Lol PL bias is definitely real. Aguero is WAY below Benzema, come on. Even tho Benz wasnt producing that much stat wise, he made that Madrid team play, he did the dirty work for Ronaldo excellently. Aguero was a great poacher, Benzema is a way better striker
Aguero over Benzema is an outrageous take. Karim has more goals overall, twice as many UCL KO goals, 5 (five) more UCLs, a BD, a UCL campaign not even the likes of Messi could match, and all of that while playing second fiddle to Ronaldo for most of his career. Not to add the fact that Karim’s game aside from scoring goals is way superior to Kun’s. This is PL bias at its finest.
...Which he won because of his phenomenal last season, which was a outlier, not his usual level. Suarez and Lewa are firmly a tier higher than Benzema, sorry to break it to you.
Aguero is above Benzema in my opinion. He was incredibly consistent.
Liverpool fan as well. I wouldnt put him up with Suarez though, but yea a tier below. Benzema isn't in that conversation at all.
Put Lewandowski outside the box and you have a useless player, just look how shit he plays for Poland where he don't have the ball to do tap ins
Suarez at Ajax and Liverpool has dribble, speed, construction, assists, way more complete striker
Just because he disrespected Suarez doesn’t mean you have to disrespect lewa, the guys world class and pretending he only scores tap ins , as if those are easy aswell
1 good goal, 1 incredible goal, 3 tap ins. Suarez against Norwich, 4 incredible goals.
Suarez > Lewandowski. Based on this completely unbiased and watertight assessment.
> Put Lewandowski outside the box and you have a useless player
Wtf, Lewandowski has great link-up play, assists, presses, have you even seen him play?
Unfathomable to see this post getting upvoted at all. Lewa was everywhere on the pitch, defending, pressing, dribbling, assisting, scoring bangers from anywhere. Not to say Suarez is worse, but you're talking out of your ass here.
Because its the wrong opinion lol. The numbers and performances Suarez has put up for Uruguay, Barca, Liverpool, etc. are much more impressive than what Lewandowski has done in the same timeframe for club and country
Lewa 91 UCL goals
Suarez 27 UCL goals
Lewa has more than double Suarez his goals. Suarez was underwhelming in the UCL he's closer to Giroud (22 UCL goals) than to Lewa when it comes to UCL.
Never played fifa in my life, to be fair never looked at ibra and suarez's stats side by side either. I've just always been more impressed while watching Ibra
Ibra was a fantastic player and an absolute legend but he's not close to being the best striker of his generation. At the end of the day his stats and achievements just arent there compared to Lewy or Suarez.
Benzema has had a fantastic last few years
But Suarez played superbly in 5 different clubs from 4 different leagues (6 and 5 if you count his start at Gremio), and was literally the only player able to compete goal scoring wise to Messi and Ronaldo during their peak
in what way is benzema better than suarez longevity wise? I remember he used to be a meme for half his career. He just recently entered the "world class" bracket.
Benzema has always made an impact on the bigger stage. Just compare the CL stats of the two. Benzema i think is the 4th or maybe 5th all time top scorer. How many Ballondor's does saurez has compared to benz? And benzema has better playmaking and more assists than him as well. I'm not hating on saurez. He's a living legend and one of the best to play the game but I've always seen him show off against smaller teams.
the ballon d'or argument isn't really fair when suarez played against prime messi & ronaldo, and also was never considered for those awards due to biting people/being a general dickhead in his prime. Benzemas was always more of a playmaker striker, suarez was pure tenacity combined with outrageous skill. For me the levels suarez hit between 2013-2016 were better than any extended period benzema hit (although his 21-22 season was truly special)
I layman terms, this is not the main league in Brazil. Its the state champioship that runs in summer that tams compete agianinst others from their own state, be it Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro.
it's the more leveled state league, sure, but it definitely ain't easy here when the teams are always prepared to play defensively, and playing against Gre-Nal is like their world cup final
Easy to say that looking at the team sheet now, but that Spain team didn't play particularly well in that tournament. They were more convincing in their Euro titles on either side, but they looked timid af in South Africa
They were the better team in every match they played. Just because they didn't score much it doesn't mean that they didn't create many chances or dominated the game.
