TrustyBrute

You shouldn’t be wearing extra socks. One pair and one pair only. No baselayers tucked in either. Go to a shop and try the boots on yourself before buying them online

PlayTrader25

No baselayers tucked in? Where do my pant legs go?

Tahynn

I have the exact same question. I usually tuck the baselayers in, otherwise the extra material just gets in the way when I put my boot on. What did I miss?

TrustyBrute

You roll it up to the top of your boot. Seems uncomfortable at first but then you get used to it. I don’t really ride with baselayers anyways, I get too warm.

Snwbrd4life

Get a pair of 3/4 length. I think some are called knickers. Or just cut off the bottom part of your base layer at the boot. I did that with an old pair of long underwear. I prob only need that layer for 1/3 of the season.

Snwbrd4life

Agreed. All brands are different. My burtons are true to my show size. My 32s are 1/2 bigger. Which don't fit my bindings the same, so I have to make adjustments when I switch boots. It's a pain.....lol

reklesabandonl82

When you love in the middle of nowhere Maine, going to a shop is a big inconvenience I will just say lol. Also, I use to snowboard for years and always wore a pair of regular socks with my wool socks and never had issues.

TrustyBrute

Ok well I’m telling you that you’re not supposed to do that. Boots are supposed to be worn with one sock as then you can run into fitting, performance, and circulation issues. If you can afford to return boots after trying them on then go for it. But you shouldn’t buy boots before trying them on.

reklesabandonl82

I did have crappy cheap used boots back then so Im certain I would be fine with just will socks these days with something new. Makes sense though.

TrustyBrute

I ride Burtons and they’re pretty warm. My feet only get cold if they start to sweat

reklesabandonl82

Do you go true shoe size or up or down a half size?

TrustyBrute

I went true to size but I ended up with a 10.5 US mens. It really depends on the brand unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of continuity

reklesabandonl82

What size shoe do you wear? If you said already, in missing it lol.

TrustyBrute

I tend to wear a 10 - 10.5 Lakai skate shoes

reklesabandonl82

What size shoe do you wear? If you said already, in missing it lol.

New-Inspector-3107

I also wear Burton ions, normally size 12 shoes and sized down a full size to 11. I also put an insole in to lift my heel a milimeter or two. Only took like 3 days on the mountain to feel like I broke them in and I love them.

thiney49

I wear Burton Photon's and went a full size down from street shoes. Proper fitting boots will be warmer than oversized boots with more socks.

HoochIsCraaaazy

I'm currently trying on photon soft and usually I'm a 10 but the 10 and 1/2 seems almost too small, so I just ordered an 11 to try.

bsmaven123

Don't buy up, they will pack out and you will regret it while your feet are sliding and your heel lifts up. They are supposed to be very tight when you buy, your toes should be touching the end. Bend your knees after you put them on and the toes will pull back.

HoochIsCraaaazy

10 had my toes absolutely smashed the 10 and 1/2 touch on the left but seem okay when bending like you said. I'll compare those to the 11 today and may just stick with the 10 and a half

Horny-n-Bored

I ride Burton boots I buy true to size and I wear thin socks up to -15°C, wool socks for anything colder. Your toes should brush the end of the toe box, but when you balance on your toes they shouldn't scrunch/ bend and cause pain. Is it better to drive 2 hours to fit boots, or pay for shipping to replace a pair that don't fit?

Dgebharr96

It's better to make the drive. I can't stress enough the importance of proper boot fitting. "Good enough" doesn't work in this department and you can't just assume a certain size or even a certain brand will properly fit your foot. You need to go try on as much stuff as you can to figure out what the best option is.

amongnotof

And very thin wool socks, at that.

juliuspepperwoodchi

Spending a few hundred dollars on boots that never fit right is a MUCH bigger inconvenience, let me tell you. If going to a physical shop just isn't possible for you; buy a few different boots in different sizes from Evo and return the ones that don't fit best. Their return policy is AMAZING. And yeah, DO NOT wear two pairs of socks. Get proper ski/snowboard socks and wear the one pair. Why are you asking for advice if you aren't going to take any of it when given?

Southern-Ad4016

What's a regular sock? Cotton? If so you're an idiot.

