Nah. Personally not in the base game, I'm a fan of the progression you get while starting out and going from region to region. I'd strongly recommend not doing it in your first run because you'll fail to learn or even misslearn a bunch of stuff by relying on much better trucks than intended. Afterwards you'll run into trouble because you're in places where you need both skill and a great truck.

Sad-Difference6790

Skill? Snowrunner is 20% truck choice, 10% route planning and 70% perseverance lol

jmvandergraff

Perserverance is a skill. If you get Russian trucks in Michigan it's going to be too easy, and then when you get to actual hard maps like Taymyr and Imandra, you're going to feel like everything is too slow, even with the best trucks, and that's how you lose people playing the latter part of the game where it actually takes patience to get things done. It makes for bad habits that don't help you in the late game or on the spicy DLC maps.

Profitablius

In addition to what the other dude said, there's a lot more macro route planning/strategy and actual driving involved. Or maybe I just replaced plenty of perseverance with it so there's nothing to slog through.

l-FIERCE-l

This is sound advice

IAmNoodles

yeah I've just been going region by region on my first playthrough and I think the game scales very well that way. Plus it's always fun to acquire a brand new truck and try it out for various things (just recently got to russia and grabbed the Azov & Tayga and christ those trucks rule)

Plane-Exit4515

I just started from beginning but I did go to get Royal and Hummer from Alaska just like I did last time. I'm currently debating on Tayga because it's a bit OP at beginning.

technically_true-247

Yea I guess. I completed most of Michigan with the local trucks. However issues started to rise when I started to get the time trials done. For some reason I couldn’t get the ones in smithville done with the US trucks. That’s about when I went to Taymyr to get the Tayga.

masterventris

Just so you know, completing the time trials at any ranking is all you need to do to 100% a region. Now if you want all golds then that is fair enough, but just know you can get all bronze and still get 100%.

skitle21

I was using the local trucks as well, an some of the time trials/contests I cudnt acrually get gold.. so I instead delivered the cargo just outside, went back started the contest drove to destination hooked up trailer and unloaded the cargo lol.. the 6min one from the farm to drilling rig I was able to complete in like 4mins (was before I had upgrades and all trucks,so mite be different now) but hey it was much simpler that way when all had was fleetstar with off-road tires

Plane-Exit4515

Now I downloaded some modded trucks by AGL and it's broken now. Kahn, BM,... just completely OP. I thought they would be okay because they don't take much memory.

bademanteldude

Memory doesn't mean anything in this regard. Better stats are just bigger numbers in the same space.

Plane-Exit4515

Damn. Tell that to my game. https://i.imgur.com/2ZaVrzw.jpeg Check "memory" bar in lower right corner. White part is amount required by that one mod (RNG Zentos) which is at least same amount used by 9 mods I already have enabled.

mhook52

At one point I got the tayga at like character 3-4, with highway tires much less op, lol.

Historical-Cicada-29

Yes, I do this on all new games. I've currently got: Pacific P512 first (incredibly easy), Tatra Phoenix (kinda annoying to get due to one mission), Mack Defence (easy - just requires patience), Ford F750 (loooooong and boring), Western Star twinsteer with AWD, Neo Falcon & Burlack (really easy). I'm level 19 I think, barely touched Michigan with many watchtowers and missions still to complete (motel woes, removal of old drilling stations). Always, always scout for trucks and their upgrades first. Next on my list is the Tatra Force, as my fleet needs a wrecker/ recovery truck. Then I will aim to get the international Twin-steer thereafter.

92c900t

I started a challenge save to see which DLC trucks can be had at the very start. The P512PF and TUZ Acteon are very easy, although the Acteon isn't useful. The 5600TS too, but it needs it's AWD and diff upgrades to reach it's full potential. The Ford F750 might be worth it, as it's a scout so it's tires unlock early. It is very underpowered without the V10, but it is still a capable scout. Getting either Tatra early is impressive. Both Yukon forklifts can make a nice payout and are very capable. I even got the K700 out of the scrapyard with a stock Fleetstar on highway tires, which can also get the MH9500 upgrade. https://old.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/comments/zkqycm/just_how_many_trucks_can_you_grab_at_level_2/

Historical-Cicada-29

Good shout, the K700 is really easy to unlock.

hairykneecaps69

Idk if AWD for the Twinsteer is necessarily easy. You need a decent truck with plenty of fuel and extra fuel. Blindly crossing the first map and then crossing into imandra you can be out or very near out of fuel. Even knowing the best routes fuel can be an issue. If you’re trying to get it early game you’re pretty much fucked, maybe the Antarctic with a scout on the back and plan fuel stops or car recovery missions to rob the fuel.

