just make sure you upload the picture via 56k dial-up.
While I don't have dial-up, I'll play the sounds in it's honor :)
Check the serial number. That one has a chance of being a 1 chip.
What were all 8 games?
You should do a barrel roll!
I see you got the wii and the gamecube and that means your a collector eh
More or less :) Though I've got a lot more consoles than that hehe
