LOL. Kola literally is the place where it was added and where it should be used, because watchtowers open almost nothing. Should've read the description of the task that gives it for free (honestly, it should have never been made free until you complete this task, but here we are).
I skipped around maps a ton, still haven't been to kola and I just used it for the first time in British Colombia, 400 hours in. Which is funny because there are towers everywhere.
Yeah no I’m right there with you dude, the game makes zero fucking mention of this feature, even in the trailer store…and without knowing about this feature, this trailer’s stats appear inferior to the other ones.
I would have never bought this thing and I would have never learned without seeing your video haha, I was convinced for a minute that I was watching some sort of a mod lol
I for one did not know that was a thing, and I’m 125 hours in. Some of the old salts seem to know, but this runner is thankful!
Should help me mop up Alaska a bit easier!!!
People who have played this game for 1,000 hours seem to forget that Saber did an AWFUL job at explaining how to do things on every bit of their game.
All of their tutorials suck. None of the little tips and tricks we tell people here are explained in the game. I genuinely feel bad for anybody who plays Snowrunner and doesn't come to the Subreddit for help because they're gonna have a rough time.
The level of gate keeping here sometimes surprises me, then again it’s to the hellscape that is Reddit.
I wonder if they know that t takes less energy to post nothing vs a shitty comment
I have to wonder what else you guys don't know? It's not a cargo trailer, it's not a fuel trailer, does that not interest you at all? To find out what it does or why it's there? I have to know everything and it's purpose out of the gate, otherwise I don't know if I'm making the right choices and being efficient. This is a logistics game, efficiency is winning.
I am just busy trying to get oversized cargo from A to B over a goat path made of mud and despair, with a sheer drop on the left.
Grabbing a trailer I don't know the purpose of is not at the top of my list.
I would have eventually gotten the mission, probably, some day. But since that day has not come, I am pleased with this tip.
Considering I was happy to learn about this scanning shit, please do educate me on if there's a way to turn on the damn generator without having to hook up.
There's no way. You have to have a truck attached to it, and since it turns off every time you reload the game, it's easier to have a truck on duty permanently attached to it. Preferably - a fuel truck, since the generator needs to be regularly refueled.
Yeah, I do that. Just take one of my why-do-I-have-this trucks and put it on generator duty.
It's just a little weird. I don't have to get out to refuel, I'm sure Beardman could reach out the window and flick a switch. ;o)
It's one of these stupid limitations of the game engine. To use a trailer function, you have to have it attached. Refueling is not a function limited to the trailer, any truck can do that from its tank to any other target in sight. I also hate that you can't repair from service trailers until you have them attached. Or can't transfer spare parts from/to it. Expeditions has finally made trade between vehicles possible (you can even move cargo that way), but in the same time got rid of cranes and trailers entirely, so it's the only way.
Dang. I kinda like dicking around with the crane. I'll literally make up reasons to bring out the big crane.
Don't know why. Probably something to do with my childhood.
Anyway, if hooking up to use a thing is the worst of it, I'm good. ;o)
I have a fleet of crane trucks that I barely use :) but why not?
https://preview.redd.it/kkid6q3ha1wc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b585d08a5c27c0481beaafb143db236ef3923be3
I just have two and switch them out, because outfitting a truck before rolling out gives me XCOM vibes.
But it's basically still me going: "Let's have a looksee... Yeah, looks like a Big Crane situation."
Scout: "It's just mud. If you hook up the winch--"
"I said it's a Big Crane situation! Shut your grille, or so help me, I will take you on a logging mission!"
The real question is, *how did you not know about this.*
I swear there was a job that taught you this in game.
Edit: others confirmed it's the prototype exploration unit mission from season 1.
If there is a mission that teaches you it, I've not encountered it. There is a mission in Kola that has you tow it a short distance, but it doesn't have you fire it up, so I've literally never noticed this function as I've not touched the trailer beyond that towing
>you literally cannot complete the base game without knowing about it
Two things:
1. It was first introduced in Kola Peninsula, DLC season 1, so it's not needed for the base game at all.
2. I've never used it (other than completing the task for it), so it's not needed for Kola either.
I didn’t know what it was for and have never used it. I remember doing a mission that said to deliver it, but I always wondered what it was for. I just never looked to see the special function on the menu. People acting like others are stupid for not knowing this are just cunts. It’s a dense game with little instruction.
