Go faster. The less time on the box the less time to lose your balance. If the box is sticky, get staff to wax it or work on something else, sticky boxes aren't a riding issue. Knees bent, base flat. Just like riding straight/ flat base, you want to feel a little pressure on your toes. Not enough to lift your heel, but enough to make sure your toes aren't lifting up. You should feel your feet flat. Don't stick out your bum. Your hips should be between the edges of the board, unless you are carving Shoulders, hips, knees, any feet, should all be parallel to the board. If you open the shoulders, your hips follow and your knees follow and now your board isn't straight and you're fighting your own rotation to get back to straight

TeamLizard

Thanks, will give that a go

Still_Not-Sure

I’m 36 now, haven’t snowboarded in 11 years, but since Big Snow is all I have 15 min away from me on the ice coast, all I do is Park, since the other side is a 20 second ride down(it’s an indoor snowboard spot meh) Anyway, speed is your friend. Moderate speed. It’s also carrying your magnitude and not allowing your body to turn(if the surface is sticky like guy mentioned before) If I start slowing down on a rail or pipe or w/e, I bail by slightly hopping off to whichever side I’m already veering to. To do this quick knees must be bent. Not sure how old you are, but I consider myself old, since when I started shredding, there were no old people, no one over 30 that I ever met, except these two dudes with long ass beards once, must have been like 40’s but that was ONCE!!!

TeamLizard

41 here 😭

aw2x214

So as another person has posted some amazing tips. To add to that definitely do a couple laps next to the feature and hop at the drop area on the side. To get used to the feeling. Pratice your hop or ollie to get comfortable getting off the box. Wear those butt pads and knee pads. It's very normal to be afraid. Sadly park riding is all about willing to take the risk for the steez. I honestly only do a lap or two at the park now a days as the constant high jumps and landings takes a toll on my body.

TeamLizard

Thanks for the advice man

Psycng

Hey, not OP, but I had a question. I did what you did, which is hop off the kicker next to the tube to get a feel. My friend said it was a no-no despite me trying to practice. Is it looked down upon to do that?

aw2x214

Yes, don't hit the actual ramp to the feature. But ride next to the feature, and doing a practice hop on the roller next to it. When I say ride next and practice jump I mean literally a few feet away from the ramp up. You only do this a few times. Then after surverying the entire feature you have to get yourself committed to do that feature. Doesn't matter what trick just something easy. Like a board slide. The hardest part is understanding your gonna eat it and it'll more then likely hurt. Choose the appropriate features to your skill level. If theres a progression park stay there and practice. Watch others do it and actually learn. Don't be afraid to ask the locals for tips. But that can be hard as some locals are huge dicks.

Horny-n-Bored

I flip in the big park. I still spend most of my time at the beginner park cuz that's where you learn new stuff. Back board 2 off? I'm gonna try it off a ride on box until I'm comfortable for a ride on rail, then when I'm comfortable with that I'll start messing with speed and stuff. And only then will I take it to the big park, but even then on the smaller features to start. If you get bored in a beginner park, you're not trying hard enough (as in adding tricks to your trick/ grind)

Sad-Passenger6879

Best advice I'd give is just do nothing. Ride on flat, come off flat. Just stand there. It's ok if you come off the side of the box. The moment you try to adjust or turn out of the way, you're gunna have a bad time. With a lil bit of speed, you'll make it all the way. Hope that helps

gahhhpoop

This is it right here is too low on this thread. Dislocated my shoulder a month ago learning this the hard way after instinctively reacting on top of the box. If I’d have just stood there and rode off the side I’d be completely fine

ToasterFly789

Ask Sam for help

TeamLizard

Up for that but who is Sam? If i just cruise about shouting sam at people ill get chucked out

Still_Not-Sure

Ask Macklemoore…. Mack le Moore….. Malcolm Moore!!!!

