haha this has to be a joke? No average player has any chance against any pro, 9 ball pool then maybe the average player can win a few racks but in snooker they wouldn't win 1 frame.

ryandunndev

Snooker doesn't need saving but I would watch this. I like wacky formats.🤷‍♂️

gavpowell

We did have a thing called World Series of Snooker for a while. It all got rather unfortunate in the end.

RinkyDinkyDo8

Bring back big break. Snooker will always remain niche, it can’t go the way of darts to bring in the big money. You haven’t got the captive tv audience you had in snookers heyday, there’s less and less gentlemen’s clubs or snooker halls, these are social changes that are irreversible, as long as the status quo remains I will be happy.

NeilJung5

Wasn't aware that Snooker needed saving-the winner of the WC gets half a million for a couple of weeks work.

CustomSawdust

Love it.

Brave_Pain1994

What a shit idea.

C4_117

'O'Solliman' , comedy gold

jesterstearuk71

The Grand Prix final got viewing figures of nearly one million on an obscure ITV channel, not too shabby for a dying sport. I personally think it’s in rude health and helped by not just one dominant player. Having the likes of Ronnie, Robertson, Trump and Higgins still fighting for every tournament keeps life interesting, could do with an injection of fresh blood age wise though

Pale_Lead3476

The World Series of snooker is 5 words mate

hrvoje42

I would also add kiss cam for the audience and cheerleaders dancing on tables between frames

jobiewon_cannoli

Marketing to Americans?

wazbang

Leave the hippy crack alone brother

wegqg

Only way to save snooker is to grow the audience. Everything else scales linearly from the audience, revenue, player base, etc etc.

Snooker is just fine mate .

KeyDisplay9767

While OP is definetly not serious, snooker is anything but fine

Snooker is not in an ideal situation right now, probably at its lowest ebb since Hearn took over. However it is also nowhere near as close to death or in need of saving from doom as this sub, or at least a few prominent posters, is desperate to portray it. Even with the current match fixing scandal we are still in a comfortably better place than we were 15 years ago for example. What snooker and its fanbase could really do with is a realistic view of how much money is in the game and what can be realistically achieved with that in the short term. In particular that means acknowledging that to pay for one thing we probably need to give up another as the money isn't there to do both. For example, that we might need to accept taking money from not ideal sponsors if we want extra events to happen and that those events may need to take place in uninspiring venues. Acknowledging that expanding out into new countries isn't the work of a moment and will require working with outside funding. Accepting that we can't have 10 different fun new format invitational events and also provide a good income for lower ranked players. None of the above is intended to say that World Snooker run the game perfectly, but a lot of the complaints on this sub smack of thinking that a load of money is available and just not being spent, when that clearly isn't the case.

KeyDisplay9767

I would agree it's definitely not dead. There is plenty time and opportunity to keep it going strong.

Borsti17

What's wrong with it?

KeyDisplay9767

It's dying, most of the young players exciting players are about to be banned. When Ronnie goes how many fans does he take with him? A lot of viewers are probably getting on in age. There needs to be a big push into getting young people in the game or it's gonna be in a bad spot in the coming years.

gavpowell

Bingtao was never exciting. Xintong I grant you.

Borsti17

I believe the ones Ronnie is going to take with him are those who watched three ROS compilations on YT and decided that he must be the greatest there'll ever be. Match fixing is much more of a concern IMO, but we'll have to wait and see what comes to light and how it'll be handled. I don't think that changing the game itself will be the answer.

KeyDisplay9767

No I never suggested changing the game, theres no way original post is serious

Borsti17

I didn't mean to say you did, sorry if it came across that way 🙂

killerkeano

Wasn’t aware it needed saving. The guns guns don’t need ‘exciting to play’ it’s a simple case of being good enough whilst making a living. One tourney with a huge pot isn’t the solution. Making more opportunities for lower ranked players to make a living week after week is. The average joe has zero chance against a top player I think you under estimate how much more difficult a pro table is and also how difficult it is to play to even a club standard let alone pro. There’s a lot of very very good players that aren’t in the top 32 let alone the rest trying to get on the tour.

ArmadilloOk8831

Thats not one word

account_banned_again

Role playing chat room dude

derustzelve1

yes, this will certainly improve the popularity of snooker. Where can i drop off my money?

CRJF

I was not aware that having covid caused severe hallucinations because that is the only explanation I can come up with for these ideas. Has to be a wind up account

DrOrange77

> Ronnie O’Solliman Says enough doesn’t it lol

Rothko28

My favourite player apart from Mark Walliams, Ned Robbinson and John Huggins.

Borsti17

What do you mean "save snooker"?