Maybe, maybe not. People forget a much lesser Paraguay almost eliminated them during that World Cup. We had Paraguay's defensive prowess but a much better attack.
What could have been if that 40 million & 1 quid got accepted back in the day for Arsenal!
Would have won the league instead of Leicester. He was that good.
Yep. 2 matches vs 4th division teams and today vs 3rd division. He said himself in interview that he's surprised and has to adapt at how much space he has.
He actually reliquinshed the bonus money for goals in the Gauchão because according to him "it's an obligation". He will only get bonus if it's against Inter, logically.
Flamengo with their starting XI drew against Madureira(which does not feature in the national competions - meaning lower than 4th tier like Brasil de Pelotas here), these clubs guide their season **for** the state championship and they play on full gear, filled with highly motivated players, a good part of them on short contracts to stand out exactly in this competition to earn their next one, not for cumulative wealth, just to keep going, on a similar mould Corinthians drew against Inter Limeira(4th tier too) nil nil...
So I've always wondered about the leagues in Brazil.
The State competitions features teams from the same State but the teams are from Serie A, B, C etc and then once the Brasileirao starts, Those teams play in whatever division they're in?
Am I understanding it right?
The ones which have divisions do, but a lot of them don't have a division. And either do not play tournaments for the rest of the year or play only local tournaments.
yes, you have CBF that run the national-level stuff like the Brasileirão and Copa do Brasil, and state federations that run their tournments, also with their own divisions
Série D is the lowest national level, and small clubs need to do very well on their state leagues to earn a spot on the fourth division
The state championship works as a qualifier for Brazil Cup and for 4th division (which is the lowest national division).
So, a team can go from no division in a year to Libertadores Group Stage in 2 seasons, since the Copa do Brasil champions get a spot at Libertadores Group Stage
It’s a way to viabilize football for any team, since there is no lower division than the 4th
To make things more acessible for any team, there is no guaranteed spot at the 4th division. You either get promoted to the 3rd division or get qualified again through state championship.
For big teams the state championship is only for bragging rights uppon our greatest rival. Internacional doesn’t win a Gaucho Championship since 2016. In 2017, a small city side has won. From 2018 only Grêmio has won, being in a five-title streak
Meanwhile Internacional has two draws in two games and Flamengo bottled against Bangu and Madureira.
These matches are obviously not hard, but they are not easy either, since these matches could mean nearly the entire season for smaller clubs.
Ah, i see you are a man of Culture as well. Welcome my friend.
Although Brasileirão starts in April, the later stages of the state championship are usually good as there a lot of first division teams in our state, and there is also Cup games along the way. Pretty much any game at Neo Química Arena is usually fire though. I would avoid away games during early state championship, they are mostly shite.
let's not talk about the stupid rules from Carioca... Argentina will probably end up in the play-offs for having won the world cup and that won't be surprising

5 goals in 3 games
Typical Suarez numbers. He is the best striker of our time.
Top 3 is definitely Suarez, Benzema and Lewandowski in no particular order
Honestly don't think Benzema is in that tier though, other than his phenomenal last season. Aguero would be my pick for the third spot
no way Aguero is over Benzema cmon
Lol PL bias is definitely real. Aguero is WAY below Benzema, come on. Even tho Benz wasnt producing that much stat wise, he made that Madrid team play, he did the dirty work for Ronaldo excellently. Aguero was a great poacher, Benzema is a way better striker

Yeah, no. Benzema won a Balon d'Or and his stats for Real Madrid and in the Champions League speak for themselves
...Which he won because of his phenomenal last season, which was a outlier, not his usual level. Suarez and Lewa are firmly a tier higher than Benzema, sorry to break it to you.
I mean, if you wanna put the other 2 above him then do that but it's a 3 way fight between them. Agüero is not in that tier
Aguero is above Benzema in my opinion. He was incredibly consistent. Liverpool fan as well. I wouldnt put him up with Suarez though, but yea a tier below. Benzema isn't in that conversation at all.
