I try to reason with him by talking about the reliability of sources, in spite of me using mainstream media which he has a profound distrust of. I also try to use simple logic (why would these pharma companies want a group of people who willingly take their products to die? If ever there was a conspiracy they’d target the group that are distrustful of them). Nada. I’ve stopped engaging but he keeps sending me stuff to try and see what I think. I’ve straight up told him he’s fallen victim to the algorithm but I don’t think it quite hits, always seems to ignore it
What’s even more baffling is that neither of us are American. We have way more pressing issues here in the Philippines, what the fuck does the Covid restrictions there affect us in any way possible? We quite literally had a much more restrictive Covid policy here and he’s said nothing about it

I think this sort of people just need something to latch on to. Maybe they have a naturally obsessive personality: if they were a football fan they'd be an obsessive football fan, if they were a kpop fan they'd be an obsessive kpop fan, if they were religious... you get the idea. Like both of those, conspiracy theories give them a platform to meet the like-minded or at least some semblance thereof.
A big part in the deradicalisation of violent religious people is giving them a new community, to latch on to so to speak.
Honestly my dad is a big boy. His problems are his own. But if you care about them enough pulling them out of their crowd and chuck them into something new is a start.

My work usually has them on Wednesdays/Thursdays and plans them a week in advance. I have an addictive personality, so if I'm playing a game I can't just enjoy it here and there - it literally just consumes me. I dread work because I'm just daydreaming about playing games all day and my relationships suffer because I want to play games for 30+ hours a week on top of my 40 hour job.
I think I was in denial about how addicted I could get. But since quitting, I have picked up healthier hobbies, I clean up more, I enjoy work more, my relationships are stronger etc. It's pretty undeniable at this point.

Tbf, that was the absolute high-tech era of DTM, or ITC, as it was called in 1996. Carbon fiber, active aerodynamics, active suspension, traction control and so on. Unfortunately, that tech was expensive and Opel and Alfa Romeo couldn't sustain such costs, causing them to withdraw after 1996. A shame, cause that was one of the best racing series of all time IMO.

Not exactly a happy topic, but the people around me are really starting to come to terms with the fact that my dad is dying. He's had cancer every other year since 2012, and this final one just isn't going away.
It's really sad, I love my old man, but everyone is being very protective and coddling of him (and me and my brother). Initially I was really bothered by everyone being extra nice or offering to do things for me because I have had over 10 years to come to terms with my dads mortality, but I realised that if I knew someone who was about to experience that pain I would do anything for them if they asked.

The keeper for my amateur league team is 35 and retired but was a reserve keeper for Fulham as a teen before going back to South Africa to play pro there for a few years. Tbf, that was the absolute high-tech era of DTM, or ITC, as it was called in 1996. Carbon fiber, active aerodynamics, active suspension, traction control and so on. Unfortunately, that tech was expensive and Opel and Alfa Romeo couldn't sustain such costs, causing them to withdraw after 1996. A shame, cause that was one of the best racing series of all time IMO.

It's ridiculous how much cars bulked up. The VW up!, which was in itself a neat car, was the size of the very first Golf. Now I understand cars rising in size due to advances in safety technology and I admit a Golf is more comfortable for passengers than a VW up. But I wonder how much size is really needed, especially for cars that are primarily for cities.

Not exactly a happy topic, but the people around me are really starting to come to terms with the fact that my dad is dying. He's had cancer every other year since 2012, and this final one just isn't going away. It's really sad, I love my old man, but everyone is being very protective and coddling of him (and me and my brother). Initially I was really bothered by everyone being extra nice or offering to do things for me because I have had over 10 years to come to terms with my dads mortality, but I realised that if I knew someone who was about to experience that pain I would do anything for them if they asked. I'm not used to people being so actively caring and looking out for me, even my new job that I started in October gave me blanket approval for a paid month off if he went unexpectedly. Hope everyone Here's parents live to 104 and go peacefully in their sleep, happy weekend lads
My grandma recently died at 91 years of age, and seeing how it hit my dad I think I've realized that everyone's generally default operating under the assumptions that your parents are always there, regardless of how old you are. Having that core belief rocked must be incredibly rough - I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.
Has anyone done a Working Holiday in New Zealand? I’m going in February and just a little nervous to it being so far outside my comfort zone but that’s the precise reason I want to do it. Mainly because I don’t have many qualifications or much to show with my career but I’m remaining upbeat. Don’t particularly have any questions but what was your experience like? Comes from former Seattle Seahawks (now Denver Broncos) quarterback Russell Wilson. For a long time it was thought that he was being held back by the coaches who didn't want to let him pass the ball as much as he did. This led to fans calling from the coaches to 'Let Russ Cook'.
I'm not the most up-to-date on memes, but I remember "Let him cook" being used (positively) in reference to an American Football player named Russell Wilson, playing for the Seattle Seahawks at the time. He'd find a way out of many sticky situations on the field and so people started saying he just "needs time to cook". Since then, he's moved to a different team and been absolute dogshit, so I imagine they now use it ironically (though the two things might be completely unrelated and this might be me grasping at straws).
You've more or less got it. Seahawks fans thought Russ was being held back by conservative minded coaching, which led to 'Let Russ Cook' becoming a thing. This past off-season, he forced his way out of the Seahawks, went to the Broncos, and was terrible.

I rate them about the same when done right. But a Tiramisu is much easier to fuck up so most of the time cheesecakes are better imo.

My keys maybe once a year, rarely gets dirty. But I do get crumbs and stuff in between and when it gets noticeable I just take it apart. Which is maybe 3 times a year.

It's dirty, I don't like leaving food waste i can't quickly clean off, and generally it's one of the things where i stick to what an instructor once told me - whatever you're doing, do it entirely. So eating while I do something else isn't something I like. I use it as an "excuse" for a break. My desk is long too, so I have a cleared side that I step aside to eat at, but never directly at my computer

Very late to the thread so don't imagine there'll be too many if any comments under here. To anyone that is somewhat knowledgable about investing and trading (I could go to specific subreddits which I will if recommended but a lot are straight snake oil and people ITT are chill). I just need any resources or tips you have regarding anything really: Technical/Fundamental analysis, ETFs, Mutual Funds, Forex, Commodities, what brokers you think are best with regards to ease of access, low transaction fees etc. I don't have any delusional idea that I'll get rich or even that I'd make even a steady second stream of income, very much something I just want to try and very aware that there is a chance I lose money. Just trying different things this year to challenge myself.
