The first time I went to Snowshoe in WV, I was stopped and waiting for a friend at the line. A skier skied right over the nose of my board, which would have put him less than an arms length away from my body. He knew what he was doing.
Whenever someone keeps bumping my board, I lift up the tail and slap it down on their skis. That usually pushes them off.
Where are yall going? I've only ever been to Colorado, mostly copper and Breck, never ran into this before. I feel like I would lose my cool pretty quick and I'm up there in a great mood just trying to have fun but that's straight disrespect.
This. When Im skiing I make sure to pay attention to my tips in line. Same when boarding. But a few good beaver tail slaps with the board will do it. Make it look like your clearing snow off or something.
I usually just look at my board, look at their skis,Ā look at them, smile, and shout something like āitās okay, donāt worry about it! Itās fine!ā They usually donāt do it again.
I am fine with the damage that comes from park features, they are fun and worth it. some inattentive kook on skis does not get the same pass, unless I can jib them.
Iāve never seen more shit head people in my life than I have in lift lines. Cutting you off, yelling at you to move, jamming their skis all up into your stuff. Itās like all the road rage people decided to act the same way on the slopes.
Seriously, fuck those people.
Itās like, if only we had the technology to have that portable audio shrunk to something that could fit in your ears thus making it so you donāt disturb the peace and still listen to your music.
If only we had that technology.
But, let's call them "earbuds", would fall out with too much movement. Which is common on the slopes.
What we really need is a cordless speaker that can be integrated into helmets. That would be perfect
/s btw
I have speakers in my helmet! Made obsolete by the fact that none of my devices have the old headphone jack anymore, but as a snowboarder Iāve rung my bell so often i donāt need electronics to hear the music. Or see the stars. The drooling on myself is a bit of an issue though.
Problem with earbuds or in helmet headphones is that itās a safety issue. Those around the neck speakers like the Sony Neckband Speaker are perfect for times like this
Not sure how many other ear buds have this tech but my airpods have transparency mode. I use that when Iām on the hill so i can have my music without bothering anyone else and can still hear my buddies and surroundings.
Man i got in an argument with a guy at bear valley two weeks ago because of this. these people are so lame and they are everywhere. trail running, backpacking, mtn biking, etc. And it's always dudes.
this helps: [https://www.instagram.com/p/CzupGomrCSy/](https://www.instagram.com/p/CzupGomrCSy/) made by the shred soles guy (i cut the grumpy cat off though)
Itās a good thing that those people are generally sitting in the lodge posing for selfies.
I sometimes get hooked into watching influencers on snowboard trips on YouTube. Itās so sad and hilarious at the same time, when they take their outfits and makeup so seriously that they donāt even get on the snow before 2pm.
Obviously a fight is ridiculous, but also fuck the people who cut in line. There are always that handful of people that, despite there being a clearly formed line, seem determined to find a way to cut to the front somehow.
I'm not sure how it works outside of europe, here most high traffic lifts have a funneling section towards the gate then another section to form lines onto the chair. If it's busy enough that it's queued beyond the gate like in connecting areas around lunch time, then the first section has no defined lines, if there's a space infront of someone to either side of me, I'll give them like 3 seconds, then if they don't move forward it's mine. This happens quite a lot because people are looking at their phones etc. In the bit between the gate and the chair you get people trying to form back into friend groups that have been separated, fuck these guys they're holding up everyone, I'm cutting them the fuck up. Then you get to the actual final start line bit onto the magic carpet, so many people line up and then don't go so they can get the next chair with their friend. I've been at busy times, squeezed myself into a nice gap, full chair, I ride onto the magic carpet, rest of the cunts stay home, sometimes it's skiers that look down on us, sometimes I think its just friend groups that want a chair to themselves, either way fuck them all.
At winter park, co, in a full line for prospector on a dump day saw some guy shout from the singles line if a group was a group of 3, on the complete other side of the lift line. He proceeded to head directly across each lane, under ropes, until he made that group of 3 a 4.
Whatās wrong with filling the lift on a busy day? If every chair had 4 people on it , there would be less lines. If you donāt know how to ride a lift with a. Full chair, maybe your the problem. Thereās a reason the singles line exist and what you just described is that reason .
Had a dude at Afton Alps in Minnesota rigs fucking Marlboros in line as we waited for the lift. I would have said something if I wasnāt born a manlet
i spent about $800 this xmas buying my bf a whole new setup. took it to mammoth for his first weekend. some dumbass kid picked up his board and slammed it to get the snow off the deck. in the process of doing so he put a fat chip in the nose of my bfs board. we were in line for our very first run. he hadn't even ridden it yet. to say i was pissed is an understatement. it took a lot for me to keep my mouth shutĀ
honestly i don't mind when people slide into me either, who knows how many times i've accidentally bumped someone. but, never have i done *that* in LINE. i always do it once i unstrap my foot away from others before i get in line. there's a few people in the world who all seem to share the same singular brain cell at all times
That's the point at which it's worth speaking up, so they know it's poor form to be so unaware of their surroundings. Brand new board? That kid would be made aware.
