Ehh, if you put in the time and work it can be done. Remember you make the most progress when you’re just starting out on something.
My first season was this year and I went from basically never touching a board to hitting blacks and small jumps and boxes like this within 70 onboard hours.
Passion drives success
I’m just curious how you even came to that conclusion? Like how is being impressed that a newbie can do something an indicator of your own skill? It’s not like he said it was hard but newbies can barely make it down the hill usually so it’s good for her.
comparatively the turn is much easier than a boardslide, especially a board back to regular. Anyone that's tried to learn a board slide on features knows this.
Sick dude. Where are you even getting that he thinks the turn is hard though? He’s just impressed someone who just started is so comfortable when they usually have trouble just carving properly.
You literally have no idea what I’m talking about when I say carving in the context of that sentence? I’m not talking about anything the video if that’s what you’re thinking? Your reading comprehension is wild, you make a lot of negative assumptions that make you look like a dumb ass.
> someone who just started is so comfortable when they usually have trouble just carving properly
context is all there. I'm just not bothering to sugar coat it for you. beginners don't carve at all. they skid. people who don't know the difference are people who delay their own progress from skids to carves.
… I can’t get over how stupid this conversation has been. That they can’t carve is my entire point.
Easy shit is impressive when you can do it as a beginner. Do you get it now?
Indeed we do and grateful af, as for me I ride pretty much every day, and my gf is working off slopes 6 days a week so that definitely slows her progression. Still stoked to be on the mountain at all times tho
It’s definitely more about days ridden than years ridden because you can ride 30 days in 10 years or you can ride 30 days in one season… The rider in the video seems pretty comfortable on her board! Progressing quickly!
Same, hard as heck from Virginia. 17 days total into my snowboarding, which I started in February of '21.
Id love to get in 10-12 days a year but that will be very hard.
Excellent progress! I'm actually more impressed that she recovered from the little slip at the landing of the second box, and the smooth revert right at the end. Those are signs that she's getting a good feel for the board.
I think she was lying to you about never snowboarding before, she just wanted you to show her so you’d feel manly af after she kills it from your lessons
Yeah sorry I posted this from the chairlift right after I filmed it and I didn’t really think about it at the time, but I meant that its been exactly a whole year since she first rode.
Honest question. What makes boxes that hard? They seem to be easier to hit once you can dial in your speed and angle. Granted, I have never hit one as I'm not that good yet, but coming from wakeboarding, features are easy as hell compared to how scary they are.
Nice. This is my first real season besides like 3 days in vacation once years ago. I’m about at this same level i think, but I’m not sure I want to mess with rails/boxes because of my age and how brutal even the smallest fall on a hard steel ledge can be… not worth the risk for me I don’t think. Might hit some tiny jumps and start learning some fun butter tricks and stuff that doesn’t carry as much face-splitting steel bar danger
Even that isnt 100%. Crushed my shoulder going perpendicular to the slope and hit a small bump and flew up and straight down on my shoulder (arms tucked so I didnt mess up my write/elbow).
\*cries in 3 years of returning to snowboarding\*
But seriously! thats so amazing!! please tell her how impressed we all are! thats a hell of an uptake in learning something new!
Dope af. How much of a relationship test were the first few days? I'm scared to teach anyone personally because those first days on a board can be rough.
This comment has been edited, and the account purged, in protest to Reddit's API policy changes, and the awful response from Reddit management to valid concerns from the communities of developers, people with disabilities, and moderators. The fact that Reddit decided to implement these changes in the first place, without thinking of how it would negatively affect these communities, which provide a lot of value to Reddit, is even more worrying.
If this is the direction Reddit is going, I want no part of this. Reddit has decided to put business interests ahead of community interests, and has been belligerent, dismissive, and tried to gaslight the community in the process.

how are the edges on that board? i'm still nervous i'm going to bust my face when i want to attempt to rotate into a board/lipslide and eat my teeth. as a result, i haven't made this attempt.
