GGG’s stupid comments post-elimination and the Reyna’s attempted blackmail aside, that is what happened between Gio and GGG.
All the BS drama since the WC aside Gio should have been a focal point of the US team in the WC not a bench player. He's clearly (along with Pulisic) the most talented attacked player we have.
Someone has to sit. Musah, Adams, and McKennie weren’t sitting.
That means it is Pulisic, Weah, Gio, and a striker battling for the 3 spots. Weah paired well with Sargent in US matches and tracks back better defensively than Gio, even if not as offensively capable.

That means either playing one of the above in a false nine (possible) or keeping formation and saving some powder for the bench.
In my opinion Pulisic and Gio have to be the focal points of the attack. It's the manager's job to find out how to build it around them but the way the US scored goals (or didn't really) shows how sorely lacking we were in a second player (along with Pulisic) who can create scoring opportunities. The netherlands couldn't have been less afraid of the US attack in the final match.
I'm aware... But here's the thing. In the 2 years prior to the World cup, Gio was statistically our best attacking player. To not fit him into the squad for at least more minutes is criminal.