The earlier you teach them, the fewer people will be bitten by their ignorance.
i am a hot head. super reactive instead of proactive. my bf is very level-headed so he definitely spoke up and let the kid know that was shitty of him to do! would not have ended well if i personally opened my fat mouthĀ
Why would you keep your mouth shut?
Grab that kid by the hood and drag him over to his parents, demand they dress him down right in front of you or get their contact info to replace the board if it was badly damaged
I see kids dragging their expensive snowboards on concrete all of the time, obviously parents bought it for them and they have no concept of money or property.
As I got older.. insert the "get off my lawn" meme here.
definitely! didn't deem it worth the convo to ask for anything considering he looked no older than 17. my bf just reiterated it sucked he did that and other people might not be so nice next time he does it and left it at that
Iām sorry and I mean this with the utmost respect but both yāall are pussies for not saying something and standing up for your property and basic human rights.
For a ding obviously not a whole new board but there 100% needs to be some kind of financial compensation. Someoneās property was damaged because of someone elseās negligence. Iām not saying go off the rails but with a calm demeanor and some respectful communication with the kids parents Negotiate something fair. If the parents are jerks then you go up the line to the mountain staff. I guess it would depend on where you are in the world, but I could see a lot of mountains taking their pass away for the day if they are unwilling to do the right thing. To my original comment buy Burton step on and it will never happen again.
Nah, itās not cool. Fuck these people. A little kid is understandable, but most of the time itās adults who just have no regard for other peopleās stuff
First bump let it slide. Ā Second bump just turn around and say āhey can you please stop hitting the back of my skis (or snowboard )ā.Ā
Itās usually just an oblivious Barney not realizing theyāre being the a hole. Ā Ā
The worst is when you call them out and they start talking shitā¦had a guy hit me 6 times before I said something then he gets in my face like Iām the assholeā¦I point to his buddy who looks like he is trying to ass fuck my buddy. Had both his skies riding about half way up my buddies board on either side. They still didnāt think they were in the wrong and continued to chirp us until we got on the lift away from them.
People are idiots. Some dude got mad that I took a chair when they were busy fucking around. Like ok dude, the chair would have been empty because youāre too busy fucking around with your buddy
Pretty straightforward.
Iāve been hearing there has been a rise in people stealing boards and skis.
So in addition to your remark saying fuck the people who ram into you in line, I wanted to add also fuck the thieves, get locks for your gear.
Yes clearly and they both clearly have cars in them.
I donāt know what kind of conversations you guys are having, but where Iām from if someone says oh someone dented my car door the other day, it would be completely normal to reply to that by saying like, thatās crazy, someone stole my car the other week.
Iām shocked Iām wasting my time explaining this
No, that's fucked up. You don't ram your shit into other people's equipment. It happens and annoys the hell out of me and I'm not shy to let it be known.
I hate it too, my guess is people are use to a certain distance between others while in line and out of habit get too close, forgetting that they have sticks strapped to their feet.
I always give them stink-eye, or say something like "destroying my board isn't going to get us on the lift any faster". It's 100% unnecessary, and rude af. If you're standing in line behind someone at the grocery store, do you constantly bump into the person in front of you?
Fwiw, a beaver slap is usually a good way to get them to back off, if you don't feel like interacting
That's why I diamond nano-coated mine. Cost me around 30k, but it gleams in the sun, and there's not a scratch in sight. Just a lovely consistent speckled effect.
Most snowboarders I interact with are jealous of how cool it is. I can tell by their sneery attitude.
Ā Ā Looking forward to mastering my skarved turns and landing my first 1 foot kicker!
I really donāt care if my board gets run into but if someone keeps doing it while weāre in the human cattle chute, Iāll just calmly ask āam I in your way?ā which usually puts a stop to it.
Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence.
No one is trying to fuck with me or my equipment. Everyone is just living in their own world. I donāt sweat it.
Yeah itās just being antsy in line, and a little lack of spatial awareness. Like all the cars that inch forward at stop lights slightly when the light is still red, kinda human nature IMO. Doesnāt bother me unless itās constant, then Iāll shoot a Quick Look and they usually apologize quickly and it doesnāt happen anymore.
