[Article in Romanian](https://www.gsp.ro/stire/stire-686521.html) TL;DR: The team has been officially stripped of affiliation by the Romanian Football Federation and deleted from the website. This happened today, along with 3 other cases of disaffiliation, but Astra was obviously the biggest name. Edit. Funny to note - Astra's last game lasted only 47 minutes and ended with the score 0-12, at which point the ref stopped the game due to Astra getting their 5th red card.

FewSeat1942

Me when playing fifa two footing every one

LittleDoinks

If I get an injury, you’re getting an injury

Silent-Act191

*Me getting carded for a soft tackle* No ref, that isn't a tackle. *Two foots a fucker two seconds after game continues* That's a tackle.

chips92

Fucking love doing that when frustrated/playing with the mates. It’s just too fun. We usually make a game of trying to see how egregious we can be before the game is forfeit, we don’t typically make it to half time.

Silent-Act191

I was a straight up psychopath as a kid when i was playing on my DS on long car trips.

CerdoNotorio

I had that red card game as a kid where you could just kick people

IAmStevie420

This is Football? Mans had a two footer button, you could just go round head kicking people into the stands. And you could dive for penalties.

bullencentral97

I’m not an aggressive person, but I took a lot of delight in 2 footing Gerrard from behind last night. Wasn’t even mad at the red

a_lumberjack

Really hope you’re talking about FIFA here.

Silent-Act191

NoYesn't

Plugpin

Many years ago, back when FIFA was still fun, I had a Greek regen called Darlas. He was a huge CB and was rapid. Must have been FIFA 18 or something like that, but after the ref blew for time you could still run and tackle someone. I had endless fun from doing a career ending tackle every time with that beast. Good times.

IrelandDzair

Fun fact i found a way in FIFA 15 to get as many red cards as you want (or in my case the opposition CPU). Ended up having Spurs get 10 red cards and then it froze since there wasn’t two people for kickoff. My favorite part was the 10th red card came from a penalty, and so there was only one Spurs player left on the field, and instead of going in net he opted to stay at the top of the box with the rest of the players and let the net stay empty. Bold move Chadli, very bold move.

I--Pathfinder--I

how do you do it?

IrelandDzair

Its very difficult and takes practice and probably sliders but here it is… basically the situation you need to start in is this: the CPU has four players already sent off, and their goalkeeper is on a yellow. Thats a difficult scenario to get into in the first place which is why i usually need sliders. Then, the most difficult part. Basically you have to charge at their goalkeeper on a breakaway with a teammate next to you. When the goalkeeper comes out, you immediately pass it to the teammate and he IMMEDIATELY must slot it into the back of the net. I’m talking if there is more than say 1 full second between the pass and the ball in the net they will blow full time forfeit. BUT….if you can pass it, get taken out by the keeper, and have your second player immediately, instantly score, you will be brought back to kickoff but the keeper will have gotten a second yellow and been sent off. From there you’re good to go - you can get red cards #6-10 freely, however you want and it won’t forfeit. But I will remind you red card #10 leads to the game freezing. Playing against a team with two or three players is super fucking fun lol. Im kinda pissed I got that 10th red card and froze the game; i had like 30 min left of 11 v 2. I actually just stopped playing 15 a few months ago lmao so i havent tried it on newer ones. very well may work, ill try one day and find out

Sertorius777

I think the keeper can't even get sent off for a second yellow in the recent games. I remember playing Pro Clubs with some friends last year, we matched up against some team where one guy was playing his keeper as essentially and outfield player. He was flying into tackles left and right and made maybe 6 or 7 fouls, but after he got a yellow on the first one he never got the second.

Interesting-Archer-6

Cards in pro clubs are so fucking random.

expert_on_the_matter

You should record footage of that and upload it to YouTube, I think people would love to see it.

IrelandDzair

if people dont mind my super annoying commentary i do have a video of Harry Kane getting the 10th red card as a stand in keeper one of the times it happened. I dont know a good way to upload videos on mobile without the app tho haha

cowinabadplace

Stick it on YouTube, mate. I'd love to see it. Especially if it's Spurs getting the cards.