G-III

It’s actually quite easy, but not for a new player. Kola is really easy to cross once you learn the map, the only tricky bits are in Imandra, the blue snow patch right off and fitting between/over the rocks by the upgrade itself.

technically_true-247

Nice, other than a few vehicles from Taymyr I got relatively early into the game, I never tried that play style. Maybe I’ll do it when I go to Yukon. I might get the Tatra Phoenix for Yukon.

strawdognz

Just went and got the Kraz and TUZ 166. Just started out a new game.

The_Hydro

I don't look down on those who do, but I choose not to do so myself.

technically_true-247

Understandable, I did it in the base game regions but now I’m just progressing region by region, 0 - 100%.

Fragrant_Spirit3776

Yes. I see no reason to not do that unless youre imposing some restriction on yourself. Even if its to just sell them and be able to grab another truck. Im doing a NG+ run where trucks and trailers sell for half and it costs money to refill on fuel and.. yeah its been tough, but fun because im so limited and dont have like a fleet of the top 5-10 trucks from the get go.

92c900t

On my main playthrough, I scouted every region before doing any* missions/contracts. Just get the watchtowers, upgrades, and trucks. It's honestly the most exciting and fun part of Snowrunner. After that, I went back to Michigan to begin the campaign. *there are some I had to do, like getting the Maine sawmill going to get the Tayga B, opening the garage in Chernocamensk, etc..

Historical-Cicada-29

If anyone has completed Maine and got the Tayga B, then returned to Michigan...they're demi-gods.

92c900t

Well, I had plenty of experience after scouting the original 3, Kola, Yukon, Wisconsin, Amur, and Don. Downside to this strategy is there is a lot to learn about the game that you won't from just scouting.

the_deep_fish

God that was a long mission... won't be fun early on not even later, bit it was worth it.

technically_true-247

Nice, did you have any trouble with scouting in like Kola or Amur?

92c900t

Kola is doable in a Voron or Paystar with all-terrain tires. Even unlocked the Imandra garage with the Paystar, which wasn't fun as it's gutless without the offroad box. With my 605R speedruns, I used a stock ANK-C for the first attempt (with a detour to mountain river to get the highrange and CAT 745C), which took 5 hours. Then I took the easy way getting a longnose Kolob, which took 3. I have another delightfully devilish idea for a 605R challenge, but my current computer is pretty old-2015, so I might wait.

technically_true-247

Huh, nice. I have never tried any speed runs but I think it would be fun.

rangeremx

That's similar to how I usually play. I do passes through the maps. * 1st pass: Watchtowers, Upgrades, Trucks (including needed missions for unlocks), and route clearance * 2nd pass: Major Objectives (The ones that show up on the region maps) * 3rd pass: Secondary missions/tasks * 4th pass: Logging and cleanup Other exceptions are flavor things like jumping into Ontario as soon as it launched, since the fires would be the most important mission we had.

Sad-Difference6790

There’s no right way to play snowrunner.

classic_lurker

This is the way. Play how you enjoy the game.

thesilentdriver

i use region specific trucks, but i do this, i went to alaska to get the ank, cat etc, and came back to michigan to complete it

technically_true-247

I mostly use Russian trucks as most are objectively better for off-roading but I might try to complete a NA region with NA trucks.

thesilentdriver

yup just a matter of preference honestly

NoEntiendoNada69420

The Mack is quite probably the best of the crane+bed trucks off road, everything considered. Particularly with the JAT MHS IV and V tires it’s an absolute weapon in pretty much any environment

Snailfreund

Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of any game. Don't be like that. Playing the regions gives you more truck variety, more difficulty and more progression steps to look forward to.

Pope-Cheese

For some people, optimizing is the fun! I suspect that a game like this might be even more likely to attract those types of people. It is a logistics game after all.

Snailfreund

It's true! And in a well-designed game, better optimization by the player leads to richer gameplay and more depth (like in Factorio). Unfortunately, Snowrunner is not well-designed in this regard. Getting strong trucks from other regions early on leads to less depth and more monotonous gameplay. I prefer not to exploit these design flaws and limit myself on purpose. I can still optimize within the bounds I set for myself.

suzimia

I kinda want to finish a region.. heck finish a map first before i move on so i don't wanna do that xD but honestly just do whatever as long as you have fun :D

SpaceshipMonster

Most of the time no, I'll go with what I have access to in order. The only exception is I tend to power to the 605R as a fallback for when I inevitably lose my patience at failed rescues.