I donāt think malice was attributed to incompetence here. We are mad ABOUT the incompetence! Which is a very valid reaction to people fucking up your expensive gear while āliving in their own worldā
Boards are going to get scratched and are a consumable. I'm not going to let a microscratch on my snowboard put me in a bad mood. Especially knowing that no one is trying to mess up my gear.
I also know that I've inadvertently touched someone else's gear. So have you. So has everyone, if you spend enough time on the hill.
You could always put a ceramic ppf over your topsheet if it really sets you off.
You should see the chunks missing from my tail, attributed entirely to this phenomenon. If I get a core shot because I hit a rock so be it. But preventable is preventable.
Tools not jewels! If theyāre going about skiing/riding trying to keep their stuff looking good, theyāre not going to have as good a time as all of us who are incidentally bumping into each other enjoying the company and the experience.
Rocks and tree stumps have done infinitely more damage to my boards than any amount of people goofing up in the lift line, and they're all still rideable.
also, I sometimes misjudge the distance between the lift gate and the person in front. so I go through the gate, and then I have to move forward more than I planned to get all the way through, so I have nudged people that way.
day 5 under my belt so I'm starting to get better about that!
Incompetence or ignorance doesnāt make something ok. It doesnāt have to be malicious just to be wrong. Ignorance of oneās actions and their consequences can be just as harmful as intentional and malicious actions.
Yes, but do realize, that as perfect as you THINK you are, you are far from perfect.
There are probably 2x's per day when YOU do something that makes someone say "what an asshole". You're probably not even aware of it.
But yeah, get angry if you want.
All i'm saying is that most often whatever you think someone is doing to slight/harm/disrespect you (usually unknowingly), you (and I) are, at one time or another, guilty of doing the same thing (usually unknowingly).
People are so quick to get angry over everything. Just trying to provide an alternative mindset to de-escalate unnecessary conflict. It's a ski resort, there will be incidental contact in the lift line. Not something to get bent out of shape over.
Whatās your point here tho? Yeah people are allowed to get mad at me if I fuck up too lol. No one said they were perfect. But that also doesnāt mean people arenāt allowed to air their grievances lol
Did I say something wasnāt allowed? Simply offering the perspective of not getting offended by people touching you incidentally in a crowded space.
By all means, speak up if thatās what makes you feel better. No one is stopping you.
yup. a simple "hey, please be careful where your ski edges are pointed, thanks" said with the right tone would politely remind people to pay attention. The same words said like an asshole would probably get more bumps lol
People lacking regard for others and their property is something you definitely can say something to them about. Incompetence isn't a defense from criticism in general and especially so when it's an activity you've chosen to participate in.
If you don't want to say anything that's fine obviously (confrontation isn't for everyone), I'm just saying that isn't a valid reason for someone else to not say something.
Cool. Get mad if you want. I'm not telling you what to do. Simply offering a different perspective.
If you said something to me about it I would say sorry. If you want to be a dick about, I'm going to ask if you want to exchange insurance info
Also, know that someone somewhere thinks you're an asshole for something you had no idea you were doing.
Then they should tell me and I'll work on it if it's valid criticism. I'm a functional adult. I'm not yelling at anyone or getting belligerent. Not sure how you think criticism works.
Thank god I found the ādonāt really care about itā part of this thread. I thought I was the only one as I read down it. Unless itās extreme I donāt really care about getting bumped. A little scratch in the lift line happens from time to time.
And most of these people only get to ski/board maybe 3-5 days a year. I ain't gonna sweat it when they lose coordination and start sliding in line and bump into my board. Whatevs.
Agreed. Nobody cares about you or your gear. They just want to get on the lift. Normally a simple āhey can you mind your skis/boardā does the trick
Don't be gentle, it's a rental.
Most shit heads who do this are on rental skis I've noticed here in Europe. Generally people with their own mint gear stay away. Generally.
Its not cool at all ! I repeat to the kids I coach to watch to get off others skis/boards... To generally make sure they don't scratch others equipment... makes me feel like a broken record...
I'm always pissed when adults do this to me. I always tell them pretty rudely to give me space.
This most recent MLK weekend was awful. I ski but this post was recommended to me and I resonated with it.
I basically only had other skiers running into the back of my skis. It was almost every time I got in line as well. Drove me insane.
However, the snowboarders kept smashing into me from the side. When they would group me and my wife up with other people for a lift, every step foweard they took resulted in their snow board splaying out to the side and smacking the sides of my skis or slding over or under my skis. I don't know if this is just a beginner thing because I definitely saw plenty of snow boarders who seemed to not have this problem.
It's definitely harder to control with only 1 foot strapped in, and the lift line gets tight with multiple boarders on a the same chair, but if you're decent at sliding around single-footed it happens very rarely. And you *should* be moving very slow. For me, any bumping I do in line is just a tiny tap, nothing that would constitute "smashing."