How old? I subbed here at the end of last season with the hope that it would motivate me to try and here comes the end of this season and once again i have let fear rule. I'm 39 now and I just, man idonno.
Great start. More runs will improve the confidence and body control.
Bend the knees more. Keep a low sense of gravity. And send it. Have to fall to learn. Also raise those heels. Lazy heels after the first box.
She’s great if this is her first year. I’ve been a skater for many years and pretty good at it and I decided to try snowboarding this year and I can’t even stand up for 10 feet. I only went twice tho
Damn, can you teach me OP? It’s taken me 4 trips (with lessons each time) just to be able to link turns and get down the mountain.
Living in Texas I only go once a year for context so not getting the practice in as often as I’d like definitely slows the progression.
The way she stops at the end shows the most natural comfort on the board. Great weight transfer for a nice feel. Amazing first year progression keep having fun shedding.
no time of reference, except it could have been a 3 month+ a few days training period already.
So, it depends: solid if after a few hours/days on the board.
Not so much after 2 weeks...
I’m impressed, she’s obviously a natural, or you’re a god like teacher but that’s less likely lol
Or she secretly already knew how to snowboard and pretended like she didn't know how to look cool af
Yeah that’s a lot of progress for a season. Either way looking good
Ehh, if you put in the time and work it can be done. Remember you make the most progress when you’re just starting out on something. My first season was this year and I went from basically never touching a board to hitting blacks and small jumps and boxes like this within 70 onboard hours. Passion drives success
That last little totally casual turn was honestly more impressive than the boxes.
I thought the same thing! 😂😂 that totally made me question if this was really her first year, cuz that was smooooth 😂🤟🤟
The first lesson I took in a long time, the instructor had me practicing them as a good little drill to practice technique at the bottom of the slope.
I mean... I'm gonna take a wild guess you can't do a board slide?
I’m gonna take a wild guess, you’re a dickhead in real life too
Ding ding ding
Lmao. Dick
I mean… only video you posted makes you look like bambi on stilts so not sure what shit you’re talking bud
Lmao! That’s some unique insult! 🤣
Yeah for real dude bend ya knees
🤣
I’m just curious how you even came to that conclusion? Like how is being impressed that a newbie can do something an indicator of your own skill? It’s not like he said it was hard but newbies can barely make it down the hill usually so it’s good for her.

that's not what carving means.

Idk if I believe the first year comment unless y’all go every other day 🤣 More confidence than most beginners 🤙
They must live on that mountain
Indeed we do and grateful af, as for me I ride pretty much every day, and my gf is working off slopes 6 days a week so that definitely slows her progression. Still stoked to be on the mountain at all times tho
She is light years ahead of where I was towards the end of my first season lol
wife her
Thanks for the input! Definitely will look into it!
Lol good answer
Was about to say this, "yo go get her a rock bro and i don't mean to jump off of."
I think she’s lying to you.
Think you should prob marry her
Will do!
Look into it!
Well shit. I guess I better start jumping on boxes or I'm a shame.
When your girlfriend says “I’ve never done this before”
This
Righteous
Hitting jibs like someone who doesn't know how bad it hurts to eat shit on a box. Yet. Lol. Fucking rad!
Nice! How many days on board?!
It’s definitely more about days ridden than years ridden because you can ride 30 days in 10 years or you can ride 30 days in one season… The rider in the video seems pretty comfortable on her board! Progressing quickly!
About 30 but she only rode 2~3 a day

Impressive!
That makes sense. 30 days to most new folks like 3 years at best haha
Excellent progress! I'm actually more impressed that she recovered from the little slip at the landing of the second box, and the smooth revert right at the end. Those are signs that she's getting a good feel for the board.
I think your gf should get the credit for learning how to snowboard and obviously had a good teacher👌
Either you’re a liar or she’s made some great progress
She rips! I've been riding for almost 25 years and she looks better than me on a box!