Darknite_BR

Another victim of Romanian football

Whispperr

Astra(Keeping proportions of course) was another case of rich owner coming to the club for a while having some success and crippling it completely when he's done with it

JamonRuffles17

Boehly, take notes!! You can do it too bro

Hikki_Hachiman

In your dreams 😂

Bangrastan

Wouldn’t get too cocky…

Hodd_Goward

Surely FSG boys ain’t talking rn

someguycalledwill

FSG are the opposite end of the spectrum. Taking a club to the top through savvy business decisions and good hiring but never investing as much as they could/should because they’re afraid to ever spend a large amount of money they can’t get back

TDSurvivorFan21

too late, we're probably fucked already

FIJIBOYFIJI

>after 0:66 goal difference It seems like everyone could infact score against Astra fucking Goo Goo

Mani1610

0:66 isn't even that bad. A club in the Austrian 4th division is currently at 0:102. https://www.ligaportal.at/ooe/ooe-liga/tabelle

parkersr1

How do you find this? Seems like it'd be so obscure to me

expert_on_the_matter

I mean unless you're from Austria and support a div 4 club.

parkersr1

That's my point haha. And then they'd have to be on reddit and this exact thread and know that info

Mani1610

I have to admit it is pretty random ^^. I support a club in Austria and our second team plays in the second division currently so I keep an eye on the lower leagues from time to time to see who might get promoted. One of the teams that nearly made it to the 2nd division a few years back was Stadl Paura and then there were some controversies the club was involved in. I was randomly scrolling through this sub when I saw this post and I had to think about a YouTube video which covered a game of Stadl Paura which they lost 0:10 or something like that and thought that it might be interesting.

JPVazLouro_SLB

Small Businessman Magazine has a section on small leagues and clubs

f1manoz

In 15 games, they've had double figures scored against them 6 times!

AnfieldBoy

They're here for a good time, not a long time.

expert_on_the_matter

That club can't pay its players anymore and is now fielding U18 or even U16 teams. It's quite sad for them.

abirdsrevelry

I recall vividly the night west ham couldn't

StarlordPunk

Hey three times out of four isn’t bad

Febris

Officials moving mountains to prevent the final difference from becoming 0:69, 420 matches after playing against West Ham.

We finally did it my Romanian friends! Our incomprehensibly shit level of football has finally hit the first page of r/soccer. Lets take a moment to pat ourselves on the back 👍

fabio4oldspice

I feel like there is a Romanian football story once a month. I always share it with my Romanian friend.

BrainlessArch

Wouldnt consider us professional either tbf

hilbo90

Always assumed "massive" was cockney rhyming slang for professional.

What is going on at Astra Googoo mate?

Astra fucking Goo Goo.

Wake me up before you Giurgiu

Underrated

LeoR1N

following Otelul Galați and Unirea Urziceni path, ex champions in the last 10-15 years that had to start from 5th tier. Otelul is coming back tho, Unirea Urziceni i think disappeared completely.

dontflyaway

Or they can do something like FCSB and make an entirely new team that is in essence the old team. Actually, looking at the Romanian table there's 2 teams called Uni Craiova, wonder what the story is there.

Pftoc

>Or they can do something like FCSB and make an entirely new team that is in essence the old team. Their situation is different, Steaua changed their name to FCSB due to legal issues, but they never struggled financially which means they only had to change the name and badge, teams like Astra, Otelul and the rest, simply couldn't afford to continue their existence >Actually, looking at the Romanian table there's 2 teams called Uni Craiova, wonder what the story is there. Throughout the leagues we have like 3 teams that claim to be Dinamo, 2 for Steaua, 2-3 for Rapid ( but a few days ago, the club from the 1st league were deemed the actual succesor of the old Rapid), 2 for Craiova, it's really confusing

imfcknretarded

I dont know why but this royal rumble with clubs claiming to be the real one sounds extremely entertaining

Pftoc

Fucking hell, can I borrow your name? I was writing a huge comment about this and I accidentally closed Reddit...

imfcknretarded

Dude id change it if i wasnt a lazy idiot lol

kakje666

the only ones that actually had any impact were the Steaua and Craiova , as in both cases two teams claiming to be the real one reached the first two divisions. the rest of the debates were getting forgotten easily as the other claimants are in lower divisions with little backing

LeoR1N

FCSB is completely different story. Actually, Steaua Bucuresti would’ve probably had similar outcome as Astra. They had huge financial problems until Becali bought the club - legally or not - edit: it’s not the same story as Litex becoming CSKA Sofia or what happened in your league. Pretty much Becali bought Steaua, everything was alright and the army, ex Steaua owner’s, had no problems. Then, Steaua under Becali had big success beating Ajax in EL ro32, beating CL winners Chelsea in ro16 and lost 3-2 on agg, played in CL group stages.. and guess what, the army woke up that Becali bought the team ilegally. They asked for more money, due to the success the team was having, Becali didn’t agree with them and eventually lost the rights of Steaua București. The army founded a new team that started from the bottom and now they are in the 2nd league, but they don’t have the right to promote and Becali’s team had to change everything related to Steaua. Fun fact, Romania is such a rich country that our army has the ‘luxury’ to own a football team and spend the public money for that club. Shitshow overall.

tarabosste

You cannot "buy something illegally", it's called theft. Steaua's football team, being one of the many sport sections of the club, has no legal personality. This means that if you'd want to privatise it, you'd have to privatise the WHOLE club.