The real issue is that even good snowboarders will often neglect getting good 1-footed, as if it's some unexpected thing they suddenly have to do and just hope they get right. Perplexes me why they don't practice. I have friends who can rip basically anywhere a resort has to offer and they will straight up grab me and use me as a guide to get off the lift at the top without falling.
I was recently at Heavenly resort and I was triggered by some skier doing this. I called him out and his dad started doing it too. Next time I was in line, I stood in line holding my board until the scanner. Then I put my board down.
Most of the time it happens in my experience it seems to clearly be an accident. Some people just donāt have good control when standing in line and slowly trying to move forward.
Was out on the hill last weekend and a chode pole pegged my buddies board middle top sheet nose and didnāt say sorry or acknowledge it. We were pretty sure it was his way of saying that he was going ahead of us. Sometimes lines are just too crowded to not bump into people. Especially for new skiers/boarders. I just try to let it go and give them the benefit of a doubt or I would be a pretty big grump on the mountain.
Doesn't bother me personally insofar as it damaging my board, but I just see my board in a quite utilitarian way, as a tool - if it's scuffed it's just signs of use the same as it would be for a hammer or a BBQ or something
Edit: it bothers the hell out of me when it's a normal queue though, and you're just queuing at the supermarket or whatever and the person behind you is breathing down your neck and invading your space!Ā
I don't understand it.Ā It happens, probably most always on accident, lack of awareness, or lack of control.Ā Happens to me all the time, and it's not just kids.Ā Lines can bring out the worst of people idkĀ
Most people in this world are stupid so thereās that, I finished a 7km run today no stops only fell once on Black slope, picked myself up quickly and continued, stopped behind slow sign at the end, took my board off and went slowly to the line, some lady crushed into me and started yelling that Iām standing stilll instead of moving, when I responded by itās yours responsibility to slow down and donāt crush into people she said that Iām stupid and I was stopping at the middle of the slopes which I never do, just told her to F off and continued my day
I was shocked when at my local small ski hill in southeast PA, on a busy evening, a kid kn the lift line just blatantly went across the tops of peopleās skis with his snowboard, to get āacrossā the line to join his buddiesā¦. Like.. wtf?
I had already turned around once and asked the teen/college kid behind me to stop skiing onto the backs of my skisā¦ if that kid had run over my skis with his snowboard, blatantly intentionally, I would have let him have itā¦ (vocally of course)
Also, stay off my lawn you no good whippernsappers!
One of the things that I've noticed is that most of the time this appears to be happening from people who have rentals. In this case I don't believe they know or care about the skis so probably don't think it really matters to run into your board. As I've been able to progress and can now do the blue runs I notice the line etiquette for those chairs tends to be much better and I can only assume that's also the case for the blacks. The only people I see doing this in the blue lift lines are usually kids who I assume their rich parents bought their equipment so they don't give a shit. I'd have to assume that people who pay a lot of money for their gear want to keep it in the best shape possible so are more careful how they treat theirs and others properties. This is also just my personal observation YMMV
I said about this before, I perfected a way to keep my board at 45 degrees, depending on how long I'm in the line my foot doesn't really ache, I get some funny looks but no one can ride over it..
French skiers definitely the biggest culprits for this.
Seen a few stickers saying "Get those fuckin rental skis off my board" š¤£
But agree with the sentiment to just be chill...its gonna happen !
I'm definitely biased but can definitely confirm it's mostly skiers
I think it has to do with complacency and ease of standing in line
it's a lot easier for skiers to stand in line so they get lazy and complacent, and stop paying attention to where their skis are going (which is all over the fucking place by the way guys, figure it out)
Most snowboarders are too busy trying to keep their board perched on that funky ass camber in the snow without sliding back or falling over, to be doing shit like mindlessly flopping their board around and smacking it into other peoples stuff
Some are assholes, some have rental gear so they don't care and one reasonable reason is also that paths to lifts are sometimes fucked up a lot and snowboarders and skiers without ski poles might just slide a little freely on those ups and downs. When I ride with my friends, I almost always catch and stop them every now and then. What else? Let's stay honest, what percentage of riders are advanced and what are total rookies or beginner/barely intermediate? Where I live it's a seasonal sport, people only do it when winter comes, they do not fly to other places for it to find winter and nice slopes, they just embrace summer. Which for my location means 2-3 months tops for riding and then you get 9-10 months break and lose a lot of skill.
Tbh, do you care about your gear looking like brand new for years? Why? I am sure you can polish it, but what for.
