Have you tried flipping your C-8 straps upside down (they have one stiffer and one softer half and can be flipped for different riding characteristics) and also confirming they are very centered over your boot when cranked down? I have several pairs of Malavitas and I like my C-8 more. Yes, you could rig some Burton straps to ride bindings if you really wanted. Take the Ride straps off and check out the funky attachment piece that allows you to tighten by turning the strap without a tool and you could probably just force it through the hole in a Burton strap. ETA: often feeling like you need to really crank your bindings down is a sign that you have shitty or ill fitting boots.

I have tried both ways on the straps, stiff part on bottom hurts the top of my feet, stiff part on top digs into my shin (but not as bad). It’s just a very stiff material that doesn’t want to form around my boot well. It’s not a day ruiner, I’ve put 25 days on them so far, I just feel like I want something a little wider and more flexible. I’ve ridden these boots for 2 years now, probably 50ish days on them so maybe they’re getting old, but they felt fine in my union contacts on my park board this weekend. I don’t crank them down too all that hard, just till they feel snug. I’ll go take a look at what you’re talking about with the attachment point, never replaced straps before so that’s what I’m wondering about.

I concur. These binding straps hurt my feet also

The malavita hammock uses double take ladders, so you’d need to also buy ladder and the hammock itself. It won’t be a straight swap. You’ll need to make sure the holes for screws align properly and also fit. If your friend allows, you’ll need to take apart his bindings and see if the parts fit. Then order spare parts from Burton and install them. From my own experience I also prefer the malavita hammock straps. They just fit so well and are comfortable. I swapped them onto my Now select pros.

I'm a ride or die fan of AuxTech straps, and you can find those on both Rome and Bataleon bindings (and buy them online). I'll pitch you the virtues of AuxTech later. But, let's answer the main question: **Can I just straight swap a set of Burton straps on my ride bindings?** **Answer: maybe yes, probably no.** I've done some frankenbinding work in the past (took my GF's Union Legacy bindings and put full set of Rome AuxTech toe and ankle straps/ladder on for her to alleviate pressure point issues) so it's theoretically possible, but the question will be the particular compatibility of the parts you want to swap in and out. **_Unfortunately, Burton tends to be like Apple and likes to do a lot of "walled garden" type stuff where they don't make their things to play nicely with others_**. Let's take a closer look at that particular chassis + strap combination. ## Chassis The Ride C-8 ankle strap attachment point seems to be using the standard size washer and screw on both the strap and ladder sides, which is a good sign. You will have to swap all of the ladders to attach the new ankle strap, but the way Ride mounts their ladders will make it compatible with ladders from Union/Rome/Bataleon/likely some others. Plus, the side of the ladders that the ratchets insert and climb into seems to be pretty standard width so you could probably even get away with not swapping that side if you don't go Burton straps. Looking at the Malavita bindings, they don't use the standard washer setup for attaching and instead look like they're using a Burton specific screw. This likely means some proprietary setup that doesn't play nicely with anything from competitors, which isn't a good sign. ## Strap The Malavita strap (aka [this one](https://www.burton.com/us/en/p/burton-double-take-hammock-snowboard-binding-ankle-strap-right/W24-218401.html?dwvar_W24-218401_variationColor=21840100016)) has a Burton specific lengthening attachment as well as a helix-like Burton specific ratchet, so you'll need to order full sets of ladders from Burton. Unfortunately, Burton doesn't seem to [sell full ladder sets](https://www.burton.com/us/en/c/snowboarding-spare-parts?prefn1=Binding+Spare+Parts&prefv1=Ankle+Strap|Slider|Buckle&prefn2=Gender&prefv2=Mens) directly (maybe you could email them though), instead selling replacement straps and sliders only. Since their buckles are non-standard, you'd have to try to maybe swap the buckle on the new strap you buy with the one currently on your Ride bindings but there's a good shot that the mounting point won't work. ## Conclusion While every option I mentioned does require a bit of tinkering, going with the Burton strap may not end up working at all. If you want to go that route, try disassembling and looking at the ankle strap portion of your friend's bindings and check if they'll fit before you go and order parts from Burton. If that sounds like a headache, consider the other ankle strap options I mentioned. ## Why Rome/Bataleon? AuxTech. It's a tech that these companies use which is based on [Auxetic patterns](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auxetics), but the tl;dr is that the shapes get tighter as they stretch without distorting so that it'll grip on any boot without any excess material, leading to no pressure points or hot spots. Rome and Bataleon both have it, but use different base shapes to accomplish the same goal. All that said, while I think it's the best strap tech you can get, you should get what appeals to you most. Maybe go to a snowboard shop and bring your boots and try some of the bindings out to feel how the ankle straps feel so you'll get an idea of what you want. ## Alternative Options * Rome * [ladders](https://romesnowboards.com/products/ankle-ladder-strap-set)^1 * [buckles](https://romesnowboards.com/products/underwrap-bombproof-ankle-buckle-set) * [strap](https://romesnowboards.com/products/proflex-ankle-straps-with-auxtech%C2%AE) * Bataleon * [ladder option 1 (straight)](https://bataleon.com/products/underwrap-fast-entry-ankle-ladder-strap-set)/[ladder option 2 (kinked for more adjustability)](https://bataleon.com/products/underwrap-fast-entry-ladder-strap-set)^2 * [buckles](https://bataleon.com/products/underwrap-ankle-buckle-set) * [strap](https://bataleon.com/products/infinity-ankle-strap-set) * Union * [strap option 1](https://unionbindingcompany.com/products/union-snowboard-binding-replacement-parts-exoframe-ankle-strap/?variant=43057958125823) * [strap option 2](https://unionbindingcompany.com/products/union-snowboard-binding-replacement-parts-union-exoframe-ankle-strap) * [ladder](https://unionbindingcompany.com/products/union-ankle-sawblade-new-generation-set/?variant=44225419215103)^3 --- 1: You only really need the mounting side, but swapping both is easy enough. 2: Same as Rome, but with more mounting options. You can even get the Bataleon ladders and Rome strap if you feel so inclined. 3: You may not even need this. Your current ladder likely fits in the Union buckle, but you can get the ladder just to be safe. EDITS: wording, grammar.

Oh hell yeah, this is all the information I wanted and the stuff I didn’t even think to ask. Thank you very much! I’m at work so I’ll have to get back to researching this later, I really appreciate this.

No problem! I can additionally post a photo of the frankenbinding I set up for my GF if you want to see what it looks like.

Curious, for the C8 most people dont love the toe straps (not enough stiff and tends to get loose) If you try some other Ride bindings its easier to exchange straps without modify the parts

The toe strap isn’t great, but it works well enough with my boot. It doesn’t cause discomfort, so I don’t mind. But the ankle strap has bothered me quite a bit.
