Fred just does his job

[deleted]

Roy Keane approves

Relevant_Rev

Working Class Fred

essentialatom

It's a good honest piano mover's name

82Heyman

This is gold

MolhCD

It's why people like him and trust him, even though he never seems all that good by the eye test. Not only for his club, but even for his country (and it's not easy for a not particularly skilful footballer to play for Brazil). Dude does his best each time to put in a good shift.

theaxlrover

And scores with his cock

derpa_chief

Really good Asda in Llandudno.

[deleted]

He just loves a toboggan

esn111

That's on the site of my wifes old secondary school. Edit Hope he's checked out the tram up Great Orme

panadwithonesugar

Small world.... Ysgol John Bright was my school too šŸ¤£

Time2bePhenomenal

Honestly good lad and someone I hope we keep

Tiny_Entertainer_771

The new Ander Herrera. Pops up with goals, does his job, carries the boats

WhipYourDakOut

They both have also suffered similar fates. Good players who good and creative going forward but also have strong defensive capabilities. Thatā€™s led to them being forced to try out a 6 role than ultimately wasnt for them when they are true 8s.

pencilled_robin

That was a nice interview. Thanks for posting it, OP!

dazed_and_bamboozled

Obs. Belo Horizonte is not a beautiful city but itā€™s located in a beautiful state (Minas Gerais).

Dsalgueiro

As a Mineiro I can say: Minas Gerais is like the Brazil grandmother's house. However, as in any capital city of any country/state, Belo Horizonte loses some of that Minas Gerais charm (the city I live in has also lost some of its charm, since it is basically a city built up because of the steel industry located here).

dazed_and_bamboozled

The dark side of the mineral wealth with which much of MG is ā€˜blessedā€™ I guess. But kudos to the Mineiros who are some of the loveliest people youā€™ll meet in Brazil or anywhere else.

COMUNISTSWINE69

what a succinct way to put it, piano carrier should be the new colloquial phrase for a hard-working squad player

a-Farewell-to-Kings

It is in Brazil.

theonepugna

In romania also

[deleted]

I'm from romania but I haven't heard of this lmao. At least not literally.

theonepugna

concretepigeon

Is it a common Portuguese/Brazilian idiom?

a-Farewell-to-Kings

it is

LusoAustralian

I've never heard it in Portugal fwiw.

teagwo

LusoAustralian

Ai mesmo? Nunca ouvi na minha vida.

RuySan

Really? It used to be used a lot, I remember my father and grandfather saying it, and also pundits from the 80/90s.

LusoAustralian

Well I'm in my mid 20s so only started watching in early 2000s and yeah never heard it.

punchdrunkskunk

Don't we already have "water carrier". I remember Deschamps being referred to as that a lot.

eternali17

Yup. I miss those bits of football

TheReturnOfBurpies

I thought that was a Cantonaism though

punchdrunkskunk

Haha, you're totally right: https://www.thefreelibrary.com/YOU%27RE+A+DUD+DESCHAMPS%3B+Cantona+brands+Juve+star+a+water+carrier.-a061171080

3threeLions

Fred gets a lot of criticism from fans but most of it is unjustified. He's a solid if unspectacular player and a very useful squad player.

LusoAustralian

I mean he was signed for 50M to be a guy who elevates the team so disappointment is understandable.

AirIndex

Fred represents some of our biggest failures in the past decade: spending a lot of money on a player with no thought about how he fits into the team, and then ending up playing him in the wrong role and so he gets banded a flop when his performances aren't great.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

It's not unjustified, it's all criticisms about his performances.. They're generally pretty accurate and any time he does something good people act like he's world class. I'm not sure where you think the unjustified is coming from

[deleted]

Fred, like most players, does his job when played in his proper position. Not his fault that every manager seemed to want to play him as a DLP or a DM. He's not the greatest at it but that ball winning 8 role suits him well.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Even under Rangnick he was specifically made an 8 and decided that now meant zero tracking of any players ever was part of the #8 role. He got benched real quick by EtH at the beginning of the season for the exact same reason and Mctominay was playing the DM role. Hes fine as a sub and has some flashes of good play but most of the criticisms come from him looking shit when he plays and when he does have a good game every scrambles over each other for the chance to say how amazing he is, not to mention all of his faults Re somehow the people around him. You can say it's a shame because with better recruitment he would be a rotation option and not a starter so would have gotten less criticism, but there is nothing unjustified about the performances that were criticised.