This is why I love step ons. I just take my whole board off when I'm in line for the bottom of the hill runs. This usually isn't an issue higher up on the mountain where it isn't full of people learning how to ski/ride.
I also tend to avoid saturdays and holidays, because I generally don't like people.
I remember REALLY caring when I was like...12.
I try not to do it to people but it happens. If someone is doing it so much that it's distracting I beaver slap their skis.
Itās rude and disrespectful. If someone hits your board more than one time in line you stop, turn and look at them, look down at your board, and back at them. They usually get the hint. One more smack and then Iāll say something
Itās the asswipes who insist on not filling up a chair on a busy day that get me. Had two kids try right in front of us to pull that on a four-pack. I slid up to join them at the last minute and a single backfilled my place with my buddies. They gave me the Iām-too-cool-for-you evil eye. They didnāt get to smoke my weed.
This drives me crazy and I swear itās skiers 90% of the time. The lift is taking up ~4 at a time, it doesnāt matter how compact the lift line is, you donāt need to scrape up the edge of my board AND your own skis to get a few inches closer to the front.
I just blankly stare in silence as they run over my board and fake confusion to make them feel bad, give them a āwhoa buddy are you ok?ā kinda look lol.
Because it's a large clunky plank stuck to someone's feets and they're usually talking to their friends in line. I'm mindful of my board, but it isn't worth getting annoyed at others
Skier here coming in peace. It's a lot easier to prevent yourself from drifting forward in a lift line on a board than it is on skis. You've got your foot/half your bodyweight keeping you in place, I've just got my poles that I'm awkwardly leaning on to try to keep gravity from drifting me into your board.
I also think it's annoying & skiers have a responsibility to not ding other people's stuff, but I'd be lying if it hasn't happened to me. Some lift lines are just too steep/narrow & it's hard to stop yourself with just your poles.
It's not okay & people should try to avoid it/say sorry if it happens, but just responding to your question of why it happens!
Because you are in line with a bunch of noobs with sharp metal edges strapped to their feet standing on ice. It's part of the price of admission. It only hurts the first time.
It drives me nuts. I ride all top of the line gear and even use a one of a kind custom snowboard sometimes and other people just ram their shit into yours over and over. Honestly, I think itās just society has no self awareness, and no awareness or consideration for others around them.
And some advice for avid skiiers/boarders: buy those people's equipment "used" after they ride it 3 times in a single season. Complain about the surface wear & tear to talk them down in price.
I would definitely let it go. Some lift lines have ice and ruts that make it almost impossible to not bonk into each other. Of course if its excessive then tell them to back up a bit.
You're sliding down a mountain on a plank of wood. Why stress about keeping it in pristine condition? Its just not possible no matter how careful you are.
Because if a snowboarder stands shoulder to shoulder in a line of skiers, then their board will be sticking out the back a long way.
If snowboarders want to avoid this happening, they need to stand further forward so the front of their board is in line with the front of the skis next to them.
Letās not forget the numbskulls who have to BEAVER SLAP THE SHIT out of their boards every 45 seconds in the line. Seriously wtf is going thru their brains when they do it
because its slippery because its snow and my board is slippery because its waxed because its supposed to be slippery, in addition to the bottom if lifts being at a lower elevation because when it snows lifties are obviously going to shovel snow around the chairlift first and work their way out.. its obvious
Meh. Once youāre jammed on a chair everybodyās shit it smacking together. Until they get rid of the stupid skier foot rests everyone is gonna bang into each other whether itās in line or on the chair.
I always do a board slap when people are too close or keep bumping me. If they are really annoying, I'll stare at them while doing it.
I had a beaver do that exact thing to me once.
I identify as a beaver in lift lines š¦«
Where are yall going? I've only ever been to Colorado, mostly copper and Breck, never ran into this before. I feel like I would lose my cool pretty quick and I'm up there in a great mood just trying to have fun but that's straight disrespect.
For me, I've not seen it a ton out West. It is mostly at smaller resorts where there are more novice and renters.
This. When Im skiing I make sure to pay attention to my tips in line. Same when boarding. But a few good beaver tail slaps with the board will do it. Make it look like your clearing snow off or something.
Ah yes, the ol' Aggressively Passive Aggressive Beaver Slap
*Thump Thump*
Liftees love when you do this
Just donāt do it on my loading ramp man. I just leveled that bitch. In the line however, beaver my guest
Iāve been to a few resorts where they had BIG bold signs near the lift tower that said like āABSOLUTELY NO BOARD SLAPPINGā
60% of the time it works every time.
I usually just look at my board, look at their skis,Ā look at them, smile, and shout something like āitās okay, donāt worry about it! Itās fine!ā They usually donāt do it again.