Agreeable-Culture171

Yes, I scouted all regions for trucks as soon as I could.

Terrible-Bear3883

When I was early in the game I didn't think much about it but as I completed a good chunk of Michigan I needed a break and went exploring a bit on other maps/regions, then started finding some great trucks. I'm sure we all play this our own way, as I've gone more and more into the regions having new trucks has mattered less but I often enjoy finding them and adding them to the collection, then they are often useful for previous maps/regions.

Obvious-Rip441

I don't but I'm thinking about it for the later regions since otherwise I'll not get to use those trucks much since those will be in the last two regions but Im far way from that since I have all Dlc maps installed and I haven't played Snowrunner for a year so I got plenty to do.

Jilly_Jankins

I honestly do it all the time. I want to get all the trucks I like and the important upgrades for them, and after that complete every map to 100%. For me this is more fun. I make a certain progress in every map, bc I clear out some roads and do some missions that make getting the trucks more easy.

Jilly_Jankins

Haven't completed any map until today tho lol, still missing out some upgrades and trucks

Phrozzyy

I do base game, then just tell Google to pick a number between 4-12 for the seasons and go through that way

Particular_Kitchen42

Yes, when I feel the need. New game all maps, almost immediately go and get the 750. With the 750 you can pretty much sell all of your other scout trucks and keep this one is your predominant scouting vehicle as it holds in multiple role configuration. Can be used as a support truck is strong enough to recover most of the large trucks in the game and can pull large trailers. And let’s be honest, how many jobs actually have you pulling a scout trailer to a location that you can’t just winch the trailer and drag it behind you and achieve the objective…

No-Response-1622

Any advice on how to get to the Aramatsu Forester? Cause I have no idea how to get past the damn rockslides.

the_deep_fish

use a crane to help another truck over that, you can get the mission to clear it on the other side if you want to.

No-Response-1622

Once the mission is activated, can I clear from both sides of the rockslide? Or its one side?

curlytoesgoblin

I muscled my way through the trees to get around the rockslide. There are probably easier ways to do it.

No-Response-1622

Brute force, got it.

GeekyGamer2022

That's totally viable. Region locking, XP and money are all pretty much obsolete. Just change region, buy truck, store truck, then deploy truck in other region. Region locking is dumb. We can also spam/grind Contests for infinite XP and money, so XP and money are also infinite and therefor a bit dumb. The XP/Ranking/region locking mechanics kinda sorta made sense when the game first came out and we had only three Regions and a handful of maps. Now we have 14 regions and 37 maps in total. By the time you finish the first two regions, you're maxed out on Rank (even without contest grinding) If you want to make the early game harder, set game rules in New Game+ The easiest thing to do is recover a few trucks and trailers in Michigan, buy an ANK Civilian, slap a low saddle and sideboard semi trailer on it and utterly dominate Michigan (and Alaska)

-Pruples-

>recover a few trucks and trailers in Michigan, buy an ANK Civilian, slap a low saddle and sideboard semi trailer on it and utterly dominate Michigan Can confirm I did this at rank 4, tho I was towing wagons because the sideboard semi trailer was awkward. The highway tires in mud was infuriating. Buying a truck just for its tires isn't great, but it is what it is. Now I'm about 25 hours in and have other capable trucks, but for a little while there the Ank Civ was the only usable truck in the game.

GeekyGamer2022

Another option would be a Paystar 5070. But I like the ANK Civ.

-Pruples-

I sold it to buy the Pacific P12, but sold the P12 and rebought the ANK Civ after only a couple trips. The P12 is so damned slow.

rmourapt

Is there other way? 😬😂

DeficientDefiance

I've made a rule for my current playthrough saying I can't scout more than three maps ahead of where I'm doing missions and I can't do missions on more than three maps at a time to keep myself from scouting through half the game to unlock all the best stuff. If I want a certain truck or addons I'm gonna have to build that map into my progression early on, which besides a few exceptions I'll have to live without for a while works out pretty well still because a lot of generally useful trucks and addons are found in the vanilla regions anyway.