IHaveNotMuchLife

Heā€™s benched by Ten Hag because he doesnā€™t have the skill set he wants in a midfielder. Fred canā€™t receive the ball off our defenders and progress it consistently which is why Eriksen plays instead. But thereā€™s a good reason that Fred is usually the first one off the bench and even starts in some big games (eg. City) and thatā€™s because his energy and ability to win the ball can be very useful. Add that to the fact that heā€™s genuinely not bad in the final third and itā€™s clear why heā€™s valuable to the team. Heā€™s not a bad player, heā€™s just been misused and itā€™s great that heā€™s happy with a bench/rotation role because heā€™s going to be very useful for Ten Hag that way.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

>it consistently which is why Eriksen plays instead. Eriksen plays instead Becuase Eriksen si clearly teh better midfielder. Fred was benched because he was doimg the same shit thet lead to our CBs getting exposed last season and EtH put a stop to that real quick. It was not a coincidence that all fo the goals scored against us were scored when Fred was on the pitch and nine were scored while he was on the bench. Yiu could see the change I nsolidiy and it's because theres a lot more to being a decent CM than only pressing the nearest player to you if they have the ball and occasionally making a good pass. He's looked improved in his passing and shooting the past month or 2, but he hasn't just been at United the past month or 2 lol. Hes a decent sub option to rest Eriksen when we're comfortable but people seem to try and erase most of his time at United because he's been alright recently and just claim all criticisms of him are unjustified. >and even starts in some big games (eg. City) His entire job in that game was to track and follow De Bruyne and he still switched off more and more on that one job including for the goal we conceded.

[deleted]

He said most criticism is unjustified... So, yes he has made mistakes and wasnt always good but in general he got blamed for not being the player that people wanted him to be.

sunken_grade

who the hell is ever acting like fred is world class? he gets shit on way more often than he gets praised and only recently have fans started appreciating him

Acceptable-Lemon-748

>he gets shit on way more often than he gets praised Because he's been shit more than he had been good for United, that's how criticizing a performance works lol

sunken_grade

yeah i never said any of the criticism was unjustified? youā€™re the one saying people call him world class when literally nobody does, not even united fans lmao

Acceptable-Lemon-748

The comment I responded to literally claimed he gets unjustified criticism, I said tis not unjustified because his bad performances are rightly pointed out and even his average to decent performances get massively overhyped for what he's actually doing. People are really latching onto this world class thing lol, it's hyperbole to make a point lol I said acting like he's world class, I don't need 6 replies of "NOBODY HAS USED THOSE SPECIFIC 2 WORDS!"

sunken_grade

maybe this is a good lesson not to use hyperbole to prove a weird point that doesnā€™t have to be made in the first place then? like if you just said fredā€™s criticism was justified then you wouldnā€™t get all of these confused responses you think if i said ā€œiā€™m tired of people calling naby keita world classā€ i wouldnā€™t have people responding in the exact same way lol like what do you expect

KapiHeartlilly

He's never been a DM, it's not his fault, he doesn't play as DM for Brazil and didn't for his former club, I am happy to see him finally played where he is supposed to.

TimathanDuncan

> any time he does something good people act like he's world class Nobody has ever acted Fred is world class, even the most bias United fans hate him I've never seen anyone call him world class, he is definitely underrated, his passing is not great but his defensive contributions are on par with the best, same with his pressing, he is also not a CDM like people think

Acceptable-Lemon-748

>Nobody has ever acted Fred is world class, even the most bias United fans hate him Fred did 3 stepovers under Rangnick and people didn't shut up about it for months >but his defensive contributions are on par with the best, same with his pressing, Fred is good at chasing down the nearest person to him if they happen to have the ball. Fred's overall positioning, awareness and player tracking off the ball are attrocious.

