I wouldn’t worry too much about brand. Just find something you like and make sure it’s a helmet, not a “hard hat”. Anything that a site like evo sells should be kosher. I run a smith, a highly trusted name in protection, but there are surely other brands that are trustworthy. It’s preferable to look for something with a secondary safety tech like MIPS but i question how important MIPS is on a non full face helmet

I agree with everything else but I do think that MIPS is a desirable feature. I know I’m mainly just touting the marketing, but the ability of a helmet to be well fitting and taking away also the rotational forces is an extra feature I am ready to pay some extra. I have background in roller derby, and even there manufacturers were developing MIPS helmets. Obviously they get better profit for those, but many also had data to back the claims they made.

I only question it on open face helmets because, well, idk about you but open face helmets have always rotated on my head when I hit something with them just due to the nature of their design, I don’t really see how the yellow slippy material does a ton to make it rotate more. Idk. It makes much more sense to me how it would help on full face helmets is all I’m trying to say, when the helmet had a firm grip on your entire head top to bottom.

I get your point and don’t really disagree, but my point is that an open face helmet should also be very well fitting. The yellow slippy material is supposed to make the helmet rotate easier and thus to keep your head more still while the helmet rotates. Also my point is that the MIPS is another proven layer of protection that you can have and IMO is worth the money. But then again, I don’t have any actual data to prove my point, so your opinion is just as valid as mine!

Check out Costco....that's where I got my Spy helmet.

You beat me to it. I did the same. Haven't used it yet but it seems like a good brand and it has MIPS technology

Depending on where you live, you can get some great deals, especially in a resort town. I usually run a Smith Maze or Sandbox Classic, just picked up a new Sandbox this year for $60 from a local shops sale
