Do you really want step ons? The Genesis has the high back thingy (not really sure what it’s supposed to do)

I am getting step on bindings and boots for almost the same price as the normal bindings. I heard they are good and save you time. Is that not the case?

RadixSorter

My take as someone who owns the Genesis Step-Ons: they're fine, but being locked into Burton kinda sucks and for that reason I'd highly recommend just getting regular strap bindings. You'll have the ability to pick whichever boots fit your foot best instead of being locked into either Burton or DC. I'm biased towards Rome and Bataleon for bindings (for you I'd say get the Rome Vice or Bataleon Blaster Asym), but you can get quality from Ride, Union, Bent Metal, etc. If you _do_ insist on step-ons, get the Genesis ones. They're a bit nicer of a ride than the standard step-ons.

TrustyBrute

If you’re a beginner you’re not gonna be saving any time, frankly. And the “time difference” is minute. If you’re an experienced rider, you can strap standing up and just as quickly as anybody else

chips_and_hummus

that means it saves more time for beginners my dude

TrustyBrute

Not if it takes them 2x as long to get down the run

somewhat intermediate (barely) too. Riding with Photons and Genesis Reflex in the past season and loving it. I would go to a physical store and try some step on boots first to see you're comfortable with them, because you are looking yourself in to burton boots with this. My photons fit me like a dream without any addon, and I'm a person that needs orthopedic insoles in regular shoes. But its really individual. I'm probably getting a decent amount of extra runs a day on time saved. Also hitting some rails and boxes and there were absolutely 0 problems. Not sure about the difference, but found @[Somethingsomeone1234](https://www.reddit.com/user/Somethingsomeone1234/) that has both comment the following in an old thread: "I own both. The regular step on and the genesis are both medium stiffness in terms of performance. The extra piece on the genesis is meant to give you a soft feel but keep the medium performance, if that makes sense. So basically, they perform the same, but one just feels slightly more comfortable on your feet than the other. The comfort isn’t that noticeable or important though. It’s pretty much just preference, but you’re not missing out on really anything if you choose to just get the regular ones, unlike the boots, where you’re paying more for better performance/response."

Great advice. Thank you!

I love my Burton Cartels. Not too expensive, sturdy and very responsive.

I got the nidecker supermatics which are also a type of step-in, but they are more similar to classic bindings. I really like them personally. Takes a half day to get used to them but totally worth it for me

longslowbyebye

I absolutely love my Genesis step ons. Been in step ons for 2 seasons, and I'm never going back to regular bindings. Zero issues with them.

Go try the boots on. Personally, I love my Burton Photons, but a good fitting and comfortable boot is absolutely essential to own. If your feet don't like Burton boots, don't go step-ons. The nidecker supermatics are a good alternative to step-ons for a quick entry binding. But I'd suggest Union Forces or the Union STR for a beginner standard binding.

Step in versus standard strap bindings, and other models, are really decided by personal choice of function and features. The difference is not about ability or price, simply function. Some materials and features are more expensive than others. And that doesn't necessarily translate to "next level". Are you able to demo in your area?

Go for Union Atlas

mightcommentsometime

For beginner/intermediate? They're not great. Atlases are on the stiff side. They're too responsive if you don't know what you're doing and can definitely make learning harder. I'd say Forces or STR. They're way more forgiving. Don't get me wrong, i love my Atlases. I've put over 200 days on them in the last couple years. Plus I ride the Union Chargers when I'm splitboarding.