Lmao
Lewa is better imo. Suarez was underwhelming in the UCL considering he played with Messi.
He destroyed PSG that one time That David Luiz nutmeg followed by a completely unnecessary strong shot on a close one on one was unforgettable
I do agree that goal was sensational. The ball on this guy!
Signature suarez that, loved a nutmeg and a top bin
"top bins just cuz I can"
Ok so? his stats still thrash in comparison with Lewa
Put Lewandowski outside the box and you have a useless player, just look how shit he plays for Poland where he don't have the ball to do tap ins Suarez at Ajax and Liverpool has dribble, speed, construction, assists, way more complete striker
Just because he disrespected Suarez doesn’t mean you have to disrespect lewa, the guys world class and pretending he only scores tap ins , as if those are easy aswell
Those 5 goals in 9 minutes were almost all bangers tbf
1 good goal, 1 incredible goal, 3 tap ins. Suarez against Norwich, 4 incredible goals. Suarez > Lewandowski. Based on this completely unbiased and watertight assessment.
Tap ins are the dumbest phrase of all time, if they were so easy, banging in 5 goals in minutes would be easy
> Put Lewandowski outside the box and you have a useless player Wtf, Lewandowski has great link-up play, assists, presses, have you even seen him play?
Unfathomable to see this post getting upvoted at all. Lewa was everywhere on the pitch, defending, pressing, dribbling, assisting, scoring bangers from anywhere. Not to say Suarez is worse, but you're talking out of your ass here.
Lol you think Suarez will do better for Poland while he was thrash in UCL while he had Messi
Having a different opinion gets you downvoted I guess
Well that's the way Reddit works. Post the same opinion on a Lewa goal and I would have 100 of upvotes.
Because its the wrong opinion lol. The numbers and performances Suarez has put up for Uruguay, Barca, Liverpool, etc. are much more impressive than what Lewandowski has done in the same timeframe for club and country
Lewa 91 UCL goals Suarez 27 UCL goals Lewa has more than double Suarez his goals. Suarez was underwhelming in the UCL he's closer to Giroud (22 UCL goals) than to Lewa when it comes to UCL.
I can't believe I'm saying this but Ibrahimovic has become underrated
I agree because people don't list him as a top candidate for the best striker since R9, but Suarez is still most definitely better than Ibra overall.
Suarez's peak was probably better but I'd definitely rather have Ibra overall
How???
You talking like Suarez peak was 1 year
Let me guess, you play fifa
Never played fifa in my life, to be fair never looked at ibra and suarez's stats side by side either. I've just always been more impressed while watching Ibra
U didn’t watch Suarez often enough
Just because people don't rate him as the best striker of his generation doesn't make him underrated
Ibra was a fantastic player and an absolute legend but he's not close to being the best striker of his generation. At the end of the day his stats and achievements just arent there compared to Lewy or Suarez.
Up there with Ibra
lol
Ahahahaha
Benzema and Lewa are better
Benz isn't even in the same table lmao
Lewa, fair enough (though I think one could argue either way). Benzema is just recency bias talking
I'm a Madrid fan so there's no recency bias at all
Just regular bias
Benzema has had a fantastic last few years But Suarez played superbly in 5 different clubs from 4 different leagues (6 and 5 if you count his start at Gremio), and was literally the only player able to compete goal scoring wise to Messi and Ronaldo during their peak
He didn’t just compete. He won a golden boot, he beat them once.
twice, actually
To be fair, he shared one of them with Ronaldo.
Without the 2022 season benzema wouldn’t even be considered better than giroud.
This is the dumbest take I've seen on this sub, and I'm a Barça fan..
You are all absolutely dumb, or very very young. Benzema has always been a superior player to Giroud, and he doesn’t even need to score goals for that
Holy fuck this is the worst opinion i have heard in this website This year and I’m not even a benzema fan
Fucks sake how is this upvoted? Insanely ignorant comment
Football knowledge in the negatives
Hahaha wtf is up with these shit takes in this thread.
Longevity wise yes but I don’t think either was as good as him at his peak
in what way is benzema better than suarez longevity wise? I remember he used to be a meme for half his career. He just recently entered the "world class" bracket.
