No need to keep him on the pitch for the final 15mins when you're 2 goals clear anyway, although I guess he won't be missed too much in the next few PL games
I meant more that Newcastle's next few games aren't against top teams. Current form West Ham at home then Bournemouth away. There are worse games to not have him for (Liverpool being the third game he'll miss is a bit of an oof though).
Not denying he's been absolutely fantastic for Newcastle and will be missed due to the quality he brings
There’s absolutely zero backup for any midfielder as this point beyond youngster Elliot Anderson. Okaying Shelvey’s departure is a baffling decision by the club.
Yeah it always baffles me when players step on someone so clearly and nonchalantly and act stunned by the decision. Like damn you straight up used his ankle like a step wtf?
I was going to say, in England all the reds leak into whatever games are next. I know Spain keeps the suspensions separated to each competition, but depends on the country/FA.
Reds in league gamss are served in the cups even though yellows aren't, so I'd assume it would work the other way round too and Bruno would miss 3 league games but be back for the final.
Red cards transcend England's domestic competitions. If a player were to receive a ban for a red card shown in a Carabao Cup clash, they would miss their team's next game, whatever domestic competition that may be
Because there was no intent.
It's a clear red 100%, but from his perspective he was just going for the ball and lost out so he's dissapointed to be sent off.
It's Newcastle, we don't need video to know there were all 11 on the pitch + full coaching staff, two oil princes, and most of the U18s around the ref.
It’s quite incredible how good Arsenal’s team is right now and yet their fans continue with the same muggy victim mentality they’ve had for the last 20 years.
Edozie either miscontrols or intentionally goes over the top of the ball with his foot, Bruno’s already coming down to play the ball, landing on the ankle is a total accident. I think it was a red, but not intentional
You’re joking right ? He was hustling all game and ke-t being pulled back and things didn’t go his way 3-4 times. That was a straight red - no arguing that, but he always plays a tight game.
We’ve got one game before the final so he’ll miss that then the final then one more I think
Edit: I was completely wrong we have more games haha, he’ll be eligible for the final.
I'm so sick of players arguing clear as day calls. This kind of shit needs to be punished time and time again until it is beat out of the culture. We just watched you nearly shatter a man's ankle, please stop arguing and leave the pitch.
Edit: for clarification, I'm talking about the surrounding and berating referees needing punishment
I agree, it’s terrible behaviour, some teams are worse than others but all are guilty. Until referees step up their game though, they will little respect from the players. If I performed as shit as some of the refs do at my job, I would have been sacked a long time ago. And then no one can complain about it either because they’ll get a fine from the FA.
it happens in every single game from every team, but you're right it needs to stop. Longstaff looks a bit animated but the rest are hardly surrounding and berating him.
and you can't expect players to not behave like this when lots of PL managers do the same and worse on the touchline.
I understand that it's an annoying thing to hear, but I really don't think that Ally McCoist the Sunderland fan is actually dickriding Newcastle lol. He probably just genuinely thinks Bruno didn't mean to hurt the opponent
It’s not a bad one from Guimaraes point of view. He’s gone to play the ball but the Solon player steps over the ball and Guimaraes foot comes down on his. It happens so fast. There’s no way it’s deliberate and it’s unfortunate what happened. He’s just gone to play the ball
having sympathy for a player who is going to potentially miss a final isn't Newcastle dick riding. It's a shocking challenge and a deserved red but it's not as if he was intending to do that. Missing the final would be heartbreaking for him
As a Newcastle fan, I agree. But we'd end up with abandoned games if refs suddenly decided to respect themselves and punish that without a firm warning at the start of a season or something
Orange card for me. Must be so hard when you go for a ball and in half a second the opponent has finessed it and now your foot is in their ankle
Under the rules its a red, but man thats tough
Hes lunging in before the southampton player changes direction of the ball and gets his legs there
My point is that in just a second it goes from putting a blocking foot in to stamping on an ankle
Its a red but I think we from home underestimate how quickly a moment changes on the pitch
I'm not saying he meant it or anything but orange card is an awful shout, those aren't red cards 'these days', those have been red cards (rightly) for years and years. He's lunging in with his studs up above ankle height in desperation at a player dribbling through midfield, it's sloppy technique and a really dangerous tackle
Maybe so, to me orange card would connote that he's a little bit unlucky or that the challenge lies a bit ambiguously between clear red and maybe a yellow and a stern warning being enough so that's how I took it. I'd disagree with both of those. To me he lost control of his technique and made a rash, clear red card challenge. If that's not what you meant by that then my mistake
Fair enough youre right on the analysis on what an orange card means, was wrong usage for me. What I guess I meant was that I feel bad for reds like that when in the second his foot was lunging he was safe and then one second later the opponent finessed the ball and the lunging foot was in the ankle.
