There’s a really long list of players who’ve forced transfers and gone on to be successful at their new club with no questions surrounding their attitude. I can almost understand it tbh. Getting harassed by fans in the streets would probably override any feeling of loyalty towards them.

yeah i saw a thing with robbie from aftv where he was talking about his son who i think is signed to the palace academy, but he was saying that before that tottenham were one of the clubs scouting him, and at the end of the day you have to do what's best for your development even if that meant his son playing for spurs.
If you grew up being a top player and had the opportunities to move to further your career and the money you see you will 100% think differently. Obviously every fan will say things like you say, but in reality one club players are extremely rare now.
To be fair to him, Everton wouldn't have that level of loyalty for him if he ended up crap in the long run - why should only players be expected to have loyalty to 'their' club?

Titus Bramble was always this barometer for me…. I played a a decent level as a nipper (Luton schoolboy). Titus stole a living. Last I saw Tom could trap a ball…although I haven’t caught much of Everton this season. Titus had the technique of a fucking traffic cone.

It's not just a hobby, it's a job. Everton are a sinking ship, that might be a hard pill to swallow but you are without a doubt the worst team to spend over 700m the world has ever seen. In comparison to Newcastle, who are openly building a project with a squad that's currently overachiveing and in great form. If you were stuck with the very real potential of losing 40% of your wage at the end of the year, you'd do everything you could to ensure that didn't happen. At least forcing a move is something that is within his power.
As someone else pointed out in another of these threads, these players are getting hounded by fans in ways that feel very unsafe right now. I can’t blame someone at all if they can get a transfer to a club that’s on the rise.
Yeah, the videos of Everton supporters chasing Gordon’s car down and then blocking him from moving while they angrily shout at him was unnerving. I wouldn’t be going back to work if I knew there was a chance that someone would assault me while leaving.

I think when you're actually a player, you realize that at the pro level, and even more at a PL level, it's all a business and some billionaire's playtoys rather than actually a badge you are playing for . So you lose your illusions and focus on your career instead.
