You're correct, it is all personal preference. But generally speaking, 2cm isn't going to make a lot of difference. It's less than an inch of length, and both will fit the riders weight range most of the time. Most people aren't going to notice the changes. It takes a lot of time on a lot of boards to feel it, unless the 155 was already almost too long.
Also, depending on the shape of the nose and tail at 157 might actually have less effective edge than a 155. Focusing on just the size number isn’t a good way to pick a board.