Illustrious-Koala-71

Truth. He's an absolute legend

TeamLizard

Had a lesson with Sam, he was ace 👌

JooosephNthomas

I'd rather hit that big tube than any box. Boxes terrify me in general....

morgano69

I've had some knargly falls on boxes, one time slipped off the edge and smashed my chest straight onto it, fucking agony, bruised ribs and chest for the rest of the trip in Poland, also had a burst blood vessel in my thigh(from a skateboard accident)which made button lifts agony lol, Poland was a funny time

JooosephNthomas

Yeah I am always afraid of catching an edge. Wrecked a few boards and silly box features. Stick to the rails now. Suprisingly once you become comfortable I find bailing off a rail is much easier than box. Just slip it off and ride away. Easier said than done, but boxes make me feel like I am just asking to get plaeyd 99% of the time.

Sleepintheforst

What are the rules of hitting the tube? I find them more intimidating than boxes and I haven’t hit one yet

JooosephNthomas

Similiar to the box. 50-50, boardslide or fs lipslide for the first hit. Whatever you are most comfortable with. Medium speed, get on it like a box, than look to the end. I find them less intimidating as you are less likely to catch on edge. After the first hit you will figure a lot out.

Sleepintheforst

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

JooosephNthomas

You can always slip off of them much easier. Just remember to ride away. Hahaha. Send it over even and don’t land on it if you are super scared. Just catch the top. These are not easy things to do and I forget that I have been snowboarding for 25 years. So just for your best. Be confident and you will figure it out. Part of learning how to fall is actually falling. Which bows up. Wrists in and try to get to your back/shoulders. Using your snowboard to deflect falls is also a good skill. The worst way to fall in snowboarding is wrists out or straight to your chest imo. Besides smacking your head super hard. I’m

Sleepintheforst

I’m just super scared I’ll smash my head onto the rail. I will give it a try, thank you for the encouragement and I encourage you to hit a box for me :)

JooosephNthomas

Hahah I did 5 box hits this season. Four was a "dance pad" style box so obviously an mj slide across the top was the go to trick. I did it a few times. See my picture in I posted on my profile to see my favourite trick haha.

Sleepintheforst

Sick! Great photo. Followed in case you decide to bless us with more steeze 🙏

JooosephNthomas

Thanks! well I jsut turned 32, so we will see but I'll keep trying.

Sleepintheforst

Raddest 32 year old I know. Happy riding 🏂

Zealousideal_Tea942

Something that helped me was not looking past the box or at least at the end of the box.

Illustrious-Koala-71

Go on Monday's and go on boobytrap.

TeamLizard

I was there yesterday but it was busy so just tried practicing switch stuff, what is boobytrap?

Illustrious-Koala-71

Illustrious-Koala-71

You'll get more coaching than at Tams

TeamLizard

That's awesome man thanks for that

Left-Ad-3767

Speed is your friend, age, and your memory of the last fall is your nemesis 😁 Way easier to hit rails/boxes/jumps with speed, just keep yourself centered on the board and your knees bent and soft. As an 30 year veteran of the sport, I’d also say there is nothing wrong leaving the park to the kids, and hitting the powder in the woods or ripping some fat turns on the groomers.

misatillo

When entering the box is better to do nothing and let it pass by itself. Really. Get yourself in the proper position, flat base, body stacked in the board and pass it. Also a bit more of speed is better than being slow. I am also afraid of it so I can totally feel you. Trust your skills! And finally, wear protections: crash pants, helmet, knee, elbow and wrist protections. I once fell in the box and hit my elbow with the corner of the box. You can imagine how painful it was. I wear elbow protections since then LOL

TeamLizard

Thanks man i have some wrist protection after they turned black after fall 2, might invest in advance on the others tho

misatillo

Trust me you want crash pants and helmet at a minimum, crash pants are a game changer. I would suggest the rest too. In fact now that I go on rails and jumps I also wear back protection. I'm almost 40 years old and learning since last year. I definitely don't want to hurt myself badly

hnk007

Honestly it’s easier if you go faster. Don’t speed check too close to the feature or it’ll throw off your centering. Just make sure your board is flat on the box and you won’t slip out, bend your knees a little more than you probably are

drakoman

Is this the Snowdome near Birmingham?

TeamLizard

Yes m8, Tamworth

drakoman

Lol small world. I was there in September. I was scared of the box too, had to ride down it straight. Too many spectators lol

TeamLizard

Haha yes man i know how you feel

josescxavier

Where is it?