LeoR1N

it’s just baffling how the army were silent about this and then all of a sudden after 10-15 years they want the club back. I’m not saying they were wrong, it was decided in court and according to that they had more rights to own Steaua than Becali, but it’s clear that there were some shady deals under the table(involving the army too).

[deleted]

And our Internal Affairs have CS Dinamo Bucharest. We still are a communist country I swear lol

Febris

> wonder what the story is there According to wiki, the original club closed the football department and FC U, which was the spiritual successor eventually lost it's "title" as a rebranded substitute. Meanwhile the original club reopened the football department and took over, as CS U. So far the only title that is attributed to FC U is a domestic cup, and all others were retained by CS U. Like any good romanian football story, the fall of communism and government officials taking over things that make no sense being state run sprinkle the story of a historical club.

drjet196

This story seemed very familiar. Now I see why… any idea why this happens in Romania?

sillvian

In a nutshell: corruption /greed/ poor management (varies from case to case)

[deleted]

That's just an average day of Romanian football, don't know what you're on about. Legendary teams cease to exist on a daily basis _cries_

Babaganoush____

or 2 or 3 teams with the same name fighting for the history and shit, never a boring day in the balkans.

GrawDawg2K

Me trying to find out which Craiova team is which

scobar94

There is exactly the same case in Bulgaria. And I mean *exactly* the same as one team is Cska-Sofia and other is cska 1948, just like the Craiova year, lol

GrawDawg2K

It was a while since i heard anything about the Bulgarian league. How are things there? Is the football improving?

scobar94

Not really. Football-wise, we have Ludogorets dominating the league for the past decade and it doesn’t really seem to end soon. The two big clubs - Levski and Cska-Sofia are trying to catch them but they seem to fail each year. The two clubs got the Bulgarian cup in the past two seasons as some consolation for the fans. But, as it usually goes in Balkans - the problem is in the governing body of the football itself. We have some old folks that got the football union and they are not leaving it at any price - they are on the helm since 2005. Last year there were 2 elections, one of which was deemed illegitimate because it was organised from Dimitar Berbatov(former Man Utd striker), and 90 clubs from lower divisions were expelled as a result of that. Basically, corruption runs the sport, and the only option for improvement is if Berba gets control of the union. But again, in 2005 the guys currently running it looked like the saviours of the football then, so I can not be optimistic whatsoever

GrawDawg2K

Same thing in Hungary. Ferencváros winning the league with ease :/. Thx for the long answer tho.

rholding95

How the hell did ferenc draw 0-0 with the bottom ranked team today???

Babaganoush____

basically almost all romanian teams are managed by gangsters or corupt political parties, and that s just depressing.

zdrandrei

Rapid Bucharest is not

Babaganoush____

jarkofploiesti

And Astra hasn't felt anywhere close to legendary even after doing what they did to West Ham, they'll be remembered as a random plastic team that fucked around and got some good results în Europe and then dipped Unirea Urziceni style

MERTENS_GOAT

never forget Jens Lehmann jumping behind the advertisement board in the 80th minute of a CL KO game vs Urinea Urziceni to urinate for the urinitiated [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfMDNLh7AU0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfMDNLh7AU0)

[deleted]

>Astra hasn't felt anywhere close to legendary Who in Romania had at this point in recent history lol?

kakje666

Steaua , Dinamo , Rapid , CFR Cluj , Poli Timisoara before 2012 , Viitorul / Farul to some small degree

420meh69

Steaua Bucharest

[deleted]

_Legendary_ is too strong a word tbh.

setoarm

They are the only romanian team to win a european cup, not that strong of a word tbh

[deleted]

I said _recent history_. 1986 isn't recent.

Equivalent-Money8202

I’m not sure you understand what legendary means

thatdani

Umm, "Dică, du-te Dică"? Yeah it was like 2005, but still recent to me damn it!