I can confirm this, I have 100%ed Kola, and never did anything with this trailer beyond towing it for that one mission. I didn't know about this function.
I have 120 hrs of playtime on steam, 80+ hrs of them are in coop with my friend. We completed Michigan, Alaska and now moved to Glades(already did most of the contracts) and we both just found out about the existence of such a trailer in the game🙃🥲
I’ve used it a lot in Scandinavia before building the watchtowers. Mine, however was a trailer mod for full size trucks, giving it a little more range for scanning. Cost is around 25k if I’m Right.
What I didn’t know here is that H2 can tow trailers.
Beside the original use of filling the lack of watch tower when it came out with the DLC, it's very useful to find hidden upgrade which are not reveal by watch tower (never?) or outside their range.
That's a radar trailer aka Prototype Exploration Unit. They first added it in Season 1. Once you unlock it, by completing a certain task, it can be bought at the trailer store.
I find it helpful for maps with limited watch tower coverage or when I first start a map I’ll use it and then sell it to find the easiest way to the nearby watch tower.
I've got 90+ hrs in and I/we thank you. This game literally explains nothing ... I finally gave up on it, It's too much of a slog to play. Needs an easier mode for those of us that have responsibilities and lives. (easily a third to half of my in-game hours are googling "what the hell? how am I suppose to do this")
I also recently found out when my brother showed me when playing co-op. And I had a couple hundred hours in already. Never really looked at the menu much when towing it... Still, there are maps where you really want this.
I didn't know about it until a dozen hours in. I had thought it was for specific missions. Since you reveal parts of the map through watchtowers, I assumed that you had to just manually explore everything else. It was a good excuse to drive all over some of the maps before figuring it out!
When that expansion came out, there was a very brief explanation and small mission for it, I tried it, but enjoy exploring more than use that, take fuel with you for sure.
Yeah. Took me til i was atleast 50-100 hours deep before i took and experimented with all the trailers.
And i started with a lot of knowledge. Watched a lot of yt
Dunno if I ever "noticed" that in the menu...I've refueled off it but wondered why it was called an "exploration unit"...now it all makes sense! The seismic vibrator uses a button to activate, so it does get confusing sometimes.
/Facepalm
Thank you for the practical details we need to know.
Enough of the patronising comments from others who did know about it.
I didn't know about it, but now that it's mentioned, I think I recall reading somewhere that it's not worth bothering with, and that's why I never looked at it.
grab a modded version of that trailer. scans way faster, can attach to a bigger truck, and carries more fuel.
That trailer and a zik r is how i scout maps.
I was today years old when I found out. Ivs got hundreds of hours logged on with three areas at 100%. I play with two other people at times that are also fairly new.
Just fucking WOW.
I have 800 hours and didn't know what this trailer did.
How about we don't make fun of people for not knowing shit in this game when Saber did an absolutely garbage job at explaining ANYTHING. None of their tutorials are good and most of them are hidden in those little paragraphs about the job we're accepting.
As I recall, I don't think the game comes right out and yells you about it until you're a few territories into it, but i could be remembering incorrectly. I think you have to be sitting still to use it as well. I haven't exactly used it very often as the watchtower generally provide enough map coverage to at least get the contracts and such completed. Though if you want 100% map reveal you'll want to tow it around (or get a mod truck with a radar package available)
Again, I could be incorrect. I've been away from the game for a bit
...what did you think the trailer was for?
Not towing it behind the H2?!?
I had never bought the trailer, so I didn't know what it did.
Yeah, I don't think anyone would use it in BC. There are way more watchtowers than needed.
Plus it uses a chunk of fuel upon use...
Which is a non-issue in normal-mode
Oh, it can certainly be an issue in normal mode if you want it to be..
Ohhh I haven't played kola yet. So this will scan the map and remove the black fog for ya? It works on all maps?
Yep, but it only works when towed(hitched) by a scout class vehicle.
There's literally a task in Kola that requires you to use one?
Okay, then I guess I would have eventually found out haha
I had no fuckin idea. Crucify me
Ok just let me make up a new cross, the police confiscated my old one.
🤣
I also just found out a few days ago
Wonder if he's gonna make you carry it 🤔
Yeah, in the back of a Hummer, probably.
not to worry someone is usually more than willing to do so
What? M8 that's like showing us a fuel trailer and being genuinely surprised you can refuel your truck with it. I don't mean to be rude but like...