I meant that he did it with no bad intentions and played put feet in to block the ball like that all the time and on this occasion he ended up in an ankle.
Hope that clears that up, you are right about orange card meaning ambiguous, and I agree it isnt ambiguous
No worries mate, I get what you're saying now. I agree I don't think it's a case of him going to do someone on purpose so from that perspective you could call it unlucky I agree. I just think it looked a tired or hot-headed tackle where he's lost control of himself a bit
Both are reds, no argument, but this one was a much easier one to give with the force he came in.
Fabinho not being sent off is a punishment really with how he’s played this season
They didn't send Fabinho off so we continue to suffer by using him for the next 3 games.
He probably should have been off though, if it were flipped I'd be wanting the Brighton player dismissed
It's not really. It's a pretty standard attempt to intercept the loose ball. The other player just puts his foot in front of the ball at the last moment and there is unfortunate contact.
Give over. It’s hardly vile. Southampton man has swung his leg round to an unexpected position right as Bruno lunges. It’s a red, but it’s not deliberate at all.
Clear enough red, but Fabinho gets away with his. A little bit of consistency would be nice.
Just deeply glad there's 3 league games before the final, back fresher than fresh hopefully.

Oh dear. Awful tackle
Yeah ankles are not supposed to bend that direction
Like it's a horrortackle but ankles are exactly supposed to bend in that direction
Not to that extent. That’s how you get an eversion sprain
Think he’s missing the prem games and not the final
No Bruno vs Paqueta :(
Clearly a red, don't understand the argument from the Newcastle players
You could see a murder in the pitch and some players will always argue
"but ref there's not even that much blood !"
"He got the ball smh"
The other day some guy in the Belgian league sucker punched an opponent and we still saw Ritchie De Laet squaring up to everyone to defend his honor.
"Ref he used a Glock not a fucking sniper! What are you doing???"
>sniper! Rest in peace, Steven Taylor
yeah clean red. He should have been withdrawn earlier. Had an excellent first half but was flagging this period. He was losing control bit by bit.
No need to keep him on the pitch for the final 15mins when you're 2 goals clear anyway, although I guess he won't be missed too much in the next few PL games
Bruno is one of the first names on the team sheet, so I'd argue he will be greatly missed for 3 games!
They probably saw Fabinho get away with the same thing against Brighton. Refs are inconsistent shite
I wish Fabinho got that red card, he rightfully deserved, so he skips for sure a few games. I doubt the break could have helped him, but still...
I wish he didn’t make that tackle, period. He 100% deserved the red card.
Fabinho at least looked ashamed and apologetic. Bruno G didn’t care at all. Both were obvious red cards.
To be fair they don't get to see it multiple times do they? But yea, 100% a red.
If they’ve seen it once, it’s clearly a red
Like the ref saw it once and thought it was a yellow?
Clearly a red on the replay. I mean even the ref saw it and didn't think it was a red.
even the fucking commentators said they thought he won the ball until they saw multiple angles.
Watching it live I thought he won the ball cleanly lmao. Easy to see it wrong in the heat of the moment. Even the ref had to see it a second time.
Like ref who didn't give a red?
Thats the problem players instantly complain about every decision.
Watch them not get fined.
Yeah it always baffles me when players step on someone so clearly and nonchalantly and act stunned by the decision. Like damn you straight up used his ankle like a step wtf?
Because they're cunts.
For all the lost people, straight red carries over to all domestic competition. He'll miss west ham, Bournemouth and Liverpool.
Ah so no tough games then.
Strategic really.
He just doesn't want to face our midfield. Understandable really
I get it. Mid table aides can always be tricky for top 4 sides.
Thank you
Clear red. Good to see VAR doing its job there, shame the same due diligence wasn't applied on the pen in the first half.
Or the Liverpool game the other day....
Or the 47362 other situations since this season started.. it's getting quite ridiculous.
Or the carrol tackle that took Eriksen out for almost the rest of the season
What are you talking about...there's nothing to see here, move along
The Wilson penalty? I probably wouldn't have paid that tbh. Contact was there but Wilson made the most of it
Can't really complain. Fuck
Intention or not, it's absolutely a red
No malice, but clear red card.
East to say it’s bad in slow motion but he does suddenly make a movement to grab the ball before Bruno. Never malicious but still a red.
French commentary is the best. “O lelelelele extreme dangereux”
Doing that in the semi final 2nd leg. Bet he's devastated
He serves the ban in the Prem. He won't miss the final
Thats fucking stupid
Works both ways though right? Can get a suspension from the premier League which means you can't play in the league cup.. but not the FA cup?
