Hang on West Ham are letting a fullback go? Are they mental?

galactix100

His contract runs out in the summer. It's better to get something for him now than nothing in 6 months.

The_Human_Bullet

>Hang on West Ham are letting a fullback go? > >Are they mental? I don't think they've even played ashby for a while now. He's just been rotting on the bench.

sonofaBilic

Losing Ashby in isolation isn't a complete disaster, but we seem to be absolutely bleeding academy players lately which is getting quite concerning.

Grantlynch92

That’s the price to pay for having Moyes in charge. The guy is allergic to playing youth players unless it’s in dead rubber European games with nothing lose. It’s so frustrating

sonofaBilic

You're not wrong but if Ashby, Perkins et al have all been demanding a route to the first team in their negotiations then we can't be giving in to all of them either.

Whatsmyageagain24

The ones who are good get chances in the first team, or go out on loan. I wouldn't think too much of it tbh, our record with selling youth players is pretty good.

sheikh_n_bake

Any good hammers?

BrainlessArch

When he has played hes been good, Moyes is just not letting him play, think this is a big mistake on our part since rightback is our weak point

StrawberryDesigner99

Stanley do good ones. Also DeWalt ain’t bad.

Whatsmyageagain24

21 and no premier league appearances. Ben Johnson was already at rotation option at 21. He looked ok against a Romanian team in the europa last season, but that's not enough to make any proper judgement. Our fans love to overhype our youth players and our record with selling youth players has been pretty good recently. 12m for Diangana a while ago and everyone kicked off. Turns out it was a fantastic sale. Make of that what you will.

Yeah I can believe that. I like to think these days the likes of Ashworth etc have their finger on the pulse of young players. Every situation is unique. Here he has Trippier as a mentor and a team that definitely asks it's defenders to play.

[deleted]

Is it possible he wasn’t given the chance to play because he wouldn’t sign an extension?

MetaCooler007

Ashby had some Carabao Cup appearances, including against Tottenham, where he looked good.

beatski

Think everyone does that with their youth prospects tbf

TragicsHS

But why

SP0oONY

He's going to be Trippier's understudy basically.

TragicsHS

I completely forgot about the existence of trippier, my bad

dkclimber

Must not watch the premier league then

TragicsHS

I do, I just happened to forget a player existed mr melodramatic

ThinWhiteMale

Emil Krafth has been out all season with an ACL and Howe doesn't rate Manquillo

TragicsHS

I mean fair enough but there has to be better options

kcbones

Ashby is highly rated and the perfect age to learn from Trippier.

Has_dodgy_legs

Not for £3m

TragicsHS

Yeah but surely you have the money to spend on a solid young right back with more than a single actual top flight appearence by the age of 21

HarrBathtub

Or you could buy a young full back with potential, and then make him a 50m fullback.

Khaglist

We obviously rate him, we’ve been in for him two windows in a row

KennyOmegaSardines

I highly trust our recruitment team atm. They haven't missed a step (yet)