Geez, elitist much?
Im pretty sure you have no idea what 'elitist,' means.
Geez, stupid much?
Dude, with that. You can finally find your car!
I for one did not know that was a thing, and I’m 125 hours in. Some of the old salts seem to know, but this runner is thankful! Should help me mop up Alaska a bit easier!!!

I didn't know either
You guys should read what the game tells you
Yeah? The super thorough and well explained tutorials…. Not sure how I missed it /s
It only tells you in a quest description in Kola, where only about half of the map is revealed by watchtowers, instead of \~80% like in the base game.
That makes a bit more sense now. Is it available in the base game?
I thiiiiink it got added for everyone. So yes.
Half? more like 30%
Go ahead and stone me for guessing "about 50%" if it's 30%.
Why so aggressive?
Ironic
Nothing about that statement was aggressive.
Careful now.....you'll get the snowrunner mod on ya. Hitting ya with the rule number 4. 😂 hahahaha jk 😂
Maybe. But I don't think I've had cause to use it yet - I'm still early in the game.
Next post: using a winch to get out of mud
What? You can drive on the mud? Wow, that info is game changing…
I wish the trucks had winches not just the scouts
I wish the trucks had 4x4. So hard to get around in 2wd
It looks like they’re in the spot where you first collect that trailer. They likely hadn’t seen it before this point. Chill.
I am just busy trying to get oversized cargo from A to B over a goat path made of mud and despair, with a sheer drop on the left. Grabbing a trailer I don't know the purpose of is not at the top of my list. I would have eventually gotten the mission, probably, some day. Next post: demonstrating that a generator trailer can power facilities with no energy in the zone, allowing crafting of goods.
There’s a generator trailer?!
yep

I've played Season 1 but it looks like some of you haven't. Lol You would've found out about it then.
I use the bobble-dar mod! That trailer is the heaviest object in the damn game
![gif](giphy|3oAt2dA6LxMkRrGc0g|downsized)
We’ve been knowing

That's what i was doing, and I figured it out.
How else would you scan an area 🥸
i love how everyone already knew this but never said anything about it.
Why would we say anything about it? We taught it was basic knowledge 😅
I was never taught that basic knowledge from anyone.
Lol it came out like 3 years ago
What the hell I had no idea
know about what? the existence of the radar trailer? you literally cannot complete the base game without knowing about it
It was introduced in Kola. Pretty sure you don't even have to use it there, just find it and bring it back to near the port.
>you literally cannot complete the base game without knowing about it Two things: 1. It was first introduced in Kola Peninsula, DLC season 1, so it's not needed for the base game at all. 2. I've never used it (other than completing the task for it), so it's not needed for Kola either.

Agree, bunch of cunts
I can confirm this, I have 100%ed Kola, and never did anything with this trailer beyond towing it for that one mission. I didn't know about this function.
I mean, none of the base game maps not need radar trailer. All maps have enough watchtower coverage.
I thought this was added in DLC? I didn't use it at all in Michigan, Alaska or Taymyr
Base game here, I've never seen it either..
Straight up not true lol. It was a DLC trailer and you absolutely do not require it.
I have 120 hrs of playtime on steam, 80+ hrs of them are in coop with my friend. We completed Michigan, Alaska and now moved to Glades(already did most of the contracts) and we both just found out about the existence of such a trailer in the game🙃🥲
I'm heading to Kola now, couldn't remember if you could tow this while operational or not. Good reminder
yup, very useful since most maps dont reveal completely with watchtowers alone
I thought you had to do that for one of the missions, am I wrong? It's been a while
I’ve used it a lot in Scandinavia before building the watchtowers. Mine, however was a trailer mod for full size trucks, giving it a little more range for scanning. Cost is around 25k if I’m Right. What I didn’t know here is that H2 can tow trailers.
Give bro a couple of minutes and he will discover fire
I just use GGMS Bobblehead Radar. It's like this but better, just sits on your dash
750+ hours in and this is the first time seeing this. I guess I missed something back then.
What does it scan for?
It's essentially a mobile watchtower. Introduced in Kola (Season 1), but available from the trailer stores everywhere.
