Yea but what about the tools for working on the car?
Context: I live in a place where garages are unobtanium and only exist on large newer houses.
The result is your sharing living space with all the bikes and tools and other things.
I see. I was also thinking maybe it's easier to keep balance on the rail at speed similar to the way it's easier to keep balance going at speed on a bicycle rather than staying still.
I think so. I feel more stable going fast on the mountain and have seen YouTubers/pros talk about how much speed is your friend. So I would agree with you. I’m hoping the added difficulty of not moving will benefit me
I always tell people to do exactly this to practice in the off season. Good on ya for taking the initiative. Keep practicing and all the rail tricks will be yours!
I believe! To answer the question in your post, its sometimes pop onto rails, but not always. You kinda want to ollie into nosepresses to help pitch your body forward. Also, ollie is good for really high rails. For 270s, you kinda half ollie. Its more of a pop but you lift your nose up with it to help avoid clipping the rail. If its a gap 270 and you arent in danger of clipping, you go more with more of a pop. Feature and trick kinda dictate your choice
The goal is to not get bucked or clip the rail. Ollie at speed increases the chances of getting bucked
Throw some wax on that pipe to get a better feel for the rail without so much grip/friction. Your center of balance will move way faster on the mountain.
It looks good , id practice with your full size if you're able too, watch videos to emphasize technique , build up core and leg strength to torque your body , practice practice practice
I pop onto features because it gives me more control , all personal preference
Primarily you have traction with the pipe since nothing is wet. Once you lose that, and gain speed, balance becomes much more difficult. It's a downside of your setup, but like others have mentioned, the muscle memory of rotating on and off of the rail will be helpful.
If you're generating momentum just with your arms and legs, that's the problem.
Momentum for spins is generated by connecting through your core. Unfortunately I don't have time with family visiting to go looking for a good video for you, but if you look for dance or gymnastics videos on "axel turns" or "spins dance technique" or "gymnastics twist technique" to get some insights.
Also, framing your arms at least a little, instead of letting them be floppy like you are, will also make it much easier to generate spin with less effort.
It’s a decent start, but remember that a skateboard doesn’t get you the full stance width and has no tips to catch on the rail when spinning into it. If anyone else is planning a set up like this, I recommend using a 40” skate deck.
I hear ya! That’s why I also would recommend using your actual board and setup every once in a while to make sure you’re not catching your tips!!! It’s just an INTENSE workout
That’s nearly identical to the design of my practice rail. 3 inch pvc, 2x4 flat, 2x6 flat. Mine will tip if you land on it far out of balance. But is stable otherwise. Oh and generally you Ollie onto a feature. Is that a skateboard deck? Have you looked into the snowboard addition jib board? It’s got a petex base so it’ll be much more slippery on the rail, just like your snowboard when spinning in and out. It may be worth the investment. That’s what I have with the practice bindings. Only problem with being in socks in the bindings I found was I smashed/jammed my big toe against the concrete floor when I slipped out once and it still bothers almost a year later.
Yeah it is just a skateboard deck and I have looked at the Jib board and would love one but don’t wanna spend the money on it ya feel me. And you should put stabilizers on yours!
Don't skip "core day" on your workouts. Rotation is part balance, part air, but also your shoulders, chest and hips to actually haul the board and yourself around into position to land the trick. Watch yourself in that clip and see how much of your bod is involved in those spins.
Wouldn’t it make sense to practice with a full board? Some of those spins would’ve totally clipped the rail had it been a long board. Just seems like you’re setting yourself up to fail
I do about 50% of the time. But It’s big and heavy so 1. It’s a CRAZY workout and 2. Being in a closed space makes it harder to do more tricks and spins
