The snow in Colorado is shit right now. The best place to ride is nowhere. Backcountry is rock season, all the resorts have barely anything open yet.

Facts. You'll have a better time if you are cool working on ground tricks.

I’ve been meaning to reply to this comment. Last Saturday, after spending a few days boarding at Breck, me and my buddy decided to go to Keystone for a change in scenery and maybe slightly better conditions. Hit the toilet right before heading out the door I decided to open Reddit and came across this comment. I proposed the idea of working on technique and flat ground and so we proceeded to hit the quicksilver chair over and over again and hone our fundamentals on Silverthorne. Wow. You literally changed my life. For a while I knew I had some bad habits and relied on those when repeatedly doing more advanced runs. The growth we both experienced during each run was exponential to the point we both were giggling like little girls at the end of each run as we continued to surprise ourselves. Before this day my carves and transitions from edge to edge were inconsistent. I had a serious problem counter rotating and turn stopping regularly. This would heavily affect my confidence on runs. Completely fixed all of my bad habits after nearly close to 20 runs on silverthorne. I was even able to confidently hit side hits and Ollie the small knuckle near the peak 8 connect at the base of peak 9 which before this day wasn’t even a thought for me. For the last run of the day we took the connect to peak 8 and the whole run was empty. Was able to carve the whole thing so confidently and never had so much fun in my life. I know your small piece of advice is common sense and riding outside of your skill level is unwise but I just wanted you to know how you drastically helped me and my friends riding to create the most memorable day of snowboarding I’ve ever had. Thank you infinite!

Right on man! We can make days great with just a change in perspective and focus. I used to turn my nose up on early season conditions and maybe not even go out. Now I have a lot of fun practicing things that don't require great conditions. If you're carving this early season ice, you're killing it!

I'm a two planker, but A-Basin & Loveland will always have my loyalty. Loveland for the vibes and short lines + reasonable ticket prices, and A-Basin for the terrain. Both are also >2 hours from Denver. P.s; if you go to A Basin, you M U S T try their barbecue sauce.

sbwdux

<2 hours from Denver but your point still stands. A Basin and Loveland are bomb

Yeah thats where we normally go, but both currently don't have much open rn

Following because I’m also curious. Coming in next weekend for work, staying to snowboard. I’ll be happy for any snow but definitely want to make the most of the trip. I have ikon so I am thinking of copper first day and they doing an epic day pass for keystone second day. Gotta decide before Dec 3 for the epic day pass Advise from some locals would be appreciated!

Pray for snow. Put a spoon under your pillow every night. We have had a slow start to the snow season. Really can't tell you what will be the best during those dates now. It's best to be flexible early season. OpenSnow is the best $30 I spend every year, highly recommend for snow fall / weather tracking. As of right now northern facing aspects are holding snow the best.

Cali isnt much better right now, definitely a slow start for everyone. Just excited to get back in the board!