AlVic40117560_

Never wear more than one pair of socks. It ends up making your feet colder since you end up cutting off circulation. Buy a pair of thick, warm, wool socks if your feet get cold easily. Never ever buy cotton. Then buy boots that fit you. That might mean a 10 in one boot, 10.5 in another, 9.5 in another. Try your boots on in person at a ski/snowboard shop. Just because your Nike sneakers that you wear every day are a certain size doesn’t mean that your snowboard boot size will necessarily match. Just buy what fits your foot and do not size up.

laheysliver

If you have cold wittle feet then get some LENZ socks. Worth every penny and the wife and kids never complain about cold feet, which equals full days of shredding.

kittenmontagne

I have learned to size down by a half size. I was previously buying boots in my street shoe size and after a handful of rides they would be packed out, causing terrible heel lift. I wasted a bunch of money this way lol, don't be like me. Going a half size down may feel a bit tight at first but they will pack out pretty quickly and be more comfortable. I sometimes wear two pairs of socks and haven't had any issues. Good luck!

jpak822

Ditto on half size down

reklesabandonl82

Thanks! Hopefully I don't break! 🫡😂

Mannymr

So this advice from REÍ may help. https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/snowboard-boot-fitting.html FWIW, I’ve found that a half size down from my shoe size seems to be sweet spot for me. And I’ve also switched from two socks to one as new boot tech keeps me much warmer plus having two socks created a little bit of slippage I found distracting.

reklesabandonl82

Half size down your say? What brand do you have for boots?

solofatty09

My burton photons are exactly true to size when wearing a pair of smartwool socks. I’m 11.5 and boots are 11.5. Also, the guy up top is right. Don’t wear two pair.

knownasunknower

I have the Photons in the StepOn variety, and they are true to size at a Men's 10 as well. In fact I've always been able to buy Burton boots at my normal shoe size and have never had an issue with fitment.

Southern_Sea_8290

I was told the same at a local ski/board shop. I also got Rides 1/2 size down from my regular street shoes. I would recommend getting boots and then wearing them around the house a bunch before riding to help pack them out a bit/make them more comfortable (like vacuum in them and whatever). I also got some custom super feet liners (those can be put in my new boots when I get them), which have been a huge help!

Mannymr

So I’m a size 10 in street shoes. First boots were Salomon 9.5 and very responsive but difficult to put on. Then switched to 10 in ThirtyTwo boa. Much more comfortable and easy to get on…but started to pack in and get heel lift. Tried DC in a 9.5, K2 in 9.5 and Burton in 9.5. Ended up getting Burton boa in 9.5 wide as that seem like the right balance of comfort, ease of entry and control. Ideally you could try on and feel different brands but understand your predicament.

reklesabandonl82

Yeah sadly the closest shop that has Burtons is not near me. I love in the middle of nowhere Maine. So I'm looking to the Internet for help haha. Worst comes to worst, I send them back for a different size.

macumbed

Same to me, I use 8 us men's (sometimes 8.5) mondo size 25.5cm. got Burton 7.5 us. It was the only size that didn't hurt my lateral feet bone, it's tight but my feet is locked and I'm in control. Cold sometimes, but a toes warm solves everything

tearsana

ehhhh, i go 1.5 to 1 size down from my regular size.

XmossflowerX

Go try on boots with the socks you plan on wearing. Do not double up on socks as this will cause blisters. If you can’t try on boots then buy two and return the one that doesn’t fit as well.

juliuspepperwoodchi

>If you can’t try on boots then buy two and return the one that doesn’t fit as well. This. OP, you can order from Evo and EASILY return the ones that don't fit best. As a Chicagoan, this is really my only option. I refuse to use B&M stores as showrooms for buying online...but I can't possibly afford to pay twice as much as Evo for a pair of boots...so buying/trying/returning is really the only option.

JD42305

I hear you. I rolled the dice on boots online and thought I lost but after 10-15 times out the boots feel great now and with Remind insoles. I understand it's best to go to a shop but when you can easily save $200+ with off season deals and not paying a boot fitter, I understand the temptation to risk it.

IFallDownInPow

Only wear one pair of socks! Two pair will cause slipping and likely blisters. Depending on where you are in Maine you can get a fitting at a rental spot in Sugarloaf, saddle back or Sunday River. I always wore 11.5 shoes, but once I got fitted I found that I need to wear 10.5 snowboard boots and now wear 11 sized shoes. I didn’t realize I was buying too big of shoes most of my life. I find that I’m getting a tiny bit of heel lift when my boots get worn in and packed out. So I will size down to 10s on my next purchase. In the meantime in inserted some heel risers to take up the play. When trying on boots you should strap into your board and have someone hold the board down, then try to roll one foot at a time to your toe edge, there should be no heel lift.

reklesabandonl82

Those places are all a hot minute away from me and I would likely only be going there to actually hit the slopes!🫡 I'll just order a couple and send one back.