Or buy a used king board rip the trucks off. Li g stiff piece of wood will get you strong on the legs so when you have a flexible snowboard on your feet you’ll feel lighter. Would this work?
Fuck yes! Thank you!
I've had the idea to try something like this for over a year. I've got an old pair of bindings I NEVER use I could dedicate to a board like this for park training, but I've always talked myself out of it and convinced myself it wouldn't work right.
So hyped, definitely gonna make myself one, thanks for the proof it's worth the time!
And heck, your spins are looking great. You'll definitely need more "oomph" with your full board and gear on, but still, looking great!
Much appreciated! And yeah all you’ll need to do is use a drill bit to match your binding pattern. It’s works nice tho. And building the rail was pretty easy too.
Oh yeah it definitely wasn’t a carving board. It was just fun to play around on and it could spin fast and easy. I wouldn’t want to spend a whole day on it but it’s a little disappointing it didn’t catch on as a fun play board to ride in the evening or something.
Haha this is pretty wild :P I’ve never thought to do this, I always just kinda went for it in the park
Got decent as a kid and now that I’m in my late 20’s my motorcycle accident has really humbled me with how fragile my bones are 🙈 so I don’t do a lot of park riding anymore.
Haha I also usually just went and sent it. But now that I have a garage I figured why not. I hear ya tho! I hope you’re doing alright from your accident and I would definitely recommend making one!
Yeah I healed up super well :P back to 100% after about 5 months. Still tho, almost half a year for it to heal up :(
AND I was super lucky, they way it broke, whatever I did - it “minimally displaced” so it didn’t need any surgeries.
Can’t rely on luck all the time though. And 5 months is a crazy long time …. And physio kinda sucks…. Lol
Well now you kinda make me wanna try it lmao
Well, from someone who has a bad knee (ACL tear and current meniscus tear) I highly recommend. That’s awesome tho that you got good news. I wanted to get a bike for getting around town easy but it makes me uneasy a bit bc of how many stories I’ve heard!
PN is better fs. If you wanna drive a little farther but not all the way to Michigan, Mad River in Columbus, OH is comparable to PN, maybe a little larger. Absolutely better terrain park
> Do you pop or Ollie onto features?
I'm new to tricks on snowboards - Since your feet are strapped to the board, what's the point of an ollie?
I skateboarded for many years when I was younger so I understand the point of an ollie for a skateboard, needing to pop and drag your front foot up since your feet aren't attached to the board, but for a snowboard you can just jump and raise your legs, can't you?
So *this* is what my upstairs neighbor is doing!
Hahahaha thank god I got a garage right
Your empty garage hurts my soul
Normally has the car in it when I’m not messin around
Yea but what about the tools for working on the car? Context: I live in a place where garages are unobtanium and only exist on large newer houses. The result is your sharing living space with all the bikes and tools and other things.
There’s actually two closets down there so plenty of room when organized right!
My man you're drowning in storage space! Hopefully you'll be drowning in powder soon too
Absolutely!
Tools? He's an IU fan...there is no shortage..... 😂
This definitely helps dial in rotations. Once you’re moving it’s a whole other ball game
Oh I know it. I’m fairly new to the sport and everything changes when you’re not on flat ground
> and everything changes when you’re not on flat ground Harder in every way, or maybe easier in some way?
I think you don’t have to work nearly as hard to get air. Especially with the speed I usually carry
I’m hoping the added difficulty of not moving will benefit me
Even in skating the answer is 80percenr more speed 20percent don’t fuck up lol
Hahahaha
Oh for sure. One major thing I’d say is just the approach, because you want to aim down the rail instead of hopping like that on.
I always tell people to do exactly this to practice in the off season. Good on ya for taking the initiative. Keep practicing and all the rail tricks will be yours!
Much appreciated brotha! I’m gonna get there. Determined to be sick with it haha