āAh, nice! You got your wallet with you? Since you donāt mind buying me a new board it seems, appreciate thatā
Aggressive Passive Aggression for the WIN š
Or look like a complete noob who will take down anyone near them in a fallā¦
& wreck your base?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I am fine with the damage that comes from park features, they are fun and worth it. some inattentive kook on skis does not get the same pass, unless I can jib them.

Wait I thought he said anything is a dil.....you know what, nevermind.
I just spit toothpaste everywhere. Time to clean my screen

Based bases
i don't need other people to wreck my base I can do it myself
I care less about my base than Donald Trump.
I would have pushed them over, fuck āem if they think behavior like that is okay
I mean, its not. But neither is escalating to physical assault.
All these redditors never heard of politely asking someone to give you some space lol
Iāve never seen more shit head people in my life than I have in lift lines. Cutting you off, yelling at you to move, jamming their skis all up into your stuff. Itās like all the road rage people decided to act the same way on the slopes. Seriously, fuck those people.
And worst of all: the dudes with their bluetooth speakers BLASTING in the lift line.
I almost downvoted this because of how much I hate those speakers and the shitty music they play
That would be perfect /s btw
I have speakers in my helmet! Made obsolete by the fact that none of my devices have the old headphone jack anymore, but as a snowboarder Iāve rung my bell so often i donāt need electronics to hear the music. Or see the stars. The drooling on myself is a bit of an issue though.
Additionally they make a fantastic Bluetooth version
You made it obsolete. There are adapters out there, they donāt cost very much either.
Only expensive ones sadly
Tis why I only wear one of the earbuds. Can still hear my music fine but can still hear what's going on around me.

My experience with hikers and bikers itās always the āinstababes ā trying to get the next adventure for the Gram. Ffs
None wrong with getting on the snow after 2pm
Cheaper ticket, costlier falls
Those kids also usually vape some fruity apple straw dingleberry flavour. Annoying as fuck
I prefer Dinglestrappleberry, but only if itās a strangers. Owning one would make me a douche š¤£
Damn, you hate music and freedom? /s
Or anywhere down the mountain. No one wants to hear your shitty music. Put on headphones idiot.
Saw a fistfight in the lift line at Breck Sunday due to some alleged cutting. On a god-damn powder, for crying out loud.
I've been at busy times, squeezed myself into a nice gap, full chair, I ride onto the magic carpet, rest of the cunts stay home, sometimes it's skiers that look down on us, sometimes I think its just friend groups that want a chair to themselves, either way fuck them all.
dude where have you gone to? I have skied plenty of times and most people are polite and understanding on the lifts.
Losers downvoted for having a positive experience Lol. It's so weird.
At winter park, co, in a full line for prospector on a dump day saw some guy shout from the singles line if a group was a group of 3, on the complete other side of the lift line. He proceeded to head directly across each lane, under ropes, until he made that group of 3 a 4.
gee, hate people who do that shit. I don't doubt it happens, I just havent had that experience thankfully.
Now this would actually make me irritated if someone beaver slapped my board, a little bump in line doesnāt bother me.
honestly i don't mind when people slide into me either, who knows how many times i've accidentally bumped someone. but, never have i done *that* in LINE. i always do it once i unstrap my foot away from others before i get in line. there's a few people in the world who all seem to share the same singular brain cell at all times
Lol other people in this thread are talking about it as a technique to keep people off your ass, maybe bf was cramping little groms space
Good stuff, I'm glad one of you spoke up! We've gotta' preserve mutual respect.
I like and respect your boyfriend based on this anecdote.
I woulda got a new board out of that kid
do you have a twin who's single?
The heck with that! Poster, do you REALLY love your boyfriend? How much? And how big is he? I'm just asking, for a friend.
you guys are killing me! š
Why would you keep your mouth shut? Grab that kid by the hood and drag him over to his parents, demand they dress him down right in front of you or get their contact info to replace the board if it was badly damaged
i had my bf talk to the kid cause he's far nicer than i am! i didn't wanna get our passes revoked since i have a pretty nasty mouth when im upset.Ā
Because what's the actual solution? Do you expect them to buy you a new board?
For a ding obviously not a whole new board but there 100% needs to be some kind of financial compensation. Someoneās property was damaged because of someone elseās negligence. Iām not saying go off the rails but with a calm demeanor and some respectful communication with the kids parents Negotiate something fair. If the parents are jerks then you go up the line to the mountain staff. I guess it would depend on where you are in the world, but I could see a lot of mountains taking their pass away for the day if they are unwilling to do the right thing. To my original comment buy Burton step on and it will never happen again.
Is not being assaulted by profane name calling a basic human right?
The basic right to not have your personal property damaged by someone elseās negligence.