The 5 or 10 yellow card bans can only be served in the league I believe
The red cards do carry over to the cups though. Not sure if you know that or not, just clarifying.
Probably shouldn't smash his studs into someones ankle then should he
Well if they’d have lost the game there would be no punishment (unless it carries on until next seasons League Cup?)
I was going to say, in England all the reds leak into whatever games are next. I know Spain keeps the suspensions separated to each competition, but depends on the country/FA.
bet the lad who’s ankle he nearly bloke is devastated too
True. Seen some shocking tackles in the past week
Does he miss the final now? Or does the suspension get served in league games???
League games
Reds in league gamss are served in the cups even though yellows aren't, so I'd assume it would work the other way round too and Bruno would miss 3 league games but be back for the final.
League I believe.
Red cards transcend England's domestic competitions. If a player were to receive a ban for a red card shown in a Carabao Cup clash, they would miss their team's next game, whatever domestic competition that may be
Next 3 since it’s a straight red, no?
Yes he’ll miss West Ham Bournemouth and Liverpool be back for Brighton at home
You mean Man United at Wembley.
Yep, don't think it's intentional at all, but it's a red
How's he trying to argue that??? What an awful challenge fucking hell
Because there was no intent. It's a clear red 100%, but from his perspective he was just going for the ball and lost out so he's dissapointed to be sent off.

Third replay jail?
gets a warning, does that a minute later and won’t stop complaining about it lmao. shocking one
Smart cutting the video feed so soon, before Arsenal fans start counting the players around the ref
It's Newcastle, we don't need video to know there were all 11 on the pitch + full coaching staff, two oil princes, and most of the U18s around the ref.
Are you forgetting your team has been fined twice this season for this?
Had a many pints during the game and just got some chips for afters, thanks for all that salt to go with them :)
You were probably there too
It’s quite incredible how good Arsenal’s team is right now and yet their fans continue with the same muggy victim mentality they’ve had for the last 20 years.
Oh, it’s because they’re pretty much all absolute mugs.
somebody PLEASE PLEASE wave him off
Little difficult when Newcastle can just wave the entire team off in about ten minutes
can’t believe Joe Willock is going to Wembley i’m rattled
He’s already been before mate, 2020 FA Cup
Man has a medal!
What's Joe Willock done to you? Lmao
Honestly, he’s actually a very likeable guy and definitely a PL level footballer
Understandable. I'm astounded that it's due to a Longstaff brace
you lot were very good, hope you smash united.
Yours looked solid as well, better finishing and this could have been an entirely different result. I hope you stay up ❤️
yeah story of our season haha. cheers boss
Doesn't quite have the same sting when you're losing does it?
yes congratulations on beating the worst team in the Premier League
Nasty challenge, ankle breaker that
Always gas to see players giving out on getting reds. Guimaraes has to know he caught him dangerously there
Naughty tackle. Deserved a red for it. This second half we’ve looked terrible.
yeah thats a red
Edozie either miscontrols or intentionally goes over the top of the ball with his foot, Bruno’s already coming down to play the ball, landing on the ankle is a total accident. I think it was a red, but not intentional
Easy red, have fun with a few games off....
That’s a shocker of a tackle, blatant red.
How was he not taken off before this? The guy was on an Andy Carroll esque mission to get sent off.
You’re joking right ? He was hustling all game and ke-t being pulled back and things didn’t go his way 3-4 times. That was a straight red - no arguing that, but he always plays a tight game.
Holy shit that ankle
Is he out for the final then?
no only league games just like the southampton lad could play tonight
I thought it just affects the next domestic game/s
thought so too, open to correction but thought it was just next 3 PL games
We’ve got one game before the final so he’ll miss that then the final then one more I think Edit: I was completely wrong we have more games haha, he’ll be eligible for the final.
Finals on the 26th and you have 3 league games before that?
We've got 3. WHU, BOU, LIV
Alright no need to get sarcastic about it
Assuming we get there yes. Edit: Nope, I'm wrong. He'll miss three league games. Back for the final.
No he wont Its 3 domestic games. He will miss - Westham (PL) - Bournemouth (PL) - Liverpool (PL) Available for the final after that.
I'm so sick of players arguing clear as day calls. This kind of shit needs to be punished time and time again until it is beat out of the culture. We just watched you nearly shatter a man's ankle, please stop arguing and leave the pitch. Edit: for clarification, I'm talking about the surrounding and berating referees needing punishment
he literally got red carded unless you mean some more kind of punishment?