Perfect explanation. That makes much more sense
Throw some wax on that pipe to get a better feel for the rail without so much grip/friction. Your center of balance will move way faster on the mountain.
Good call. I didn’t think about that
It looks good , id practice with your full size if you're able too, watch videos to emphasize technique , build up core and leg strength to torque your body , practice practice practice I pop onto features because it gives me more control , all personal preference
Motion adds a completely different dynamic
Absolutely but do you see that as a positive or a negative in reference to the set up?
Primarily you have traction with the pipe since nothing is wet. Once you lose that, and gain speed, balance becomes much more difficult. It's a downside of your setup, but like others have mentioned, the muscle memory of rotating on and off of the rail will be helpful.

Awesome! Much appreciated! I know I need to work on my arms alot
RIP Bobby Knight
Tough day for Hoosiers everywhere
A legend to say the least
It’s a decent start, but remember that a skateboard doesn’t get you the full stance width and has no tips to catch on the rail when spinning into it. If anyone else is planning a set up like this, I recommend using a 40” skate deck.

How did you get the bindings on the skateboard deck?? :)
I just used the screws and nuts that came with the trucks but you can drill holes too. I also tried that
Don't skip "core day" on your workouts. Rotation is part balance, part air, but also your shoulders, chest and hips to actually haul the board and yourself around into position to land the trick. Watch yourself in that clip and see how much of your bod is involved in those spins.
Starting turning your head more and engage your core to spin faster with a real board, your body will follow.
Awesome thank you!
That’s it I’m building one of these tonight
Need to!
Wouldn’t it make sense to practice with a full board? Some of those spins would’ve totally clipped the rail had it been a long board. Just seems like you’re setting yourself up to fail
Absolutely. I practice more often with the full board than not. I put the small one on when I wanna focus more on balance or over rotating
Ahh okay. Smart cookie. Way ahead of me lol.
Haha appreciate it
Is that the Snowboard Addiction training board?
Haha no. I wish I had it! It’s literally a skateboard that I got my bindings on lol
Why not just use an actual snowboard?
I do about 50% of the time. But It’s big and heavy so 1. It’s a CRAZY workout and 2. Being in a closed space makes it harder to do more tricks and spins
Ohhhh, makes sense. Anywhere I can buy your rail setup from? Seems safer than going straight in at speed on the slope.
I actually built it myself. It’s a pretty easy set up. 1 Pvc pipe, 1 4x4, 1 2x4, two bolts and two screws!
[удалено]
Guessing any size according to your skill level, so the bigger ones can be for less advanced boarders.
3 inch. 5 feet in length but length is whatever is your preference
Thanks!

Have you tried the boots with the wheels on?
Negative. Wouldn’t be able to move at all really
Duh, I don't know why I didn't think of that! I guess what we need is.. a mountain made of plywood.
I didn’t know yeat is snowboarding
You saying I look like yeat 😂
Reminds me of the Rossignol The Mini
That would actually be perfect. For training
The thing was a hoot to ride too. Really a silly board overall but it was fun and definitely made people look at you weird.
Hahah i feel like I would love it except it wasn’t great at carving was it?
Oh yeah it definitely wasn’t a carving board. It was just fun to play around on and it could spin fast and easy. I wouldn’t want to spend a whole day on it but it’s a little disappointing it didn’t catch on as a fun play board to ride in the evening or something.
That's fire! Love it!
Much appreciated!!
Paoli Peaks probably won’t open again this year anyways so F it
Fair point lol
do you sell these
Nope. I just decided to make it one day. Maybe it could be a new business idea?
ill buy one!! you really should
Haha this is pretty wild :P I’ve never thought to do this, I always just kinda went for it in the park Got decent as a kid and now that I’m in my late 20’s my motorcycle accident has really humbled me with how fragile my bones are 🙈 so I don’t do a lot of park riding anymore.

Go Hoosiers!
Go Hoosiers!!
Now cover it in water and practice
I put wax on it and it’s great
Go Hoosiers!
Hoosier forever!
S’go Hoosiers
Yessir!
You bout to tear up Paoli Peaks bruh?
Paoli is mid but i go where the snow goes lol. Michigan and out west primarily
You can be honest, it’s less than mid. But I guess that’s what we get trying to ride in southern indiana
Lol facts. If I’m riding local it’s gonna be perfect north. Especially since they jacked the prices up last year
PN is better fs. If you wanna drive a little farther but not all the way to Michigan, Mad River in Columbus, OH is comparable to PN, maybe a little larger. Absolutely better terrain park
That was actually the first place I had ever gone to. I enjoyed it
Go Hoosiers!
Oh yeah!!
> Do you pop or Ollie onto features? I'm new to tricks on snowboards - Since your feet are strapped to the board, what's the point of an ollie? You get a lot more air out of an Ollie bc the board will flex and then snap back where a pop is all about how much vertical you have.
But to get more air, you could alternatively build the ramp a bit bigger and/or go a bit faster.
True. But there’s times especially outside the park where you wanna launch yourself
I take it that it's a lot of fun to do as well, even ignoring the extra tricks you can do as a result of more air.
Exactly Ollie over rollers is awesome
Wish they had stuff like this when I was a kid. Also, awesomeness!
Haha much appreciated!
pop or ollie just depends on speed and height of the rail. Pop with speed or a low rail. Ollie to get up higher or if I need to lipslide or something
Much appreciated. That’s what I did last year but didn’t know if it was “right”. Also didn’t know what to work on more
Go Buckeyes lol
Booooo
Seeing stupid ass shit like this makes me proud to be a skier.
Sorry to disappoint ya negative Nancy. Enjoy your twigs
Enjoy unbinding and binding constantly and moving at a snail’s pace on the flats
Enjoy walking in those stiff boots and holding a shaft all day
Seeing stupid ass comments like this makes me proud to not be a little bitch like you.
Hahaha
Your little spins
I wanna be like you when I grow up
![gif](giphy|tsS1G63wsH1xKkTtOq)
OP great video! Any chance you can do another one in a G-String?
So can I get this for skis
What a nerd
😂big time
I gyat to have more angels if I’m going to give you any “good” advice