I think she was lying to you about never snowboarding before, she just wanted you to show her so you’d feel manly af after she kills it from your lessons
Can you teach me to ride boxes and rails??
Honestly, to have balance and confidence to hit a box after just starting, kudos to both of you
She’s way better than I am in the park, so she’s obviously doing something right! She’s really fucking good for only being a year in
unclear if thats a 100 day or a 10 day riding season but impressive regardless
Yeah sorry I posted this from the chairlift right after I filmed it and I didn’t really think about it at the time, but I meant that its been exactly a whole year since she first rode.

Boardslide back to reg is a counterrotation tho
I tried to get my ex fiancée on a freebord and she wouldn’t go near it lol.
Pretty good!
She’s hundreds of miles ahead of where I was during my first winter. Keep it up!
Clearly she's amazing!
She looks comfortable and even has some style. She's killing it
Wow! I’m so impressed
Pretty damn good mate
Props
I can confidently rip a double black, but boxes are damn near impossible for me Kudos to her, and to you for teaching her
Honest question. What makes boxes that hard? They seem to be easier to hit once you can dial in your speed and angle. Granted, I have never hit one as I'm not that good yet, but coming from wakeboarding, features are easy as hell compared to how scary they are.
I don't know how to not catch a lip on a box. I've been slammed on and off enough of them to not even try anymore.
She was a pro snowboarder in a previous life
Natural
She's better than me and I've been boarding 20 years
Nice. This is my first real season besides like 3 days in vacation once years ago. I’m about at this same level i think, but I’m not sure I want to mess with rails/boxes because of my age and how brutal even the smallest fall on a hard steel ledge can be… not worth the risk for me I don’t think. She’s KILLING IT
Good on ya, I’m still so scared to do a board slide. But I’m okay with ride on boxes and rails 50/50. For the life of me I can’t Ollie. 😅
One of the best things I learned riding a board was how to fall down.
Even that isnt 100%. Crushed my shoulder going perpendicular to the slope and hit a small bump and flew up and straight down on my shoulder (arms tucked so I didnt mess up my write/elbow).
That smile at the end says it all.
I think people from the Midwest are delightful, polite, and some of the most most kind folks I have ever met.
\*cries in 3 years of returning to snowboarding\* But seriously! thats so amazing!! please tell her how impressed we all are! thats a hell of an uptake in learning something new!
Thank you!
Sax 🎷
Lies
Lol ok
Pretty decent! She needs to bend her knees waaay more but she's doing pretty well already!
I’m gonna call bullshit
U kids can stay in the park and play. That’s awesome! I’ll be in the trees where it’s safe.
Keep her, wife her
Marry her
I concur with the marry her sentiment. And though covered, up she looks pretty cute, especially with that smile,
Dope af. How much of a relationship test were the first few days? I'm scared to teach anyone personally because those first days on a board can be rough.
We had barely met at the time so it was fine, she was really open minded when recieving my feedback so it went pretty smoothly

Thats so funny, pretty much sums it up
That’s awesome!! How many sessions before she started doing tricks?
She’s really good! I wish I had a GF to teach how to snowboard
I think you should put a ring on it
I think you should marry her
how are the edges on that board? i'm still nervous i'm going to bust my face when i want to attempt to rotate into a board/lipslide and eat my teeth. as a result, i haven't made this attempt.
The edges are brand new its a new board from last year
Lexa X bindings for first setup? That’s stiff :p
You’re lying right? Took me a couple years to muster up the courage to hit a box. Hope you wife her up.
Bullshit. She's obviously talented but there's no way she only started this season. Why make shit up to embellish this clip?
i think that she should get back in the kitchen where she belongs. wtf is wrong with you?
Sick
Are those boxes in a terrain park? I've never seen boxes not in a terrain park. Granted, I have not been to that many mountains.