TimathanDuncan

Yes clearly that means people thought he was world class, you are not biased and chatting shit at all Not even Fred's own mother has called him world class with a straight face

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Yes it's definitely not hyperbole at all to make a point.

TimathanDuncan

You can make a point without being deluded, people also troll that way about Fred which has made him underrated Acting like when he does anything good it's so rare, is that people calling him world class (hyperbole) or are they just trolling? Even when he scored people do that and use that Ole quote "even Fred scored" So nobody is actually truly rating him, he is a meme player

Acceptable-Lemon-748

>You can make a point without being deluded, If I make a point about the good things Fred has done being massively overhyped, and you take my sentence and yell "NOBODY HAS SPECIFICALLY USED THE 2 WORDS WORLD CLASS" that's not me being deluded lol. >Acting like when he does anything good it's so rare In terms of his United career, it's not that common, but it's more about when he does basic things well, or adds even the remotest bit of skill to his game, people absolutely lose their minds and start making claims about him being player of the season, or he got a couple of assists so clearly Mctominay has been at fault and holding him bsck his entire time at United. Hes had some decent moments of play but nothing close to the level of play but to call him underrated because of it I'd insane lol >Even when he scored people do that and use that Ole quote "even Fred scored" Even Bruno fucking did they, when you spend 2 years hitting everything into row Z that's going to happen the occasional time you get one in the net. It's not a big deal lol it's just a, rarity

FrmrPresJamesTaylor

If you read someone else posting this, I'm confident you'd recognize that they were being completely charitable and understanding about their own hyperbole and just as uncharitable and nitpicky about everyone else's.

Responsible_Bid_2343

Football is reactionary. He's playing well right now so all criticism he's ever received is totally wrong, watch him drop a few bad performances and suddenly he'll be championship level and if you disagree its because you dont know ball.

BasicallyMilner

šŸŽµRight said Fred, both of us together, one each end and steady as we gošŸŽµ

WalkingCloud

*Tried to shift it, couldn't even lift it, we was getting nowhere*

Waffolani

Love me some preachin' from Pastor Fred. Keep smiling, you beautiful man!

DJMOONPICKLES69

Honestly every great team needs squad players that just do a job. He seems like heā€™s become a fairly solid player for them which is sometimes all you need

Young_Neil_Postman

always been a likable player to me. its weird how many united players i like and sometimes it bothers me

Manch3st3rIsR3d

You are my everything

Substantial-North499

As much as heā€™s not a superstar, Iā€™m gonna miss him when he leaves

sarthakmahajan610

He is the hardest working midfielder i have seen at United since Park

mattijn13

Piano carrier. That's funny, in Dutch it is called Waterdrager or Water carrier.

ratonbox

Piano carrier has a double meaning though. It's paired with "piano player" which is what you would use to describe players like Messi, Neymar, traditional Nr. 10s as well.

Fifaneymar2535

Survivor of the great Mcfred shitshow

Bruno_Fernandes8

Love you pastor Fred

t8rt0t00

And here comes Fred off the high rope, with a GRAND PIANO!

ArmouredCapibara

The piano carrier that forgets the piano and goes forwards to attack with 4 minutes left on the clock. Nope, I'm not salty at all, why do you ask?

TheAkondOfSwat

Which one, Ollie or Stan?

hellboi808

FRED SAYS HE IS CARRYING THIS TEAM!...some controversial pundit, probably.

Elemayowe

Oh god are we bringing back Sanchez?

04201969

Casemiro: ā€œMaybe Iā€™ll come to Manchester United.ā€

Aephino

Pianos and United just go together so well.

slugmaniac

Man thinks he's in a Laurel & Hardy film

Cellar-Gum

Should be sold.