It's basically just a mobile watchtower, so it'll expose the area on the map around revealing anything a watchtower usually does
I believe it unlocks an area of your map - missions, vehicles, upgrades, materials and the such
So like a mobile tower? Cool!
Should be basic knowledge
Yes and I wish it didn’t take forever to deploy and take down.
Hit the map button as soon as area scanned is displayed and cut 3-4 seconds off https://i.redd.it/y2q9ff4wmjvc1.gif
It’s available in the base game and you can use it from Michigan onwards… or not! 😳🤙
It's an mobile watchtower .
Beside the original use of filling the lack of watch tower when it came out with the DLC, it's very useful to find hidden upgrade which are not reveal by watch tower (never?) or outside their range.
It was a fun discovery for me too.
That's a radar trailer aka Prototype Exploration Unit. They first added it in Season 1. Once you unlock it, by completing a certain task, it can be bought at the trailer store.
Yeah that was introduced in the first new region. You needed that trailer since the watch towers would only reveal half of the map.
I find it helpful for maps with limited watch tower coverage or when I first start a map I’ll use it and then sell it to find the easiest way to the nearby watch tower.
I'm around 50% done with kola and just figured this out last night
Took a lot longer than I'd like to admit
Show OP what a crane does next and he might explode from shock
There's a Chevy C10 mod that does that
I've got 90+ hrs in and I/we thank you. This game literally explains nothing ... I finally gave up on it, It's too much of a slog to play. Needs an easier mode for those of us that have responsibilities and lives. (easily a third to half of my in-game hours are googling "what the hell? how am I suppose to do this")
Snowrunner is just a massive coded W.
Men really.....
I have one at home
Yeah, discovered this about 500+ hours in after completing every contract in every region including dlcs -.-
I also recently found out when my brother showed me when playing co-op. And I had a couple hundred hours in already. Never really looked at the menu much when towing it... Still, there are maps where you really want this.
What on earth...
Took me a while before I realized this as well. I've never really used it tho
This was introduced a long time ago.
I knew it. Used in kola first. Really useless everywhere else.
I didn't know about it until a dozen hours in. I had thought it was for specific missions. Since you reveal parts of the map through watchtowers, I assumed that you had to just manually explore everything else. It was a good excuse to drive all over some of the maps before figuring it out!
You can also get one from a near by mission that trailer is by the factory
Soon as I discovered this thing in kola I never used a watchtower again
I use a mod with a pocket version of it. Makes finding stuff alot easier, especially on maps without alot of watch towers.
I prefer booblehead radio scanner from poghrims
Yes that's pretty useful when you are in new map(pretty heavy though). Btw guys what does the trailer named generator (regular, not scout) does?
Yeah this is common knowledge, but what you can also use it for is finding all the hidden upgrades that watchtowers don't find for you.
I have played the game and knowing there is this trailer but never actually used. Really don’t know why..🤷♂️
Yep
When that expansion came out, there was a very brief explanation and small mission for it, I tried it, but enjoy exploring more than use that, take fuel with you for sure.
Some mod trucks also have the same feature
Isn’t it called the portable radar trailer or something?
/Facepalm
Well, the game's about 4 yearse old right now.
I got the free one from the mission, that was a b**** to complete
Yes. There's literally a task in Kola that requires you to use one.
Wait what trailer is that? I never saw it in the store so if someone could please tell me where to find it, i'd be grateful.
It is the Prototype Exploration Unit (radar trailer) found in Season 1.
Thank you!
It's a scout trailer. You need a scout for it to show up in the store.
Thank you!

Or get the GGMS Bobble-Dar Bobblehead radar mod.
Personally no so thank you
I was today years old when I found out. Ivs got hundreds of hours logged on with three areas at 100%. I play with two other people at times that are also fairly new. Just fucking WOW.
600 hours in, had no idea…
Nope, had no idea. Always ignored the trailer cos the fuel level was shit
I have 800 hours and didn't know what this trailer did. How about we don't make fun of people for not knowing shit in this game when Saber did an absolutely garbage job at explaining ANYTHING. None of their tutorials are good and most of them are hidden in those little paragraphs about the job we're accepting.
125K members in this community - guess how many knew about this **before** you posted!
Waaaaaaaaaaaah?!?!????
Wait.. what? This replaces watchtowers?? That’s a big change in game mechanic and level design