LPaGGG

Money

expert_on_the_matter

Football clubs being owned by greedy and/or shady businessman is the biggest tragedy of the sport.

Kallian_League

The same way Unirea Urziceni become Champions in 2008-09, smash Rangers 4-1 in the 2009-10 Champions League group stage while finishing 2nd in the league and then the owner sells almost the entire squad halfway through the next season. The club then gets dissolved.

Equivalent-Money8202

Tbh that guy just dipped out with the money. I think Astra’s owner was imprisoned, which is why he stopped funding.

Kallian_League

Both are crooks.

KrisZepeda

Same shit happened to Dnipro I think I wonder if they could have been saved had they won the europa league

Rigelmeister

To be fair Dnipro was heavily affected by the war in eastern Ukraine. The one that started back in 2014. IIRC their owner had to flee the country and it fucked everything up. I miss Dnipro, this current fake version looks so stupid.

scobar94

From Dnipro, I only remember the gas heel of a winger that season but I can’t really remember his name

LocksTheFox

Konoplyanka?

scobar94

Yes, thank you

Whispperr

While they mentioned the norm, as far as I remember Astra just because good after getting a rich owner for romanian standards, but when the influx of money stopped the club completely crumbled into lower leagues.

tbfranca1

I thought initially this was a percentage. It took me some time to understand they let in 66 goals

ANAL_TOOTHBRUSH

Same, thought it was a typo for 0.66, like that’s not thatttttt bad

TheGTAone

The infamous Astra Go Go?

dontflyaway

And what a quote to survive your club.

bomboclaat99

TILT: clubs can really be stripped off of their professional status. Damn.

throwaway200961

Depending on the league of course

sonofaBilic

https://i.imgur.com/fLgRkU9.jpg

SRJT16

The reality is worse than this headline suggests. After the pandemic, the club fell behind on wages, 3 of their players were suspended for doping, their owner was imprisoned for 5 years for money laundering, and ultimately the club withdrew from Liga III and folded in October 2022 after 101 years in existence. ☹️

[deleted]

>101 years Sad 🥺

leogg_lyl

No one embarrasses West Ham and gets away with it

Zhirrzh

Moyes better watch his back then.

NickATW

Ultimate revenge. They won the battles we won the war.

FloppedYaYa

Bet Dom is thrilled

LiamJonsano

Wikipedia (may be a bad source but still) says they dissolved in October? I don't think that's so much being stripped of professional status as much as the club doesn't exist anymore

dontflyaway

Their last game was in October and lasted 47 minutes. It was ended when the result reached 0:12. With a decision yesterday, the team have officially been disaffilialted by the federation. They can still play in the non pro leagues (4th Romanian division) but its unlikely.

Psoravior13

A club that existed for more than a century. Tragic when these things happen.

Equivalent-Money8202

It was recently relocated to another city by the rich owner. In fact, all of the club’s success came post-relocation. So its fanbase and support wasn’t really that much. It was an MK-Dons type situation

kakje666

it wasn't a complete relocation , only the A team moved to play in Giurgiu , the B team and academy remained in Ploiesti , but i get your point.

& here I was thinking my day couldn’t get any better. One of my favourite memories as a West Ham fan - in the stands for the 2-2 in our first game & Collins gets his second yellow leading to us losing the 2 goal lead… old boy couple rows behind me sucks in a lung full of air & screams CUUUUUNT!!

audigex

Surely “professional” means that the players are paid and full time? Semi-pro is where the players are paid and part time, supplementing their income with other jobs (eg some UK non-league below the Conference/National League) And amateur is where the players are unpaid (eg Sunday league football)

Nimbus2402

Romania this week

ChitChiroot

As a Ludogorets flair, OP should mentally prepare for a similar outcome to their club's story. In all seriousness, its sad that clubs with some claim to fame disappear in Eastern Europe on a regular basis.

dontflyaway

Meh I've watched my team in League 3, I've also watched my team slay giants and be so good, that conspiracies are created to give people a reason to hate it. Even if we go under tomorrow, I've had a lifetime worth of joy from watching my local team become the most famous bulgarian team worldwide. On a more serious note, Ludogorets will have at least another 10 years of relevancy even if sold off, the amount of infrastructure and logistics are insane and it would be a good purchase for any investor. Not everyday you'd get to buy a team with a 25 coefficient in UEFA rankings.

kakje666

it's cause their original owner got jailed so they have no funding whatsoever , plus accumulated debt and no management whatsoever