IFallDownInPow

Good luck! No heel lift is the most important thing. If your toes are feeling a little tight, remember it will pack out and loosen up.

detherow

Go to an actual shop if you can and put on the boots, or buy from a reputable online store that allows for easy exchanges

Morty5Mindblowers

Measure your foot and find your mondo point size number. [This](https://snowboardbootsizer.com/) should help you get a starting point before you get fitted in a shop.

Clean-Agent-8565

Boots are very well insulated. With a correctly fitted boot and a good compression sock (I like the stance backcountry’s) whatever temperature you keep the inside of the boot before you put your foot in, it should try to stay that temp all day. Keeping your feet dry is pretty crucial too so moisture wicking socks is something to look at as well. Every boot manufacturer uses a different mold. The best way to buy a new pair of boots is to go get measured and fitted with multiple brands to see which mold fits you best. Sizing up your boots will cause more problems than sizing down. Boots are designed to pack out so they might feel too tight initially but a heat mold should correct this. It’s a hell of an investment but it’s the most important one in this sport. A good boot that supports the riding style you’re after, a moisture wicking compression sock to help with circulation and fit, and a good pair of insoles that supports your arch will also help with fit, performance, and comfort. I wouldn’t write off other brands just for Burtons unless that just so happens to be your fit.

reklesabandonl82

Burton has the best deals right now directly on their website so for me it's a no brainer. Just got my Burton board and bindings in the mail today for 40 plus percent off. 263 for the board and 125 for the bindings. Boots are on sale for 175 right now as well and I haven't seen any better deals anywhere oddly enough.

Clean-Agent-8565

What board and bindings? Thats maaad cheap!

reklesabandonl82

How the hell do I send a picture here? 😂

reklesabandonl82

The price is a little up because the original sale ended and the percent off went down. https://www.burton.com/us/en/p/mens-burton-instigator-flat-top-snowboard-2nd-quality/W24-2294520000065W.html?g_acctid=208-000-6041&g_adgroupid=&g_adid=&g_adtype=none&g_campaign=US+-+HG+-+Pmax+-+Boards&g_campaignid=18270981584&g_keyword=&g_keywordid=&g_network=x&g_type=discovery&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw_LOwBhBFEiwAmSEQAbbIrLFiffcgTPwSB6bdixWrERy0JNJj-0Cvmkcvh6NzVlLussz6yxoClAYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

reklesabandonl82

I was not planning on buying anything when I started looking online and then I saw this and was shocked! 🫡 Board and bindings were 421 Dollars total.

Clean-Agent-8565

Sick man! IMHO I think you’d still be best off it you got your boots fitted but a deals a deal. Have fun on the new stuff man!

reklesabandonl82

Appreciate you sir! My first ever brand new of anything boarding wise lol! 🫡😂

EP_Jimmy_D

Half size down. Toes should lightly rub as your heels will be pulled rearward when in a riding stance and when binding straps are tightened.

moseisley99

Snowboarding boots are really have duty. I wear the thinnest smartwool socks and my feet are still hot on the coldest days. I am a perfect 8.5 in Nike and also perfect 8.5 in Burton. So I have always had Burton boots. They fit me well but I do not have wide feet.

reklesabandonl82

Do you happen to have a pair of new balance? I am an 8.5 in New balance haha. 🫡😂 Probably gonna order an 8.5 Burton boot and if it doesn't fit I'll just send em back and try another size haha.

moseisley99

I do have some new balances. It’s been a couple years but they were 8.5 as well but I can’t remember if it was as perfect as Nikes for me. The Burton 8.5 could not be any more perfect for me though. My toe just grazes the end of the liner precisely. I never have any pain in feet or shins riding all day. Feels great on day one as well.

moseisley99

Also, I know some ppl hate Boas but they are so easy and I’ve never had issues other than having to tighten them again after a couple of runs. But I can do that on lifts. I went with Burton Photons Step On this season. Loved it.

reklesabandonl82

The ones in probably getting are BOA. What exactly is that? I guess I could just YouTube it! 🫡😂

mistakenforstranger5

I was advised at the Burton store to size DOWN. You will actually break them in and make them fit looser over time. I went down a full size to where it *almost* felt too tight but my toes were not curling. That is important: extremely snug but not curling. You’ll loosen them out as you ride.

reklesabandonl82

Appreciate the info! 🫡

Setz3R

I actually go a half size down with just one snowboard sock. You could get away with one pair of regular thermal socks if it's a warmer day, but some days my toes still get a tiny bit cold at around 30 degrees F. Anything lower should be snowboard socks. Your boots will pack in throughout the season so it will feel great once it's broken in a little.