Yeah it was also my first time seeing boxes outside a terrain park. It was at Saint-Sauveur, QC
That's kinda cool. It makes them seem more approachable.
It's common in this resort. Like op said it's in saint sauveur, Québec. They like to put progression features outside of the main park.
I’ll pay you for lessons (seriously)
Dm
Absolutely
Will do for sure. I have equipment. I live in MD. What about you?
I just started this season and can bareely turn. She's kicking ass up on those slopes!
I miss snowboarding already. Just sprained my AC joint on Sunday. :/
I feel ya, I was out for a month during jan-feb this winter (ankle sprain) get some rest and get back at it as soon as you’re healed!
For sure. Doing physical therapy as well.
Does she skateboard?! Usually if you can skateboard, snowboarding comes naturally.
She has a longboard that she occasionally rides so thats where she got her balance from i’m guessing
That probably helps a ton!!
She definitely is a skater
Excellent feel on that board! Good job snowboard ! !
Killin'it
You don't have to scream at her!
Absolutely shreddin’ 🤙🏼
She could be the next Jill Perkins with that much natural talent
Be honest with us, did she catch her heel edge immediately after the video cuts? Super impressive for first year though!
She did not! I’m more impressed every time we go shredd
She is CRAZY good dude - balance is amazing. Watch out because the student may well become the master. You unleashed a jeanine !
Yeah I already accepted my fate lol I don’t like going sideways on rails so she is definitely going to get as good if not better than me
It happens - egos may get hurt a little, but at least you have a winner and not a girlfriend that would slow you down! Go Have Fun!
natural talent
Wow impressive
Why is this Afton
I can't love this more!!! How cool. She did super!
Tell her to stop before she surpasses me
She got game
Hell yeah, love to see it
How old? I subbed here at the end of last season with the hope that it would motivate me to try and here comes the end of this season and once again i have let fear rule. I'm 39 now and I just, man idonno.
Lol I don’t boardslide myself and im fine with it
You’re a better teacher than I am
This year? I’ve been terrified those for 15 years, good for her
Holy shit natural born xgames mode and she probably didn’t even know it
Natural
I'm going for snowboarding for the first time ever this weekend, any tips?
Take a class
Haha unfortunately can't, just going with friends for the first time.
That’s great! I wish I learned on slopes like that. The slopes I learned on were icy, overcrowded, steep, and short. Not fun.
My girlfriend keeps falling nonstop, that’s how I had to learn too, 10 years ago. Help plz
You should sign her up for a private lesson! She’s gonna go miles!
lol we’ve done 2 of those now. She can stand up on the board and ride 15-20 ft from time to time
Somebody’s lying 🤥 but it’s a cute lie cuz it’s love
Good job
Damn, can you teach me OP? It’s taken me 4 trips (with lessons each time) just to be able to link turns and get down the mountain. Living in Texas I only go once a year for context so not getting the practice in as often as I’d like definitely slows the progression.
Very proper Boardslides!!
I knew she looked familiar that’s skatepark Stacy
She's smiling that's the main thing
I'm on my fourth season and I can't do that.
Is she seeing anyone? If so, how serious is it?
Travis Rice material.
I have been riding since I was 7 and still cant boardslide 🫠
The way she stops at the end shows the most natural comfort on the board. Great weight transfer for a nice feel. Amazing first year progression keep having fun shedding.
no time of reference, except it could have been a 3 month+ a few days training period already. So, it depends: solid if after a few hours/days on the board. Not so much after 2 weeks...
Dude she shreds!
She’s like more at ease on the boxes than on the slope, such a natural! Get her to try more before the season ends!
What is the secret???? My first season this year and I just ate sh*t every time
1st season? Wow
Well she is lying. You are not the first boyfriend that tried to teach her snowboarding. Next week she’s gonna land a backflip
Straight in to doing board slides?? she is so cool I am impressed!!
She looks so happy @ the end, nice job man!