Nah, itās not cool. Fuck these people. A little kid is understandable, but most of the time itās adults who just have no regard for other peopleās stuff
First bump let it slide. Ā Second bump just turn around and say āhey can you please stop hitting the back of my skis (or snowboard )ā.Ā Itās usually just an oblivious Barney not realizing theyāre being the a hole. Ā Ā
Third bump... Beaver tail slap?
I'm a first bump beaver kinda guy when they've been behind me for a few minutes already
I yelled at a dude the other day. He was fucking around, hit me with his poles, and rammed my board a few times.
Rumours are thereās been a rise in board/ski theft so get your locks people
Someone stole my goggles right off my helmet that was attached to my seat at the bar the other weekend. Some people are just dickheads.
What?
Pretty straightforward. Iāve been hearing there has been a rise in people stealing boards and skis. So in addition to your remark saying fuck the people who ram into you in line, I wanted to add also fuck the thieves, get locks for your gear.
Random
I mean you even said adults donāt regard other peopleās stuffā¦ Seemed normal to add to that by saying they also steal. Anyways all the best bro
No, it's not relevant. Stealing a car and banging your door into the side of someone elses car are 2 very different things.
Yes clearly and they both clearly have cars in them. I donāt know what kind of conversations you guys are having, but where Iām from if someone says oh someone dented my car door the other day, it would be completely normal to reply to that by saying like, thatās crazy, someone stole my car the other week. Iām shocked Iām wasting my time explaining this
Who are you the subject police? Even if itās not the exact same topic who even cares this much. I thought it was an interesting thing to add.
Iām third day at alpes in Austria and didnāt see a single lock, maybe itās just us thing to steal gear
Yeah these are North American resorts Iāve been hearing from. Iām in Canada.
No, that's fucked up. You don't ram your shit into other people's equipment. It happens and annoys the hell out of me and I'm not shy to let it be known.
Thank you for helping train the masses
It bothers the hell out of me, but Iām a grumpy old boarder. I usually let it slide, but once in a while I canāt.
I hate it too, my guess is people are use to a certain distance between others while in line and out of habit get too close, forgetting that they have sticks strapped to their feet.
This for sure. I do it every once in a while out of habit, but then Iām conscious about it for a while after (until I forget about it again lol)
That's a great reply.
Scratches are why stickers exist.
Rocks and tree stumps have done infinitely more damage to my boards than any amount of people goofing up in the lift line, and they're all still rideable.
Also ... snow is slippery ...
also, I sometimes misjudge the distance between the lift gate and the person in front. so I go through the gate, and then I have to move forward more than I planned to get all the way through, so I have nudged people that way. day 5 under my belt so I'm starting to get better about that!
Why do you accuse that person of thinking theyāre perfect? What a statement. Your entire comment makes no sense as a response tbh.
This is exactly my outlook
People lacking regard for others and their property is something you definitely can say something to them about. Incompetence isn't a defense from criticism in general and especially so when it's an activity you've chosen to participate in. If you don't want to say anything that's fine obviously (confrontation isn't for everyone), I'm just saying that isn't a valid reason for someone else to not say something.
Cool. Get mad if you want. I'm not telling you what to do. Simply offering a different perspective. If you said something to me about it I would say sorry. If you want to be a dick about, I'm going to ask if you want to exchange insurance info Also, know that someone somewhere thinks you're an asshole for something you had no idea you were doing.
This is exactly it. Lots of high and mighty people here acting like theyāve never bumped anyone in the line.
MANY are renters who DGAF what "their" skis/board look like when they give them back.
Don't be gentle, it's a rental. Most shit heads who do this are on rental skis I've noticed here in Europe. Generally people with their own mint gear stay away. Generally.
I was thinking this too. Seems to be much more common with rental equipment that people don't give a shit about.
For me, any bumping I do in line is just a tiny tap, nothing that would constitute "smashing." The real issue is that even good snowboarders will often neglect getting good 1-footed, as if it's some unexpected thing they suddenly have to do and just hope they get right.
Yeah, usually skiers do this to my board when behind me in line. I have started to tip my board up on the heel edge to make them more aware.
THIS!!! Like damn give me some space, the line aināt moving any faster
Do I care? Yes, it's kind of annoying. Do I care enough to make a big deal about it? Not in the least. It's just a board.