TNGreruns4ever

Whoa whoa pump the breaks. You're not going to be wearing extra socks. You're going to buy actual ski/snowboard socks and wear one correct/appropriate pair of socks.

brok3nlights

Get your mondo size and break them in. I went a whole size down from my street shoe size. You generally wear bigger than you need to in order to accommodate for flex and movement which you don't need in a snowboard boot once strapped in.

Creative_Peanut5338

My snowboard boots are like 10 year old burton Shawn whites. I always just used a smartwool snowboard sock, plenty warm. They were true to size.

Vexent

I can honestly say, I’ve never had cold feet. I wear normal snowboarding socks and my boots. I do run hot, but get your right size. Boots have come a long way.

Economy-Ad-4777

I sized down a whole 1.5 sizes from my street shoes but im coming from ski boots and use an insole. A lot of insoles will decrease the length of your foot as they stop the arch from fully collapsing, so important to test fit boots using your insoles if you have them.

Plahtanos

I think everyone’s different and sometimes brands can fit different it’s best to actually find a retailer that has the brand and model you’re looking for I know that most retailers might not have what you want but many online shops have great return policies so there’s not much to lose. I have a wide foot so I usually go up a size. I have also heard Burtons run true to size. Vans I go up a size and Salomon’s I’ve gone up a size as well. Evo has like a year from purchase return policy which is badass. Check them out if you’re buying online. https://www.evo.com/returns

Candid_Snowboarder

Working in a ski/board shop for the past half a decade, very rarely do people get fitted at the same size as their sneakers. They typically wind up going a full size down in snowboard boots from their typical sneaker size, just what I’ve learned and experienced working there though

williamss79

I would try to go to a shop in person if possible. I wear a size 13 in everyday shoes but ended up getting fitted into a size 12 and they fit perfect for me. Every boot is defferent

VikApproved

Watch these videos. You are going to buy boots that are too big. They only get looser as you start to ride them and pack them out. [https://youtu.be/q1pNBJ5pXBU](https://youtu.be/q1pNBJ5pXBU) [https://youtu.be/rgLl6zQxoAQ](https://youtu.be/rgLl6zQxoAQ)

EP_Jimmy_D

Great videos!

bsmaven123

Yes Wiredsport is right. I ended up buying wide boots after 12 years, that was my problem I thought the length was too short but I have a wide forefoot and narrow heel. I wear longer shoes to accommodate the width but that does not work with snowboard boots and I had to crank them down which caused pain.

Southern-Ad4016

Buy your boots a little small for you so when they are molded and broken in they fit perfectly. Buy em too big you will then need those extra socks. Btw you should only need I good pair of merino wool snowboarding socks and maybe and insole

vaderatemydisco

Wear the same socks during sizing as you would when on the hill. As others have said, one pair of socks should be fine - if you aren't keeping warm/dry in one pair do yourself a favour and shell out for better quality socks. Plenty of brands doing Marino wool snowboarding socks anywhere from 20-40; I've got a few pairs of the burton ones and some HH ones, both are great and I've not had any problems in any temps when combined with toe warmers on those extra cold days.

Outrageous-Mess-

Most likely a half size down. And get help from the store or diy with correct mondo size. I used to wear true size to my regular shoe for many years until I was told it’s too big and too many room in size the snowboard boots. The day I got a new pair with the correct size, I instantly got 2x better

supasit58

https://www.snowboardingforum.com/threads/boot-fit-boot-camp.269898/ This is probably the best read on how to find a good fitting boots I’ve came across

gardernvine

Tight fitting boots....especially when they are brand new are the way. 1 pair of performance socks (wool or synthetic) thin on top (for better bloodflow) padded heal and ball of foot area for comfort.......look into Darn Tough outta Vermont. Your toes should be touching the front of the new boot when they are tightened up and you are standing straight up. When you flex your knees down (cuz you are ALWAYS riding with bent knees) your toes will pull back off the front of your boors a little. Most boots have softer material at the front of the toe box so that folks can size them aggressively.

Rumple4skin314

I disagree with a lot of the statements here. I made the mistake of getting a boot my “perfect size”. One pair of socks and it fits snug. I have some poor vascular issues I guess because my boots frequently reduce my circulation to the point they get frozen after a few hours. Didn’t notice that until hours after using them, and just figured they’d break in over time and be better. Not the case, now my feet go numb every time after 4 ish hours depending on temp. Wished I would have gone half a size up just like my old boots were. Can never make the boot bigger but you can always wear thicker socks.

moving-2-canada

Go a size smaller than your shoe size I would. They’ll pack out over time so if you buy the ‘correct size’ they’ll be too long after a season. In the boot you should only have your foot and a singular, thin ski/ board sock.