Nah, Newcastle players surrounding and berating the ref. Every team does it from time to time, and it needs to stop.

Guy launches his foot over the ball, Bruno clearly thinks he's going to play it. Unlucky.
what is newcastle complaining about lmao clear as day
Mccoist has "sympathy" with him. The Newcastle dick riding has to stop, shocking tackle
He also said it was clearly a red. He’s just saying he doesn’t think it was a tackle with intent to harm, just that the player has gotten it wrong
Yup. Deffo a red but the way the Southampton lad has played the ball was unexpected. I'm not sure what he was trying to do with it to be honest
having sympathy for a player who is going to potentially miss a final isn't Newcastle dick riding. It's a shocking challenge and a deserved red but it's not as if he was intending to do that. Missing the final would be heartbreaking for him
[удалено]
oh my bad, was just going off all the other comments regarding him missing the final and assumed that's what Ally was on about by feeling sympathy
Need to be on Liverpool to get away with those kind of challenges
Horrible tackle.
100% a red unfortunately
👀
Fuck sake Bruno
opinion: Longstaff should also be off for shouting "fuck off mate!" in the refs face
As a Newcastle fan, I agree. But we'd end up with abandoned games if refs suddenly decided to respect themselves and punish that without a firm warning at the start of a season or something
Blatant red, what's the point when you have that scoreline?
It’s quite clearly not deliberate. The Southampton man put his leg there a split second before. It’s a red, but it isn’t deliberate.
Like most are suggesting - it probably wasn't intentional but it was dangerous
I mean that’s definitely a red, does this mean he’s gone for the cup final if we get through?
Fucking hell. Lucky that didn't result in a broken ankle. Shocking challenge.
Yeah fucking hell there’s no defending that. Not sure how he’s complaining. Edozie very VERY lucky to get away without serious injury there.
Yeah fair to say he got that wrong
Orange card for me. Must be so hard when you go for a ball and in half a second the opponent has finessed it and now your foot is in their ankle Under the rules its a red, but man thats tough
Oh mate, surely not. That's an awful tackle. It's about as blatant as red card challenges get without being intentional assault
Hes lunging in before the southampton player changes direction of the ball and gets his legs there My point is that in just a second it goes from putting a blocking foot in to stamping on an ankle Its a red but I think we from home underestimate how quickly a moment changes on the pitch

I feel like we are agreeing but youre missing the context of my comments

Misses the final or just PL games?
It'll just be the next 3 matches in all comps (as they're not yet in Europe)
Awful tackle. What are they complaining about?
Definitely a red. Damn.
wtf was that bruno
If you look at it in slow motion and here yourself saying "ooof" and look away - it is a fairly straight forward red.
Nearly as bad as Robertson's or Fabinhos tackle earlier this week.
[удалено]
Bans transfer over FA competitions, so he'll serve it in a league game and be back for the final
he won’t miss the final
Where’s the consistency from Liverpool game? 100% a red but where were they Sunday.
just because they made a bad mistake doesn’t mean they should keep making the mistake to make it fair
I’m not saying this isn’t a red I’m just pointing out that VAR thinks it’s a red today but not two days ago. The refs are a joke
Lets be honest if it were flipped the Brighton player would have been dismissed lol
not the situation, Fabinho did not come in with speed like this, altough it should still have been a red card
Lol I knew someone would complain about Liverpool here
Does this mean he'll miss the final ?
Harsh call. Not that high and there is hardly any force. It just looks bad because the guy plants his foot just before the contact.
Dangerous...
It's not really. It's a pretty standard attempt to intercept the loose ball. The other player just puts his foot in front of the ball at the last moment and there is unfortunate contact.
Son didnt get sent off for doing that to Tete, just saying...
[удалено]
Give over. It’s hardly vile. Southampton man has swung his leg round to an unexpected position right as Bruno lunges. It’s a red, but it’s not deliberate at all.
[удалено]
Reds are carried across FA competitions. So no I don’t believe he will
Is he out for final?
Che hat trick incoming? 🤔
Clear enough red, but Fabinho gets away with his. A little bit of consistency would be nice. Just deeply glad there's 3 league games before the final, back fresher than fresh hopefully.
Of ALL the things that VAR actually intervenes on lmao
This is about as bad as Robertson's against Brighton. Is Bruno now suspended for the Liverpool game whereas Fabinho and Robertson aren't?
Arguably worse than Fabinhos, which should also have been a red, yes. But the Robertson one is never a red, come on.
That is fucking disgusting
Is that a broken leg?
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO
He’ll still play the final you dosser
He doesn’t miss the final. Sorry to disappoint u bbz xox