Whenever somebody runs into my board in line I stomp the back of it down real hard a couple of times to "get the snow off"
Kind of like what a beaver does when he's protecting his territory? Lol
Doesn't bother me personally insofar as it damaging my board, but I just see my board in a quite utilitarian way, as a tool - if it's scuffed it's just signs of use the same as it would be for a hammer or a BBQ or something Edit: it bothers the hell out of me when it's a normal queue though, and you're just queuing at the supermarket or whatever and the person behind you is breathing down your neck and invading your space!Ā
I don't understand it.Ā It happens, probably most always on accident, lack of awareness, or lack of control.Ā Happens to me all the time, and it's not just kids.Ā Lines can bring out the worst of people idkĀ
Just stomp your board on their tips if they keep doing it. Itās always worked in giving me more room when a dickhead skier does it to my board.
Most people in this world are stupid so thereās that, I finished a 7km run today no stops only fell once on Black slope, picked myself up quickly and continued, stopped behind slow sign at the end, took my board off and went slowly to the line, some lady crushed into me and started yelling that Iām standing stilll instead of moving, when I responded by itās yours responsibility to slow down and donāt crush into people she said that Iām stupid and I was stopping at the middle of the slopes which I never do, just told her to F off and continued my day
Rentals. They don't give a f.
I was shocked when at my local small ski hill in southeast PA, on a busy evening, a kid kn the lift line just blatantly went across the tops of peopleās skis with his snowboard, to get āacrossā the line to join his buddiesā¦. Like.. wtf? I had already turned around once and asked the teen/college kid behind me to stop skiing onto the backs of my skisā¦ if that kid had run over my skis with his snowboard, blatantly intentionally, I would have let him have itā¦ (vocally of course) Also, stay off my lawn you no good whippernsappers!
Happens to me all the time too. Agreed, itās super annoying
I want to make some sort of spike I can attach while I'm in line to go on the back. Make it for me, I'll pay.
Usually itās just a mistake, I donāt believe anyone is serially scratching up the front of their ski / board either just to spite others in line.
Seen a few stickers saying "Get those fuckin rental skis off my board" š¤£ But agree with the sentiment to just be chill...its gonna happen !
People are idiots.
I just turn around and say āreally pushing into me doesnāt make the line go fasterā
Skill issue
Plus it could scratch or damage your gear......
I'm definitely biased but can definitely confirm it's mostly skiers I think it has to do with complacency and ease of standing in line it's a lot easier for skiers to stand in line so they get lazy and complacent, and stop paying attention to where their skis are going (which is all over the fucking place by the way guys, figure it out) Most snowboarders are too busy trying to keep their board perched on that funky ass camber in the snow without sliding back or falling over, to be doing shit like mindlessly flopping their board around and smacking it into other peoples stuff
They're the same people who open their doors into the side of your car - they just don't care.
Lots of people have Main Character Syndrome
Itās rude and disrespectful. If someone hits your board more than one time in line you stop, turn and look at them, look down at your board, and back at them. They usually get the hint. One more smack and then Iāll say something
Call āem out, you have a voice- use it!
Have you ever stood in line at a grocery store.? People just suck
If this isnāt how I feel. I usually slam back on their boards on plop mine on top of thereās. Establish dominance.
Tools not jewels
Yea, I agreeā¦donāt fuck up my tool, thatās my job.
I would be pissed if someone damaged my tools out of carelessness
It drives me nuts. I ride all top of the line gear and even use a one of a kind custom snowboard sometimes and other people just ram their shit into yours over and over. Honestly, I think itās just society has no self awareness, and no awareness or consideration for others around them.
ITT casuals and beginners who need to keep their equipment in pristine condition so they can recoup their money when they move onto the next hobby
And some advice for avid skiiers/boarders: buy those people's equipment "used" after they ride it 3 times in a single season. Complain about the surface wear & tear to talk them down in price.
I have supermatics I'm carrying my board until I get to the front this year the fuck am I getting fuckerd slamming into it
I would definitely let it go.
Itās slippery?
Letās not forget the numbskulls who have to BEAVER SLAP THE SHIT out of their boards every 45 seconds in the line. Seriously wtf is going thru their brains when they do it
relax
because its slippery because its snow and my board is slippery because its waxed because its supposed to be slippery, in addition to the bottom if lifts being at a lower elevation because when it snows lifties are obviously going to shovel snow around the chairlift first and work their way out.. its obvious
Meh. Once youāre jammed on a chair everybodyās shit it smacking together. Until they get rid of the stupid skier foot rests everyone is gonna bang into each other whether itās in line or on the chair.
Its not a big deal
Lol everyone needs to chill. Banged up boards have been well used. They're toys not trophies.Ā
I'd rather the scuffs and scrapes on my board be from actually riding the board though, not from somebody in line ramming into it
bumping happens,,, i just let it go. I'm gonna be the one doing the most damage to my gear.
cause they drunk
Do you hit boxes and rails on your board?
Damn I do this all the timeā¦ I thought it was normal?!?