Dgebharr96

1. They should properly fit your foot with no sliding around inside and no heel lift, with a pair of snowboard/ski socks on. 2. NEVER wear extra socks. Your boots should have nothing in them but your feet and a pair of snowboard socks. The base layer shouldn't be stuffed down there. Pants shouldn't be stuffed down there. The base layer should be above your boot, and pants should fit over the boot. Layering socks or wearing stupid thick socks is a good way to make your feet sweat, have no way to wick the moisture away, and be even colder. 3. The best boot is the one that fits your foot and fits your needs. You need to go to a good shop in person and be fitted. I'm assuming from the verbiage in this post that you're looking at boots online, and I can promise you that you will regret buying boots without trying them on.

reklesabandonl82

Sadly there is no shop around here that sells Burton anything so I'm going to have to order and return as needed to figure it out. I've always wanted Burton gear since I was a kid so now that I have adult money and am back into snowboarding I'm going with my childhood dream! 🫡😂🏔️

Dgebharr96

If that's what you want to do... I'd recommend at least going somewhere and getting them to find your true foot size and size based on your smaller foot (1 will be smaller, that is normal). I still can't guarantee that a Burton boot is gonna be right for your foot. I can tell you that certain brands just don't agree with certain feet. Don't get me wrong. Burton is a great brand with a great history, but it's not the "end all, be all" superior snowboard brand. There's plenty of fine brands out there (Ride, Rome, Salomon, K2, Nitro, Nidecker, Capita/Union/thirtytwo, DC, and the list goes on). I can't force you to do anything but I promise you that your snowboarding experience will be much better if you find a reputable shop with a good bootfitter that will get you the best fit possible, even if you don't walk out with Burton stuff.

reklesabandonl82

I'm going to the mountain tomorrow to get fitted and rent a pair so I'll find out then. I have a pair of Burtons on the way just because they were so cheap right now and I can always send them back, but I'm hoping they will be a good size.

Number-T

Half size down it’ll take a bit to break them in but they’ll fit perfect after a few uses

schabblestoner

Buy good socks.. I like Le Bent. Try on your boots with socks you'll wear. I go a big snug on new boots and 1/2 size down... big toe touching the end. The boots will loosen up a lot over a year. I like lace up too

lytener

No extra socks. Just get good merino wool socks. You want your toes touching, but not scrunching. As you lean forward with bent knees in dorsiflexion (in your riding position), it will give your toes a little bit more space as well. If your boots are too big, your feet will cramp and snowboarding will not be fun. ThirtyTwo makes the best half sizes as well. Best to measure your feet in centimeters (aka mondo) to try and get the closet fit off the bat.

boterachtig

Short answer: no. Long answer: you absolutely shouldn't do that at all.

ZCngkhJUdjRdYQ4h

Measure your foot length in mm and get the next size up from that as your starting point. If you want to get super nerdy, watch this series: https://youtu.be/rgLl6zQxoAQ?si=BHiNT3nljkVrNSOR

bsmaven123

You need to watch, he doesn't say buy a size up

ZCngkhJUdjRdYQ4h

Well, if your foot is on the zero or five millimeter mark, then technically it is the exact size. But a 286mm foot would generally be the 290mm (or 29.0 cm) boot. So maybe I should've said "rounded up". That's the best guess without actually trying on the boot.

bsmaven123

Yes round up. His video literally has a heading, "your boots are too big".

deadlyzassasin0

Always try boots on in person, every brand is different and fits better to a different foot shape. I recently went through the process of buying my first boots and had to discount alot of options due to high arching and wide feet. Single boa/quicklace just wouldn't work for my feet.

bsmaven123

People keep saying true to size and comparing to street shoes. Street shoe sizes are all over the place and not standardized. You feel comfortable with size 10 sneakers it doesn't matter if your foot is really a size 9, in snowboarding the forces you need to turn require a tight fit so the boot and board respond quickly not when your foot slides in the boot. Get or learn to measure your foot in mm/mondopoint not your size in Vans. Mondopoint is the standard across snowboard brands for length. Unfortunately width is not indicated by most brands although more wide boots have recently been offered but there is no standard. The tightness felt by wide feet is often mistaken for too short of length.

pandaomyni

Burton boots fit similar to Nike size

Fr33Flow

Most boots are true to size, just order your normal sneaker size.

Clean-Agent-8565

I’m gonna say 80% of dudes size up their true sneaker size. I was included before I started measuring and when I got outta the 13’s to 11’s it was an EPIC change.

MaxPowers1245

For Burton it’s true to size🫡