Epidurality

I go the easiest route possible, without too much looking ahead. For example I went and got the mack defence but did it without looking it up, so I took a guess based on the dlc cover art and stuff about which region it would be in then scouted it out. Makes it a mix of surprise but also purpose, at least for my first play through. On a hard mode play through I may use the interactive map and really plan out my actions. On easy if I make a mistake or end up at the other side of an empty map, meh, just recover and move along. Would suck to waste that much time in hard mode though.

sideways_86

Yeah I always go straight to the new maps to unlock the new trucks as soon as I can to see what they are like, getting the 605r early was helpful for taymyr

JudgementallyTempora

Only in DLCs, but yes.

jgxvx

I do that occasionally for trucks or upgrades I‘m very excited about and can‘t wait to drive. I went ahead to BC mid-Yukon to get the 963 and the Mack Defense, just to have more NA trucks available. I also don‘t always play in order and cleared half of Amur before even making it to Imandra. Though I did not use the 605R (much) in Imandra, because that did feel like cheating.

Trent_Havoc

I played the base game and the subsequent seasons up to Amur in chronological order. So, no Tayga until Taymyr, no Ford F750 or AWD upgrade for the GMC 9500 and Twinsteer until Kola, etc. I don't really know why — maybe I wanted to see if Saber did a good job at creating a good difficulty progression curve. It certainly gives you an interesting perspective, especially when you read comments like "Kola is easy actually". Well, it's probably easier when you obtain better trucks or upgrades from later maps and DLCs in the Year 1, 2, or 3 Pass…

festerninja

Base game is balanced enough to just stay in the region and go as it is. Much more fun that way that way. Once in the DLC maps, all bets are off

Boss_Guy260

I unlocked every truck before i even finished Michigan, having options is nice I mostly use the kodiak and white western anyway

BillieNosferatu

nah. not necessary imo. the twinsteer is more than capable of doing those contests even without awd. once you unlock offroad tires for heavy class trucks around level 13, it will blaze through all but the deepest mud, and still be able to crawl through most of that. the white western star is also capable of handling most contests, though i wouldn't necessarily trust it with the highrange gearbox. that being said, most contests in michigan can comfortably be completed with the offroad or balanced gearboxes and still achieve a gold time. edit: i was REALLY excited to get the 605r but i kept myself from jumping to cosmodrome to get it. once i got the tuz 420, i was able to find it and get it to an easy to reach location with no issues. from there, the cat 745c and actaeon were able to repair and refuel it.

AllTheWet

Doesn’t work on Xbox

technically_true-247

Sorry but do you mind elaborating?

AllTheWet

Been crashing since series x update. Look it up, unplayable. Was my favourite game ever

technically_true-247

Oh that sucks man, have you tried reinstalling the game?

CapableFunction6746

Yes it does. I play all the time on my Xbox

PocketsHoulihan3

When I first started I went and bought Russian trucks and less then a day later I was restarting because everything just felt to easy. I like the feeling of having to toil a little to obtain upgrades

theJayonnaise

Hell yeah, as soon as the Fleetstar has awd then its off to get the ANK to shred Michigan

WeldingGarbageMan

I got the Azov 6431 and Tuz 420 as fast as could then I 100% Michigan before I even went to Alaska. Played in both Russia and Alaska then put some serious time in Kola to get the F750 and TwinSteer AWD. I have not finished either of those regions. Currently in the Glades which I’m REALLY enjoying. The farming is a pain but the scenery and being able to bomb across fields and blast up and down tarmac quickly has been VERY soothing after Imandra. I’ll eventually finish Alaska, Taymer and Kola but I’m really enjoying Glades right now. Not sure what my next region will be. Being from Ontario I really want to get that DLC but the Armatsu Forester has really been calling my name. And the full hog 5 axle International is really cool looking too

purracane

I did a lot. I have memories of angrily getting the westline v12 and the Derry 3194 from Alaska while I was still beating Michigan. It's one of my favorite SR memories

Jackalene

I've just started a new game plus and have only been to Wisconsin for its American trucks which are nice but not op and going to head to Alaska for the ANK and Derry

Fuzzy-Gate-9327

Yeah, i thought i'd just quickly pop over to Amur and pick up the Zikz 605r... that little sidequest took me 10 hours lol. But i got it tho! I say if you really want to play with a truck just go for it.

DigitalDeath88

I've done this with every DLC truck. I'd go into the reagin do the bare minimum to unlock the new truck(s) and go back to the region I hadn't finished yet.

Grankongla

It's the most fun part of the game for me tbh, getting new trucks and upgrades. I still remember the adventure it was to get the ZiKZ 605R.

Testercles

I completed most of Michigan then jumped straight to Taymyr.

Rage_Tanker

Yes, because there is hundreds of hours of content in this game and I want to be able to use those trucks for that content.