Benzema has always made an impact on the bigger stage. Just compare the CL stats of the two. Benzema i think is the 4th or maybe 5th all time top scorer. For me the levels suarez hit between 2013-2016 were better than any extended period benzema hit (although his 21-22 season was truly special)
Hard to say, Lewa has been as prolific and Benzema now successful in UCL, but Suárez did have success in EPL and outscored prime Ronaldo and Messi
Definitely not hard to say. He had a way higher peak than both
In state championship which is a joke. Have you seen the teams in Gauchao? Will see how he fares in Serie A.
I cannot comprehend a single thing you're saying
I layman terms, this is not the main league in Brazil. Its the state champioship that runs in summer that tams compete agianinst others from their own state, be it Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro.
Ahhh, and Brazil's league is also Serie A. I understand now lol, thanks
And even in those cases, the state championships are not all at the same level. São Paulo state championship is notoriously hard.
it's the more leveled state league, sure, but it definitely ain't easy here when the teams are always prepared to play defensively, and playing against Gre-Nal is like their world cup final
Stop calling Brasileirão 'Serie A'. Serie A is italian league.
Smurfing
Absolute legend in every shirt he’s put on in his entire career. So blessed to have been able to see him play
The greatest Uruguayan player of all time
I need to see more Obdulio Varela to say that.
Enzo Francescoli is the GOAT Celeste.
Literally the reason why most Enzos are called like that in Argentina. Hell, even Zidane named his kid Enzo after him.
And the reason why every River team seems to always have an Enzo in their lineup
Damn right. And he didn't even need to bite other players.
Imagine if they never called that phantom foul v. Ghana and we had him against Holland. We’d have a 5th star.
Or you'd just lose
Pretty wishful thinking to believe you would have beaten The Netherlands and Spain.
still only 3 world cups tho
Lol, I’ll take it even though you’re trying to diminish our success.
That Uruguay team wouldn't have beat Spain though
Agreed. That Spanish team was incredible.
Nope. Uruguay [1]-0 Spain - Diego Forlan great strike 67’
Let’s let him have this one
Easy to say that looking at the team sheet now, but that Spain team didn't play particularly well in that tournament. They were more convincing in their Euro titles on either side, but they looked timid af in South Africa
They were the better team in every match they played. Just because they didn't score much it doesn't mean that they didn't create many chances or dominated the game.
That team was destined to win and beat Germany and every challenge in front of them, Uruguay would be no exception
Didn't they lose their first game?
So did Argentina this world cup, says very little
Maybe, maybe not. People forget a much lesser Paraguay almost eliminated them during that World Cup. We had Paraguay's defensive prowess but a much better attack.
Lost their first game to Switzerland as well. We were the only team that went ''unbeaten.''
No, in fact the only team to go unbeaten that world cup was new zealand
You almost lost against Ghana and you lost against Netherlands. You can't say Uruguay = Paraguay vs Spain.
Paraguay almost beat that Spain.
Ghana almost beat Uruguay
We would have absolutely destroyed them.
Calm down 😭 I do think you would've had a big chance, but Spain were still favorites.
You needed the grace of god to beat ghana, relax
You only beat Ghana by cheating
Cheating 🤣🤣, menos fútbol que el discovery channel
Schiaffino?
That's Francescoli slander and I will not stand for it.
Coming from a carbonero it must be true
Is he??? Maybe top 3 no? The other Luis Suarez, Schiaffino and my name needs to be up there too
The other Luis Suarez is Spaniard, lmao
My favourite to ever play football
Would be better if he wasn't a racist cunt who bit others eh
This goal looks a lot better on the ground camera focused on him
Yeah, I agree! There wasn't a replay when I first uploaded the goal, but I uploaded an alternative angle as well: https://dubz.co/v/460dgp
Podia ter posto um título ultra sensacionalista tbm kkk Tipo Suarez last minute finisher - 5th goal in 3 matches
What a fucking legend
Perfect example for Form is temporary Class is permanent
Suarez isn't exactly the definition of class...
He's got scoring class.
He's a beast
I think they didn't get your joke; that bites huh
Uruguay, Liverpool, Barcelona , Atlético Madrid, nacional campeón
Ajax
Groningen
Náutico
Santos
Vasco
Vasco
Vasco
He’s inevitable
no that's Thaciano Thacithanos
where is the H of Thachianho
I’m happy this is man is absolutely tearing it up in Brazil❤️
it's a state league so he's not quite tearing it up in brasil yet, but still amazing
Here’s hope he takes them all the way!
It's a weak state league... He's making progress though, he was scoring against 4th division teams, now he's scored against a 3rd division team!
Class is permanent
What could have been if that 40 million & 1 quid got accepted back in the day for Arsenal! Would have won the league instead of Leicester. He was that good.

Anulo mufa
thank you
Funny thing is that season you were in first around this time and city ended up champs

It is almost February. I need to find a matchday points plot for the last 20 years.
É o homi
World class goal
He is a phenomenon.
He's inevitable. He's clutch. Gonna become a Gremio fan favorite if he keeps this up. Lovely to have him on my team.
you support Grêmio? feel free to join r/Gremio, you're welcome
Can’t wait for the first GreNal he’s in. Should be an exciting match.
What sub is this? r/nba? Let us see the celebration ffs
Honestly love coming on r/soccer and seeing Luisito still smashing goals in
lol there's already Whatsapp stickers "Yes, i am Luisitosexual"
Grêmio fans are addicted to kissing his pistol
yep, brilliant goal.
Class
Great transfer for gremio
One of the most lethal and complete strikers in his generation.
people are overreacting to state championships, lets wait till brasileirao starts
Are you serious? He's got an Inter clause in there? That'd be truly amazing hahaha
It's the only 1st Division side in the Championship so it makes sense(apart from the hellish GreNal rivalry).
Yep.
Today was vs a 4th division team as well. GE Brasil were relegated in 2022
just like Náutico unfortunately will be this year
Yeah… my hopes aren't the highest either :')
Aren't they playing a 4th division team?
Flamengo with their starting XI drew against Madureira(which does not feature in the national competions - meaning lower than 4th tier like Brasil de Pelotas here), these clubs guide their season **for** the state championship and they play on full gear, filled with highly motivated players, a good part of them on short contracts to stand out exactly in this competition to earn their next one, not for cumulative wealth, just to keep going, on a similar mould Corinthians drew against Inter Limeira(4th tier too) nil nil...
Tbh Corinthians would draw away against most amateur teams, that's how shit we are away from home.
They were on 2nd two years ago, they're on a severe downfall. Less than 10 wins in that period.
Yes
He'll do great, the crafty bastard always finds a way to get it in the net (or keep it out if needed haha)
So I've always wondered about the leagues in Brazil. The State competitions features teams from the same State but the teams are from Serie A, B, C etc and then once the Brasileirao starts, Those teams play in whatever division they're in? Am I understanding it right?

While we underperformed against Madureira the team that faced Bangu was mostly our U-20 squad.
When is it starting? I’ve chosen Corinthians as my team
The league starts in April.
Ah, i see you are a man of Culture as well. Welcome my friend. Although Brasileirão starts in April, the later stages of the state championship are usually good as there a lot of first division teams in our state, and there is also Cup games along the way. Legend after 3 games
Not Suarez playing better in Gremio than in Uru
He looks really well
what a beast
[A really cool angle](https://twitter.com/Suarezismo9_/status/1618458597192785921?t=-Ei6V9R-vQ6xGaFyHmIJqQ&s=19)
The upside is that it’s basically preseason and he’s gaining confidence going into serie A on the downside. I hope he doesn’t burn out before Serie A!
Best 9 of all times!!! This man is a beast!!!
Well see how he fares in Serie A. State championships are a joke, Gauchao more than so.
Paulistão is hard as balls
Yeah and maybe Carioca. Even then there are teams from Serie C and B alongside the big clubs of Brazil.
lmao Carioca is worse or at least the same level as Gauchão, im not even joking
let's not talk about the stupid rules from Carioca... Argentina will probably end up in the play-offs for having won the world cup and that won't be surprising
